Index/Match From Sumproduct/Countif Result
Feb 27, 2010
I am using this to count how many times a particular number appears across numerous sheets, My sheets are in a Named Range MySheets....
=SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF(INDIRECT("'"&MySheets&"'!A2:A30"),A2))
This works great.
What I now need to do is to find ALL matches and return B1 from those sheets..
GHIJKLM1Countif ResultFirst ResultSecond ResultThird ResultFourth ResultFifth ResultSixth Result25AppleBananaPearMangoOrange31Banana43BananaMangoOrange
I have played around and the closest I can get is with this...
=IF(COUNTIF(INDIRECT("'"&MySheets&"'!A2:A30"),$A2),INDIRECT("'"&MySheets&"'!B1"))
This as you may know only returns the result B1 from the first sheet within MySheets.

I would like to write a formula that I believe will be a SUMPRODUCT formula with a very complicated string of MATCH and INDEX (I think). I hope this can be written in one formula - but if I need a couple to get there, that would be okay too. I am modifying an existing workbook that currently does the calculation, but it need a separate sheet for each payment - up to 12, but it can't be easily modified for more, and I need to do about 120. I can do limited SUMPRODUCT formulas and can do some limited MATCH formulas, but I can't begin to figure out how I would string this formula together. Hopefully what I need to do is clear with the excel shot below. If not, I could post a sheet that does the calculation for one payment. Thank you for working any magic you can on this.
I will try to explain how this formula needs to work. The formula needs to calculate interest on a payment, from one date to another date using a set of fixed interest rates that are established for each quarter. So this is what the formula needs to do. The workbook has a table (see below) that identifies the quarter - dates from and to, the number of days in the quarter (may be needed in the formula, but maybe the formula would calcualte?) The first and last quarter would most likely not be applied for the full number of days, since the payment would be after the start of a quarter, and the end date may not be at the end of the quarter. It needs to determine if the payment falls in a quarter, how many days then are in that quarter, and apply the base dollar amount for the number of days at the daily interest rate. So it would need to look at all dates and do this calculation and add each of the quarters together until it gets to the "Calculate to date" (cell J5). In the sheet below, I would put the formulas for each paymant in cells K8 to K14.

What I want to do is, given the data in col. a, I want to supply a number(range) of strings which can be found in column a, whenever a string is found, which exists in given range, I want to write the string from the Key(col. c) in col b instead of the value from the string that matches a value.
See below for example of what I got working but not exactly what I was looking for
Col. A- Data
Orangegreen
Blackwhite
Blueyellow
Col. B - Result
Col. C - Keys
Orange
White
Yellow
I used
Code:
=INDEX(A1:A3,MATCH("*"&C1&"*",A1:A3,0))
This does produce a result, but not entirely what I am after.
This requires only one string to search for, and will in cell B1 result in a value of 'Orangegreen' as I can only supply one valeu to the function. What I want to do is supply the function with a range of values, and have those values outputtet in colb instead af the value of cells where the result is found.
I tried modifying the function to include a range, but that does not produce a valid result.

I want to pull the file location of a hyperlink to populate a image control in a form. I have 150 names, each with pictures. So I need to do a index,match or vlook up within the VBA and make the result the active cell. From there I know how to pull the file location out. Just need to know how to make the address of a index match result in vba.

I have two lists of values in ascending order. Column A is an identifier and is always one more than the previous. Column B is ascending as well, but there is never any guarantee that it will increase from one row to the next or how much it will increase when it does.
My index formula looks like this: =INDEX(A2:A21,MATCH(D9,B2:B21,1)+1)
In this example, if D9 = 1 then it needs to return 6 but instead returns 10. How can I make this index for my purpose? Or should I be looking for a different function?

