I have a 2010 excel sheet containing 14 columns and 45082 rows in total. I am quite illiterate when it comes to writing macros but I know that what I need can be achieved with a set of codes.
To be more clear, I inserted two tables below. The first one represents the current data structure, and the second one is the way I want my data to look like.
Current data structure looks like

I know you can take a number from one cell and combine it with number from another cell and make it one number. What I need to do is the reverse. Take a two digit number in a cell and separate it into single digits in two cells. If you have the number 50 in a cell, then is there a formula that will take the 5 and put it in cell and take the 0 and put it in the cell beside it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have data in cells A1:Z1. The data is all 1 digit numbers, but sometimes they have asterisks behind the number. For instance in cell A1, I have 4, but in B1 I have 3**. I want to take the first digit of each cell and add it together and the result to be in AA1. The only thing I can think of doing is =SUM(LEFT(A1), LEFT(B1)...) but that's going to take too long (especially as I add columns).

All variables in the calculation are positive integers.
We take each integer of the pro number and multiply it by a value and sum them to get a total.
An Example: 8 Digit Pro Number: 66988757
Pro Number: 6 6 9 8 8 7 5 7
Position in the Pro Number: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Multiply each digit in the pro number by (10-position) in the number, to achieve a sum.
Using our example pro again:
6*(10-1) + 6*(10-2) + 9*(10-3) + 8*(10-4) + 8*(10-5) + 7*(10-6) + 5*(10-7) + 7*(10-8)
6*9 + 6*8 + 9*7 + 8*6 + 8*5 + 7*4 + 5*3 + 7*2
54+ 48+ 63+48+40+28+15+14 = 310
Take the Sum of the previous calculation and divide it by 11
310/11 = 28
(Actually, it's 28.181818, but since we're working with integers, we truncate everything behind the decimal).
Figure a remainder by multiplying the quotient by 11 and subtracting from the sum.
Remainder = 310 - (28*11) ---> Remainder = 310 - 308 ----> Remainder = 2
Check Digit = 11- Remainder
Check Digit = 11 - 2 ---> Check Digit = 9
Note: if the check digit is 10 or 11, need to subtract 10 from the Check Digit.
I have Put 15 Digit Number 234567890123456 in Cell A1. I am trying to get each Digit Seperately into Single Cell from B1 to P1.

I have a spreadsheet with a row for a company name, their offer price underneath that, and a 1,2, or 3 underneath that. In a seperate tab I have the offer prices in order of rank with the company name next to the corresponding price using the Index function. I also need to be able to color code the background of the offer price based upon the 1,2 or 3 associated with each name. I am new to the Index stuff so I need some help putting this one together.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am compiling a database of tennis stats for various players. I input the set scores (like 6-4) and I then need excel to find "-", go to the left and right, and add up all cells containing these scores on a full row.
For example:
6-4, 6-4, 6-4 would become 18-12
I can do this by using "find" and left/right. The problem is, the more records I add, the more I have to keep changing the formula.

I've got a long list of account numbers of varying length and ultimately need to add a dash and a dot into these numbers. Here's an example
12345678 to> 1-2345.678
123456789 to> 12-3456.789
1234567890 to> 123-4567.890
The standard format is always 3 numbers after the . and 4 numbers between the - and .
I can get to this by doing a series of functions starting with this:
=LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-3)&"."&RIGHT(A1,3) to get 12345.678 or 123456.789
copy/pasting that value into another field and then doing this
=LEFT(E1,LEN(E1)-8)&"-"&RIGHT(E1,8) to get the results above
I can't quite figure out the format to combine the multiple steps/functions into one so that I'm not copy/pasting values and re-doing the function.
I'm trying to go down column a, look for a certain word, let's say 'excel', then return the value in the cell four cells to the right.
My best guest was
=offset(search("excel",a:a),0,4)
But the search function and the find function really aren't built for that.

how to set up a formula that would count the number of numbers in a column, only if the cells before those cells are blank. In plain English: total the number of occurences in each column, provided the value in cellrow is the first occurence in that row starting at column A. E.G

Count would return under Column A, 1; under Column B, 1; (because row John has a value in AJohn it is ignored), under Column C, 2; under Column D, 0.
I am trying to count the # of empty cells to the left. I trying to work out how many days since an employee has missed. In this worksheet, a letter is placed in the cell corresponding to the day they missed. And I need to count backwards from a date (say: July 31st) to the last day with a letter in it.

