How To Make The Macros Keep Working Even If The Sheet Is Moved Or Mailed To Another User
May 26, 2009
I have created a workbook ( with protected sheets) containing two macros " To Insert a Row ( Copying the formula from the row above) and "Delete a Row", both, assigned to a customized toolbar.
when I move the workbook, say from the folder where I created it originally to the desktop, the macros stop working giving error like THE MACRO " C:so n so... CAN NOT BE FOUND!
As I understand it hyperlinks set in a spreadsheet should work regardless of where you save and/or copy the spreadsheet i.e. as long as the directory location of the location / file the hyperlink is referencing doesn't change (notwithstanding, the user must have appropriate access rights to the relevant directory locations)
However, the situation I have is the spreadsheet was generated and saved to directory location A (intention being this would be the 'master' yearly template) and the hyperlinks set, all of which work when you open the spreadsheet in this directory location. But when I copy the spreadsheet to directory location B, which is intended to be the yearly 'register' location for the spreadsheet, none of the hyperlinks work? When I hold my cursor over a link in the copied spreadsheet, in directory B, I do not get a 'pop-up' path like I do in directory A and when I click a link I get an error message:
Microsoft Excel The address of this site is not valid. Check the address and try again.
As stated above the documents the hyperlinks relate to have not moved, they remain in the same template directory (i.e. the link path has not altered).
I did create a group of two shapes. One square and one circle. The main reason behind grouping them is to have them rotate around the same centre.
Now the problem of the usage of the shapes. I don't want them inadvertently shifted by the user. The rotation of the circle will be wobbly.
The circle is rotated by a module. Protecting the sheet makes the rotation of the circle stop working.
My thought was to overlay part of the sheet by an Active X label and set the BackStyle to transparent and there is no need to protect the whole sheet.
The problem now is that when I click on the label it turns white, and as soon as I move the cursor out of its perimeter the "underlying" circle will become visible again.
How to prevent this behaviour of the label. I want the label to stay invisible and protect the underlying shapes from being moved.
The attached workbook has a userform which was searching the same folder where this file is located for entries in columns "A" and "B" of files named in column "I" (workbook1, workbook2 etc).
I have this placed on a sharepoint and want to move the files into specific folders (folder1/workbook1, folder2/workbook2 etc.) so I can set them as view only folders to stop unuathorised editing.
I am now getting a "Subscript out of range" error after doing a search. I can see it's a problem with the file name as it's pulling it from text in a cell but can't work out!
I am trying to password protect some of the cells in a worksheet. However doing that starts giving errors with Macros. The Macros are no longer working and infact giving error. What can I do to stop that happening?
I have a workbook in excel 2003 which I had been running the following macros (listed below). We recently upgraded to Excel 07, and neither are working. When I try to run them, the "debug" option highlights the following line in the sort macro "Range("A2:z" & lastcell).Sort key1:=.Columns(1)". This is driving me crazy, as the macros worked perfectly under the older version of Microsoft. Is there an issue with crossfunctionality between '03 and '07'.
Private Sub Worksheet_change(ByVal target As Excel.Range) If target.Column = 1 Then ThisRow = target.Row startRow = 1 i = 1 Set ws = ActiveSheet maxRow = Cells.SpecialCells(xlLastCell).Row maxCol = Cells.SpecialCells(xlLastCell).Column ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone Do While i
I have a worksheet with 30,000 rows. But sometimes even if I have fewer records in this worksheet(lets say 1000) worksheet shows the same 30,000 rows. And its annoying when you try to navigate using vertical scroll bar. Is there any option to re-adjust the worksheet to make it more user friendly based on number of rows in current sheet.
I have a workbook which adds command bar named "Upload Processing" to Excel application if you open it.
The weirdest thing is, it hasn't got any macro stored anywhere or at least I can't see it anywhere (Alt+F11).
Note: Don't forget to use application.commandbars("Upload Processing").delete command from VBEditor to get rid of this newly added command bar when you are trialing.
I would like to place a command in a macro to have a workbook replicate itself WITHOUT replicating its macros. Is that possible? Is there a command? I am using Excel 2003.
I'm trying to do is delete a row of chosen cells in my form (form is locked with a password) using a macro then return back to the first cell below the deleted row. When I run the macro what's happening is that it's returning back to the cell chosen while writing the macro (which is at the very top A7). So if I'm several rows below A7, it deletes the row and then returns all the way back to the top of the form causing the user to have to scroll back down to where they were
All my macros have suddenly started crashing Excel 2007 when I try to run any one of them. I can record a new macro but even that newly recorded macro will crash Excel.
Service Pack 1 was downloaded and installed by Windows Update two days ago and I had successfully run macros after SP1 was installed.
Today, it's a no go and I'm at a loss as to what may have caused this problem. I have not installed any software lately, other than the Windows updates on patch Tuesday.
This is on a Vista Home Premium machine.
