I have a spreadsheet which has "Employee: [agent 1 name]" in column A and it may or may not have the word "Break" in the same column before it mentions "Employee: [agent 2 name]". The amount of data between agent 1 and agent 2 varies and am needing code which will insert a row above "Employee: [agent 2 name]" if "Break" is not found, and add the word "Break" in column A on the inserted row. I would need this to loop through the spreadsheet until all 100+ agents have been searched.
I'm also needing this done for the word "Meeting" and would insert a row 2 rows above the next agent.
Find a short text string in a column of longer text strings and when that short text string is found return the longer text string that matches.
View 3 Replies View Related I am trying to do a sort of index match thing using VBA. What I am attempting to do is to use the prefix of a long number and try to find that exact prefix in a string array, and output that string array value. So this is what I have so far as a test:
[Code].....
So I can match the text exactly so if I put PREFIXB in cell A1 in this example, i will get the msg box saying "YES", but if I make it PREFIXB1231k4j3jj1kj32cj, it will display "NO". I want to get it so that PREFIXB will be displayed in the cell that I put the formula in. So if A1 = "PREFIX1AAA100CF" and cell B1 = "=ABC(A1)", cell B1 will display "PREFIX1AAA".
Now the thing is that these prefixes can have different lengths, but will never encompass the exact prefix of another. So if I had a prefix of: PRE1AB, I won't have a prefix of PRE1A.

If "-CROP" letter is round in the url then remove delete-up the entire row.
I have a file that I want a code to look for certain data and when found move the row to another sheet. The code needs to look at the active sheet because the name of the sheet will be different everytime I use it. It will also need to create another sheet named 'Online' that these rows are moved to.
The code will need to look for data that begins with either OAP, MCP, CPP, F4P, VAP, VWP, ITP and MEP. These will be followed by numbers i.e MCP123456. Once these are found I need the entire row removed to the created sheet.
The columns that these numbers will be in will vary on each file I use it on so it needs to look at the entire sheet rather than specific columns.
Also any cell that has data that begins with either MH and JD followed by 6 numbers that row needs deleting completely.
I am currently using this macro for deleting a row if a string is found:
[Code] .....
But I would like to be able to not delete that row, but also to delete the 13 row above that row, including that row too.
ROW 1
ROW 2
ROW 3
ROW 4
ROW 5
ROW 6
ROW 7
ROW 8
ROW 9
ROW 10
ROW 11
ROW 12
ROW 13
ROW 14 - NO MONEY
All this from No Money up to Row 1 will be delete, and loop.
I manage to do a proper search and the return value is correct, but the problem is when I don't get the correct value excel gives me an error, what I can add to make the result just to give me MsgBox "Not found"?
Code below:
Set Ran = Worksheets(2).Range("A:A").Find(CompName, lookat:=xlPart)
If Not Ran Is Nothing Then
MatchRow = Ran.Row
MatchCol = Ran.Column
End If
I have a string and a pattern. If a substring of the string is found in the pattern, the string is no longer valid. I would like to return a message stating which substring was found in the pattern.
String: K22+L09+P88+Q12+J56
Pattern: (N75|X02|A21|U67|L09|...)
Output Should Be: "J56 is an invalid code. Blah-Blah"
Code to test string against pattern:
Code:
Function Test_OPC(sCode, sPattern) As Boolean
Dim RegX As Object
Dim RegMC
[Code]....
I have two different functions, first is importing website to excel and the a second is testing string according to pattern. Each one of them is working ok. I'm trying to find a word " finance" in URL and put it into cell "A1".
Sub ParseWebsite()
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
On Error Resume Next
For i = 1 To 10
SiteURL = "URL;http://www.cnn.com"
With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:=SiteURL, Destination:=Range("A" & i))
.FieldNames = True
.RowNumbers = False
.FillAdjacentFormulas = False................
this line
Cells. Find(What:=searchterm, After:=Cells(1, 1), MatchCase:=False).Activate 'find pn that is stored in searchterm
causes a runtime error 91 when there are no results. "Object variable or with block variable not set"
Ideally, when there are no results, I would like to enter a loop, where I could provide a drop down list of fuzzy matches, but I am not sure excel can do fuzzy matches. I'd settle for just highlighting the row and moving on... any help?
Option Explicit
Sub Macro1()
ActiveSheet.Cells.Find(What:="AES", After:=Cells(1, 1), MatchCase:=False).Activate 'find the aes part number column

I am trying to search through column "I" for numbers that are decimals, when the first decimal is found, use the row number that the first decimal appears in the string that populates the bookmarks stored in a word template I have created. The code I have so far checks for the decimal and then populates the bookmarks, however it requires me to input the ranges manually, meaning I can set them as the first row in my tabel. But if the decimal appears in the second row and not the first I'm bookmarking the wrong data. Here is the code I have so far;