Now I'm trying to improve the functionality of the file attached above.I've attached the file again with another drop-down menu. What I'm trying to do is to have a sum of all the months between the two months indicated in the drop down menu.For example by picking two months from the drop down menus, I want to know the sum of the values between Jan-Mar (Jan, Feb and Mar), or for example Jul-Oct (Jul,Aug,Sep and Oct)...
I've tried to combine SUMPRODUCT with INDEX and MATCH but it doesn't work. I want to build upon this formula:
[Code]....
I forgot to mention that I have multiple strings (column E) which are NOT unique. Basically "VLOOKUP way" won't work, rather it should be "SUMIF way".
In the attached file I've added one additional row (r19), which is the same as r18, just to try how the summing will work.

Here is a code for me to print the names in ascending order even if values are of same means it is showing one name only instead of the other name
means if values are A=1 B=2 C=3 D=4 E=2
it has to show like this A B E C D
But the result is coming like this A B B C D
Formula which i used
=OFFSET(B$6,MATCH(SMALL(C$6:C$18,ROW()-ROW(C$6)+1),C$6:C$18,0)-1,0)test.xls
Here i am attaching the sample file for your reference

1.....I......a.....d.....g
2.....II.....b.....e.....h
3.....III....c.....f......i
As you can see, the number I has a,d,and g, II has b,e,and h, and III has c, f, and i
I want to make formula that if I make the input g it would return I, f would return III, and c would return III, and so on
I want to make four formulas by using VLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, INDEX&MATCH separately.

I have a worksheet where I am trying to count the number of occurences of several text strings.
For example:
I'm trying to count how many times "paid in full" and "fully paid" occur in column A.
I have two formulas, and both seem to work, but since I don't really understand either of them, I'm wondering which I should use and how I would adapt it to include additional text strings. (Like adding "paid" to the list)
Here are my formuals (I didn't write either of them, another co-worker did)
=(COUNTIF(A:A,"paid in full"))+(COUNTIF(A:A,"fully paid"))
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A50={"paid in full","fully paid"}))
Also, if there is another and easier way to do what I'm trying to do, I'd love to know.

Sheet 1 (raw data)
column a = day
column b = weeknum
column c = Employee Name (5 names)
Sheet 2 (sheet I would like to create graphs)
I need to sum total records of each employee per week. For example:
column a2:a6 are each possible employee name
column b1:h1 are weeknums 1-7
I've tried countif but I'm only able to make that work if there's a helper column.

I have a sheet with repeated dates for several months and I need to break out data by week and then by certain criteria. I can do 1 or the other but combining the COUNTIF formula and the SUMPRODUCT formula has proven to be beyond me.
I have this now:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(D2:D31719"7/19/2008"+0),--(G2:G31719>"5"))
but it returns a value of 0 which is incorrect.
What I need to do is have the formula return a sum of all of the fields in colG that are >5 within a date range. Once I find that # I have to divide it by another field and multiply by 100 to get the percent.

From the attached file, I am trying to match the date and time stamp (in cell A1) with that from the other data (in this example in cell E1) and return the data (from cell F1) to cell C1. So basically any date and time stamp before 04/03/09 04:00 will return a value of 44 (this value should appear, therefore in cells C1 - C30)

We know how INDEX/MATCH works, and it's very nice. I attached a COUNTIF to it to count how many times the index finds itself on another table; if it doesn't find itself, then it goes blank. However, this time I need to count how many times it finds a certain string condition in the other table.

See attached file, "Rate Sample Index-Match Formula".
I need a formula to return the value at the cross section of two (2) lookup values that match. This formula will be input into column D under, "RATE" on the 1st tab, "TEST FILE".
In the 1st tab, "TEST FILE" there are a series of columns as follows;
A = Service
B = From
C = To
D = Rate
In the 2nd tab, "RATES" there is a series of rates with drivers From (green) & To (blue)
The formula needs to do the following;
1. Lookup the "From" value in column B on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to column B2:B59 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in green
2. Then Lookup the "To" value in column C on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to row C1:BH1 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in blue
3. Then return the value at the cross section of the match "From" (point 1 above) & "To" (point 2 above) in range C2:BH59
For Example;
The rate From SYD To CBR = 0.33. I have highlighted this in yellow on both tabs to show where the formula needs to lookup the data to return the answer.
Additionally, if we were to add service as an additional lookup match how would this work?

