Count Used Cells Formula. Make Reference Static

I have a problem using indirect in a counta function. Basically, I want to count the number of used cells in a range. However, there would be insertions to the rows (using the insert row) on top of the range.

my function is now =counta(indirect(" events database"!"A"&M22&":A"&M500)

However, this formula returns an error. What have I typed wrongly?

Static Formula Reference: Delete And Drag-and-drop Data To Get Rid Of Any Bogus Values

I making a template for multiple users to import data into for analysis. I want them to be able to delete and drag-and-drop data to get rid of any bogus values. However i need forumlas that reference those to NOT follow the values as there as moved. As a simple example say you have two columns, column A is a set of random numbers, column B is the number from coumn A times 2. If take the bottom half of column A and drag it up one cell, overwriting a cell, now the cell in column B next to the overwritten cell has a #REF err and ever cell below that now references a Cell in column A from the previous row. I want a formula that references a static address and will not follow the cell if it is moved.

If I use named ranges rather than specific cells references it works for the above example, however for my actual form it does not. Even though the ranges and formulas stay the same I start getting incorrect values. If there is no other way to this I will try to figure why the named ranges do not work.

Possible To Make Sheets Static?

what im creating is a live odds program for NFL football... and in my workbook I have ALL the teams as individual sheets.

The problem im having is say im looking at the calculations for Pittsburgh on the pittsburgh sheet, and my macro decides to update.

What it does is pulls me away from the pittsburgh sheet and goes through all the updates for all the teams on all the sheets. By the time its updated all the odds for all the sheets and running and highlighting with the other macros I have to click back to Pittsburgh and view again for like 20 seconds.. and away she goes again updating the sheets.

Is there any substitute for "select" in the programming where it will not select the sheet.. but just update it "behind the scenes" ?? making the page static and remaining viewable while it runs all the processes in the background??

( yep im pretty new at all this, but i have a great method for calculating games and winners each week, but probably better without looking for 20 seconds waiting, clicking back to the sheet and looking for another 20 seconds .. etc etc .)

I have the following VBA code, which works nicely -

What I want to do is Paste As Values to each of the cells in the above to convert the formula to a static value,. Is there a simple bit of code I can include in the above loop, instead of doing a Selection.Copy Selection.PasteValues etc over the range?

Anyway To Make Auto Fill Time Value Static

I have 2 cell, A1 and B1. When any data is entered into A1, B1 will display the time corresponding to when the data was entered.

I was thinking about function for B1 would be "=IF(A1="","",now()) ". It worked such that it will display the time, however the value in B1 will automatically update itself if I were to randomly input any data in any other cell too.

For example, I input "testing" in A1. B1 display "11:20PM". Ten minutes later, I input "hello" in A2. B1 now display "11:30PM".

Anyone know a way to stop B1 from updating? or only update when new data is entered into A1 only?

How To Make The Result Of A TODAY Function Static?

I have a problem with the today Function. It appears that it changes each day. But that isn't what I want! I'd like to have a funtion that puts the current Date in a field when Data is being added in the Row and then having this date static the next day. Here is what I had so far but I have no clue to make the date static:

=IF(C10>0;TODAY();IF(D10>0;TODAY();" "))

in this case it checks for information in field C10 and D10 and if there is information it will add a Date like 2006-03-22. But new day the field will change to 2006-03-23 and that is not what i want. I want it to stay the same when data is put in and the date is being presented.

Reference Sheet Names With Indirect Function To Make Formula?

Attached I have a document where I am wanting all of the individual sheet names on the Total page. Rather than having to change each formula to match the sheet name I believe there is a way to reference the sheet name column (AO) in the formula so you can drag it down to fill in the columns. I am basic with Excel and do not know how to add this indirect function into my current formulas.

Make Array Reference Cells On Another Worksheet Of Active Workbook

My company has complicated time sheets because we have several tasks that are billed differently to different people. Once a month we have to sit down and compile everything from several forms and so forth. I have created a worksheet that pulls all the numbers together so that they can simply be copied and pasted into our reports. The hope was to simply copy this worksheet into a time sheet workbook and it will pull out all of the correct numbers. Although all the time sheet workbooks are set up the same way, whenever I copy the file into another time sheet workbook the program keeps its references from the workbook it was in. Make sense? is there a formula that I can insert into an array to tell it to pull the information from the worksheet with the same name, but in the active workbook?

here is one of the equations I am working with:

{=TRANSPOSE('1st week'!A10:L48)}

so it would look something like this maybe

{=TRANSPOSE('[active workbook]1st week'!A10:L48)} but this doesn't work of course.

