Paste Special To 2007 From 2003 Shows: HTML, Unicode Text & Text
Oct 10, 2007
When I copy from Excel 2003 (values & formulas) and paste special into Excel 2007 i get the option screen to select unicode text, sylk etc instead of the other screen with the option of values, formulas, formats etc.How can I select the option for value, formulas?
Sorry cannot attach a screen shot as it is above the allowed limit.
I have recently found that when I copy ranges (usually containing formulas), I only have the option of copying these ranges as text ( or vales). I can no longer copy formulas , (or formats, col width etc) in my excel worksheets.
This problem has only recently occurred and applies whether i have one or many spreadsheets open.
I have a problem in that in using the paste special on some links I created using HYPERLINK/VLOOKUP formulas the hyperlinks themselves have gone (ie nothing happens if you click on the data).
What I want is a macro that can turn a cell's contents into a hyperlink (i.e the location and friendly name are the same) by means of a simple keyboard stroke. I tried doing this using the macro recorder, but it didn't recognize when I was trying to paste the text into the Insert Hyperlink address bar and it just recalled the name of the address in the VBE window as if I'd written it in manually.
I have a workbook with many sheets in it. Within each sheet there is a cell with the Text "March 09" there are then 3 cells to the right of this cell with relevant information. Is there a Macro that can search for this text March 09, then copy this and the 3 cells to the right of it and paste special this information 1 cell below for all 4 cells.
In my excel file I have chinese and some other special characters and many cells have text with commas.
My problem starts when I try to save my file as a Text.
When I Save As with the Unicode option I can see the chinese characters in my text file but also I see a lot of quotes """ because I have commas in my xls file.
When I Save As with Tab Delimited option to solve the comma problem, the chinese characters become?
It seems that cannot be possible to do it manually cause there is no option to Save As with Unicode and Tab option together.
So I would deeply appreciate someone could give me a solution with VBA code to save my file as Text with Unicode and Tab Delimited option.
I often need to use Paste Special . .. Values, using Excel 2003. So I recorded a Macro into "Personal.xls" and assigned a shortcut key combination "CTRL-Shift-V" so that it would always be available. I first select one or more cells and hit CTRL-C to copy to clipboard, click on another cell, then hit CTRL-Shift-V to run the following macro:
It often works . . . and it often fails. When it is working it seems to keep working over and over. When it is failing it keeps failing. So it is almost as if there are two "modes" of operation, which for lack of terms, for this post I will coin the terms "fail mode" and "fixed mode". Once I am in one of the two modes, it stays there for a while. When it is in the "fail mode", I always get the dreaded:
Run-time error 1004: "Pastespecial method of Range class failed".
Since this problem is very intermittent, I believe this is why there are so many posts in the Internet about this, and so many people are replying back "it works fine for me". I have seen many solutions offered but none work so far for just a simple shortcut key to do a PasteSpecial :Values. Some solutions "work" . . . such as adding the PasteSpecial button to the Toolbar, or pressing ALT-E-S-V <Enter> - but both of these bring up the Paste Special dialog box which I want to avoid.
I spent days trying the many solutions offered but so far all I have found is a trick to convert Excel from "fail mode" to "fixed mode". The trick is to add a line to the macro to first do a "Paste Special: Format:
Then select and copy any cell/s, click on another cell, and run the macro just ONCE - it will paste the formatted value successfully and you are now in the "fixed mode". Now you can remove the PasteSpecial:Format line that you just added, to get back to the original macro with just the "Paste Special: Values" line:
Now Excel is in the "fixed mode" and the original macro will once again start working properly. BUT only for a while !! Then some time later, usually within a day or a couple hours . . . Excel goes back into that "mode" where once again the macro fails repeatedly. I have been unable to isolate what causes the mode to return to failure.
Any simple way to either change the code so that it ALWAYS is successful, why this often is not successful ? I believe that the fact that adding in the Paste Special : Format code and running it just once to fix the problem, also could be a clue as to what causes this problem to "sometimes" occur.
Copy over data from different workbooks and using paste special values to paste it into a new workbook using a macro. Here is what I have and what I am looking for:
My file path is
C:Documents and SettingsMy DocumentsProjectCostsDecember12
I also have a workbook called DecMonthlyTotal in the same folder with the same named worksheets.
I am looking for a macro to be placed in the DecMonthlyTotal that will pull the data from the Cashable12-13 worksheets from Function1, Function2 and Function3 and paste special the values into workbook DecMonthlyTotal, worksheet name Cashable12-13, it will also pull the data from the NonCashable12-13 worksheets from Function1, Function2 and Function3 and paste special the values into workbook DecMonthlyTotal, worksheet name NonCashable12-13
Both the Cashable12-13 and the NonCashable12-13 have Columns A - G The row that the macro should start the copying from is Row 3 for each of the workbooks; however I don't have an end row for the workbooks as this will vary.