I'm trying to use the sumproduct formula to query 3 columns: I want it to look in column E for either a "P" "C" or an "A", multiply the corresponding numbers in column D and F, and put the sumproduct total in cell C5, D5 and E5 for each formula below. The problem is that I keep getting #VALUE! result. It's because some cells in the range have #N/A in them, but I can't control that.
Here is my formula:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(E9:E70="P"),D9:D70,F9:F70)
=SUMPRODUCT(--(E9:E70="A"),D9:D70,F9:F70)
=SUMPRODUCT(--(E9:E70="C"),D9:D70,F9:F70)
How can I use this formula if for example cells D15-17 have no values or are #N/A?

I haven't been this deep into excel before. The deeper I look, the more potential I recognize, the more amazed I get. That being said, I have come to a tough count issue. Let me attempt to explain as precisely as possible.
My current worksheet is large but I am only particularly concerned with two columns of information (Regions) and (Days). The logic I am attempting is something along the lines of Count If Region = East, or West, and Days is greater than 0, less than 60.
I am open to any and all suggestions on how to tackle this situation. I have been able to achieve similar counts by using pivot tables but the dynamic nature of these two columns presents some difficulties that my “new user” mind has been unable to work through.

I have two sheets of data , sheet A and Sheet B.
Sheet B contains a column called "Name" and for each name, and for each name there are corresponding numbers. In sheet A, I have a "list of interest" in column A. What i want to do look through the data in sheetB to find a match from the list of interest and return the corresponding letters, located in column A.
I have filled out the first two rows of results that should be returned as an example.
One idea i had was to put a vlookup formula in each column result 1 to result 6 so i can catch all 6 "Serves" columns from column B, but there may be duplicates in the serve columns and vlookup only reports the first match.

I am using the formula below to count the occurences of relevant text strings (names) in a cell that can contain many separate strings. It works great. "References!$F$2:$F$34" contains my list of names and the formula returns how many occurences there are in each cell.
What i'd like to do know is work in a date criteria. Each name has an associated relevant date attached to it as does each cell that I am looking for these names in.
So...in english what Id like to do is alter my formula so that when it finds a text string that exists in "References!$F$2:$F$34", it then compares the associated date in "References!$G$2:$G$34" with the date associated with N3 which happens to be O3.
SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF(N3,"*"&References!$F$2:$F$34&"*"))

I want to get students positions in a class like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. There can be two 1st position and 2 2nd positions at a time .
1.In G Column I put logic for Fail and Obtained Marks.
G2=IF(COUNTIF(B2:F2,">=60")=5,SUM(B2:F2),"Fail")
2. Then i made array formula in column H to get the position
={SUMPRODUCT((IF(ISNUMBER($G$2:$G$7),$G$2:$G$7,0)>N(G2))/COUNTIF(G$2:G$7,G$2:G$7&""))+1}
Some improvement to write fail & position
={IF(COUNTIF(B3:F3,">=60")5,"Fail",SUMPRODUCT((IF(ISNUMBER($G$2:$G$7),$G$2:$G$7,0)>N(G3))/COUNTIF(G$2:G$7,G$2:G$7&""))+1)}
And more work to get total marks & position and Fail at the same time......
={IF(COUNTIF(B2:F2,">=60")5,"Fail",SUM(B2:F2)&"-"&SUMPRODUCT((IF(ISNUMBER($G$2:$G$7),$G$2:$G$7,0)>N(G2))/COUNTIF(G$2:G$7,G$2:G$7&""))+1)}
Now I wounder that is there a way to do all calculations in column H without using column G
By replacing (if there is any method) G2, G3, G4 etc. with Sum(B2:F2); Sum(B3:F3);Sum(B4:F4) etc. in below formula
={SUMPRODUCT((IF(ISNUMBER($G$2:$G$7),$G$2:$G$7,0)>N(G2))/COUNTIF(G$2:G$7,G$2:G$7&""))+1}.....................
