Macros That Were Working In Excel 2003 Are Not Working In 2007
Jan 25, 2010
I have a workbook in excel 2003 which I had been running the following macros (listed below). We recently upgraded to Excel 07, and neither are working. When I try to run them, the "debug" option highlights the following line in the sort macro "Range("A2:z" & lastcell).Sort key1:=.Columns(1)". This is driving me crazy, as the macros worked perfectly under the older version of Microsoft. Is there an issue with crossfunctionality between '03 and '07'.
Private Sub Worksheet_change(ByVal target As Excel.Range)
If target.Column = 1 Then
ThisRow = target.Row
startRow = 1
i = 1
Set ws = ActiveSheet
maxRow = Cells.SpecialCells(xlLastCell).Row
maxCol = Cells.SpecialCells(xlLastCell).Column
ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone
Do While i

I recently had a virus on my computer and had to replace it. I had a ton of macros saved in my Personal.xlsb workbook, so I exported those modules and have now imported them to the new Personal.xlsb file. Now for some reason those macros no longer work in other files. Most of them are basic, like I have a macro to paste values or paste formats, etc. but I have some others that are very complex. The macros work fine as long as I am in Personal.xlsb, but if I try to use them in another open workbook I get the "all macros may be disabled or the macro may not be available in this workbook" message. I am using Excel 07 and have verified that macros are enabled.

All my macros have suddenly started crashing Excel 2007 when I try to run any one of them. I can record a new macro but even that newly recorded macro will crash Excel.
Service Pack 1 was downloaded and installed by Windows Update two days ago and I had successfully run macros after SP1 was installed.
Today, it's a no go and I'm at a loss as to what may have caused this problem. I have not installed any software lately, other than the Windows updates on patch Tuesday.
This is on a Vista Home Premium machine.
When I try to run a macro, Excel crashes with this info:

By chance I have opened a sheet with some macro and after that 'right click' is not working in any of the excel sheets (even newly created ones) in sheet names tab.
i.e., I can't delete/rename/insert etc in any sheet by rightclicking the sheet name.
Even the Edit->'delete sheet' is disabled. However, Insert->worksheet is enabled.
How to make the right click enabled. (excel version 2003)

I have a macro to collate data from multiple workbooks to a single sheet. The folder path to the source files can be chosen thorugh the macro. It runs perfectly in my system running on Windows XP. But it doesnt run on Wondows 7 system. Both are using MS Excel 2010. In Windows 7 system, while choosing the folder path where source files are located, it says "No items match your search" (screenshot attached). I would want the macro modified so that it runs on any platform. The macros that I'm using is given below:

I've got a spread sheet at work that is shared between 4 people. It's password protected and its been protected so only four of us can edit it. It was working fine until yesterday for no reason the auto filter stopped working. The drop down arrows are still there but nothing happens when you click on them?
The sheet was made on excel 2003 but one of the users uses the newer excel which we will all eventually get.

(Excel 2003, using Format/Cells)
I have selected a range of multiple rows and columns. I can change the alignment, cell color, where border lines appear, and the color of border lines.
However, I can not change the border line style. No matter what style I select, when drawn on the sheet it apppear as a thin solid line. I've tried all the dashed/dotted line options, but they appear to have no effect.
Ultimately, I want to color alternating rows of cells, and (since coloring hides grid lines) I want to add border lines the same color and style as the hidden grid lines.

I need a function to work out what the date will be 45 WORKING days after today(), this function needs to exclude Saturdays, Sundays and any Public Holidays i.e. there could be either 10 or 12 weekend days added into the calculation depending on when today() is plus any additional Public Holidays.
I am using Excel 2003 although it will need to work in Excel 2010 shortly.

On one of our computers at work, Excel is acting especially strange. The conditional formatting in Excel on one of our computers is not working. In addition, we cannot fill a cell with any color or change the color of the writing. We can click a color for the letters and type it in, but immediately after another cell is highlighted, the writing goes black again. When we try to highlight multiple cells with the cursor, the cells are black instead of the normal color. This happens to not just spreadsheets that are new, but existing spreadsheets on our shared drive from only this one computer as well. No other computers are affected this way. All other computers show the spreadsheets fine and do not have any functionality issues.

I wrote a macro to list all the excel files from a directory and its sub-directories to an excel sheet. It is working in excel 2003 but shows error (object does not support this action) in 2007. Actually I have copied almost this entire macro from excel 2007 help only. Can somebody modify this to use in both the versions of excel?

