Find And Remove Letters?

Dec 5, 2011

I can use find and replace to remove the following, however as I would be doing the same process numerous times it would be very tedious.

I would like 2 VBA scripts.

1 - replace the following letters (uppercase & lower) in Column A and C replace A, V, N, Z, X, Q

so if it finds A it would remove A from the cell.

The cells may contain other letters including these one's i.e

A123XCB235 or
123VBN7779A

2 - The second independent code would replace the characters replace A, V, N, Z, X, Q with P, M, L, R, J, H ie. A becomes P, V becomes M etc...

Again the cells may contain other letters including these one's i.e

A123XCB235 or
123VBN7779A

Remove Letters And Zeros From String

Oct 20, 2011

I have a list of about 1,400 numbers ranging in different lengths. What I'm trying to accomplish with a formula is to remove the single letter at the end of each number (not all numbers have them) and in addition to removing all zeros at the beginning of the number (again not all numbers have them).

Here is an example...say I have the following 5 numbers:

8014554
45678456
87451245
0008014554b
0008014554c

And what I need my formula to do provide is the following results instead:

8014554
45678456
87451245
8014554
8014554

So far I have started with the following =LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-1), but that will always remove the last character (number and letter).

If Statement To Remove Lowercase Letters

Aug 4, 2008

I'm having trouble with separate a text string.

The first part of the text is in all uppercases and the latter part is in lower cases as seen below.

PLAVIX BLOOD THINNER RXNo Title Assigned - #588303

I have to separate PLAVIX BLOOD THINNER RX and No Title Assigned - #588303

into 2 separate columns from that one column.

Is there a faster way of doing that than doing it manually?

Is there an If statement for that?

Remove Numbers - Leave Letters In A String?

Mar 18, 2014

I would like to take the below strings and remove any numbers and just leave letters. Or extract the payee from the string. If at all possible, I'd prefer this in a formula.

Card Purchase WAL Wal-Mart Sup 320004 0532 WAL-SAMS CENTRAL LA
Card Purchase WAL-MART #0532 053201 308 N AIRLINE HWY CENTRAL LA
Card Purchase LEBLANC'S FOOD S 874301 209 S. AIRLINE HWY CENTRAL LA[code]....

Basically, (the first line above) I'd like to remove the words "Card Purchase" and any numbers...or preferably just leave "Wal-Mart Sup" instead of the full string. I'd like the product of the first line to match the product of the 2nd line.

Find And Replace Letters

Apr 24, 2008

i have colums of data containing random figures containing letters and numbers.
I want to completely remove the letters from the colums, leaving me with just a numerical figure. Is there a way to do this? There is no set pattern to work with as there could be 1 cell with 2 numbers and 6 letters, and the next cell may have 6 numbers and 1 letter.

EG: COLUMN A
aaa567783a
3782dc
23388fjjas2
22dd

I want this to simply be
EG: COLUMN A
567783
3782
233882
22

Can I Find Cells That Contain LETTERS During The Last 12 Months

Dec 19, 2007

Log sheet Col a = Dates
Col d = Route ( Letters and numbers)
Col F = Times (1.2-2.3- examples)
Log sheet has 1,550 rows +

How I have been finding total for the Last 12 months is the formula below

=SUMIF(LOG!A:A,">="&TODAY()-365,LOG!F:F)

Now what I would like to try and do is the same BUT.
using COL D (on LOG sheet) to find out when I went to for example "JTF"
be advised that COL D is a route, so there are many results in each cell in col d..
So examples below

COL F On Log sheet
OERT-JPF-JMF-ASG1-JTF
OERT-JTF-JTF-ADC17-ADC17-ARAB3-ARAB3-DHAMC-JSK
OERT-JTF-JTF-ASG1-R655-JPF-JMF-LCL-JTF

Find Lowest Value In A Range Of Letters

Apr 30, 2007

I am looking for a formula that will return the lowest value from a five cell range using letters instead of numbers. If the 5 cell range is empty the cell will remain blank. Not all the 5 cells may be used - it could be anywhere from 1 to all cells. The weightings of the letters in terms of their numerical value are as follows:

F=0
P=1
M=2
D=3

Examples of desired results:

From A1 to A5 the following letters are inputted: P M M D P. Result in A6 = P as P is the lowest numerically in the above list. B1 to B3 = D D M. Result in B4 = M. C1 = F. Result in C2 = F. All cells blank from D1 to D5 = cell in D6 remains blank.

