Keeping The Same Cell When Switching Worksheets

I would like my cursor to stay in the same cell when I switch worksheets. If I'm in B40 on worksheet one, and switch to worksheet two I would like the cursor to be in B40.

I'm using very basic excel functions with no scripting at the moment.

Excel 2010 :: Switching Sheets While Keeping Cell The Same

I am using microsoft excel 2010. I currently have workbooks for various things with 46 worksheets in each one (each worksheet is a store). I usually go into the worksheets daily and dump numbers into each sheet. I was wondering if there was a way to switch worksheets but keep the cell the same when i switch to a different sheet to make it much easier to dump the numbers in.

For example: Say in worksheet1 i am in cell A34 to dump in a number. When i switch to worksheet2 i want to be in the same cell to dump the next number for the next store and so on and so forth for the next 44 sheets.

Copy And Paste Macro W/o Switching Worksheets

I'm writing some macros in excel in an effort to transfer over from Lotus 1-2-3 but have hit a major roadbump. The macro is fairly complex and takes a while to run and I'm trying to cut down on the Run Time. As of right now lotus does it about 6x faster. I think a big roadblock here is that in the macro I built in excel when copying and pasting values into another worksheet, the coding has to

1)select the cell to copy
2)switch worksheets
3)select the cell to copy to
4)paste or paste special into that cell
5)switch back to first worksheet
Etc...

for every single value I want to copy over. With lotus it was possible to just copy values to an defined name in another worksheet without leaving the current one. This would greatly decrease runtimes and I was wondering if anyone knew how to code for this.

Keeping Only Selected Rows Over Multiple Worksheets

I have an excel file with over 20 worksheets and each of them have around 1200 rows. The first column in each worksheet contains the variable names and then the data associated to it is present horizontally.

I only want to keep around 80 rows from those 1200 rows. They are not in sequence (means they are not in continuous order) so I manually selected those rows by deleting the non required rows step by step.

I did it manually on 2 worksheets but I don't want to do that manually over 20 worksheets. Is there any method that can speedup the whole process.

Splitting Large Table Into Separate Worksheets Keeping Format Same

I have 2 large XLS sheets that need to be split into seperate sheets.

The first is only 5 columns wide but the amount of rows changes day to day.

The second is a maximum of 7 columns wide and again the amount of rows will change.

I'm hoping for a VBA code to be able to do both on seperate books.

The A Column has the name of the company, and this can include (/,&) that will need to be removed, the names can also exceed 31 characters.
I would like to seperate the sheets by the company name and have the name appear as the sheet name.

Also the formatting from the master sheet to be copied to the resulting sheets, with a header row.

I have included the data for the larger of the two workbooks. data.jpg I have to pull the smaller report each day and the larger report each week.

I have a series of formulas in Row 1 across the columns in worksheet A. I would like to copy these formulas to a single column and down rows in worksheet B while retaining the references to worksheet A. I know that I can manually enter the references in worksheet B but that would take a long time to do.

Macro For Switching Sheets When Cell Value Greater Than 0

I have three spreadsheets

I need to have an automatic macro where if the Cell Value in SPREADSHEET 2
for example Cell J5 is greater than 0 (Zero is the default value in the cell).

Then the macro will open up a msgbox that says "You Are Not Eligible" in SPREADSHEET 1.

This is the code that I have placed in SPREADSHEET 2.

However it does not go to Spreadsheet 1

Always Keeping Character In Cell?

I'm using the hidden-row trick to auto-fill cells beneath the hidden rows.

For this to work, every cell that is to be auto-filled in must have a character in every cell above it.

How can I make sure that my unfilled cells always have a character in them? If a user deletes the contents of the cell, I want a single character to stay in the cell (I want a backslash). This way, there will always be either a backslash, or the user-filled data in the cell. It can never be empty.

Hyperlinks - Keeping Link With Data Not With Cell

I have a spreadsheet that I have various formulas and sheets. To simplify:

Sheet 1: Columns A & B have Name and Code Number. I can add additional names and code numbers to these two columns whenever necessary.

Example:

Tom 874
John 385
David 712

Hidden in adjoining columns are formulas to automatically sort them via Code Number. Next to that are the columns showing the sorted information, sorted by number.

John 385
David 712
Tom 874

Additionally, I have a seperate sheet for Tom, John & David. Since I put Tom in first, he's Sheet 2. John is Sheet 3, and David is Sheet 4. I can use hyperlinks so when I click on John, it goes to Sheet 3; David Sheet 4; Tom Sheet 2.

Now, let's say I add Kevin 192 to the next row. The hidden columns are set up so that it'll automatically resort Kevin to the top, with John, David & Tom in the next rows down.

The issue I have with the hyperlink is that it's cell specific, not content specific, as far as I know. I would like the hyperlink to move with John's info so that it would still go to Sheet 3. Same with David and Tom. Unfortunately, after the resort, If I clicked on Kevin's name (which is now at the top of the list), it would go to John's sheet, since the hyperlink is attached to that cell.

