Excel 2007 :: VBA To Make Command Button Inactive Until User Field Selected
Nov 14, 2011
I am creating a userform in Excel 2007 which requires a user to pick their name from a drop down box then press Ok, what i want to do is disable the Ok button until the user field has been selected.
I'd like to create a go back field/button/something that would allow a user (who is on a row, in a column very far right) to click to go straight to column A for that selected row.
I have managed to create a command button in excel 2007 that performs a macro upon a click. But, after re-opening the workbook, I am unable to right click on the button to recall the properties window.
We just upgraded to Excel 2007 from Excel 2000 and have run into a challenge relating to labeling a form command button. It appears that the length of text for a command button label has been shortened to 31 characters when setting the name using VBA. No such limitation shows up when I manually create such a button.
Following is the code that used to work to create the button and label in VBA (Excel 2000):
Excel 2007 I have a button that will export the worksheet to pdf and save it as Acrobat requires. I have a network folder set up and it saves the file with the name that I have programed in the macro. I would like to have the file name set up to be what is in cell C3 then a space and the specific words.
For example, if C3 contains "123456" I want the file to be named "123456_Warranty Calculator"
I will end up using this in several worksheets which will have a different name as part of the file name (based on the worksheet name).
I would also like to have the last part of the file name be the worksheet name. ie, "Warranty Refund", "PDR Refune", etc.
I will have several users that will be using the workbook and possible saving at the same time and want each person to be able to find the one they saved instead of it being overwritten.

I've been trying to research how to do this for a while now and still can't figure it out. My impression is that this is fairly straightforward in Excel 2010 since the menus and ribbons are easily customizable but not so in Excel 2007.
So far I can get macro shown as a button in the Quick Access Toolbar. But the issue is that I can't organize them or customize the icons.
I have a workbook with two worksheets, "Main" and "Control".
Both of them are with hidden tabs (unchecked "show sheet tabs").
On worksheet "Main" I have command button which opens worksheet "Control".
The assigned makro is: Sheets("Control").Select
The problem is: when I open "Control" and close after that the workbook, the next time when I open the workbook "Control" pops-up instead of "Main" even though I do not save it.
1. I need macro on "Main" which will allow me to open "Control".
2. Regardless I "Save" or "Don't Save" "Control" when selected and workbook is closed, to open the workbook always displaying worksheet "Main".
I have a file that contains detailed sales information for each sales person. It typically contains over 20k records and the managers find it difficult to look up their sales people.
Currently it is subtotaled for each sales person but there are about 450 sales people across the country and it's not easy to use.
I have seen other Excel files that use buttons and I am wondering if this might be the solution to this issue. In other words, can I create a button where the managers can just click it, key in their sales person's name and get at the records easier? If so, how does that work? How I could make this file more user friendly.
I have two option buttons. I would like to have a command button disappear if one option is filled and reappear when the other option is filled. What is the best way to do this?
I have 9 columns with various data and true/false checkboxes. Column 9 is labelled "Delete" and also contains a true/false checkbox. If column 9 is checked (True) and then a command button is pressed the corresponding row of data is deleted.what would the command button code be.
Sheet1 A2 = Name (chosen off sheet2) A3 = Job Title (chosen off sheet2) A4 = Department (chosen off sheet2)
Sheet2 Column A = List of names Column B = Corresponding Job Title Column C = Corresponding Department
I need to be able to choose a name off sheet2, click the command button and it send selected name, job title, and department to sheet1 to the respective cells.
I'm trying to Filter a list by the criteria selected in a listbox, and activated by a command button. My problem is the sort criteria. I have 11 regions, numbered 01EPS through 11EPS. Sorting by any of these criteria works just fine.
The problem is that I also want to be able to sort by ALL of the regions at once. I can do this by using a custom filter. I recorded a macro to see what the difference was, and it simply a matter of changing 01EPS to "=*EPS". However, adding that to my case list results in an error message of "Compile Error: Syntax Error".
so I know how to change the color of a command button(right click, properties), but is there a way to change the color to a specific red green blue range? lets say 102 28 02 for example
Is it possible to have a user form command button perform link or steps that are recorded with macro recorder? I am trying to reformat cut and paste a xls raw data file. I am trying to keep my file uploads to a min., but can upload an example if necessary.
Within a worksheet, I have several radio buttons, allowing the user to select only one of them. Using VBA, how do I recognize which radio button the user selected?
I'm having a problem creating a Reset All command button that will remove user entered unlocked cell values from an entire workbook save for one specific worksheet. So for example, I have five tabs labeled as "DTF", "Week 1", "Week 2", "Week 3" and "Week 4". I want one single command button (placed in the "DTF" worksheet) to remove all of the unlocked cell values from "Week 1" to "Week 4".
