Jul 16, 2012I'm trying to pull a specific 10 digit number from a text string. The ID # is always 10 digits however sometimes there are dates in the data that need to be excluded as well as other numbers such as "I-9". The 10 digit number will always start with 1 or 8. Is there a macro or Formula to extract this data? Please find the example dataset below.
Edit: I should specify I want the "100118416" number from the first cell example or the "800011320" number from the 10th example.

Delete Middle Part Of Text String
Mar 30, 2009I am looking for a formula to delete information from the middle of a text string. I have ~ 1,000 lines of data. Each text string is composed of the same way. The data I am looking for is two parts of the string (1) all the text up to and including the first “%” character (2) the last six characters.

Formula To Pick Out Text In Middle Of String And Return
Jan 20, 2014I am looking for a formula to remove the text 2.2 from the string Rav4 2.2 D-4d X or 1.33 out of Yaris 1.33 Vvt etc, I have tried using the formula
=IF(P2="","",VLOOKUP("*"&P2&"*",AM$1:AN$25,2,1))
But it just keeps returning #N/A. I have all the variables outlined in cells AM$1:AN$25 hence the reference. I currently have the formula
=IF(P2="","",VLOOKUP(P2&"*",AK$1:AL$25,2,1))
Which is working perfectly @ finding and returning the start of the string but just cannot get the one to find the middle characters.

Jun 18, 2008I have a text string with 3 data to be extracted and then split throu range, but only specific parts is needed.
string is like that:
Name Surname - Number : ################ - Exp : YYMM - Centre etc etc....
Lets say its allways happens in cell A3, for example:
Adrian Kukuwas - Number : 1235467890123456 - Exp: 1009 - Centre... I would like a macro:
*that runs only if string starts with a letter, then if so
*takes Adrian Kukuwas to cell D3
*takes 1009 (the exp) to B3 and makes it look like 09 10 (or 09_10)
*in A3 leaving only the number 1235467890123456 text formated (sometimes the copy source formats the cell for bad)

Jan 31, 2012I am trying to remove a middle initial from a text string however not all of the cells have middle initials. In column B I would like to return the first and last name. If needed I can have the first name in column B and the last in column C then combine them.

Mar 22, 2007I have a several hundred rows of data that are telephone line type, number and user name all concatenated. This is the way the data arrives. I need to extract the number and user name into 2 separate columns - I do not need the phone type. Is there a formula that can identify numbers within text. I can't use Text to Columns as the leading telephone line type varies and I don't want to use VBA to do the work. There are at least 10 different line types, example of some:

Apr 3, 2009I'm trying to pull text out of a middle of a long string of data located within one cell. The string is not always the same size and the text I need to pull out is not always in the same spot
For example - in this string

I want to pull out the text "Jimmy Bop (Broad)
It will always be between "adgroup=" and ">>/" (although sometimes the character ">>/" will appear multiple times within the string.

For example A1 will contain the text "Smith Sun Alliance Pension Fund" I need B2 to show "Pension". I cannot use any filtering or text to columns as the word Pension can be anywhere within the text in A1 and I have thousands of entries. So I need a function.

i.e. in this example, I want one column to display the earliest date associated with DU 145, and the next column to display the latest.
From what I understand, I need an array formula to do this and have written the following, which works:
=MIN(IF($A$2:$A$6=A2,$B$2:$B$6))
(confirmed with CSE) - and the same for MAX.
Where I'm struggling is that DU 145 may be entered in the workbook as DU145, DU 145 or DU-145 and I need to take all of them into account. I tried:
=MIN(IF($A$2:$A$6="du*145",$B$2:$B$6))
As this works in a COUNTIF formula in the same sheet. But this just returns a date of 00/01/1900. I'm new to array formulae & haven't really worked them out yet. Is there a way to do this? I assume it's something to do with the way I'm entering text as removing the wildcard * makes no difference.

Apr 3, 2012I have two formula i use to pull out the number from text in a cell (J2), the problem i am having is that it will only pull out numbers up to 99,999 and i now have numbers over a million in some case that i need to report on.
I have two way I have been doing this see below, how can i change them so they will pull the number over a million?

