Pass Protection From A Master To A Slave Workbook

May 7, 2009

I have a master workbook with which I can produce slaves from but I am looking at keeping certain cells protected to stop deletion (dates etc). What I require is for the top 5 rows to be protected on each of the 4 week sheets where the dates etc are. I had played with protecting all the sheets and with unprotect then protect on the master but it did not carry over to the newly created slave, could someone point me in the right direction . SOLVED: The code is not pretty but functional.

Master And Slave Workbooks

Mar 11, 2009

I have a Master workbook that contains the complete sales for the entire business. This is based on input from 12 different departments. These 12departments have their own slave Excel workbook that they enter information into. The 13 files are all located in the same directory on a network folder.

What I want to do is to automatically gather all the entries from the 12 slave workbooks to the master workbook whenever the macro I am trying to create is run. There is no way of knowing how many new entries each workbook will contain and they have to be added so that that they don't overwrite eachother and so that they are put in sequence after the last row in the master workbook.

Now the information to be gathered is located on the first worksheet in all the three workbooks. The destination sheet in the Master workbook is also the first worksheet in the workbook. The structure of the information that I want to copy is equal on all the worksheets. How would I go about doing so?

Automatic Updating Of Master Worbook From Slave Workbooks

Sep 2, 2008

I have basically read all the posts on similar subjects and have tried for a few days to make it work but my solution is far from good enough. So now I am asking for you help.

My project: I have a Master workbook that contains the complete sales for the entire business. This is based on input from three different departments. These three departments have their own Excel workbook that they enter information into. The four files are all located in the same directory on a network folder.

What I want to do is to automatically gather all the entries from the three slave workbooks to the master workbook whenever the macro I am trying to create is run.

The structure of the information that I want to copy is equal on all the worksheets meaning that one sale is entered as a new row in the sheet. It is this row that I want to copy to the mastersheet.

What makes it a bit more complicated is that I want to extract certain information from one sheet and different information from other sheets. From one sheet i want to copy the entire row and from another sheet I just want to copy certain figures like Order Number, Customer, Price and so on. Meaning that I will have a different set of what I want to copy depending on what workbook I am copying from.

Here is what I have so far, it is not working by far and I tried to aim for something simple to start with since my vba experience is limited. So far I cannot copy anything into my Destination master file...

Workbook Protection In Macros

Oct 27, 2006

In addition to the code below that hides data if macros not enabled, prevents copy and cut (I know its still possible) I would like to as well as protect the sheets (which works fine) also protect the workbook to prevent moves etc. Unfortunately while the protection may be easily applied, the veryhidden bit to ensure macros are selected then conks out. Does anyone out there know of a way where say the workbook protection may remain and at the same time allow the veryhidden etc bits do their stuff as normal as if the workbook protection was off?

Setting Protection On Workbook To Be Read Only

Dec 7, 2012

I have a Workbook named "Master Archive" that contain data from 9 workbooks. This is all done with a macro upon opening each workbook and using a command button to send the data to it. Question is I want everyone to be able to view the Master Archive Workbook in a readonly fashion and the orginal to always remain closed. Reason being is I cant run the macro to archive the data if someone has it open, which then would cause debug issues with the code.

Are there settings were I can be the only one to open the workbook and be able to Edit.

Also Everyone has a shortcut to this Master Archive on there Desktop.

Prevent Workbook Protection In VB Code

Dec 1, 2011

I have a workbook that contains macros. When the workbook is protected, the macro returns an error so I have unprotected the workbook but, if someone protects the workbook and saves it, it returns an error when closing and even if they choose cancel, it still screws up the macro and prevents it from working upon reopen.

Is there a way to prevent someone from protecting the workbook in vb code?

Save Duplicate Of Workbook Without Protection

Nov 21, 2006

I've written some code which goes through a workbook, deletes any non-required information, and then saves it with a different name in another location. (It then re-opens the original workbook and looks for the next match and so on).

