Match Formula Returning Wrong Row Number
Nov 1, 2006
I have a spreadsheet, with a Match Formula, that appears not to work. It looks at cell F1, and scans through cell C2:C14, and want it to return the relevant row in Column B (My work network will not allow me to upload the file). Cell F1 is the name of the sheets within the workbook (one for every month). However my data currently only has Apr - Jun, but when I choose month May, the formula feturns Month June.

I am trying to determine if I can write a formula that will read text in one cell, such as insurance and if true enter the amount from another cell and if false then 0. I have tried a IF statement by add the text to name manager. However, the answer is 0 rather than the amount in the selected cell. I might need to use a different formula or function.

I am trying to find a formula that populates a room number based on the number of hours used. I have a chart that is by building but multiple rooms within each.
Where I am having trouble is when there are more than one room with the same number of hours used then sometimes the formula populates the wrong room number.
Attached is my example spreadsheet of my chart. Book1.xlsx
I have shown what I need, what I have tried and a blank space to show where I need it to go.

I am using the formula: LOOKUP(A1,{"S","M","L","XL"},{"S","M","L","XL"}) on a cell containing: EF-2147.(S) so that it will return a S [or M, L etc. if it were .(M),.(L)] but it just keeps returning #N/A. I tried putting in "(S)" etc. in the lookup formula but it then started returning the wrong letters.

I am trying to use the Vlookup function to return State name based on the corresponding state code.
I have the list of State along with the Codes in adjacent sheet, arranged in ascending order. I am using the Vlookup function to list the State name based on the State code.
Vlookup function: Vlookup(A4,Sheet2.A2:B51,1)
This function returns me a wrong value. It gives "Arkansas" for the state code "AZ", when it should be Arkansas.
Also, if I add "FALSE" as a 4th argument, it returns "#N/A".

I'm trying to figure out an Internal Rate of Return for a spreadsheet. The answer is supposed to be: 29.42% however I'm getting 25.94%. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong in my IRR function on the Profitability worksheet? I'm currently using Excel 2007 by the way.

I have this formula that returns a grade mark for a specific score in a test:
=VLOOKUP(D4,'Grade scale'!$A$34:$B$42,2)
using these values in the lookup table:
Low scoreGrade
0.0% U
25.0% G
35.0% F
45.3% E
55.3% D
65.5% C
72.0% B
78.0% A
85.0% A*
The problem comes where the Grade is A or A* as the Vlookup table can't differentiate the two. Anyone know how to modify the formula so that A and A* are seen as distinct values?

I have two tabs (In-Transit) & (AC) column A in both sheet have a "Concatenate" that i copied and pasted and values only and also switch the format to "Text" on both tabs. I do a vlookup
[Code] ......
and it returns the results i want....But then i was thinking due to the volume of data what if the value in column A is found twice on tab "AC".. i wouldn't know with a "Vlookup".
So trying to build a Index/Match formula
[Code] ....
I also returns some good results, but i also get some back as #REF. I also get #NA and both of the formulas and those are valid no matches...

I am working on a form to pull employee identifiers such as employee ID, store number as well as sales performance. I am using the below formula but the data that is being returned is not the correct data for the specific employee. C5 is the employee name (last name, first name) in a single cell. A sample of the spreadsheet I am trying to pull data from is attached. Some employees the formula pulls the right data and some it does not...
=IF(C5="","",VLOOKUP(C5,'Raw Data'!A3:N15,2))

I have a table, let's call it Table1. Each column has the ability to filter but no filters are applied at the outset of this issue. I want to average a column labeled Column13. I also want to apply a filter to Column13 that states only show values over 50%. I apply the filter and in the cell I want the average calculated in I type the formula:
"=AVERAGE(101,Table1[Column13])"
The 101 (as far as I'm lead to believe) only applies the average to the rows *SHOWN*. However, the average I get back is 45.67%. This is obviously wrong as the filter states only show rows where the column is greater than 50%.

