Saving To A Network Drive Macro...

View 8 RepliesWe have a form that is completed by our employees and emailed to a central group email address that up to 8 employees within our team can access. When one of our 8 team members open the file sent they need to add comments to it and then save it in a central directory on one of our network drives.
Now the problem I have is that we all have the network drive mapped to a different letter.
Is there a way that I can have a macro (see below for current macro that does not work) save to a network path and not a drive letter.
I am currently creating a simple macro to save out files to a specific folder on one of our network drives. Since we will be doing this often I would like to amend the date the the file name saved for sorting/organizational purposes.
Unfortunately I have been running into a few issues, this is what I have tried so far but keep getting a SaveAs error:
Code:
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="vosinsharedClient Implementation TeamDC Tools" &
"Copy DC Conversion WB_2014 " & Format(Date, "yyyymmdd") & ".xlsx", FileFormat:=xlNormal
I have also tried:
Code:
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="vosinsharedClient Implementation Team
DC ToolsCopy DC Conversion WB.2014_" & _
Format(Now(), "YYYYMMDDhhmmss") & ".xlsx", FileFormat:=56
But still no avail. I believe it may have something to do with the file format but I am not sure. I am running Excel 2010.
I have a macro that works just find on my local machine. but it need to run from a network drive as several different people may need to access it.
A brief description of the macro.
The macro looks in an directory called unprocessed for any file named "*.csv" if the files are found it opens the file in excel and then copies data from that workbook to my workbook. after this the .csv file is closed (unchanged) and then it is moved to the processed directory.
Sub files()
Dim directory As String, filename As String, sheet As Worksheet, i As Integer, j As Integer
Dim filetype As String
Application.ScreenUpdating = False

If you don't know what the drive letter will be, because on other people's computer it could be different than what you have.
I only have the folder address
\ROGERSDAILYREPORTSXLSDM
I am using the OnTime method to automatically send out a spreadsheet by email at a certain time. I am using Windows task scheduler to start up excel and OnTime to execute the email. I have got this to work on my local drive however I need to save the spreadsheet on a network drive. Task scheduler opens this up still, however OnTime doesn't seem to be working as I have tested it and the email doesn't get sent.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want a simple VBA code that when run will check if a particular spreadsheet that exists on a Network Drive is already open or not by another user. Imagine there are 3 users A, B & C
The network path for example is : S:Department1TeamAConsolidated Report"
The spreadheet name is : Consolidated Database.xls
If the spreadheet that is on S:Department1TeamAConsolidated ReportConsolidated Database.xls is already open by User A then User B should get a message that "File is already open"
I have the below code which I got from a website which I kind of tweaked but it doesnt work.
Dim WbookCheck As Workbook
On Error Resume Next
Set WbookCheck = Workbooks("Consolidated Database.xls ")[code]......
information about users selecting a folder at this link. However, how do I change the starting point to a network drive, as opposed to "My Computer"?
For example, we reference our network drives like this:
\OurSite.comSharedFoldersDivisionName
I am having trouble creating a hyperlink to a place in the current document for a file stored on a network drive. My workbook has a lot of sheets (50 or so), so I created a 'Navigation' sheet that contains hyperlinks to all the worksheets located therein, and pasted a link back to the Navigation sheet in cell A1 on every tab.
Setting up these Navigation sheets has never a problem until I started posting the file on a network drive. As soon as I did that, I noticed that the internal hyperlinks on all sheets in the workbook would stop working after I closed the file in Excel. Note that this network drive is not set as a drive letter on my computer, and is only accessible by entering the server ip address in Windows Explorer.
An example address the hyper is trying (and failing) to open is: "file:///\ IP ADDRESS sub-folders activefile.xlsm"
I've tried a few options, using the HYPERLINK formula, using the HYPERLINK feature in the Insert ribbon, etc, but all to no avail.
I currently have a password secured excel file on my departs Q drive, which everyone can access unfortunately only 1 person can edit at a time. I tried to turn it into a workbook so we could all edit it at the same time but now some of the other users can't access the file at our other buildings throughout the county. This is for excel 2010. And I did select the share workbook, and allow multiple users to edit box. everything else is unchanged.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy set up win xp pro office 2007. Object is to save the text from a given cell to drive C naming the file with the value in another cell. E.g.
Contents of cell ("AA5") is a string and the content of ("D5") is a number
I have tried altering the code posted which i found on the forum, it works fine for the purpose as it was indented e.g. save the workbook and in my case saves it as the value in cell D5.
I guess I need to use some form of object to pass to the save as method but my knowledge of this is somewhat limited in addition as the is a possibility of either the cell being empty and the file name existing on the C drive, I need to disable the windows warnings and just go ahead and save it over writing what is on the C drive is of no importance as it will be the same data anyway, I can wrap the save in a "if Len ( AA5)= 0" to stop it trying to save if the cell if empty it the save the text string i am having problems with:
Option Explicit
Sub SaveAsExample()
Dim FName As String
Dim FPath As String
FPath = "C:"
FName = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").Text
ThisWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=FPath & "" & FName
End Sub
When saving excel workbooks in our shared drive, a second copy of the workbook (with an unusual name) is being saved in addition to the original copy. Why would this happen?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am currently having a slightly annoying issue that only happens 50% of the time, that when trying to re-save a excel sheet on a network location. The network location is a folder on another computer. The same happens when I try and save it as a pdf, but only happens half of the time.
The message which pops up says something along the line of 'Saving as: 'File-ServerDocumentsexcelsheetexample.xls' ' and a sort of green loading bar appears. It does this for about 15 seconds then goes off.
I've checked our anti virus (which is eset) and I've set it to not real time scan network locations.
I have attached a example of the saving message: ExcelWarningExample.jpg
I have the macro that is supposed to save to the next empty row to a closed workbook in a shared network drive. But I am getting an error saying that Excel cannot open the workbook.
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton5_Click()
Workbooks.Open Filename:="phgbsorgad03.ph.gbsorg.netmembersmigsCall_Form_Dbase.xlsm"
Sheets("Database").Activate
Application.ScreenUpdating = False