I am trying to count the number of specific words contained in a specific cell. If my data were static, and the list of keywords was short, there are many solutions such as using multiple instances of the length function as proposed by @shg here.
Suppose I have the following sheet: (column C is what I am trying to achieve)
A
B
C
1
[Code]....
That is, C2 will tell that B2 contained 3 of the keywords (1X beautiful, 2X happy) and so on.
I have enclosed 3 pictures with my question.
1. Is where the user is putting in data.
2. Is a spreadsheet with the data choosen from the action of the user, but it is containing also the non-choosen data from the input spreadsheet.
3. IS how I want the data shown to me either automatic or thru a macro. So is there any code like IF or some Macro who would make this happen?
What I want at the end of the day is a list of products that the user have put in and nothing else, with the QTY and price and the sum of that.
I am a casual user of Excel...and not that advanced..but I have noticed that on some of my spreadsheets there is a probelm making an entry or editing via the control F2 key.
When I go to enter either, this blue box appears..."MS Viisual Basic"..with "Can't find project or library"..and if I hit OK...it goes to another box that says "References VBAProject"..and then if I hit OK the entry goes in. I think so how along the line I must have made some entry that looks like Basic..for I have not deliberately done that, as I do not know or have used Basic. So how or what do I do to get this out of my spreadsheet?
I have a spreadsheet which was formatted from VB code. Within the sheet there are four date columns where some dates show as 00/01/1900 (due to them having '0' in at the time of running the code). I am trying to run some code to blank out all cells showing the 00/01/1900 date, but the code just isn't touching it. I reverted to simply recording the 'find and replace' function and inserting into my code, but those irritating dates still remain.
Code I have used is as follows:

I'm trying to remove everything after a specific character in a string.
I.e. change a website address to the hostname
http://www.excelforum.com/newthread.php
http://usa.excelforum.com/forum/new
to
excelforum.com
usa.excelforum.com
I'm using this formula, which strips the http:// and the www., but does not replace the characters after the first remaining "/" as the wildcard is not recognized.
=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A2,"www.",""), A2,"http://",""), A2, "/*", "")
I'm attempting to extract the Street Names from an Address.
For Example, if given "123 Very Big Street" I'd want to extract "Very Big".
If given, "123 Very Big" I'd want the same answer.
I've written code to do this, with a simple IF statement to identify mathcing last words like "Street" and "Drive".
How can I efficiently do this with a large list of last words? I'm drawing a blank on how to query against an array that would contain all these values.
How can I remove everything to the left of the first space in a String? For exapmle - 'Mr Adam Bill' should become 'Adam Bill'
If someone enters "1,000" in a TextBox, Isnumeric(TextBoxEntry) says True
If I convert it to a value with something like x = TextBoxEntry * 0, the 1,000 becomes 1
I would prefer it to be 1000. Just removing commas would do the trick. How to do it.
The below function concats a range of cells by csv. How can I get it to remove the last comma in the string when it's finished?
Function SpecialConcatenate(rnge As Range) As String
Dim r As Long, col As Integer
For c = 1 To rnge.Columns.Count
For r = 1 To rnge.Rows.Count
If rnge.Cells(r, c) "" Then
SpecialConcatenate = SpecialConcatenate & _
rnge.Cells(r, c).Value & ","
End If
Next r
Next c
End Function
I have a list of data that populates B2:B2900
This data is often prefixed by a 'reference code' that I wish to be removed.
Now rater than perform this manually aprox 3000 times is there a formula or some VB code that will complete this for me....
eg
The list of data is shown like:
SC7547-05 - Payne, Freda
SC8706-08 - Rungren, Todd
SC8714-05 - Travis, Randy
SC7517-03 - Beach Boys, The
Love Song
Now You're Gone
SC7512-01 - Horton, Johnny
SC8721-15 - Journey
So I wish for the SC7547-05 - to be removed from the first example to just leave Payne, Freda and continue this throughout the list
However if the data is found not to include this code (as in the 5th/6th examples above) leave it alone
So if the code of formula is run for the above the outcome would be....
Payne, Freda
Rungren, Todd
Travis, Randy
Beach Boys, The
Love Song
Now You're Gone
Horton, Johnny
Journey

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a set of data in column a that consists of email addresses. These email addresses all have underscores after them, ie "abc@hotmail.com_______". It will be a different amount of underscores everytime and I don't want underscores to be removed that are actually part of the address. I had been using the find replace function through vba, ie
Range("A:A").Select
Selection.Replace What:="_", Replacement:="", LookAt:=xlPart, _
SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False, _
ReplaceFormat:=False
however this ofcourse removes from actual parts of the email address. Is there a way to do this?
I've come across multiple times where I have to do this same sort of task, and I don't think I am doing it the most efficient way.
What I need to do is take a variable which holds a string and remove the last 9 characters from it. Don't need to know what the last 9 characters are, all I care about is knowing what the other characters are in the string. I know this can be done through thingslike susbstrings, but I don't think VBA has a substring function.
the if stattement works perfectly and does exactly what i want except when it comes to the else part. if there is no error the statements are run perfectly but if there is an error (in this case the error is generated when a match cannot be found in the spreadsheet) the else statement doesnt kick in and post the msgbox.
the code just crashes. and returns an error 1004 on the line i have highlighted in yellow
res = WorksheetFunction.Match(invvar, Columns(1), 0)
If Not IsError(res) Then
Me.txtClientID.Value = ws13. Cells(res, 7)

I am trying to remove all characters that aren't letters or numbers from a string. Is there any way to differentiate between a non-alphanumeric characters and alphanumeric characters? I'm thinking of something like "ISTEXT()" that I could use on one character at a time. Or are there any wildcards I could use in the Replace function?
