Preventing ListBox From Showing Blank Cells
Sep 28, 2009
if it is possible to prevent a listbox from showing blank cells.
I have selected a big range and many of the cells are blank. The reason is that I want the listbox to update automatically when I add a value to any of the blank cells.
Using the methods suggested by the posters here I was able to solve my problem. I had to modify my source data somewhat but it was well worth it.

I have the following bit of code that runs and is working MOSTLY correct. The code looks at the value of the combobox, loops through a range, finds the values in the assigned range that match the value in the combobox, and then adds the items to the listbox in multiple columns.
As I said, the code is MOSTLY working correct. Everything works, okay, except that only the first records shows up.
It's counting correctly, as I also have a label that does a listcount that is displaying the correct number. The problem is, that all other 95 records (the value I am searching in the combobox I have confirmed relates to 96 records) except the first one show as blank.
Code:
Sub cmbVolumeSKUs_Change()Dim r As Range, rAll As Range
Dim sTerm As String
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
sTerm = frmL.cmbVolumeSKUs
With Sheets("Volume Pricing")
[Code]...
EDIT: After reviewing the code line by line, it looks as though each new record is actually overwriting the first row. The record count is accurate, but each record found is being overwritten by the next. How can I get by this?

On a userform, I have three textboxes, one listbox, and an OK button. When the user presses the OK button, the information in these boxes is pasted onto a worksheet. I am wondering how I can detect if any of these boxes have been accidentally left empty, so as to prevent the user from pasting an incomplete entry onto the worksheet. This is what I have so far (this is part of the routine that executes when the OK button is pressed):
If EnterGrowerTextBox.Text = "" Then
MsgBox "Please Enter the Grower Name"
Exit Sub
End If
If EnterAmountTextBox.Text = "" Then
MsgBox "Please Enter the Number of Chicks"
Exit Sub
End If
If EnterBreedTextBox.Text = "" Then
MsgBox "Please Enter the Breed"
Exit Sub
End If......................

I have made the function below to return a variant multidimensional array. I pass the function an array of folder paths that I wish to search through looking at subfolders within that path where their name matches a search string that I pass to the function. eg., it will find a folder named "Catnap" if you pass the string searching for as "Cat*".
The size of the array it builds depends on how many folders it finds that match the search string and so needs to be built dynamically. Hence, I believe it builds a 2 dimensional array horizontally and I transpose it at the end of the function. In each element I put the folder name that was found in the first dimension and the path to that folder in its second dimension.
I have a 2 column listbox on a form that I set this array to. eg., Me.ListBox1.List = DirPaths("C:","Cat*",vbDirectory,100)
This works fine and shows a list of folder items found by folder and path in the two columns of the listbox if there is greater than 1 search found. However, when the search only finds 1 then the listbox shows the folder name with the folder path in row 2 of the list box. (See below).....

I have a workbook that is going to be used as an offline 'database', recording issues being worked on and all the necessary details e.g. time logged, user, problem type, comments etc. A lot of this will include vba for automation and validation etc.
This will then be exported in comma seperated .txt format. So I don't want anyone putting a comma in a normal field within Excel. I'm sure I remember a way of blocking certain character entry a few years back when I was working on a similar problem. However, time is getting the better of me so is anyone able to help save me some time and point me in the right direction? Trying to find a suitable search string for this question is proving tricky.

I have a workbook used for scheduling purposes and you can add hours to it by typing in D+1 or D-1, etc. I want to prevent this from working and just ignore the cell if the cell contents say "DC". I've tried to adjust my formula but haven't had any luck. I've attached an example worksheet with the formula for an easier understanding.
Formula: [Code] .......

I've got a table that has to be manipulated by multiple users. Within the table I have several column ranges with validation lists (in drop down boxes) in order to limit responses. However, I'm finding that most of the users are pasting data in from other sources that may not have been in the validation list, or may be in a different format, etc., and it essentially undermines the reason for using the validation.
I've tried protecting the sheets using various options and tried looking around online for a solution, but I'm not finding how to get around this.

When i put a "0" in a currency formatted cell, the result is a blank cell. If i put any other number in there other than "0" it shows a dollar amount of that value (even .00001 works). I have also noticed that before i put a zero in that cell, i can go to the format of that cell, select currency, and i see a sample in the sample box ($0.00). But if i go to that cell, put a "0" in it and return to the format of the cell, the sample box is now blank and it doesn't even show a $ sign. I know the "0" is in the cell because i can see it in the formula bar. But on the sheet itself it does not display it.

I have three listboxes and I set each of their row sources from code in UserForm_Initialize() event like so:
With Sheet1
lbxLanguages.RowSource = . Range("C2", .Range("C2").End(xlDown)).Address
End With
When I run the form, sometimes I see data in two of the three listboxes and the third has blank/empty rows; sometimes all three listboxes have only empty rows in them (i.e. correct number of checkbox squares displayed but no data in front of the squares).

Ok so my named range looks like this:
[Code]....
However, I want to ignore the "" cells and the truly blank cells... However, I think all of them will have "" since I have this formula in all of the ones I'm putting in the range:
[Code]....
How do I go about getting these results into a named range so I can use it on validation since validation only seems to ignore truly blank cells and not the "" ones.

I have an extensive spreadsheet with several columns and all showing borders where each cell/column begins and ends. However there are a few cells where the break with the next cell does not show the line.
I have highlighed the cell in question, gone to format/cell/borders and everything looks fine. Black color + format border shows square with all sides of square showing.

