I am building somewhat of a rudimentary search engine that looks for a name, address or unique identifier, using an Index Match formula that searches with a wild card:
"Name": is the defined name for column C on a separate sheet. F3: is "search field"
The current formula (above), only returns the first match. The source data is only 927 lines so not overly large. I would like to have an additional page that will show the potential results from the wildcard search via a formula. Therefore needing results; 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. from the Index Match. I have searched high and low for solutions but I have found none in regards to retrieving multiple results from a wildcard search, only on a specific term.
I have a spreadsheet where there are lines of different Wage Types but only certain combinations are needed. For example I have Pay Area 1234 which needs all wage types except those beginning with a 9.
To do this I have set up Sheet1 to look like this:
12341 12342 12343 12344 12345 12346 12347 12348
and not 12349 as I do not require this type.
The problem here is I need to add a wildcard to the end of these so it finds anything that starts with 12341 etc.
Sheet1 contains the personal details of employees and I have concatenated the Payroll Area and Wage type in column D.
Sub deleterows() Application.ScreenUpdating = False Set MySheet = Sheets("data") LR = MySheet.Cells(Rows.Count, "D").End(xlUp).Row For i = LR To 2 Step -1
I have numerous formulas that use a macro with an indirect cell reference, for example: INDIRECT(macro(A21))
I am moving these formulas to a different workbook and I need them to still refer to items in the old sheet. I accomplish this by using this formula:
INDIRECT(CONCATENATE("OtherSheet.xls!",macro(A21))) This works. However, I need to do a global search and replace for all of these formulas without deleting my indirect cell reference. I could replace macro with CONCATENATE("OtherSheet.xls!",macro but that would leave me short a ). Is there a way to use a wildcard to accomplish this? It does not seem that replace macro(*) with CONCATENATE("OtherSheet.xls!",macro(*))
I need to do a vlookup on C1 in range A1:B1 that will return B1 if C1 contains the string in A1. I've tried using the TRUE variable in the vlookup formula which does not require an exact match. This works for about 80% of my data but is not 100% accurate. Of course I've got a long list of data ... not just the 3 cells.
I need to get rid of the questions marks in the text on my sheet, but am unable to get my VBA code to search for an actual question mark and not the wildcard. I'm using the replace function as follows:
wsReport. Cells = wsReport.Cells.Replace("?", "")
1. What's the trick to searching for wildcard characters?
I'm trying to perform a search of over 15,000 entries using a wildcard. Sheet1 is a list of streets in the county where I live, and I would like to be able to type a part of the name that will return every instance of that name appearing.
I found a code which i have tried to adapt, but it is not working.
The item being searched will be entered into TextBox1, and I'm guessing that the error I am receiving is in the .AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:=TextBox1"*" line of code. This is the original sample I found onlne:
where they were only looking for the letters "GB".
I'm having a hard time getting a MATCH formula to return the correct results. See attached workbook. I have a list of names and wish to look for the first 6 characters of each name in another list and return the row number that the 'MATCH' appears in. The formula I am having problems with is in column 'E' of the ' Analysis' sheet. I have entered the expected result in column 'F'.
I have a sheet with Names in it. I need to look those names up and find which org they belong to. The problem is the the names have many characters after them, and many names belong to a few orgs, with a the rest belonging to many orgs. (See below)
I have been trying to get a Vlookup to work, but since it can't go left, it won't look up the orgs that don't own at least three names. And I can't get the search to work on the names.
I would like to search for a certain pattern that appears in a cell. For example, I have certain cells that begin with a 7 digit project code (Ex: "1234567 - Project Red"). I was planning to use an IF inside a FOR loop and then do an action when I find the cell with the pattern. I thought I remember it being something like Format(########*) so that I have the wildcard on the end since there is more than just the numbers. how to make other patterns work such as Number-Letter-Number or Capital-Lowercase-Capital
I am trying to run a routine in VBA that will Search for a Part-No. that normally contains asterisks. It is giving me bad positive Search results due to the coding looking at the (*) asterisk's as a wildcard character.
The following Part-No.'s are located in cells (C11:C16): 9L3Z*17757*BCP 6C3Z*16138*AACP AE5Z*16138*B AE5Z*17E811*CF AE5Z*17E811*F AE5Z*17E810*F
Part-No. to be Searched for: AE5Z*17E811*F
When the below code is run, the incorrect Part-No. 'AE5Z*17E811*CF' is found in cell (C14) rather than the correct Part-No. found in Cell (C15).
Code: 'The following 2 lines are defaulted for ease of coding pNumb = "AE5Z*17E811*F" Range("C11", "C16").Select
I need to replace "G542" in the formula above. For example, in cell J541 shown above, I need it to output "1996-1999|2000-2001" instead of "1996-2001" I need the output to include LEFT(G541,4)&"*"&RIGHT(G541,4)
Let us say I have the following text in Cell A1. "There is a fault in the cal cycle.Need to update the records." And in cell A2 I have the following text. "Called for backup assistance. There is an issue with numbers." I cells B1 & B2 I need a particular formula which searches for the substring "cal" exactly and returns true if present. In cell A1, we have "cal" in the text. So it should return true for me in cell B1.
