I am trying to split a string into separate cells. I have managed to generate the formula for the description and first dlr value in the string but I am have trouble figuring out how to build functions for the rest of the string.
Example attached.
I have two columns of data, one for Position, and one for description.
The positions are concatenated and separated by spaces. E.g. C1 C2 C3 for each Description. I need to create a separate row for each position
So I need to convert:
Pos Decscription
C1 C2 C3 Cap 100n 10% X7R 0805
to:
Pos Decscription
C1 Cap 100n 10% X7R 0805
C2 Cap 100n 10% X7R 0805
C3 Cap 100n 10% X7R 0805
Or in other words split a space delimited string into an array, so that I can loop through the array, and add new rows
I have a string of data coming from a SQL Server data connection into my workbook. The value in the column is a text string that is pipe delimited. I need a macro to parse the data from that column into applicable separate columns. I would typically use text to columns for this and parse it out manually... but the tool I'm creating is one of the automated variety, so that will not suffice for this application. I need it to do this automatically when the data connection refreshes.

On sheet one, in the column column C I have cells which have characters separated by a space character (For example cell C3 looks like this: "L C"; cell C12 looks like this: "S BF54FR"). There are only a few cells which have more than three characters. The characters are separated by a space character. I would like the macro to do the following: take out each on of the character in put in the same row next column. (For example if in column C has the value: "L C" then in the same row column D should have the value "L" and column E should have the value "C". Or if column C was "S BF54FR" then column D should have the value "S" and column E "BF54FR".
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 5K rows of data, each including a cell (AD) of multiple number values, separated by comma. I would like to create a new row for each unique number in column AD such that there remains only one unique value for every AD cell.
If possible, I would prefer an in-cell formula rather than a macro.
On a daily basis I open about 35 text files in Excel at one time, and then must responde to 35 dialog boxes:
"This file is not in a recognizable format" - I click OK
"Delimited or Fixed Width (default)" - I change to Delimited
"Delimiters listed with Tab as default" - I change to Space
I go through that 35 times. I don't save these files that I have opened, but once they are all open I paste each one in a separate worksheet in one workbook.
Can I at least change the defaults on these text boxes to Delimited, Space? That way I would just need to click on OK, then Finish for each file.
I am using Excel 2000.
Why can't I apply text functions on strings into the file? For example: can't apply "Text To Columns" delimited by space on "Status Entry Date" column.

As this can cover hundreds of lines I would like to make it less tedious to enter, and as my MACRO knowledge is very basic.
The data starts off in format below in example 1. After the data is CUT from the .html or .pdf document and PASTE into EXCEL. I would like the MACRO to start by pressing an activate button within EXCEL,
The serial numbers always have four digits with single serial numbers being separated by spaces and ranges being separated by a hyphen with the odd carriage return depending on how many numbers there are.
I would like the data to end up in two separate columns as shown in example 2.

This is a delima I cannot figure out. I had to create passwords for a website we are building. I have 3000 employee numbers has to be used. So what i did was took the first initial and middle initial and last initial and first 5 of the ID number. I did a comma delimiter to obtain all of the letters and numbers. example: ABC12345
My problem is none of the passwords work because when I imported the letters and numbers into the sheet it looks just like the above. However on review I cut and pasted back to notepad and the data looks like this:
"A B C 12345"
So its adding a tab in the password thats thats a problem, How do I remove this extra white space between each comma delimited digit? without having to manually delete it ?

I have been working on different formulas to return the text string between the first and last space and have been unsuccessful. Is this possible?
I have tried several combos or Left and Right, I have been able to get the values after the first space, and the values before the last space, but not between the spaces.

