I am trying to put text form 3 cells into 1 string. I got the 1st 2 but the 3rd I only want to extra the first part of the cell up to the 1st comma. This is what i have so far:

For example cell E81 would contain "abc, def, ghi" . I want to add to the string above only "abc" and not the entire cell content.
In my excel sheet I have a list of where they go, which are basically excel cells.. i.e. A1 is the top left corner.
What I am trying to figure out how to do is, is there a way that I can get excel to see "A1" and then put it in A1 of another sheet on the bottom. Thus I get the same grid I have on the wall, making a map of my things.
Also, I could just cut and paste, but the problem is I'm working on organizing the stuff on the wall, and if I do it the way I want to, when I move things, they should automatically be moved on the chart.
So basically I need it to look at a cell for the reference, choose text from another cell (which will be concaternated(sp) text), and then place it in the referenced cell in the chart sheet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using an IF,ISNA,VLOOKUP formula as follows which I am sure you are all familiar with :
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0)),"",VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0))
This formula works correctly, displaying the lookup value for K7. My query is between the"" I can place text to display when K7 is blank and this works correctly too. However I would like to place a formula in here. The formula is VLOOKUP(I7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0 i.e. the lookup value is now I7 and not K7 when K7 is blank.
I have tried the following and variations based on what I know but they return errors.

Any better way of using I7 as the lookup value when K7 is blank.
I have a problem when using the function of text(). I set "=TEXT(SUM(A1:A5), 0) + 5" in Cell A6. Assume the answer of SUM(A1:A5) is 10, the result in A6 will be 15.
My question is how to prohibit a string value [Text(SUM(A1:A5),0)] add a number value [5] to form the result 15.....
In the attached workbook i need to take out the % numbers from the text to populate the cells.
the Pay % cell is the % before the / and the receive % is after the /.
I'm currently working on a spreadsheet (see attached) which will have both numeric and text string data. This will be sorted by calender month and linked to another spreadsheet.
Could someone please list 2 functions for me.
The 1st would allow act like a filter allowing only data to be counted for a selected month from a drop down list.

I want to be able to automatically put the calculation of one cell, into the text of another cell.
so....
Cell A3 = A2-A1
And in another cell say B3, i want to be able to write text that says "The value of cell A3 is 'A3' "
I'm trying to enter relatively simple drug calculation formulas in Excel where the result is appended with the proper units to administer. For example, if I'm calculating for units of regular insulin with a formula such as:
=0.75*f2
I'd like the cell to make the above calculation, and append it with "Units Reg Insulin" or something similar. Thus far, I've just been putting the units as text in adjacent cells but the result looks a bit messy.
Is this possible? I'm using Excel 2007 and the Help index does not seem to offer much guidance about this.
As per title, I am trying to compare a column of text cells which contain "Yes" or are empty and a columns of numbers. If they are "Yes" and "1" on the same row, I want to output an "OK" message. Excel seems happy with the following code but it does not work and returns an empty cell if the two conditions are true.

The VLookup statement appears in place of the result when the macro is run. This is Excel 2007 and it runs to the end without error.

I need a function that states If a cell in the email column contains a string or value from the names column, it will result in a true statement so that I can separate out the emails that have these peoples first names.
I need to create a macro to do the following:
Search the activecell for a text string (a), and then either paste in text string (b) at the end of the cell if (a) is found, or text string (c) if (a) is not found.
For example, if the activecell has "AA/" in it, I want the cell to become "AA/01" (pasting in "01" at the end), and if the cell has just "AA" in it, I want it to still become "AA/01" (pasting "/01" at the end). The macro will be linked to a commandbutton.
The following concatenate function was working, then mysteriously stopped. When working it returned the data that I requested, now if I click on any concatenated cell and hit enter I get the function string, see below.

I have a column of data with letters in each cell, no numerical, only alpha. Now, some of those cells contain the letters "adj sub" as part of the text string in each cell. "Adj sub" is always at the beginning of the text string. As an example, a cell will look like this - "adj sub mhm". I want to delete rows whose cell description does not contain "adj sub" as part of the text in the cell.

I have come up with a cumbersome formula which will let me check if either of the two strings is a member of a list stored on another sheet. However, it fails if there is only one string in the cell, presumably as there is no linefeed for the formula to find. How can I modify the formula to cope with this situation?
There are also on occasions, three strings in the cell, but I can't seem to access the middle string with the formula. Simplified spreadsheet attached to show the problem. This must be formula-based, as we have a no VBA policy. If you think there is better way of doing this, please let me know.

The range contains a list of names. I want the sub to start with the first name and sum the value(long) which are in 7 columns to the left of the text string. Once this procedure has been done for the first name, it should go back up to the second name and do the same and so on. Once done I will return the name (cell A1 in another sheet) and its respective sum (cell B1 in another sheet) so that I have the list of names with their respective sum.

Is there a way to make a cell populate certain text based on conditions of other cells without putting the formula in the cell you want to populate. So that someone could type other text into the cell if the conditions were not met?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was able to find the syntax to add a cell within a text string but I am having a formatting problem. The cells which I am adding were using formulas that left decimals. Although I turned off all of the decimals on the cell, the values when I used the cell within the text string included all of the decimals and in some cases 6 or more decimal places. Is there a way to keep the formatting of the cell?

I want to remove a string of text from the front and rear of a cell value and would like to do it with one formula. I have tried using LEFT,RIGHT and LEN. I would Like to use the SUBSTITUTE formula as the user can define the actual string to be removed.

I do have a price list for my inventory for each product code (only letters)

When I'm writing in the order list, I'm writing in a single cell product code + size e.g. productA 5, productB 7
I need to get the corresponding price for each cell.
I need to find a formula which will search a list of cells looking for a particular text string. If it doesn't find this text string it then needs to search for the next one. For instance if I had a list of product codes: ABCD1234, BCD1234, ABCD2345, CDE23456, BCD2345 I want the formula to look up and see if the cell contains the text ABCD and if so return ABCD as the value, if not I want it to go on and see if the cell contains BCD and return the value BCD, if not then go on and search the value CDE etc. It seems like an easy job to do manually but I have a list of over 3000 codes to do this.

For example, =COUNTIF(A$1:A$19703,F1) returns a value to cells in column G if the value in column F equals any exactly matching value in A. I need a formula that works like the filter option "contains" so that if any cells in col A merely contain a string rather than exactly match or equal a string from column F I can get a count value returned.