I need to code an option to overcome the fact that 1 workstation sees all drive letters differently.
I have many macro functions that may refer to "P:My documentsTrucks 2008filename"
However this workstation sees that drive as "T:Trucks 2008filename" and the macro will either not function or cannot find the location to save a copy of action in question.
Can I code an option that will "If filepath not found" ie "P:" go to "T:" etc
I want to write a macro that would go to a certain drive and search for a file?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadsheet that imports data, manipulates it then deletes 2 of the sheets then saves the file under a different name to the network. Is there any way to save this new worksheet without it storing the macros - so when the user open it, only the data is there and they get no prompt to enable macros?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wrote a macro that runs perfect when started from my pc, but if started from a different ps which is logged into the same network it doesn't run, also the macro is stored on the server. I have a code in the private section of the workbook:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Call FINAL
End Sub
then the macro 'FINAL' is stored in the 'Modules' section and starts with:
Sub FINAL()
'this part opens the Edit/Links dialog from which the user has to choose the relevant model
Dim Which_financial_model_contains_the_data As String
ActiveWorkbook.ChangeLink Name:= _
"T:DEALSSSalsa (Project)Financial modelsProject Salsa Model - BASED ON SPONSOR CASE - b - 20061214.xls" _
, NewName:= _
"Which_financial_model_contains_the_data" _
, Type:=xlExcelLinks
I would like to include code to move or copy various csv files from one computer across a network to other computers.
To date the best I have come up with is a method of running a batch file that executes the action.
Sub moveTKRS()
Call Shell("C:MoveTKRS.bat", vbNormalFocus)
End Sub
I would rather a more direct code that does not require a batch file.
In my macro I need to open to paths. the 1st path I I have working. Here is the
Dim OpenA As Workbook, OpenB As Workbook
Dim TheFile As String
Dim TheFile2 As String
ChDrive "H:"
ChDir "H:Treasury Project"
TheFile = Application. GetOpenFilename("Excel Files (*.xls), *.xls", , "Select the file and choose open.")
If TheFile = "False" Then
Exit Sub
End If ...............
The "????" are where I don't know what to do. I used a test path to make sure all code works and it does, but the real path is a network location. When I go to it manually with excel this is where it shows me to have gone: My Net Work Places, Entire Network, Microsoft Windows Network, Company2, datawhse, root, LAW81, Lawson, Print, Name. If I open a file and do =cell("filename") it gives me \datawhse
ootLAW81LAWSONprintNameanrvwfins111thSSFRPMOEDTL.csv. Is it possible to get excel to open me up to ...\datawhse ootLAW81LAWSONprintName.
I am an extreme novice to using macros.
I used the 'record macro' feature to create the following: I created a rectangle box on sheet1 of NEW TEST.xlsm to link to the macros incidated below. Niether macro moves on after reaching the Workbooks.Open statement.
I am at a loss. Is there something in Excel that needs to be set? Is there something else that I need to do version of Excel is 14.0.6129.5000 (32 bit) MS Office Professional Plus 2010
What I am trying to accomplish is this: From 'NEW TEST.xlsm', open an excel file on the network, add a new sheet to this network file, calling it 'Pivot'. Then create a pivot table in this new sheet from the data in sheet data1 of this same network file. Then move control of macro / processing back to the NEW TEST file. Eventually I will do more, but for starters, I cannot even get the macro to add / name a new sheet in the network file.
[SIZE=3][COLOR=#000000][FONT=Arial]PS I have attached the NEW TEST.xlsm fikle as we as the data file. NOTE: the data file has been reduced to one day's worth of data, to to the upload file size.Also, my Excel Trustred locations has "Allow trusted locations on my network" checked, and the network location to the data file in trusted user locations.
VB:
Sub Open_Add_Sheet()
Dim filename, filelocation As String
Dim wb As Workbook
filename = "11 Nov, 2013 GDO AHS Agent Productivity Report.xls"
filelocation = "R:acharukAHS ReportsGDOGDO CSR ACTIVITY Report2013" & filename
Set wb = Workbooks.Open(filelocation) '
' Open_Add_Sheet Macro