So in a 5 cell range the values could be:

blank, G, A, R, blank which equates to a result of 2 for an average, (3+2+1)/3 (the two blank cells are discounted).

Column Letters- VBA Command To Get The Letters

Nov 17, 2009

Is there a VBA command to get the letters, instead of the numbers, of the column of a selected cell?

I have to letter a list whihc means setting up a loop using character codes.

I may have to go into double letters so I am working on how I would set up the loop for if and when it gets past 90 and starts on double letters. so far the highest is the letter "U"

of course the easiest would be to pick up a column value as a letter

NT values do not get a number

A_____ _____NT###
B_____1_______C####
C_____2_______RMK###
D____ _______NT####

i am guessing the loop might involve some arithmetic test between the count and the character set 65-90. or maybe a mod thing.

Find And Remove Exact Value?

May 27, 2014

I am using the above code to find and remove data, at present the code does not find the exact match.

For instance if someone enters as it will remove any entry with as in it.

I want it to only remove specific data, so if someone types in as, and as is not in the list to look through I wan't them to recieve a message telling them to check spelling and enter exact value of data to be removed.

IE (enter Blauv to remove Blauv, Not BL and remove Blauv, Black, Blue)

The find method has a lookat arguement which you can define as xlwhole or xlpart, by default it is set to xlpart.

If you have a cell containing Blauv

.find("Bl") will find it, .find("Bl", lookat:=xlwhole) will not.

Find And Remove Specific Information From Column

Jun 3, 2009

I have a column 'AE' that contains the html code for ecommerce item descriptions. While importing/exporting back and forth with another program and my spreadsheet, the following was added all throughout the descriptions.

%0d%0a

In some places, it may be three or four times consecutively

%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a

Is there a macro script I could run to simply remove this any time it occurs in this column? It is just showing up as text and I am sure in another program it was representing something other than text, probably a space or hard return. Regardless, I don't need it.

See example below: ....

Using VBA To Find And Remove Multiple Instances From A List?

May 20, 2014

I have an input sheet with 3 columns: Currency pair, Tenors, and Value.

Like this:

EURUSD 1m 3
EURUSD 3m 0
EURUSD 1y 5
GBPUSD 1w 2
GBPUSD 1m 9
GBPUSD 2m 1

etc etc for about 100+ rows.

This input is exported from a system we have and may vary in length and values from time to time.

What I want to do is pull all the data for specific currency pairs (probably for 5 of the 10+ currency pairs it displays) onto another worksheet. And for each tenor for that currency pair, i want to perform 10-20 lines of analysis on the next sheet.

So, if GBPUSD was a currency pair I was interested in, I would need 10-20 lines for GBPUSD 1w, 10-20 lines for GBPUSD 1m, 10-20 lines for GBPUSD 2m, etc.

How can I pull this? While maintaining flexibility so if the tenors, currencies, and # of lines change?

Find And Remove Identical Entries In A List

Feb 13, 2007

I regularly have to add a few new lines to what is in fact a very simple data base I've had running for a long time in Excel. About 1200 lines now, one line per person. I add a dozen or so lines (i.e. people) at a time in a different colour.
When I re-sort the whole thing I run my eye down the list to spot partial double (i.e. duplicate) entries (the new ones in their own colour helps). Then I delete the double entries one by one. Pretty stoooopid, in'it?

How can I do this better, faster and more accurately with Excel to find just two duplicated data ( NAME and ID NUMBER) in a person's line (there are 15 columns altogether)? Or: Where and what can I search for (I've just spent nearly an hour trying to find an answer by myself, but don't really know what to search for)?

Have not seen any formula which works across (from left to right)

Is there an easy way in Excel 2010 either to tag/ and -or remove the duplicate which I could apply and then just copy downward? The formula must work from left to right, because many words repeat downward.
