we have 2 text file one is masters and other one child. we want to read the city from child text and wants to read the country coresposding to the city from master file.

the final output should look like

Read And Import Multiple Text Files Into Excel And Parse Data?

I am trying to determine a way to quickly import data from text files into Excel and place data in suitable columns (under correct headings). I am thinking I could be asked which file to read and import doing them 1 by 1, or if there is an automated way to cycle through all the files that would be more efficient (filenames are variable).

From the text files I have attached I can tell the column headers and what data should go under each. Not sure how you would describe the delimiting on these files? Are these files in a format that VBA could be used to reduce manual copy and paste approach? I have about 300 of these files I want to extract the data from.

Note: the attached files are from a public access website.

Files Saved To Program Files Folder, Open As Read Only

I have an Excel application (Excel 2003) which is stored in the default Program Files folder by the Installer; for example: c:program fileszxchello.xls. The problem I am running into is this file opens as Read Only in Vista and this is interfering with the running of the application. There is no problem opening the file normally in Windows XP.

I have been able to narrow down the cause of this to the User Account Control system in Vista - if I turn OFF User Account Control, the Excel file opens normally and my application functions normally. Is there another option to open the Excel file without turning OFF User Account Control because some users may find it unacceptable to turn OFF this security feature. Ofcourse, one option is to install the application in another location, outside the Program Folder, and the file would open normally, but the Packaging Wizard that I am using to package the application does not allow me to install the application in any other location and thus, the application installs in the Program Folder and I am running into this problem of the Exel file opening as Read Only. Is there a way out of this situation where I can open the file normally (not as Read Only)?

Code Opens Files As Read Only

why the below code opens files as read only? What this code does is open all worksheets, in four different folders, whose filenames include the desired date. For example, if i want all worksheets for the 19th, then K117819, k127819, k217819 and K226119 all open. Except they open as read-only which requires saving to a different location and then renaming - which sort of defeats the time saving reason for running the code in the first place.

Does Excel can be used to read data from HDF files? Specifically, what I would like to do is this: I have an Excel worksheet with some latitude data on Column A and longitude data on Column B. I would like to open a HDF file, which contains many sets of data, out of which 2 are the latitude/longitude data, and a third set contains the data that I want to extract. I will use the latitude data in Column A to search through the first set in the HDF, which will return me the row number. I will then use the longitude data in Column B to search through the second set to return the column number. With these row and column numbers, I will then extract the corresponding data in the third set, and write it to Column C in the worksheet.

how to write a simple VBA code for it? Or point me to some relevant information?

Excel 2011 :: Find Multiple Text Strings In Another Text String

How do I use an Excel formula to find which (if any) multiple sets, each of up to 50 words, exist in a series of rows of a spreadsheet - if set A has one or more words found in a searched cell.

A positive result will return a specific value in the designated result cell. If none of the words in Set A is found in the searched cell, the formulae will repeat the test for the words in Set B, and so on.

After all 50 sets of words have been tested, the formula will move to the next cell in the searched column.

New words will be added to the sets of words continually as required.

Multiple words within sets are included in double quotes. Within each set of words there will be some n-tuples of words (i.e. 24 adjacent words) that contain one or more of the words in the set, but for which the formula will be required to return a negative result. Example: Set A = word 1, word2, word 3, "word1 word2 word3". (The words within a set could also be each entered in separate columns, as opposed to all included in a single cell.) The single column of text to be searched is about 10,000 rows.

I am wanting to use the above in a spreadsheet that contains data downloaded from a series of bank accounts to automatically allocate items of expenditure to one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.

The formula will search the description field to find words that are used in the in the downloaded files from the various accounts to describe each transaction.

If a word describing travel expenditure (e.g. hotel, "holiday inn" but not "holiday travel") is found in the description of an expenditure item - the item cost will be allocated to the TRAVEL EXPENDITURE column, which is one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.

Happy to consider a different solution if the task can be done better a different way.

