Index Match With Small For Generating Result In Ascending Order Even If Values Same

May 19, 2014

Here is a code for me to print the names in ascending order even if values are of same means it is showing one name only instead of the other name

means if values are A=1 B=2 C=3 D=4 E=2

it has to show like this A B E C D

But the result is coming like this A B B C D

Formula which i used

=OFFSET(B$6,MATCH(SMALL(C$6:C$18,ROW()-ROW(C$6)+1),C$6:C$18,0)-1,0)test.xls

Here i am attaching the sample file for your reference

INDEX MATCH And MIN / SMALL To Pull First And Second Smallest Values From Array

Jan 18, 2014

I'm using this formula to lookup data based on the lowest average.

[Code] .....

The problem is that the minimum average is a two way tie, and I need to return both data sets. It just happens to have the same average.

I've tried using SMALL(array,1) and SMALL(array,2) in place of MIN above, but it gives me the same data set. I've also tried resizing using offset.

See attached : sample.xls‎

Using SMALL And INDEX (MATCH) In A Table

Feb 16, 2014

I have a Pivot table (see picture) and in another field I want to be able to type in the Month and Year (e.g. January 2012) and return the worst performer of the 8 suppliers. I have been trying to use SMALL in conjunction with INDEX(MATCH(MATCH)) but it doesn't appear to be working.

I am sure there is a simple solution but it is evading me at the moment.

excel.jpg

This is where I am at with the formula. Maybe I can use the IF function somehow?

=INDEX('Pivot Tables'!B19:I19,MATCH(Summary!G3,'Pivot Tables'!A20:A41,0),
MATCH(SMALL('Pivot Tables'!B20:I41,A5),'Pivot Tables'!B20:I41,0))

Return Result From Match Not In Index?

Nov 10, 2011

What I want to do is, given the data in col. a, I want to supply a number(range) of strings which can be found in column a, whenever a string is found, which exists in given range, I want to write the string from the Key(col. c) in col b instead of the value from the string that matches a value.

See below for example of what I got working but not exactly what I was looking for

Col. A- Data
Orangegreen
Blackwhite
Blueyellow

Col. B - Result

Col. C - Keys
Orange
White
Yellow

I used

Code:
=INDEX(A1:A3,MATCH("*"&C1&"*",A1:A3,0))

This does produce a result, but not entirely what I am after.

This requires only one string to search for, and will in cell B1 result in a value of 'Orangegreen' as I can only supply one valeu to the function. What I want to do is supply the function with a range of values, and have those values outputtet in colb instead af the value of cells where the result is found.

I tried modifying the function to include a range, but that does not produce a valid result.

INDEX MATCH Then Pull First Result

Dec 28, 2009

I have two lists of values in ascending order. Column A is an identifier and is always one more than the previous. Column B is ascending as well, but there is never any guarantee that it will increase from one row to the next or how much it will increase when it does.

My index formula looks like this: =INDEX(A2:A21,MATCH(D9,B2:B21,1)+1)

In this example, if D9 = 1 then it needs to return 6 but instead returns 10. How can I make this index for my purpose? Or should I be looking for a different function?

Index/Match From Sumproduct/Countif Result

Feb 27, 2010

I am using this to count how many times a particular number appears across numerous sheets, My sheets are in a Named Range MySheets....

=SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF(INDIRECT("'"&MySheets&"'!A2:A30"),A2))

This works great.
What I now need to do is to find ALL matches and return B1 from those sheets..

GHIJKLM1Countif ResultFirst ResultSecond ResultThird ResultFourth ResultFifth ResultSixth Result25AppleBananaPearMangoOrange31Banana43BananaMangoOrange

I have played around and the closest I can get is with this...

=IF(COUNTIF(INDIRECT("'"&MySheets&"'!A2:A30"),$A2),INDIRECT("'"&MySheets&"'!B1"))

This as you may know only returns the result B1 from the first sheet within MySheets.

VLOOKUP / INDEX And MATCH To Return All Values That Match

Feb 4, 2014

I have two sheets of data , sheet A and Sheet B.

Sheet B contains a column called "Name" and for each name, and for each name there are corresponding numbers. In sheet A, I have a "list of interest" in column A. What i want to do look through the data in sheetB to find a match from the list of interest and return the corresponding letters, located in column A.

I have filled out the first two rows of results that should be returned as an example.

One idea i had was to put a vlookup formula in each column result 1 to result 6 so i can catch all 6 "Serves" columns from column B, but there may be duplicates in the serve columns and vlookup only reports the first match.

Ranked Unique And In Ascending Order

Aug 19, 2008

1) List of 500 employees, each allocated an account number where the payroll should be applied, in cells N1 through to N500.

2) Account numbers contain many uniques, ie employees within same department / function

3) require a list of unique account numbers, ranked in ascending order with the budget value, in rows O510 through to Oxxx (depending on how many unique account numbers exist)

4) this happens for 4 companies over 20 spreadsheet tabs for each company for each type of employment cost (each tab has different account numbers)

I know I can do this by manually copying the account numbers to another tab, sort them, remove uniques and then copy the result back o the summary area, for sumif formula, but was hoping for something a little more 'automatic', as these spreadsheets will be provided to payroll staff in each company for completion.

VBA Re-organise A Table In Ascending Order

Jan 29, 2010

I need now is to provide a separate filtered list to the side (Starting from column M.

In the quickest way possible (as the data is going to stretch to 2-3 thousand rows I suspect :s), I need to, after selecting a track of interest using a list box on the sheet (Eg Brands Hatch), and a season (eg 2006, 2007, 2008 etc or ALL), and a race class (Eg A, B, C or ALL), have a macro display the data matching the selected criteria to the left of my data from column M1. This needs to be ordered with the smallest lap times (from column F) at the top...

The idea is that I can select a track, and some filter data and display a history of the fastest recorded laps at that circuit from the long list of data I have. I can't use the filter function within Excel as I'm going to need to generate and copy this data for export to an output file later on.