Apr 10, 2008I am having an issue with formatting a cell to 'general'. I have a macro that runs using a formula (i.e. =MID(A12, 18,5)) to extract certain characters from an external data source. I then use only the values of that formula. There then is another macro that compares that value to another value in another worksheet. The issue I am having is when the macro runs, the code is read as ActiveCell.Offset(0, 3).Value...but instead of returning the value in 'general' format, it returns it with what appears to be text (i.e. "75.50" instead of 75.5). This acts as a mismatch since the quotes appear.
I have attempted several things to correct, but even if I try to format-->general it maintains the quotes. The only way it changes is if I click within the cell...then it turns to general (i.e."75.00" becomes 75.5). I am not sure what is the issue.

C: captured the first 8 characters left. 56228491_115130-WP55 to 56228491
I am pulling the data into Excel via an ODBC where there is thousands of rows of data. The three column process puts a tremendous strain on the processor.
Is there a formula that will extract the 8 character number without a three step process?

As you can see in the excel, what Im trying to do is to find the time i.e which is the numbers in the field and display them seperately onto the cells beside. So what i need is to Find and extract these numbers 34,41,46,91 and paste them just beside cell on the list.

Oct 28, 2007I want to find a number within a text string, then count the letters in the same string, then add the number to the number of letters.
For example, if I have 9RR in a cell, I want to add 9 + 2 = 11.
The data will always be arranged with the number on the left side of the string.
So, if the number is a single digit, I know I can use left(A1) + len(A1) -1 to get my desired result. But, the trouble I am having is what if there is a double digit number like 10RR...I'm not quite sure how to create a formula (without using VBA) to give me a result of 12 for this cell.
Returning Number From Text String
Jul 24, 2007I have been trying a few formulas to return numbers from a string of text. The problem I am having is that there are more than one set of numbers that I need returned.
Here is an example of the text entered in F2
"K2PT bus structure [2 locations] & strain structure South West of L9L12-12 [1 location] / Use #4/0, std, cu conductor, connector Cat ID#10842 at structure leg & connector Cat ID#9655 at #4/0, std, cu gnd loop to connect #4/0, std, cu gnd loop to str leg."
What I need returned in a cell H2 is the numbers beside the Cat ID#
10842, 9655
I tried a Return Right Value formula, but I think because there are more than one possible value it isn't working properly.
Parse Name & Number From Text String
Jan 11, 2008I receive a text file daily of between 100 to 50,000 rows. It is a combination of many smaller text files or " records". Each record contains a row containing the name and some particulars . From 1 to 5 rows below that row there may or may not be a row containing the score for that record.
Here is an example of what the rows look like;
4505329 64036593 150090 MS MARY SMITH AB Finished
CRP 3.0 SCORE: 400
From the first row I need to pull out the second string of digits (ex 64036593) and the person's name. From the second row I need to extract the score (400). I would like to copy the three pieces of information to 3 separate columns on another sheet.
Comments
1. the word "Finished" always appears at the end of the row with the name in it but it also appears at the end of every record in it's own row like this;

2. the strings of digits in the first row can vary in length but there are always 3 of them and they are always seperated by spaces.
I need to extract all the names and scores and put them in a table. If a name is not followed by a score I need to put "no score".
Suppression Of Zeros Even In The Middle Of Number Fault
May 17, 2013I have a large excel spreadsheet which looks at a number of test results for students in school. The worksheet being prepared by marcos to display different class results dependent on the teacher select so they can view their class data. The sheet works fine and does all I need but have a fault with the transfer of test results which contain zeros. These are transfered with the zero missing even if the zero is in the middle of the number eg 203. The display if zeros is not suppressed and I have no format to suppress zeros but also understand these commands on suppress empty cells containing just zero.
This code will bring up the fault shown above and will loose zeros so 10 on source sheet becomes 1 and 102 becomes 12

I wondered if the SUBSTITUTE command is causeing issues but cannot remember quite what this command does - may have copied from elsewhere and not fully understood it.
The following code is used elsewhere on the same worksheet to display the same test result but in a individual pupil format rather than as a class sheet.
VB : =IFERROR(VLOOKUP($C$7,INDIRECT($H$14),888,False),"")
This picks up the same result but does not suppress the zeros. It cannot be used to do the job of the upper code as it reads from the original source where as the upper line of code reads from a central point which does not change so the data from 6 different areas is copied into this area.
These are not part of macros just in a cell. The cells are not formatted and then right click format cell is just "general".
Needless to say I need to know what I have done wrong to get the test result to be displayed incorrectly so I can correct it to get the sheet right.