This is probably a pretty basic question, but I can't find an answer in Excel help or on the interwebs. I have an IF formula and I'd like 0 returned if the statement is false (e.g. =IF(A1<>0, A1, 0)); however, I would like the 0 returned as text. I've tried the TEXT function and using ` in different places, but all to no avail.

Is there a way of returning the nth factor of a number via a formula?
That is to say, if I have 10, its divisors are 1, 2, 5 and 10, and if I wanted to return the second factor, it would be 2.

Code:
=IF(MIN(Sheet1:Sheet3!B1)=0,SMALL(Sheet1:Sheet3!B1,2),MIN(Sheet1:Sheet3!B1))
The above formula returns a zero value if there is a zero in more than one of the B1 cells in the worksheet range
I need the lowest number above zero in all the B1 cells across all worksheets in range.

The return value should be 3 but I get #NA instead at the begining I was thinking that the values were different but then I compared cell =D1=N1 and the result was TRUE, meaning that they are equal

Using the text to columns option on a comma separated file in csv format leads to the right preview in the text to columns wizard.
The column titled "ATTIC: Zone ..." shows the desired format in the preview window. Please look at the screenshot 1.jpg.
After pushing the finish button to obtain the result the number format gets suddenly changed and differs from the preview.
Again check for the "ATTIC: Zone ..." column as reference: 2.jpg
Is there a menu where one can look up, or specify how to format data to force the right comma placement? What settings might be wrong?

I have the following formula: IF(SELL_INVESTMENT = "YES" , 1,2) It returns not 1 or 2 but 0. The worksheet contains over 1000 cells. Trace Precedents verifies that the formula evaluates the correct cell and that it contains "yes". I created a very simple worksheet to test the formula and here it correctly returns 1.

Not sure where to start with this one, an IF statement or vlookup? Basically I have 3 columns A, B, C (original sheet) and A, B, C in my working sheet. A contains car registrations, B contains a date and C contains a weight. I need to return C from my original sheet into my working sheet only when A and B BOTH match from my working sheet (there are scenarios where the same car registration has a different date next to it). So I want to return the weight only when the car registration and the date match in a specific instance from my working sheet.

I'm using vlookup to get a price for a unit of measure and it passes the value of the lesser not the greater. Is there anyway to get vlookup to pick the closest match as the greater value not the lesser one?
For example:
1000 units costs $8,000
4000 units cost $23,000
12000 units cost $68,000
If someone wants to buy 2500 units, I'd like the vlookup to pass the price based on 4000 units, but it passes 8,000 the value on 1000 units.
Can I use vlookup to give me the result of the greater unit not the lesser?

I need a function to compare two ranges and return a match. For example
Range A: {A56, B43, C98, D44}
Range B: {A33, G89, D44, K123, OB55}
the function would return D44. Is it possible at all with functions or do I need a macro?

I am trying to find the 2nd occurrence in a range of text along 1 column and return the cell one to the left of that 2nd occurrence. I will also need to find the 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc occurences, down the column.
So far, I have a working formula to find the first occurrence and it looks like this:
=INDEX(INDIRECT(A2),MATCH("*SS*",INDEX(INDIRECT(A2),0,2),0),1)
How would I find the 2nd occurrence?
what if the formula looked like this?
how would I find it's 2nd occurrence?
{=INDEX(INDIRECT(A2),MATCH(TRUE,ISNUMBER(MATCH(INDEX(INDIRECT(A2),0,2),{"CF","LF","RF","OF"},0)),0),1)}

I can't seem to tell if my formula isn't correct in concept, or if this is a known problem with Excel 2000?
I have written a short formula that is pretty straightforward, but is giving a different result in Excel's "Formula Editor" box (when you hit the = button) than is showing in the cell itself. The Formula Editor's result is showing as "TRUE" which is what I believe is the correct value, but the cell itself is showing the "FALSE" result of a different incorrect value.