I have tried to alter some existing code from this site to accommodate my needs with no luck.
I would like a macro to convert the following.
Column A1-C1 contains Headers Column A-C contains Simple data to be copied down as many rows as needed to match the number of delimited pieces in the following columns. Columns D-I contain Data delimited by 3 spaces. The number of delimited pieces of data can be different in each row. The number of Delimited pieces of data will be the same in each column of a particular row. Example: if D4 has 4 pieces of data separated by 3 space, E4 will also have 4 pieces of data separated by 3 space, F4 will also have 4 pieces of data separated by 3 space and so on to I4.
D5 may contain 5 pieces of data separated by 3 spaces through I5 all containing 5 pieces of data.
Column G may contain a single space within the data delimited by 3 spaces.
Columns D-I may only have 1 piece of data with no delimiter.
I would like the Delimited data to be split apart and a new row created for each piece of data. and copy the corresponding data in column A-C to each new row.
If this can be done in the same worksheet or copied to an existing worksheet that would be great.

As I mentioned I found some VBA to do what I need but it only does 4 columns and I cant figure out how to make it do the 9 I need.
I have an excel sheet I create with lots of inventory items distributed amongst several locations. The first column is a location field where several 1-2 digit location codes are seperated by commas. I would love to get the macro to copy each row, once for each location code, onto a new tab as a new longer list. Because the amount of data per row varies, I need the entire row to be copied to the new tab....

I have the following format
First Name MI Last Name in Column A.
Sometimes there is a space on the last name for someone with a last name Mc Cormick (for example)
Also, sometimes the list of names is short and sometimes the list of names is long. Is there a way to get a "universal" macro in place, that will not depend on the number of names in the list but will be able to detect when the list ends?
So far I was able to run the macro to get them from text-to-column into cells A, B, and C. However, the middle column sometimes contains the last name if there isn't a middle initial. I need a way to test the middle column for more than one character. If there is more than one character, it is a last name and needs to be in the third column.

I need to delete a leading space from multiple cells, 200 or more. The leading space is in front of text that is often more than one word so I can't just copy into Word and do a find and replace on the spaces.
I looked in many places and found out about the Trim function but when I tried it, it didn't work for me. I created a column next to the column that I want to remove the leading spaces from.
Then I put =TRIM(B2) in the first cell, =TRIM (B3) in the next one, etc. But all it did was put the exact same thing as before (with the leading space still in it) in that column?
I found this code that import TAB delimited text file. I would like to import space delimited text file instead.

I have several lists of hundreds of emails that I need to list in an email string via Lotus Notes. I need a space and comma in between each name, ex:

I receive an extraction from AutoCAD that lists the electrical devices in a drawing. I don't have any problems extracting the letters. I have a problem extracting the device number and the device number extension.

I have a spreadsheet with a number of columns containing comma delimited strings (years) which I need to check cell by cell and return false if anything apart from the years 2001 to 2008 is found.
For instance, a cell may contain the years (2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) or (2006, 2007) or (2001, 2004, 2008) or (2004) or any combination of those 8 years.
I thought of using the Split function on each cell and then looping through the resultant array to do a comparison against each of the 8 years but with a large number of delimited strings to check it could be a bit time consuming. Any idea how I could accomplish this more quickly and efficiently either with a formula or VBA?

there is AT() which finds the first occurrence of a string searching from the left like FIND() and SEARCH(), and RAT() which finds the first occurrence searching from the right-to-left.

I need a macro to automatically insert a space between the numbers and the letters, for example, if someone types 10g it automatically converts it to 10 g.

I'm looking for a way to extract the data after the first space in a string to after the first set of numbers (always 8 digits). The formula I'm using is not accurate since the number of words that appears between the first space to the first set of numbers changes.

I need to add spaces to a string of characters so that it is readable, the database is huge so I cannot do it manually:
For example,
123456John Doe 3456Adam Sharp I need it to apperar as:
123456 John Doe 3456 Adam Sharp
but still remains at the same column. Is there a quick way to do this ?
I am interested in some sort of macro or formula that will strip all of the characters in a cell that come after that last space. My difficulty lies in that the string isn't a constant character count nor is the string always the same.