However in cell B2 I need false to be returned even though I have "Called" inside the text. I need true to be shown only for those cells where we have the exact text "cal" and no text characters in front or back of it.
Column J is the date opened. Column T is the date closed. Of course, column T will have no date if still open. Column K and O may or may not have text. Column AF6 has a date, mm/dd/yyyy, that is entered/changed depending on the search.
What I need is a formula in AF8 that will look at the date entered in AF6 and find a match in columns J and T. Then it will look to see if there is text in K and O. If so, populate AF8 with that text.
Col. A = Article, Col.B = Part Number, Col.C = Location
I am currently using an index & match formula to create a search function. For example if I want to know what article number PLU547 has then I use
This use of wildcard is fine until it comes to part number searches such as PLU54 (which is not in the list). In this instance the formula returns the first article number from the list that starts with PLU54. However, part number PLU54 is a code in its own right and I fear that using the wildcard approach needs a modification to limit the returns.
I need to search for an exact match within a cell & i am unsure of how to go abt it. Eg ) Cell A1 contains "Emea West,Emea East,Emea". I want to search for the term "Emea" in the contents of the Cell A1. I cant use Find() as using "=FIND("Emea",A6)" returns 1 ... But i want an exact match i.e "Emea" only which in this case should be 21. The Exact() works well if Cell A1 had a single value ...I guess I would need to use some array function here which will parse through contents of the cell , but am not sure on how to go about
Tring to get the following spread sheet to calc column C using two criteria Criteria 1 Column D must contain HC Investor anywhere Criteria 2 Column A must be less than Reimbrusement - 11 The following formula in G2 appears to have an error in criteria 1 ....
I am new to VBA and am having difficulties in getting a find function to successfully locate search criteria within cell. When the search criteria matches exactly that of the cell contents then the code works; however should the search criteria only form part of the total cell contents (such as a seach for "the" in a cell containing "the cat sat on the mat") the code doesn't recognise it.
Essentially, I need the code to search a range for the required string and if found within a cell activate that cell and populate a combobox with the full cell contents of the activecell.offset(0,-2).
The relevant section of code attached below:
Dim role_count as range Dim role as string
If Application.WorksheetFunction.CountIf(Range("Role_Count"), Role) 0 Then Range("role_count").Select Selection.Find(What:=Role, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt:= _ xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False _ , SearchFormat:=False).Activate
Search the activecell for a text string (a), and then either paste in text string (b) at the end of the cell if (a) is found, or text string (c) if (a) is not found.
For example, if the activecell has "AA/" in it, I want the cell to become "AA/01" (pasting in "01" at the end), and if the cell has just "AA" in it, I want it to still become "AA/01" (pasting "/01" at the end). The macro will be linked to a commandbutton.
Search a worksheet for a user defined text string, and have excell return the contents of a predetermined column in the same row in which the text string was found.
A prepopulated worksheet has the text "gold" entered in cell T278.
1. user searches for "yellow_metal" 2. Excell finds "yellow_metal" in row 278, say in cell A278. 3. Excell then goes to predetermined column (programed as part of macro or VB), say "T", and returns the text contents of the cell in that column, T278 in this example. 4. Excell returns "gold"
I am having problem filtering out criteria by putting together a sumproduct formula. I would want to use wildcard to populate 2 criteria from the data sheet, they are "Ducted Evaporative Cooler Single Stage 1 Tier" and "Ducted Evaporative Cooler Single Stage X-1 Tier". In my formula, I have used a wildcard "Ducted Evaporative * 1 Tier*" for the prior and "Ducted Evaporative * X-1 Tier*" for the later. I would like to know whether by checking my formula that i am using....
I have a file which has in excess of 12,000 rows of data in 5 columns (sample file attached with fake data). The five rows are:
"First Name" "Last Name" "Name" (uses CONCATENATE to combine column A & B) "Email" "Date Attended"
There will be duplications in the list as people will have attended more than once over the years. What I want to do is search through the email addresses (Column D with D1 being the header) and where there is a duplicate email address copy the cell to the right of the duplicate (F#) into the next available cell to the right of the first occurance and then delete the row with the duplicated email address.
I need a macro that can search a sheet for a match and then copy all 7 cells to the right of the match. I have attached an example of the sheet that will serve as the database to search, and a userform example that will be similar to the userfrom that will display the copied cells when a match is found. I plan to copy and paste the 7 cells to a different sheet so that the userform can display the results with the control source property. I do not need a way to add to this database. I know very little about searching a database so.
I need to find a formula which will search a list of cells looking for a particular text string. If it doesn't find this text string it then needs to search for the next one. For instance if I had a list of product codes: ABCD1234, BCD1234, ABCD2345, CDE23456, BCD2345 I want the formula to look up and see if the cell contains the text ABCD and if so return ABCD as the value, if not I want it to go on and see if the cell contains BCD and return the value BCD, if not then go on and search the value CDE etc. It seems like an easy job to do manually but I have a list of over 3000 codes to do this.
