Excel Slow Or Non-responsive After Alphabetizing Worksheets In A Workbook
Jun 18, 2014
Over a period of time I entered dozens of worksheets into a very important workbook. Finally, I decided to put them in alphabetical order. I found a method/formula to perform the task on line. I made the suggested entry and it ran for some time. After it finished: the worksheets were in order. but since then Excel has been slow and many times unresponsive.
I use Excel 2003 & I am trying to design a worksheet to keep track of signs I make & their order numbers. I want the names listed alphabetically. When I add a new name & I arrange the column alphabetically, the columns with the order numbers do not relocate along with the names column.
I have a workbook made up of worksheets containing source data, pivot tables and charts but it is now becoming very slow since I have added a worksheet with many formulas.
If I move that worksheet containing many formulas (20 columns by 150 rows) to a different workbook will that help speed both of them up? The formulas will obviously still by referring to the original workbook.
Or is it simply by using formulas it slows things down whatever you do and I will have to think of a clever way of using pivot tables instead? Are there any other things that could be slowing it down? Other workbooks I maintain are fine.
Code that will autofilter my sheet for rows that contain either a 1,2,3, or 4 in Column "Z". Then, create a new workbook for each unique value in column "O" and save that to a folder on my desktop named "Contracts". Next, while still filtered by by "Z" and for every unique value in column "O", filter and name a sheet in the new workbook for each unique value in column "B". Finally, while the main sheet is filtered I need to copy and paste the visible cells (minus header row) from columns C,D,E,F,G,H,S, and U to consecutive columns in the newly created worksheet beginning in cell "A9".
I am using excel to create some contracts for a few partners. Each partner could work with several of my clients and I need to give each partner a personalized contract for each of my clients with which they work.
I hope my description of the problem is not too confusing. If so, let me know and I will try to clarify exactly what I am trying to say.
I have tried to combine some code that I already have but, being a newb with loops, I can't seem to get it to do everything.
I have searched the forums re my issue and have not found a relevant solution. I have a large workbook 19MB in Excel 2007. There are 400 sheets and each sheet contains various formulas and one macro. The only graphics on each sheet are color coding of some cells. The workbook takes 2minutes 55 secs to load. Once open there are no issues. Is there a reason why this is so slow or do I just have to accept that being a large file it will take this long. There is no issue with HD space or RAM as the laptop is only used specifically for this workbook. Running Intel Core 2 Duo, 160 HDD, 2mb ram.
I have attached a workbook that I want to be updated by the user. It contains a number of vlookups that to refer to a data source on a server communal to all users. I wondered if there would be anything that could be done in the workbook to help speed up an update?
I have a table that lists names, eligibility and # of people. That is just one worksheet. I have a total of 30 worksheets in that workbook. The column with the names is completely filled out. I entered a number in the eligibility and # of people columns and Excel copied all three cells (name, eligibility and # of people) to the same cells on all of the worksheets. I have no formula in any of the cells, nor do I have anything linked.
I have five excel separate excel files containing values covering more than 500,000 rows each. I want to put then in a single excel workbook without tedious work of copy/paste to sheets of this workbook.
I have a workbook with many lookups, sumproducts, dynamic named ranges and cse formulas. How do I determine what is causing my workbook to be slow? Are there more efficient formula types that I can use?
I want to write a macro that will copy data from all worksheets of a specified workbook and copy them into a new workbook.
To give some detail, I receive a report each morning containing failed deliveries. I also export a list of failed deliveries from a system (SAP). These reports rarely match so I must compare the two daily. I do this using INDEX and MATCH functions but now my boss wants all the data in a single report so I would like to harness the might of vba to consolodate all the data in one workbook.
The lists of failed deliveries are contained in worksheets marked mon, tue, wed... so I need to search all worksheets for all delivery numbers and copy all of the data into a new book. This becomes complicated because on Monday there is only one tab marked mon, on tuesday there are two (mon & tue), one wednesday there are three and so on.
I have started on some code but I am getting nowhere fast. I have managed to muster an input box which asks for a date (this will be used to search the file path for a file named "failed deliveries & "mm/mm/yyy")
I've got some code which some one posted me a link to on here which set up a pivot table on more that 1 sheets (using excel 2002).
I inserted this code into a rountine I do daily which works fine.
The problem Im having is that Im getting more and more info which I need to pivot over more than one sheet. So I was going to amend the rountine so It picked what ever sheets are in the work book to pivot.
At the moment I have to go into the code and name the sheets to pivot. Is there some code which can work out how many sheets that need pivoting and just do it with out naming them? and also just add a new sheet with the pivot on rather than having to name the destination?
I've posted the code i got given below and have highlighted the bit where I have to name the sheets.