Make Static Date Appear When Cell Has Text Entered?

Any way where is a list of cells (b3:b113) has text entered, or specific text entered, it will enter a static cell in the corresponding "d" column.

I know of CTRL + ; but i don't really know how to get it to work as a macro, can't find a forumla that enters the static date, and i don't want to make a macro to copy + paste special the date when it happens.

So all i should have to do is entered text in column b, then it will add a time stamp, when that text was entered, it doesn't have to update.

Like all i need is this, but instead of the "now()" function, it will have another function that doesn't automatically update?

=IF(ISBLANK(E5)=FALSE,NOW(),"")

How To Make Dynamic Drop Down Based On Static Cell

I am trying to send my field reps a spreadsheet that will allow them to pick the proper location for each building. The problem I am having is that there are ~45,000 buildings, each with anywhere from 1 - 92 locations. Here is how my spreadsheet is set up.

Sheet 1
Column A has the Buildings THIS IS NOT A DROP DOWN. THIS IS A STATIC CELL PRE FILLED OUT
Column B is where I want the drop down to be available for the rep to pick the location

Sheet 2
Column A has a list of the buildings
Column B has a list of the locations

I understand that normally I would need to create a named range for each building and its locations. However, there are more Buildings than columns in Excel. I have lets say 12 months of data. I have formulas that reference the latest 6 months. When I insert a new column to input a new month, how can I make the formulas include the new months without manually updating them.

EXAMPLE:

12 months of data exist in cells B3:M3 going from B3(oldest) to M3(newest). Formulas reference latest 6 months of data in cells H3:M3. When a new month hits, I insert a column after column M.I would like the formulas to now reference cells I3:N3 which is now the newest 6 months.

I have a worksheet where everything in column A links to a different workbook. Does anyone know if there is a formula that can then look at the cell reference in column A and take the value from a set row in that same column? For example:

The cell in column A2 is set to cell Q1 in a different workbook. I need a formula in cell C2 that will then bring in the value of cell Q64 in that same workbook. Therefore always bringing in the value of row 64 for whichever column the cell in column A is et to.

Use Cells For Start & End Formula Reference

I'm using this formula (in Cells D4:D10) to tabulate hours being spent on various testing activity categories (N,O,R,E,U,A,D). Is there a method I can use to permit me to change the range of cells being tabulated using Named Ranges or some sort of substitution?

= SUMIF($C$15:$C$89,C4,OFFSET($C$15:$C$89,0,4))

for example I would like to use the value I present in cell A2 as the starting point (for the range) & B2 as the end point (for the range) of cells being evaluated. In other words the improved formula would look like this.

=SUMIF(A2:B2,C4,OFFSET(A2:B2,0,4)) -or something like that-

I have 2 sheets in a work book. In the first sheet in A27 I have a value. In the secend sheet I have a formula "=SHEET1!$A$27".

Problem is when I insert a new row in sheet 1 the formula in sheet 2 changes to "=SHEET1$A$28" and I want the formula in sheet 2 to stay the same that is, always =SHEET1!$A$27.

Column Formula That Won't Change When Move Reference Cells

I'm dealing with forecasting invoices. The main column 'BALANCE' has a formula referencing the previous cell and then adding or subtracting invoices (ENTRY). The problem I have is that I'll put values in ENTRY that I expect to come in at some point but as they arrive I need to change the order of the cells. So I'm constantly changing the order and then it changes the formula in BALANCE. I tried absolute cells (and even found a work around way to flow absolute cells by flowing then viewing formulas then using the replace function but that didn't work.

So my formula in BALANCE is:
=$I$173+$E$174-$G$174

but if I move G174 to another cell I'd like to keep the BALANCE formula to stay G174 instead of following the move.

How to make a formula with references to certain cells, so I can sort the sheet but keep the formula referring to the same cells as before the sorting?

In the example I illustrated the problem: when I sort the data, the formula refers to the same cells which have now different values, so the calculation is not right anymore.