Here's a weird one: I can't get some of my cells to align to center/left/right. Both the buttons on the toolbar and Format->Cells->Alignment won't work. The kicker is that other cells on the same sheet will center/left/right just fine. Is there some kind of formatting protection I inadvertently set?
fyi, Excel 2003 on XP Pro, all fully updated.
In my column B, I have different words like Balance, Notes, Expense, etc. Is there anyway I can look into column B, and if I get the word Expense, then take the number directly to the right of it (from column C) and SUM it? Not sure if it matters, but let's say I want to put it in cell C2. I figure this will allow me to do this like insert, delete rows in the future, but my equation in cell C2 will still add up what I need.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do is check each Row and move the last 3 Columns of data in each Row to the left so they fall under the headings NHA2, NHA1, and OEM PN (Columns U, V, and W). Columns A and B are temporary. Column A utilizes the formula "= COUNTA(B2:AG2)" to count the number of cells in the row that contain data. Column B utilizes the formula "=COUNTA(C:C)" to count the total rows of data in the active worksheet. Columns A and B will be deleted at the end of the Macro.
The GOAL (END RESULT) is for Columns A through W (and ONLY these Columns) to contain data (keeping in mind that Columns A and B will be deleted at the end). If some rows have Column W (and beyond) blank, then I want to MOVE data from Columns U & V over to V & W and then COPY data from Column T into the [currently] blank Column U.
I've been trying to get the Macro to start in the last row and, using CASE Statements, delete the proper range of cells and SHIFT LEFT as it counts backwards towards the first row. I'm not too sure this is the best approach and could really use some advice from the experts! I can provide a "test" file if necessary ... the test file I've been working with is approximately 6.5MB, but I can delete most of the 14,287 rows and still give a good representation of how the data varies.

I am having trouble filling a formulae series to the left on one spreadsheet, the fomulae being references to another sheet.
For example, I have two sheets 'Mtce Options' and 'Base Case'. In 'Mtce Options' I have the following formulae

1='Base Case'!A15='Base Case'!D15='Base Case'!G15
I want to fill to the left, incrementing the column references by a factor of 2 each time, eg. next two should be ='Base Case'!J15 and ='Base Case'!M15.
However, if I autofill to the left by highlighting A1, B1 and C1 or just B1 and C1 all I get is an inappropriate reference such as ='Base Case'!D15 or ='Base Case'!F15, respectively, in D15.
I have a column of 6 digit numbers in excel, and I need to remove the last digit from each number, turning it into a 5 digit number. No rounding, just simply remove the last digit. Each number is different. Does anyone know how to quickly and efficiently remove the last digit from each number? I can convert to alphanumeric string if need be...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI need a macro where I can highlight a column and change all of the 2 digit years to a 4 digit year (actually, some of the 2 digit years are only 1 digit, e.g. "9" instead of "09").
I have an if then statement that I can use in the column after it, but I'd rather change the actual numbers in the original column, rather than adding another column (and having to keep the original, too).
The statement I had was:
=if(A1>=50,1900+A1,2000+A1)
I just copy dragged down to get the cell numbers for the rest of the column... but using A1 was just for an example, here, it's not necessarily going to be in that column. It needs to be just whichever cells I select.
It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I don't know how to word it in a macro.

I am trying to find a method for deleting empty cells in a range and shift cells left upon deletion automatically. I could do this manually, but with 3000 rows of data it could be a long task. I have attched a small spreadsheet to show what I am looking for.

Now when I go some ware else in the work unselecting that cell the number went to font 10 and droped to the left bottom of the cell. When I select the cell again and select the the left middle and right to move the number it does not responed. It happens everyware in the worksheet.

but this just enters the formula "SUM(xlLeft)".

I'll attach a copy of the work in progress, also there will be a macro in here which Everytime the user presses update, it copies a range of cells and formatting and pastes it to the next available cell on the right. I've also drawn the movement of the cells i'd like The reason being, is that its going to give day to day, up to date figures from a datasheet.
The problem i have is that when i come to populate the grid which has been copied, i need a calculations to populate each cell in the Less<1week column, then when it gets to the bottom, move Back to the top, and accross to the right 1, and then populate down again, and so on until the end of the grid in question, i dont think i can use a for/next loop becuase it will be a different column address everytime. I dont really like loops, but i feel this needs it.
