I have a drop down list. When I choose something from the list, it creates a description (text) in the next cell. I need to be able to copy/paste the text from the cell, but it will only let me choose the formula instead.
View 4 RepliesI would like to copy a formula in a cell and then paste only the text of the formula, but I can't figure it out. Basically, I would like to avoid going into the cells and absolute referencing or hitting F2, then copying the text.
When I hit "Ctrl C" to copy the cell, then hit "Alt/E/S/F/Enter" to paste the formula, it is just like a regular copy/paste formula-wise in that the references move.
If a cell contains the formula =b1 and the result shows as zero;
Is there any way of getting the text "=b1" in a cell next to it instead of zero?
I have a cell that contains various data but in the cell there will be a string of characters that will begin with either ON or TN followed by numbers. What I would like to do is have the sheet look at that cell and if there's a TN12345 (or any combination of numbers) or an ON123456 (same idea as the TN) I would like the sheet to pull just the ON or TN number out and paste it in a specific cell. The ON would have it's own cell to be placed in as would the TN.
Here's an example. C5 contains various data, a mix of text and numbers but it will have either an ON or a TN or both. I would like the sheet to automatically pull the TN number out and place it in A5 and the ON in B5. I would like this process to repeat all the way through the sheet to the max amount of rows since I have no way of knowing how many rows I'll need. Can this be done with a simple IF formula or does it have to be done in VBA or is it not possible at all.
I have the following code in another workbook that is used to populate a cell on the same sheet based on input to cells in column 'A'.
Is it possible to modify this for the attached workbook to select a cell with data (numbers) on the Input Data sheet in column 'E', add text to the beginning, ('CG' in this case), and paste the result to the Import Template in the corresponding cell of column 'A'? I currently have a formula copied to dozens of cells in 'A' but since the number of rows for the Input Template is variable, there are usually cells in 'A' that contain CG but no corresponding data in the rest of the row.
If I have a cell lets say A1 with a formula in it say "=A2" how do I copy A1 into A3 so that A3 will contain the text =A2 (and not the formula)?

o21 has formula =IF(J21>=U21,1,"")

and basically u21 and u22 are "=s20"
so may i know what formula i should use to simplify o21 and o22 so that i do not need to use u21 and u22

Let's say sheet - "delivery" - has a row1 that includes all possible delivery days. So A1 is 1.9.2013, B1 is 15.9.2013, C1 is 1.10.2013 and so on.
I want to make a macro, that will gradually go through whole row 3 in sheet "delivery" and look for "A1" date in sheet "Orders". Sheet "orders" have for example in column B the date of delivery, and in column C product of the delivery.
I want the macro to find all deliveries with "A1" date, and paste all products that will be delivered on this day under cell A1 (sheet delivery). then move on to the cell B1 (sheet delivery) - find all orders in sheet orders, that will be delivered on B1 date, and list all products with this delivery date under cell B1 (sheet delivery).

I am trying to vlookup. I want to copy and paste formulas instead of values. Can I use a formula like IF because VLOOKUP only returns the cell value?

I have one sheet with all the formulas for the entire workbook and would like to copy and paste the formulas from Sheet 1 to Sheet 2...Sheet 1 to Sheet 3 etc. without changing the cell referening in the original formula. I am not too sure how .formula works.

I have a spreadsheet where I enter text values in a cell, e.g. (.5 x .5) x 2 x .009. I want to find a way to automatically populated the cell to the right with the formula version, e.g. =(.5 * .5) * 2 * x .009 and format as three decimal place number.
One other question, is there a way to enter a template for entry in a cell. It would be nice if the text value above would take care of the parenthesis and multiplication signs for me.
On sheet1 have multiple groups of cells with drop down lists all with the default word "None" selected. After the user has gone through and changed some of these menus to other values in the lists, i am looking to copy the text only in the cells that have been changed to certain locations on sheet2. See attached spreadsheet for a better idea. If any additional info is needed.

I am trying to copy from the selected cell and paste one cell below(next row) in same column.
I copied and pasted text (last names) from Website A into File A. Then did the same from Website B into File B. I wrote index match formulas to compare columns between files. I've done this literally hundreds of times, and it's always worked. This time, however, I get ZERO matches - even though there are lots of them. Troubleshooting was straight-forward: it has to be website B. (Strange thing is, I HAVE used text from website B before in similar applications with no problems.) Something in the way they present the data is preventing matches. (Everything works when I manually type over text from Website B.) It's not an upper case/lower case problem. I tried copy-pasting values only - to no avail.

I have a supply worksheet that is set up where the new data is added into a new column, so that the report extends horizontally. All of the pricing is in Column I, quantities are listed in the new column, and then totals at the bottom with the following formula:
=(SUM(AF7:AF10)*I7)+(AF12*I12)+(AF13*I13)+(SUM(AF15:AF18)*I15)+(SUM(AF20:AF23)*I20)
When I copy and paste the cell, into the next column for a new order, it changes the quantity column from "AF" to "AG", which I want it to do, but it also changes the pricing column from "I" to "J". I then have to go in manually and change all the J's to I's. When I copy the just the formula, it keeps everything the same, and then I have to manually change "AF" to "AG".
Is there a way to copy and paste so that the pricing column stays fixed within the formula, but the quantity column changes?

I wonder if its possible to add a checkbox and when this checkbox is pressed it will automatically copy/paste the text to the next free cell of the other sheet, so I only need to type date.

Check box would be added in cell A17, A18, etc.
And the text would be copied to sheet Preventive Maintenance Records in the next available cell in column A.

Now, an explanation of the data:
1) I work for a small bank (CORP) that takes deposits and gives loan.
2) CORP books these trades using only system no. 7 and 11; other system nos. belong to customers.
3) When a single trade is booked, the 2 sides of the transaction is recorded (by Trade IDs) . E.g rows 2 and 3 relates to one trade. So if CORP loans money with system no.7 to CUSTB, who uses system no.22, it shows for CORP a loan and for CUSTB, a deposit.
4) Everyday, the data in "SheetWSS" is updated with a different number of rows from previous, but the number of columns remain the same.
So, here's what i'ld like the macro to do:
1) Go into Column C, find system no.7 and 11.
2) For each 7 and 11 found, Copy the next row . So if for e.g, system no.11 was found in C4, i want the ENTIRE ROW 5 to be copied.
3) Paste the entire next row in "SheetWSD" until we have a list of all opposing sides of the same transactions initiated by CORP.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought I may of been able to get away with just using a simple macro which I could duplicate to copy all the cells in a column between 2 and 251 and
pasting them to another column on another sheet and it only referencing the available text within the first column, but it would appear to be referencing the
blank cells as well, which is creating errors for another function using this column.
So ideally I would like a macro to copy just the text data from a column within the range (F2:F251) on worksheet "Expansion".
All the cells have formulas in them which create a unique text string from other cells on the same sheet.
Not all the cells within the column will be populated with text strings at the same time, but the rows of text will always start at "F2"
and fill down without blank cells between the list of text strings.
The list of text strings will then be copied over to a different worksheet "AG-1" and pasted into column "A" starting at cell "A2".
This function is then repeated 14 more times for (G2:G251) through to (T2:T251) each pasted to different
worksheets "AG-2" through to "AG-15" respectively, in column "A" starting at "A2".
The first column to be found in the process with a blank cell in the starting row of that column, would deem the process complete. Otherwise continue the
process through to column "T".