However, the workbook has read and write passwords on it, which I've put into the code to open it in the first place, but I want to save the 'new' sheets without the passwords being applied. Is there a simple piece of code that I can put in that will make the passwords null? (I'm a bit shiny and new to all this, so sorry if this has a glaringly simple solution! : D )

Workbook Protection Code: When Macros Are Not Enabled

Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Application.AskToUpdateLinks = False
Windows("rechenfile.xls").Activate
Sheets("Daten").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Koeffizient").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Investitionen").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Konsum").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Zinssatz_permanent").Visible = xlVeryHidden
Sheets("Preise").Visible = xlVeryHidden

Pass Workbook Variable Between Subs

Jul 11, 2007

This is the code after editing to make it more clear

Public Sub 1()
BookA= activeworkbook. name
BookB=Application.Workbooks.Add
Workbook(BookB).activate
End Sub

Public Sub 2()
BookB=Activeworkbook.name

With BookB. sheets(1)
.range("A1")=BookA.sheets(1).range("B1")
End Sub()

At the end of public sub 1, BookB is the active workbook. What I want to do in public sub 2 is to copy some data from BookA to BookB. Unfortunately, when moving from public sub 1 to public sub 2, BookA needs to be defined again. The code above is the code that I use in my add-ins. I figured out for non add-ins code I can define BookA with thisworkbook.name when BookB is active as I before work with BookA. This does not apply for add-ins as thisworkbook will refer to my add-ins code. Is there anyway of keeping definition of BookA is constant from one public sub to another public sub? This is simplified code. In fact, I can't merge public sub 2 with public sub 1 due to some reason which I don't say it here.

Merging XLS Workbooks Into One Master Workbook?

So I have many workbooks with 2 - 4 worksheets in them. All have formulas as well as macro's and everything is working fine just as it is. But I would like to have 1 Master workbook with all workbook/worksheets combined in to 1, so that I can stop opening so many workbooks.

Get Data From Several Workbooks In One Master Workbook

Jul 1, 2014

I wish to be able to get data from several workbooks (.xls), and gather all the data in one master workbook.

As I said, I've got a number of workbooks with data I wish to copy and merge into one master worksheet. Each workbook contains a sheet called "MILESTONES" (project) in which I want to pick up data. The data ranges from A5:J88, but I think this can be expanded by the users (more rows). There is no guarantee that the users will enter data in all the columns. Columns A and B occur frequently blank, so the users usually starts entering in information in column C (heading = description).

The Master workbook contains of exactly the same headings, except that the columns has been expanded by 1. Column A1 has the heading "Workpack" which is the name of the workbook the information has been gathered from (description is in column D1). This name can be found in a sheet called "REPORT" in all of the workbooks, and I want this to be copied over, row by row so it matches the data. I don't know if it can cause any trouble, but the names are merged through C to J in row 12 in all of the workbooks.

The workbooks (or workpacks) and the master workbook (summary) are placed in the same folder. Let's say C:Project. The workbooks also changes names frequently (each month). Lastly, if there is a way to automatically update the master workbook every time it is opened.

Using Vba To Populate Data Into A Master Workbook

Feb 16, 2014

I have spent many hours trying to research and create a code to enable me to create a master workbook with very little success

I have attached the "master workbook"!!!

I have a file C:workjobs

In this folder I have many workbooks all named differently normally with the customers name and a description of work completed ie: Mrs Jones, Bathroom refit, etc and the file is updated with new workbooks all the time as we complete new jobs

I need create a macro that automatically starts when the masterfile is opened that grabs all the information needed from all the individual workbooks and then inputs the totals into the cells in the masterworkbook so I can then analyse the information

The master workbook I have attached is exactly the same layout as the individual workbooks

Merge Workbooks To Master Workbook

Sep 24, 2013

at the moment I'm trying to consolidate four Workbooks to a Master Workbook.

The four Workbooks I want to merge have the same table structure but except the "Project Number" they have almost different data in their columns.

What I want to do is creating a Master Workbook in which all the Projects are listed once with the information of all four Lists.

While consolidating the data should be checked whether it is already in the Master Workbook or not:

If yes the Macro should copy the to adding data in the existing Project row and there in the correct column.

If not the Macro should create a new row for the Project.

Import Worksheets Into Master Workbook

Aug 14, 2008

There are 7 files on the network that everyone updates. These are contact databases for clients, insurance companies, our agents, etc. Any changes that need to be made are made. The first person to open a file will get edit mode, the others will only get read-only mode. I rarely have to edit, so if I'm first then I'll invariably be asked to exit so others can update them. I've tried doing the share workbook, but it's not working. That's not what I'd like to do anyway.

I've made a workbook with 7 different sheets, each tab named after one of the network databases. I'd like for these sheets to automatically update if/when changes are made to the master - but keep my formatting intact. Right now I'm relying on import external data, but that doesn't update. Therefore, I have to delete and re-import every morning, losing all of my formatting. Surely Excel has an easier way to do this?

The databases are highly sensitive information so I can't really attach one - but I will attach a dummy example of what they all look like. Each file is hundreds of rows and maybe 15-20 columns, so the thought of linking each cell is more than I'm looking to do.
