I have an Excel application (Excel 2003) which is stored in the default Program Files folder by the Installer; for example: c:program fileszxchello.xls. The problem I am running into is this file opens as Read Only in Vista and this is interfering with the running of the application. There is no problem opening the file normally in Windows XP.
I have been able to narrow down the cause of this to the User Account Control system in Vista - if I turn OFF User Account Control, the Excel file opens normally and my application functions normally. Is there another option to open the Excel file without turning OFF User Account Control because some users may find it unacceptable to turn OFF this security feature. Ofcourse, one option is to install the application in another location, outside the Program Folder, and the file would open normally, but the Packaging Wizard that I am using to package the application does not allow me to install the application in any other location and thus, the application installs in the Program Folder and I am running into this problem of the Exel file opening as Read Only. Is there a way out of this situation where I can open the file normally (not as Read Only)?
I've recently discovered the usefulness of VB in excel and have managed to write some basic macros that enhance many of my workbooks. BUT, I've bumped into a problem I can't seem to solve. Please help!
I'm looking to import the values in a large range of cells ( 5 x 5000) in a closed workbook into a range that i specify in an open one, where both workbooks are housed in the same directory. I also want to include logic that allows me to move the 2 files to different directories (the names will never change, only the paths) and have the code still work--I believe i'd use relative path references?
I've found lots of snippets of code on the topic but can't seem to get any of them to work. For instance: http://spreadsheetpage.com/index.php...a_closed_file/
Problem is, I'm so new that I don't even know where to begin pasting the code (objects vs. modules, etc) in the VBA editor.
I took two weeks perfecting an Excel file and was writing them to disc just now to transport and use on other machines. I opened the file to add instructions and the files are now read only? Propteries show read only on the written files but not on the originals???
why the below code opens files as read only? What this code does is open all worksheets, in four different folders, whose filenames include the desired date. For example, if i want all worksheets for the 19th, then K117819, k127819, k217819 and K226119 all open. Except they open as read-only which requires saving to a different location and then renaming - which sort of defeats the time saving reason for running the code in the first place.
Public Sub Auto_Open() Dim sCurFile As String Dim sPath As String Dim mpath As String MsgBox "This tool will print all four production lines line report total sheet for any month and day in 2007" mpath = InputBox("Enter the month i.e. 01 for January", "print") fpath = InputBox("Enter day of the month to print (use leading 0's)?", "print") Application. ScreenUpdating = False Application.DisplayAlerts = False Application.AskToUpdateLinks = False 'Get the path sPath = "t:2007" & mpath & "k11"...............
Is there a way of reading .csv files and copying the data from say Sheet1 without actually opening the file itself? I have .csv's that will take some time to open due to size so dont really want to open them, but want to copy the data from all of them within a specific folder.
Does Excel can be used to read data from HDF files? Specifically, what I would like to do is this: I have an Excel worksheet with some latitude data on Column A and longitude data on Column B. I would like to open a HDF file, which contains many sets of data, out of which 2 are the latitude/longitude data, and a third set contains the data that I want to extract. I will use the latitude data in Column A to search through the first set in the HDF, which will return me the row number. I will then use the longitude data in Column B to search through the second set to return the column number. With these row and column numbers, I will then extract the corresponding data in the third set, and write it to Column C in the worksheet.
how to write a simple VBA code for it? Or point me to some relevant information?
with 06-09-05 0000020 Name as a directory off the current App.path, and 06-09-05 0000020 Name.xls being the name of the file in the directory. It does have a sheet called "Notes". The thing of it is, the hyperlink takes me to the right place, it just gives me an error message every time saying "Reference not valid". How can it be taking me to the right place, and still giving me the error?
I have a number of files in a directory, with data in columns A:E, and variable rows deep (200-300) that I’d like to copy to the active workbook. I’d like to have a file window open to the same set directory (ie. “CArchives” and be able to select any file in that directory to copy.
Note: There are 2 separate ranges to copy, which must be done separately because the headings are to be moved 2 columns over - also, there is data in beteen the headings and main data in the active workbook.
Range 1: Two headings cells in A1:B1 get transposed to C1:D1. Range 2: the files’ data starts at A4 but gets inserted starting at cell A6 of the active workbook.
I am trying to determine a way to quickly import data from text files into Excel and place data in suitable columns (under correct headings). I am thinking I could be asked which file to read and import doing them 1 by 1, or if there is an automated way to cycle through all the files that would be more efficient (filenames are variable).
From the text files I have attached I can tell the column headers and what data should go under each. Not sure how you would describe the delimiting on these files? Are these files in a format that VBA could be used to reduce manual copy and paste approach? I have about 300 of these files I want to extract the data from.
Note: the attached files are from a public access website.
Sometimes I need to copy something to the clipboard, then go to another sheet (or somewhere). When I get "there", I sometimes want to insert rows, without "inserting cut/copied cells" . . . . So I end up saving the worksheet to clear the clipboard, then inserting my rows.
Can I insert blank rows while maintaining my clipboard?
I have a Weight Watcher spreadsheet. I enter the Calories, Fat and Fiber and I get the # of points for that food. Then I keep put those points into the lower part of the spreadsheet where I track what I eat, and Excel does my simple math for me. What I want to do is keep a list of my foods, and their point value in my spreadsheet. I would like to be able to put the food name in Cell A1, the WW points in BI, and then be able to click a button with a macro that takes those two pieces of data and add them to bottom of my food list. I don't have a food list yet, I would assume I can just put it on sheet 2. I then want to be able to use lists in my cells to choose the food in the future. I need to be reminded how to make "dynamic named ranges. Today, I just need to know how to write the macro to copy and paste those two cells in the first open row at the bottom of my food list.
When I view my page on print preview it shows 2 pages but I only have stuff on one page the second page shows 2 border marks but when I go to erase them I can't find them. Is there some way that I can find them other than look at page after blank page.
i'm working on floyd algorithm macro for a project, problem is, the spreadsheet matrix is huge, it's a 1043 x 1043 spreadsheet And this is taking wayyy too long, i've been waiting for almost 2 days already.. here's the file : http://ifile.it/6v2j39f (You start the macro using "run" command in "input" sheet)
So is there any way to speed it up? Or if anyone got a supercomputer, could you help me process this? :p
I'm thinking about changing the 10^5 value into infinite value, but i can't find a way to display infinite value..
And here's some reference for Floyd's algorithm, http://ifile.it/12p5zle
I have tried to split the algorithm to make it process one iteration at a time, but i've been waiting like 2 hours with no result, and that's for 1 iteration, can't imagine how long it takes for 1043 iterations You can do this by deleting the.
Is there code that will take certain data from one Excel sheet to another named file in a different place on the network? Example Copy cell aa47 from "Recent Faxes.xls" that sits in "correspondence" folder. Then paste into cell B25 "Current Documentation.xls" in the "Sales Contacts" folder
I'm trying to open a file on a network drive...but I'm getting the following error message when it opens: "This file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding." Now, the file itself has no rights restrictions and is not read only. It doesn't appear to be locked.
Now, there are other Excel files in the same directory which I could open fine; however, the Excel documents having the above problem all have a little black icon "appears to be a padlock" (image attached) at the bottom left hand side of the Excel file icon. I tried the following:
- Renaming - Converting to a different file format (didn't work, it won't let me) - Opening in notepad...etc doesn't work.
This file is dated back in 2004...do you think it's corrupt? Is there anything i can do to open or recover this?
