Searching A Column For A Word And Deleting All Rows That Don't Contain It

Jun 21, 2007

I am trying to create a search function in a database I have made. I have a userform with drop down boxes that people can choose what they want to search for. Once they have chosen and clicked the search button I want it to search only in the relevant column, i.e. search for the word in the dropdown for "engine" only in the "engine" column of the database. Once it has found the appropriate cells with the answer, I want it to delete all other rows that don't include the answer.

Once it's done this it needs to do it again for the other fields, unless they are empty. I have used 'If engine_type <> "" Then' as the starting point so that it only searches chosen fields.

Searching For A Key Word In A Header

Jan 2, 2009

I finally bought the "book" and now I am going through trying to write cleaner macros.

I am searching for a key word in a header.
When I find that key word. I want to select the info in that row from the last record up to the header.
Then I want to copy that info and paste it into another column.

so trying to learn from the book - I want to use the R1C1 style - but as you can see I don't quite understand yet. I want to copy and paste into column "J" for example... so i'm using 10 in the range.

FinalRow = Cells(65536, 1).End(xlUp).Row
Range(FinalRow, 1).Copy Destination:=Range(, 10)

Find Total Hours By Searching Entire Rows Below Selected Cell Versus Cells In A Column

May 19, 2014

I'm using the following code to delete select rows one at a time. I need the last row in the range to remain therefore I prevented the user from deleting the row one up from the row that contains "Total Hours" (which is always in Column B). The code works great as long at the user clicks into a cell in column B. If the user clicks into a cell in column A, C, D, E, F, G, H, or I then the code allows the user to delete the last row.

I believe I need to search entire rows to determine if the row contains "Total Hours" .

Searching For Specific Word In VBA Case Script

Jun 4, 2012

some of the code proved inflexible when applied to other columns of data. I have some VBA code that could work if it can be modified. First the code:

Sub ColorMe()
Dim lRw As Long
lRw = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row

[Code].....

The way things are right now, if a cell in the B-column contains the word "April" (and ONLY that word), the contents of the C-column's cell on the same row receives a red font color (index 3 as per the example above). The idea is to modify the code so that it searches for the word "April" in a string of text such as "Mike's April Trip" and color the contents of the cell to the right of it accordingly. Is this possible?

As an aside, conditional formatting does not work for the purpose that the cells are being colored for. It needs to remain hard-coded like in the script above, hence why I am just looking to modify something that 'sort-of' works.

VBA Code For Deleting Rows Where Cell In Column A States

Mar 20, 2009

I'm trying to get a VBA macro put together that would delete all the rows, throughout every sheet, and shift up wherever the cell in column A = "Delete Row" in a workbook I've made. In the below copy of the workbook you can see that a lot of the information from all the tables is linked to the topmost table on the 'Mix Detail Sheet'.

If the the Cell in column A is blank on that first table, its corresponding cells in tables throughout the workbook displays the words "Delete Row". I need the macro to delete the rows and shift everything up where this occurs.

Ideally I'd also like the macro to then delete the rows in that first table where the column A cells are blank.

VBA Deleting Entire Row When Certain Word Appears?

Sub test()
Dim r As Range
With ActiveSheet[code]....

The problem is, "Vacant" also sometimes appears in column G. So, as this code is now it is finding the word "Vacant" in either column F or column G and then deleting the row.

How can I write the code so that it only deletes the row where "Vacant" appears in column F but ignores it when it is in column G?

Deleting Characters From A Word File

Nov 10, 2006

I'm trying to automate a redundant task. I have several Word files in one central folder. I need to open each file, remove all paragraph marks (via find/replace all), copy the result, and paste it into an Excel sheet. This process will be repeated for each file in the folder.

The code I have is almost there, however, I can't get it to do the find/replace. Below is an extract of my code for the Word application part. The code for the copy and paste will be inserted after the replace action works:

Dim Wapp As Object
Dim i As Integer

WorksheetsLocation = TextBox1.Value ' this is the folder location brought in from an input box

On Error Resume Next
Set wApp = GetObject(, "Word.Application")
If Err.Number 0 Then 'Word isn't already running
Set wApp = CreateObject("Word.Application")
End If
On Error GoTo 0

Clear Rows Vs. Deleting Rows To Avoid #REF! Formula Error - Macro

Jun 9, 2009

I have a macro which is copying data from several worksheets into one consolidation worksheet. When determining where to paste the data into the consolidation sheet, the macro includes some logic to find the last row that has data in it (using e.Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Row, where "e" is a variable holding the name of the consolidation worksheet).

Once all the data is on the consolidation worksheet, I have a second worksheet with formulas that link to the consolidation sheet. The issue I have is that the first step of my consolidation macro deletes all data on the consolidation sheet to ensure that no data is double-counted). I am deleting the data with logic that simply deletes all rows from 3 to 65536. Once these rows are deleted, Excel returns a #REF! error on my second worksheet which is linking back to this data.

Rather than deleting the rows on the consolidation sheet, I have tried using the Clear and/or ClearContents commands instead. This works (i.e., my formulas no longer error out), but results in the consolidation macro running very slowly (~15 minutes, compared to

Searching Values And Returning Entire Rows

Oct 3, 2013

I have created a worksheet with 7 Tabs. 6 of the tabs are tables of existing parts and their catalog information. The Front Sheet I want to be a place where people can select data via a drop down or typed in, and in turn have that headsheet display the results of the search.

I have the 6 tabs broken down by part type, and figured those can easily enough be the first choice on my worksheet. So by picking that I can direct excel to which tab we want to run the search on, but ater that I'm drawing a blank.

For an example, say I'm looking for a Elbow that has a 6 size on one end. I would like to use the drop down to choose "Elbows" and then like to select/type 6 in the End 1 size box and have Excel show me all the reslts from the Elbow Tab that match that criteria.