I have a list box looking at range IB5:IB100 I only have about 25 names listed. However the list box opens up about 3/4 of the way down with the list of names that are not there. The user then needs to scroll up to see the names.
How can I get the list box to show only the names in the list? or at least start at the top of the list (IB5)
I have the ignore blank button checked.

On the top, you'll see that even though there is an equation in cell "K" and merged cells "O and P" that the cell is reflecting a blank box (how I want it to look). Within the same workbook, a different worksheet that has the same exact cell settings is showing "$0.00" in those cells. I can't figure out how to get it to be blank! Yes, I tried the copy/paste from the cell that I like to the other worksheet but it doesn't work. Again - all of the cell settings are the same.

I have a spreadsheet where members of my team can run filters to view stats.
On close I have a basic script to remove all filters and show all cells to keep it consistent for the next user
VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_Deactivate()ActiveSheet.ShowAllData
End Sub
However, If i open the spreadsheet and don't run a filter when I go to close it debugs as alldata is already shown.
Any work around to keep the existing code working but to not error if all data is shown?

is it possible to enter data on a spredsheet while a form is opened or must the from be closed first. I thought I was smart to have a form remain open so users could change parameters but at the same time allow them to enter data in uprotected cells.

I have sporadic cell values in a column. I will be describing the lamen logic I use to fill in these blanks manually. Find the first nonblank cell in the column, then look for the next nonblank cell in the column. I count the number of blank cells in between. If even # of blank cells, then I give the first half of the blanks the value of the first nonblank cell and the second half of the blank cells the value of the next nonblanck. If odd # of blank cells, then I do the same with the exception that the odd cell that falls in the middle will be randomly designated the value of the either first or second nonblank cell.

I can count the blank cells withiin a range using
=COUNTBLANK(C6:AD2506)
But I dont want it to count the cells if the entire row, within that cell, i.e. C6:AD6, is blank.
It should only count the blank cells within a row if there has been some data entered on that row..provided it has been entered within the specified range.

I have the following formula which works perfectly unless one of the cells has a value of zero;
=MIN(SUM(AD13),MIN(SUM(AK13)))
When AD13 = £60.00 and AK13 = £94.00 (or vice versa) the formula returns £60.00, which is correct. BUT when AK13 = £0.00 obviously the formula returns £0.00, but I would like the formula to still return £60.00.
How this can be done?

I presume this is fairly simple to do, since it's certainly easy enough to do manually by filling in a couple of rows and dragging them down, but I need it to be performed in a macro that I can run before other macros run.
What I need specifically is for the macro to go to G1 and insert the number .01... Then go to G2 and insert .02... Then G3 and insert .03... And repeat this until it finds the first non-blank cell ( row number this occurs at varies), at which point it ends and does nothing to that populated cell or any other cell in the column thereafter (including other blanks farther down).
This all needs to be done in Arial, 10pt, white.

Here's what I'm attempting to do: For each column, X,Y, Z, I am attempting
to count nonblanks. However, the data was imported from Access and Oracle,
and Excel treats what appear to be blank cells as nonblanks. I've tested
this theory by highlighting a couple of "blank" cells and deleting them, and
my count changes. So, can I get Excel to put a value into my "blank" cells,
so then I could filter it out, or create a formula that would only count
dates in my columns (which is what I'm after).
This is what I'm looking at:
A B C
1 2/4/2006 2/6/2006 ("blank")
2 ("blank") 12/13/2005 1/7/2006
3 2/20/2006 1/15/2006 ("blank")
In each column if I use a COUNTA I'll get a total of 3, instead of 2 for A,
3 for B and 1 for C.

I have a list that looks something like this:
Column B
Row 4 Item 1
Row 5 Item 2
Row 6
Row 7
Row 8 Item 3
Row 9
Row 10 Item 4
Row 11
Row 12
Row 13
Row 14 Item 5
The range of cells in column B containing the items has a name "ColStreams"
I need to go through the list, filling in each blank cells with the value contained in the first non-blank cell above it - so, in this case, rows 6 and 7 would contain "Item 2", row 9 would contain "Item 3", rows 11-13 would contain "Item 4" and so on.

The formula below calculates appropriately, however, if any of the cells (E12,E14, E21, E22, E28, E29) are blank, it returns a #VALUE! error. I would like the cell to remain blank. How can I do this? The formula is listed below.
=(SUM(E34-E6)-(SUM((E12)+E14)-(SUM((E21)+E22)-(SUM(E28)+E29))))

I have a spreadsheet that has been sent to multiple clients. I have discovered an error in a few of the cells:
1. a link between two cells is broken so the correct number is not showing up in the cell. It is a simple formula ie: =A15, that I either forgot to put in or deleted in a fit of madness. It is in the same cell on the same worksheet in the workbook.
2. A hidden column on a worksheet has a formula that sums a range of cells. I have discovered that this range of cells is wrong. This error is duplicated on a number of worksheets in the workbook. The problem is that the error is in the same column in each worksheet but not in the same row.
Each worksheet is password protected. This is done through VBA code so the passwords won't be a problem.
The clients have already started working on the spreadsheet that I sent them and I want to send them a "fix" so that the correct formula will just update the spreadsheet they already have rather than me sending a completly new one and them having to start from scratch.
I had this wonderful spreadsheet set up with columns that appear and disappear and formulas galore so that the client didn't have to do to much work and then I find these errors after it has been sent. My testers let me down but that's life.