I'm trying to validate a cell in Excel 2007 that should contain only two letters.
Formula:
Code:
=IF(AND(LEN(A1)=2,ISTEXT(A1)),TRUE,FALSE)
When the value of A1 is JK, the result is TRUE
When the value of A1 is 12, the result is FALSE
When the value of A1 is 3K, the result is TRUE
When the value of A1 is K3, the result is TRUE
When the value of A1 is 123, the result is FALSE
When the value of A1 is JKL, the result is FALSE
When the value of A1 is 3, the result is FALSE
When the value of A1 is K, the result is FALSE
The LEN function works as expected, but the ISTEXT function does not, whenever the cell contains a number and a letter. I've tested the LEN and ISTEXT functions separately, and get the same results.
Is it me, or is it Excel?

I have searched and found many examples of code that will lock cells once data has been entered. But for some reason, I cannot get it to work in my workbook. The weird thing is, I have successfully got them to work on blank workbooks. I unlock a range I want people to be able to edit, I protect the workbook, I enter the code, and it works. But I do the same thing on my workbook, nothing locks.
I've tried locking all the cells on a sheet, and only unlocking a small range, as in the examples (A1:A10), and I cant get it to work. I've tried not pre-protecting the sheet, I've tried 4 or 5 different examples of code. If it wasn't for the fact I've gotten it to work on blank workbooks, I'd think VBA was disabled or something. I can't post a copy of my workbook for you all to look at because its on a stand-alone computer at work (and the USB is disabled for info-sec).

I can see the cursor move to all the desired cells when this macro executes; it just isn't dropping any data where it should be. I have been working at this stage for the last five hours with no success. I don't know whether my copy-paste methodology is broken or if it is my selection criteria

I have a workbook which adds command bar named "Upload Processing" to Excel application if you open it.
The weirdest thing is, it hasn't got any macro stored anywhere or at least I can't see it anywhere (Alt+F11).
Note: Don't forget to use application.commandbars("Upload Processing").delete command from VBEditor to get rid of this newly added command bar when you are trialing.

When you hit the enter button, it should jump to the cell below the one you currently have selected. Well, mine doesn't do that anymore? My tab works fine to go to the cell to the left, but enter just keeps the current cell selected. I know it isn't the Keyboard, b/c it works for every other app. What have I disabled/enabled to cause this? This happens with both the "return" enter button and the enter on the number pad. As of right now, either a mouse click or the down arrow is the only way for me to jump to the next cell.

I have constructed a macro, (with lots of help from the fine people on this site), and have distributed it to several people in the company. The macro was written in Excel 2003, and runs perfectly on all the machines running Excel 2003, but persons using Excel 2000 are getting a runtime error, variable not defined.
Is there a trick to getting a macro to run in both versions of Excel?

I'm trying to do is delete a row of chosen cells in my form (form is locked with a password) using a macro then return back to the first cell below the deleted row. When I run the macro what's happening is that it's returning back to the cell chosen while writing the macro (which is at the very top A7). So if I'm several rows below A7, it deletes the row and then returns all the way back to the top of the form causing the user to have to scroll back down to where they were

why my Macros have suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason?
For Example - one macro would run when a Cell in Column A was selcted. It would trigger a macro to save the workbook.
I'm not giving details of what the specific macros do as it's more of a question as to why macros in a workbook just suddenly cease to function.

I have a spreadsheet that collates a list of data from week order and puts them in a graph. I have a macro created that basically does the graph, it works fine in 2003 but not in office 2007. I get an error "Run Time Error '1004' Application-defined or object-defined error, then when I click the debug button it highlights "ActiveSheet.ChartObjects.Delete". I'm not sure if when its trying to create a new graph its attempting to delete the old one and isnt deleting it? The full code for the macro is below:
Sub updateStuff()
Dim searchResult As Range 'Result of the find operation - to check if it has worked or not
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
If SheetExists("OTIF Chart") Then
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Sheets("OTIF Chart").Delete
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
End If
Sheets("OTIF's").Select
Range("B4:N4").Select
Selection.Copy
Sheets("Graph").Select
Range("B1").Select................................

I've worked with Excel for many years and have just begun writing VBA in Excel 2007, so I am really stumped by this:
SR = 1
SC = 1
TR = 40
TC = 2
Worksheets("ChartData").Activate
' Works
ActiveSheet.Range("A1:B40").Select
' All of the following Fail w/1004 Error
ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(1, 1)).Select
ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(1, 1), Cells(40, 2)).Select
ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(SR, SC), Cells(TR, TC)).Select
At first I thought I had a bad install,
but this is happening on two manufacturer installed systems...
And I seem to be following the documentation for the use of Range with Cells.
Am I missing something?

CriteriaRange:=Worksheets("Transaction Data").Range("criteria"), _
CopyToRange:=Worksheets("Transaction Data").Range("Unique_PCT_List"), Unique:=True