I have inherited support for the an Excel 'program' that seems to be fairly unstable. I am currently having problems with the following code in a subroutine (executed when the user presses a command button):
With ActiveSheet.PageSetup .PrintTitleRows = "$1:$7" .PrintTitleColumns = "" .PrintArea = ActiveSheet.UsedRange End With
Sometimes it works and sometimes I get the following error: Run-time error '1004' Unable to set the PrintArea property of the PageSetup class.
… on the .PrintArea = ActiveSheet.UsedRange
I am having a hard time figuring out what is causing its wishy-washiness. Running the following code (launched from worksheet named 'consumer' with a command button):
We have one shared excel workbook and it is used by many people (more than 20 simultaneously), is there any way to auto save & close the workbook (session) if a user is inactive for specified time.
I have a pivot table which I want to force the all of the pivot table items to be selected for a particular pivot table field. One would think that this would be as easy as unlocking all cells on the sheet with the exception of this pivot field and then locking the worksheet. This doesn't work though as I am generating multiple pivot tables on the same workbook for the same range and I get this message: "this command cannot be performed while a protected sheet contains another PivotTable report based on the same data source...".
My thinking is that I can do something along the lines of this:
Private Sub Worksheet_PivotTableUpdate(ByVal Target As PivotTable) Dim oPI As PivotItem Application.ScreenUpdating = False If Target.PivotFields("Item Sold").PivotItems.Count Target.PivotFields("Item Sold").VisibleItems.Count Then
[Code]..
This is failing right away though on the If Target.Pivot.... line.
I was thinking of how the Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) macro can be used to paste values instead of formula when the user uses Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V. Instead of assigning a macro to a command button for user to activate.
Suppose I have a worksheet where the range ("D7:D56") is where I would want the user to paste his values in it. I have to factor in the possibility that these values have formulas attached to them, and that the user is not tech-savvy enough to know about the "paste special --> values" functionality of excel, and chooses to use the Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V method instead.
What then appears are ####### which might alarm the user.
Neither would we want the user to press a button (which we can assign the xlpastevalues macro as an alternative) as that adds an extra step for the user. There is also a chance the user might not use the button, or overlooked it.
Is it possible to use the Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) macro, or sth similar, to paste values instead of formula when user uses Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V?
I'm just trying to figure out how to implment UDFs. I got a nice tool that provides linear interpolation for a data table. Unfortunately after saving, closing and opening the file the cells only show #NAME? in it. Do I have to activate macros or something like that?
In the following extract, I would like to have today's date placed into Col K when an entry is made into Col J.
Entry into Col J is from a validation list of 3 options. What I desire is that when one of these options is selected ("Complete"), then I would like today's date to be written into Col K.
Currently Col K has a validation list which comprises dates from 1st of each month from July to June.
I need a fixed date as text preferably, so was thinking the VBA function "Date" on a Change Workbook Sub.
The information is currently part of a Table in Excel 2007 that has about 500 records.
Looking for a way to open outlook in minimized state with excel commandbutton? seems like all the code for email put the email in outbox, and will not send.
I believe that I am finally getting the hang of pivot tables and VBA ... pretty nice. Now for my latest frustration - calculated fields.
I have a pivot table created which compares two years of data. The problem seems to be that this data is from the same data field (PINSAL) even though it shows in two columns (year 2007 and year 2008).
1 - I need to subtract the 2007 figure (column C) from the 2008 figure (column D) in a calculated field called DollarVariance
2 - I need to divide DollarVariance into the 2007 figure to create a calculated field called PercentVariance
This seems easy to do if I had two different variables used to create the 2007 and the 2008 data but it is the same datafield. Can I use column letter? Can I use the column name assigned by the pivot routine (12 - 2007 and 12 - 2008)?
I have a table of data which I am analysing in a Pivot Table. For the majority of the data, the Pivot works very well: however I have a small issue, but it subsequently means the Pivot is useless.
Within the table array that I am referring to, there is a column of data of "Days per employee for a given period". The rows of data within the table array relate to every absence entry per employee, but this final column of data always contains the same figure (although can differ from employee to employee).
When I put the data into the Pivot, I can summarise the absence(s) as a simple sum. However, this final column of data should not be summed, since it is already the sum figure.
This figure though needs to be part of the Pivot, since I need to report on the percentage of absence days per type over the given period. So, the simple representation of =absence day(s)/worked days does not work... well I cannot get it to work. Additionally I have tried features like % of, but nothing.
I am trying to attach a hyperlink to a command button in excel 2003. I open the control toolbox, select command button and place it on the worksheet. with the button selected and in design mode I click on the hyperlink button on the toolbar and allocate the hypelink address. Click on the button and it works fine untill I exit design mode then the button stops working.