Here is my dilemma: I am opening an HTML file with Excel. There are text boxes that appear in excel from the HTML file with text in them. I would like to write a macro to copy the text from each text box and paste it into a cell. I have attached the excel file with the html text boxes in question.
A1IDS09C1_PEND_COB2COPY YES SHRLEVEL CHANGE SORTKEYS SORTDEVT SYSDA3BMCSTATS YES UPDATEDB2STATS YES UNLDDN RU0014CONDEXEC YES UNLOAD RELOAD REDEFINE NO DELETEFILES YES SORTNUM 125DDTYPE WORK ACTIVE YES DDTYPE SORTWORK ACTIVE YES6DDTYPE LOCPFCPY ACTIVE YES7DSNPAT
[Code] .......
In other words, I need to copy the text in blue so that it is above the text in black and the text in red so that it is below. Then I need the macro to repeat this procedure for each cell that it finds containing text in black. I have already created and run a macro to insert blank lines between each black text entry.
I'm having a 6000+ records, (contacts DB) exported in Excel 2003 format from MS Outlook.
Except the "First" and "LastName", all other contact elements are in the field "Notes" (which is the BZ column according to the exported outlook layout) multiplied by 6469 (records in total)
Now, I want every time to take the part of the text says "TER:something..." (part of which is date, but not every time with the known format dd-mm-yyyy, as you see here is yyy, followed by something else, with parenthesis here and maybe more data) and copy it in a new cell..., e.g:CO Column, same Row...
Above and every field which by the way is formatted as General (and it is text mainly) are made by merging older excel fields where data laid here and there, that's why you see the commas...with the method of a module with the following code:
Function MyMerge(Rng As Range) For Each Cell In Rng Temp = Temp & Cell.Value & ", " Next Cell Temp = Mid(Temp, 1, Len(Temp) - 2) MyMerge = Temp End Function
Note1:Records with the above string (TER:dd-mm-yyy) are 771 from 6469. Note2: As an alternative solution I can see an extraction of the TER:dd-mm-yyy string and the copy in a new place, like the:CO Column, same Row...
Date: 17/09/2013 KO: 19:45 Ref: B Malone Att: 7,574 extraction of text from the above text string which is say in A1. What l need is for Date to go in A2, KO in B2, Ref in C2, & Att in D2. I'm using Excel 2003
I'm using Microsoft Office 2003 and have tried everything I can think of to strip the formatting from data I exported into Excel from the internet. I've tried DATA / TEXT TO COLUMNS, Formatting, LEFT, RIGHT, exporting to NotePad and back again... nothing works?
I have 85 Html files that I open in excel. The files have a bunch of columns with numbers. Excel handles most of them properly, but if the number looks like a date, it is imported as a date (which it shouldn't be). For example if the number is 13-1, excel handles it fine, but if the number is 12-1, excel thinks it is a date and imports Dec-01. How do I get excel to import it as 12-1?
I have some code that loops through a bunch of text files, finding any that contain an href, and printing that entire line (if found) into excel. These text files are source code for a website. What I need to do, is within this line being pasted, is grab only a few things from within some tags such as the info between <title>This is the title</title> the tags and print it into a colum, I do not want the entire line, just certain things that are in the line. I have supplied the code that I currently have. I have it so that 'WholeLine' contains the entire line. Can I manipulate that with something like Cells (myR, 3).Value = WholeFile(?).
Sub CheckTextFilesForHREFs() MsgBox "Press OK to begin report" Dim WholeLine As String Dim myPath As String Dim workfile As String Dim myR As Long
I am trying to find specific text throughout an excel document (2007) and replace it with the same text but in italics. I tried using the options/format function and selecting italics for the "replace" text but it replaces the entire cell text in italics instead.
I have attached my workbook, it is a pretty standard pivot accross 3 sheets but it is only showing values instead of text, how can I change this? I have tried everything.
I want to create 3 command buttons (active X) on a worksheet to toggle between showing rows which only contain the below text in column L (range L9:L30) and showing all rows containg the options (However, I also have some blank rows in this range and i always want them to remain hidden.)
My text options are:
High Medium Low
The text arrives in the cells via a VLOOKUP
Is the chinese text a problem? i can't type it into VB.
I've been using the following macro to hide and unhide rows with a command button in the same sheet:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() Toggle_Hide_Unhide End Sub
Sub Toggle_Hide_Unhide() Dim rngCell As Range Dim TakeAction As Boolean
If ActiveSheet.CommandButton1.Caption = "Hide" Then TakeAction = True ActiveSheet.CommandButton1.Caption = "UnHide" Else TakeAction = False ActiveSheet.CommandButton1.Caption = "Hide" End If
For Each rngCell In ActiveSheet.Range("I9:I30") With rngCell If .Value = 2 Then .EntireRow.Hidden = TakeAction End With Next rngCell End Sub
I need to check a website daily to see if a link has been updated. If it has been updated, the beginning of the link changes to a different date. Example: today link is www.10212009dave.com and tomorrow link may be www.10222009dave.com. Lets say the link is on www.gugg.com. The link does not change everyday, but I think a good way to see if it has been updated is to search through the source code in the html for that link.