Tried using a combination of INDEX/SEARCH/IF in Excel, but was not able to get a correct result. PS I am using Excel 2011 for Mac - which does not allow macros, so the solution needs to be entirely formula based.

An original text string entry appearing in an Excel cell would be:

"N7C Neuroprotective J5Z Antiviral, other M2Z Antiarthritic, other J5A Antiviral, anti-HIV"

I need to extract N7C, J5Z, M2Z and J5A from this string and list these alphanumeric values in separate cells adjacent to the original text string. The challenge is that these alphanumeric references may appear in different positions within the original string with no fixed value e.g. a "," separating them. The alphanumeric references may also be 3 or 4 characters in length and there may be different numbers of alphanumeric references in the original string.

Another example would be (very different from the first):

"T2Z Recombinant, other K5B Radio-chemoprotective J3Z Antibacterial, other D3A Vulnerary A10C Symptomatic antidiabetic K6Z Anticancer, other R8A Antiasthma B6A Septic shock treatment I1Z Immunostimulant, other S1Z Ophthalmological R8B Antiallergic, non-asthma M1A1 Anti-inflammatory"

You can see that in this further example "A10C" & "M1A1" are 4 character alphanumeric strings wheras the others feature 3 characters.

What I have is a column of data(text) which contains amongst all the text three strings of text in ever cell in the column which I require copying into three adjoining cells

I know how to pull an entire text file
into an Excel Spreadsheet, but I only want specific information from
the text file not the entire text file.

What I have is about 25 text files stored in a folder, let's say
C: est.

Each file is named by a property address as follows:
209 MAIN ST.txt
213 MAIN ST.txt
111 ELM ST.txt
2356 WOOD AVE.txt

On the 11th row of each file is as follows:
Property Address:209 MAIN ST
On the 31st row of each file is as follows:
Total Value:30500

What I would like to do is read each file located in the "C: est
folder and write a record (row) into a single Excel Spreadsheet for
each property. I would like the Excel Spreadsheet to look as follows
once completed. Note the 1st row below is a header row that needs to
be generated by the code.

209 MAIN ST 30500
213 MAIN ST 60700
111 ELM ST 20400
2356 WOOD AVE 20900

Can I read a header list (in a spreadsheet, text file, or hard coded in
the code) which I would prefer the spreadsheet or text file method,
write the header row in A1 then B1. Next read the 25 text files and
search based on the header info written above (Property Address & Total
Value) and write the appropriate to the single spreadsheet. The 11th
row of the First text file value written in cell A2, then read the 31st
row of the First text file write the value in cell B2, then loop to the
Second text file and values from The 11th row of the Second text file
value written in cell A3, then read the 31st row of the Second text
file write the value in cell B3, so on and so forth until the last text
file is read and the last record is written.

I have about 100 Excel files in one folder that need to be saved as text files. They can keep the same name, but simply need to be converted to text files. I'd like to use VBA for this and I can't find examples that do exactly that...or ones that my limited knowledge can handle.

Excel files exist in C:Source and ALL of them should be saved as text files in C:Destination. Maybe there is an easier way, but I thought for sure there was a routine I could use.

Basically I have two files. File A) Consists of a billing spreadsheet of approximately 2500 orders. File B) Consists of a Customer spreadsheet with about 2400 customers. What I want to know is there a fast way to confirm based on customer last name and customer number that for each customer in file b that there is a billing entry in file a. I've gone the V-look up way which is effective but time consuming also. File A & B are going to get progressively larger and larger; thereby making the v- lookup not a very timewise solution.

I am trying to generate a sub that read the name of a check box (which is in text format) in a spreadsheet in this case sheet13 and according to that ask if that check box which is in another sheet (sheet4) is true or false, I mean if it checked or not, then perform other actions

I tried several things but always get an error.
Does some body know how to make the checkboxname variable a valid name for the checkbox object in sheet4?