How to allow a hyperlink to remain with the content, versus the cell? I would prefer it to be not a macro, but I'll take a macro over nothing!

Is it possible to have numbers added to the same cell and have excel continue to calculate the addition for me in that same cell......ex: I have the number 8 in cell d2 and I want to add the number 8 to that cell and have excel add the 8 to the previous 8 for a total of 16 in the same cell.....the next time I would add 5, and the total would be 21? Can this be done in a single cell?

Keeping Cell Formatting When Copying Data

I have a piece of code that runs through various excel files and takes the data (minus the header) and pastes that into a separate workbook. The piece of code that does the actual copying i think is this (i have used code from the msdn website)

I have tried replacing the sourceRange.Value with sourceRange.Text however when i do that it will copy nothing any more.

I need to copy a bunch of cells that contain formulas without altering the cell references. I know I could change each formula to contain absolute cell references, then copy and paste special with formulas, but this is alot of work, and following that I'd need to change the references back again from absolute to relative in both locations. So, is there a way to quickly copy and paste formulas in multiple cells without altering the cell references?

I'm trying to create a VBA macro that will allow me to copy a formula from one sheet to another whilst keeping all the original references.

E.g.

If the formula on Sheet1 is:

= sum(A1:B6)

then the copied formula on Sheet2 would read

=sum(Sheet1!A1:Sheet1!B6)

You can do this by cuting the cell, but I don't want to do this, I want to leave the original cell unchanged.

I'm sure there is some simple VBA code to do this, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Working for a dutch company and using a lot of excel and access it is sometimes a pain that when you are looking for functions. for example "left(b3;3)" in dutch is "links(b3;3)" now this is an easy one but some are hard to guess.

I wrote some neat code which condionally formats cell's in an Excel range and dependend on a value in column "Q" (= status) then sets the color of the field. it works fine

However when working with an english version of Excel I need to use "left" instead of "links"

how to check the local settings for Excel?

I am trying to figure out commissions with 3 different commission structures depending on type of product. So on C2 I have a drop down box with the 3 types of products. So what I would like to do is when C2 shows say "New" I want it to calculate using one formula. When "used" is selected, I want to use a different formula. And when "scratch_dent" is used, I want it to use a 3rd formula.

From a workbook, I need to open a further workbook called 'transfer' and then switch back to the original workbook. Presumably I need to save the current workbook name to a variable, open transfer with Workbooks.Open Filename:="c:debworkTRANSFER.xls"

Prevent Tab Switching

I made up a small subprocedure that searches through a large list of zipcodes (These zipcodes are in a separate sheet). Whenever I execute my subprocedure in another sheet, it jumps to the zipcode sheet and then goes back to where I originally executed the subprocedure.

Is there any way that I can prevent the sheets from switching back and forth?

US/UK Date Switching

I want the people filling in the form to put the date into a box. I did have a calendar box but this wouldn't work on a lot of PCs , so I've switched it for three combo boxes, Day-Month-Year.

I've got the 'Add' button to put it all together - DayBox.Value & "/" & MonthBox.Value etc

This seemed to work fine and excel processes this as a date. It automatically switches to the US date format (MM/DD/YYYY) which would be fine as users don't see it and I know it's at least consistent.

But it's not.

1st August 2009 = 08/01/2009 (ie MM/DD/YYYY)
13th August 2009 = 13/08/2009 (ie DD/MM/YYYY)

And while I can format cell to show me the month name in the first example, the 13/08/2009 refuses to change format even though it's recognised as a date.

I'm trying to write a piece of VBA code which will switch back and forth between 2 workbooks, but I was hoping that I would not have to name both workbooks in my code.

So far I have been able to name the second file as a variable, open it and copy the data I need, but I now need to switch back to the original file. Is there any way of doing this without hard coding the file name?

I'm having a problem with how excel opens my files. Up until yesterday when I would open any of my spreadsheets they would open seperately. I would have multiple files open across my taskbar and could easily switch between files with a simple Alt-tab windows function.

Now when I open multiple excel files it opens them under "one" file so to speak. The only way to switch between files is if I go to Window>then select the file I want or minimize within excel so I can see the other spreadsheets.

I have a macro that launches another program (Windows Title - Storm). I then use sendkeys to have it export the file to an excel file. (This launches another instance of excel.) I want to be able to focus back to (Storm) so I can sendkeys to close the program down. I can get it to the end result using sendkeys, but I am trying to have it switch back to the Storm application so the user does not need to close it manually.

I have 3 workbooks open, the main WB has my command button + code in it, and the other 2 were opened up using the existing code in my main workbook.

Using general code e.g( Thisworkbook, activeworkbook, workbooks(1)), how can I activate one out of the 3?

I know the main workbook can be accessed using "thisworkbook", but when I activate it, I can't activate one of the others in my next line of code using activeworkbook.activate, or workbooks(1).activate.