Thus I would put www.10212009dave.com into cell A1 and tell excel to search the source code on www.gugg.com, and if the contents of cell A1 is NOT found, I'd display a message box stating the link has been updated.
I am attempting to extract a particular piece of data from a webpage. I was not able to use a webquery because the data can only be reached by searching an online database and the URL remains static throughout this process. http://gisims2.co.miami-dade.fl.us/myhome/proptext.asp
The data of interest is contained in a simple, 2-column table with item descriptions in the first column and item values in the second. The code below is my closest attempt. I am attempting to look through the innertext of all the tables on the results page and see if any contain the text "CLUC", which is the description of the data I'm trying to retrieve. The code never finds any qualifying tables.
Sub PropInfo() Dim appIE As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer Set appIE = New SHDocVw.InternetExplorer Dim varTables, varTable Dim varRows, varRow Dim varCells, varCell Dim lngRow As Long, lngColumn As Long 'OPEN INTERNET EXPLORER, GO TO WEBPAGE appIE.Visible = True appIE.navigate "http://gisims2.miamidade.gov/MyHome/proptext.asp" Do While appIE.Busy: DoEvents: Loop Do While appIE.readyState <> 4: DoEvents: Loop.........................
I need to get the string GE#### before each " class="button"> and copy it on a cell on the right. There are other links of this format [URL] ..... in the cell, but I am interested only the ones that have " class="button"> after it.
The length of the ID after GE can be 2, 3, 4 or 6 characters long. But I am ok with getting GE + 6 characters following it as that means I would get something like GE12" cl and I will delete the extra character by doing a find/replace.
I have a cell in which I have the following data (for example):
<a href="http://www.trucks.com">Ford Trucks</a>
I need to export the sheet as a tab delimited txt file for import into another program. When excel saves the file as .txt, it add extra data so that the cell is represented as:
Note the set of two additional inverted commas. This extra data interferes with the parsing of the data in the other program. I've tried formatting the cells to "general" and "text", however, it does not seem to affect the txt output.
Search the activecell for a text string (a), and then either paste in text string (b) at the end of the cell if (a) is found, or text string (c) if (a) is not found.
For example, if the activecell has "AA/" in it, I want the cell to become "AA/01" (pasting in "01" at the end), and if the cell has just "AA" in it, I want it to still become "AA/01" (pasting "/01" at the end). The macro will be linked to a commandbutton.
Getting some web page data into Excel 2010 using VBA. My scenario however is set up with the following titles in cell A1, B1, C1, D1 and E1 : POST CODE, OUTLET, ADDRESS, TELEPHONE, EMAIL
The result I want to achieve is I enter a post code into cell A2 for example, Excel then uses IE to navigate to the relevant web page as defined in the VBA code. I then want the following to happen:
The InnerText of the web page's h1 tag is then inserted into the OUTLET cell (B2)The first instance of the p tag is then inserted into the ADDRESS cell (C2)The second instance of the p tag is then inserted into the TELEPHONE cell (D2)The third instance of the p tag is then inserted into the EMAIL cell (E2)
All instances of the p tag are contained in a div element called div class="adBox_content" . There are also 5 other DIVs above that DIV in the hierarchy.
Using the YouTube tutorial link, the method has worked for me using the getElementsByTagName("h1").innerText
However, when I try adding a second getElementsByTagName("p")(01).innerText the whole thing fails.
So I'm left with two problems; I can't make the VBA get more than one element at a time from the page, I can only either have the h1 or the first instance of the p tag. I've tried all the getElementBy methods and none of them seem to work in getting the second and third instances to show.
I also need the code to make the data be put on the same row ONLY as where the post code was entered. In this scenario for example of entering a post code into A2, the OUTLET needs to land in cell B2 only, ADDRESS C3 only etc.
By following the youtube tutorial above by giving the cells names to refer to in the code, the data ends up being inputted in all further rows with identical cell names. I need it to not do that.
The code is needed for around 300 rows of post codes that will be entered and refreshed every week or so.
I've got ALOT of parentheses, 5 nested IFs, 5 ANDs, 4 ORs. The ANDs and ORs are within the IFs.
While editing the formula, I can, at times, achieve the condition where the cell references become color-coded. Or at least some of them do. But, when I get to this point, I'm usually at a spot where I can see the formula isn't right.
I'm confused. What does it mean when my text is all red when I go to edit a formula? Did I hit some limit? Again, I don't get error messages and the formula seems to work properly.