When I try to run a macro, Excel crashes with this info:
I am looking to create a macro that will edit the code of another macro that is already setup. Basically, I have a macro that will open and close every file that has data linked to this workbook. Because of the 255 character limitation of text in Excel, I have a simple macro to open/close each so it will bring over any additional characters past 255. Now, this macro is saved to a master file, and each month we do a save as, and start a new period on it. The files we open/close are named C:/data/RCC/FY2007/10543 - ifi/10543 CurrentMonth Rec.xls
Is there a way to make a macro, that will do a simple find -- replace in the VBA code of the original sheet, so that it looks for the right files. So, with the above example, I would replace "CurrentMonth" with whatever I enter into an inputbox (say AUG for August).
And if you have a moment, is there a way to make two input boxes, one to denote the Fiscal Year (in the file path it is the entry that is FY2007) and CurrentMonth, so that if it is the new fiscal month then it will create a new directory and save in that new location? So when it is FY 2008, I would do a save as C:/data/RCC/FY2008/10543 - ifi/10543 CurrentMonth Rec.xls?
I have a macro to collate data from multiple workbooks to a single sheet. The folder path to the source files can be chosen thorugh the macro. It runs perfectly in my system running on Windows XP. But it doesnt run on Wondows 7 system. Both are using MS Excel 2010. In Windows 7 system, while choosing the folder path where source files are located, it says "No items match your search" (screenshot attached). I would want the macro modified so that it runs on any platform. The macros that I'm using is given below:
I have a couple spreadsheet Excel 2003 that I have to Email, I use a few macros with these spreadsheets. The Macros are kept in my personal workbook. When I Email these sheets does the end user see the warning enable macros or do they just see the sheet as is. I am mailing the whole workbook but macros are in my personal workbook. If they see the warning is it possible for me to Email so they will not have to contend with that?
I am trying to put together a macro that waits for the user to input data and then continue running the macro.
All user input is for one cell and I am looking at more of an entire sheet worth of data.
Here is the scenerio.
I have one tab that pulls data out of a sharepoint list. I then have another tab that I dump data from another database into and then use vlookups to compare the data.
The problem is I need it update the sharepoint list. Then wait for the user to dump in the new data from the external database before continuing the macro and working with the vlookups.
Currently I am working this by running a few different macros to do it all, but I would like to condense it down to running one macro.
I recently had a virus on my computer and had to replace it. I had a ton of macros saved in my Personal.xlsb workbook, so I exported those modules and have now imported them to the new Personal.xlsb file. Now for some reason those macros no longer work in other files. Most of them are basic, like I have a macro to paste values or paste formats, etc. but I have some others that are very complex. The macros work fine as long as I am in Personal.xlsb, but if I try to use them in another open workbook I get the "all macros may be disabled or the macro may not be available in this workbook" message. I am using Excel 07 and have verified that macros are enabled.
Is it essential to enable macros in whatever the pc i use, if i am interested in using a form which i created in a different pc with macros. is there a way to avoid this. because each and every time i dont want to change the settings in excel in other pc. the form which i create will be filled by my colleagues and they have to send it back to me.
I attempted to create a user function as per the link that VBA Noob posted in this post http://www.excelforum.com/excel-worksheet-functions/619446-resolved-play-a-sound-when-a-cell-equals-a-certain-value.html
I get #Name error. I placed the wav file Applause.wav in the same folder as the workbook. What did I do wrong?. Also, assuming I get this problem sorted out, how would I represent the condition "pass" or "fail" as in cell B3 in the Alarm formula? Would it be; Alarm(B3,"Pass") or Alarm(B3,"=Pass") or something else?
i have an excel doc. with three sheets... i may start that macro on any sheet any cell the 1st thing that macro does is to go to sheet1 and after running the whole code it calls another macro... macro2
now macro2 runs in an infinte loop and runs evry 20 sec. the problem is every 20 sec the cursor comes back to sheet3.. i want the macro to return to the place where the user was working.. best wud be that the user can work seem lessly...
I have created code to enter data from the Active cell. However, I would like to edit it so that the user can only make this work if they are on Rows 6 through Row 29.
Here is the Sub DropDown7_Change() 'Right here I want: If ActiveCell. is in Row 6-29 Then Application.ActiveCell.Value = Range("D3").Value Application.ActiveCell.Offset(, 1).Value = Range("F3").Value Else Msg = "Move into the proper rows" End Sub How can I do a check before the code is executed to be sure the users active cell is in Rows 6-29.
I have nearly finished my project, but need to make the last real bit of code, then just some general tidying up.
What I want to do - I currently have two tabs in a userform - one called 'main' and one called 'extra'. - I want Main to always be shown to the user. - I want Extra to be hidden (is it possible to make the tabs invisible?) and for this form to be shown only under a specific condition
I have a question on my userform (using Option Buttons): "Did the customer ask about an extra product today?"
If the answer to this question is no - When the user hits the command button (after filling out the rest of the form), do nothing special - just return all the values to the worksheet
If the answer is yes - When the user hits the command button, I want them to be taken to the 'extra' tab. They will fill out some additional check-boxes, then hit another command box, which will return the info from both the 'main' and 'extra' sheets into the same row of the worksheet.
In brief: I want my 'extra' tab to be hidden, only to appear when 'yes' is selected, and for the results all to go back to the worksheet.
I am creating a userform in Excel 2007 which requires a user to pick their name from a drop down box then press Ok, what i want to do is disable the Ok button until the user field has been selected.