I used VBA codes to apply different passwords for different worksheets in a single excel workbook. They worked fine. Then i applied a password to the VBA code itself through the VBA project properties. Also worked.
But my problem is that, if any one enters a wrong password to open any of the worksheets, the VBA will open an error message window and when "end" option is clicked, the VBA code will open without any prompt for the password. Thus the entire purpose is defeated.
I'm trying to sort a spreadsheet that has 6 columns with 36 rows total. I want to alphabetize the entire spreadsheet, from A1 to F36 so that A1 is the first of the alphabet and F36 is the last. When I select all the data on the spreadsheet and click sort by ascending, it sorts the columns within themselves instead of within each other.
I have built an Application in Excel that is used by a userbase of 50+ people. Now, as standard, they are only able to access the document read only. The application writes data to an ".mdb" but the user cannot change the application directly istself.
Now, we've had the problem over the last few days that the program is running slowly when it is trying to write data back to the ".mdb" file.
I believe that it could be because connection to the sever that our application is running slowly (or the server is too highly trafficed) but our server team are telling me there is nothing wrong with the server and it's running slowly because there are too many people in one Excel application/
I'm currently running MS Excel 2003 on Windows XP SP 3. When I launch Excel from the start menu, it starts right up. When double-clicking an Excel file, it takes approximately 45 seconds to a minute to launch and open the file. This happens no matter what the file size.
I have inherited support for a suite of Excel 2003 spreadsheets with complicated macros which run fine on XP. Having been tasked to test them on Windows 7 with Office 2010, I have not converted them as they are run by several sites globally who may not upgrade to Office 2010 at the same time. Hence they run in compatibility mode which in general is fine.
However, certain macros are veeeery slow and to the user would look like the app has hung. In debug I have found that the macro takes 10 minutes plus whenever it hits any of the following code:
Code: With Application .Calculation = xlAutomatic .MaxChange = 0.001 End With
ActiveWorkBook.PrecisionAsDisplayed = False It goes slow on each of the three 'lines' so it seems that it is actually doing an auto calc each time!
Is there some configuration I can do to prevent this? Setting auto calc to Manual didn't work and anyway I loose things, like data validation, when I save it in Excel 2010.
my existing macro, as the run takes to much time to complete. (at least 20min) I've already tried several loops, but no one worked for me. Following situation: There are two excel files, entries in column 73 - 85 will be copied from WorkbookRust to the other workbook if the numer in column 5 is the same. Not every cell within this columns contains data, so the macro should automatically jump to the last entry in each of the above mentioned columns, instead of predefine the range as you see in the code below. After the data is copied to the other workbook, it will be filtered acc. to Sub FilterMain and then copied back to WorkbookRust. As already said, the whole thing works, just to lame.
Sub Allmacros() Dim WorkbookRust As String WorkbookRust = ActiveWorkbook.Name ChDir "C:Documents and Settings vogtMy DocumentsRüstplausch" Workbooks.Open Filename:= _ "C:Documents and Settings vogtMy DocumentsRüstplauschCH_Revenue_2008.xls" Sheets("Main_Overview").Select Windows(WorkbookRust).Activate Application.run ActiveWorkbook.Name & "!UpdateEntries" Application.run ActiveWorkbook.Name & "!FilterMain" 'not ask to overwrite existing file Application.DisplayAlerts = False Workbooks("CH_Revenue_2008.xls").Save Workbooks("CH_Revenue_2008.xls").Close End Sub
I am trying to code a Macro so that i can take all the worsheets and save them as individual Workbooks. I wrote a macro that appeared to work, but, after it saves the first sheet as a workbook, i get a debug error.
MS VB Script error: Runtime error '9': Subscript out of range
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Code is below..
Sub saveall() ' ' For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
ThisFN = "C:Documents and SettingsUserDesktop" & ws.Name & ".xls" I = I + 1 Sheets(I).Select Sheets(I).Move ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _ ThisFN, FileFormat:=xlNormal, _ Password:="", WriteResPassword:="", ReadOnlyRecommended:=False, _ CreateBackup:=False
I have 3 worksheets in one workbook. I need to extract 10 random rows of information from about 193 rows in sheet 1, and post it in sheet 2 and I can't seem to find a way to make this happen correctly.
I need to count the frequency/occurance of strings "Manager", "Clerk", "HR" etc. that occur in the exact same column in multiple worksheets of a single workbook. COUNTIF works ok on a single sheet query but the formula is getting bigger if there are number of worksheets.
simplyfing the formula. Also is there anyway to put the formula on the column instead of row wise. I can use a single formula on the column instead on every row in Adminsheet.
To be clear my requirement is to count the occurrence of a search strings listed in Adminsheet column A across all worksheets and display count in Adminsheet column B