How do I save the spreadsheet with the current name of the spreadsheet in a macro?
Example:
I want to save the spreadsheet to a network drive using the current name of the spreadsheet (it changes every other day). But I dont know to put the name in the SAVE statement. Here is what I have now:
Prevent saving and allow only through Macro
I am contracting an excel template and need to stop users saving the file using “Save” or “Save As”. I am able to do this by using the private sub below:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
Me.Saved = True
End Sub
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
Cancel = True
End Sub
I also understand that by switching to “Designer” mode you can save the file and once re opened designer mode will be switched off. What I need is to allow saving using a macro, is there a code that I can insert in the macro to switch designer mode?
I Want A Code That Will Save My Workbook To A Specific File (different Form The One It Is Currently In) Using The Name That I Have Typed In Cell D13 In The Workbook
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have this analyze that is runned by a macro in one workbook, and it starts a analyzing-process in another workbook. The data is picked up in the no2 book, and returned to the first book. It is analyzing lots of workbooks, sometimes up to 1000 workbooks, it means that no2 workbook gets a new name and then saved.
I have once heard that the process could be way faster if the workbooks where the analyzes is processed through not were saved, and I actually dont need the books as long as I got the data into my first workbook.
But Im not sure what in the macro that makes it save the no2 workbook, but I would really like to speed up this process. As it is now I have to start the analyze before I go to bed, and the hopefully it's done when I wake up next morning.
i have a worksheet named for example 'allocation 1' this is a master document and is opened and modified and 'saved as' under a customer name. This then stops a few important macros working properly because they refer to the original title and not the new saved title. Is there any code that will let the macro recognise any new title it is saved under?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThanks for all the help so far with this issue. I seem to be getting errors after running a macro a second time. The name of the cell range is changing. I have attached the spreadsheet and I will try to be specific as possible.
Goal 1: I need to input monthly data into the Sales tab and then save it as a CSV file.
Goal 2: Re-open original xls file that has data then Run macro to create reports.
Goal 3: Save Original xls file as a clean sheet to use again next month.
Process:
1 - Insert Data into Sales tab
2 - File/Save As a CSV (Now the CSV file is open)
3 - Close CSV file and re-open the original xls file
4 - Run Macro to create reports
5 - Print Reports
6 - Manually delete current data on all tabs so I have a clean sheet for next month
7 - Save and Close
Problem:
When I open the xls file (next month) to input new data and run the reports I get a Run Time Error '1004" The Pivot Table field Name is Not Valid
I found that the Named Range of cells changed from the original:

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing excel 2003, I have a ss that uses filters and sorting. I can get to the data I want but must reopen the workbook if I want to start over and extract different information. I tried installing this VBA:
Sub CloseMe()
Application.OnTime Now + TimeValue("00:00:10"), "OpenMe"
ThisWorkbook.Close False
End Sub
Sub OpenMe()
MsgBox "I'm Back!"
End Sub
This is my first time at inserting VBA. Usually I just use keystroke macros. I have set my Excel VB Book options to: Option Explicit double clicked the sheet I was using and under general inserted the code, closed Ctrl+Q, saved workbook. When I reopened and tried to use it all I get is “I'm Back!” nothing else happens. One time it actually ran and reopened but it appeared that the workbook was saved before closing because it was still sorted. What I need is it to completely unsorted as it is when I first open it so I can start over.
I have a macro that saves the workbook after it has finsihed the rest of its formatting. I am finding it is saving in the wrong folder. I looked at my code and it is clearly states 'my documents' where I want it to save. Yet it keeps saving on a random folder on a shared drive.
