is there a shortcut for navigating between 2 worksheets in the same workbook...
for eg if i am copying some values from sheet 1 into sheet 2 of the same workbook...wat i am doing now is clicking sheet1 copying the value then clicking sheet2 and pasting the value in the cell i want.. i want some shortcut ( if its there ) like ALT+TAB which is for navigating between different open windows.
I've recently created a macro which takes a .csv file and scrubs the data and dresses it up for a report. I've finally got it running without any problems and have added it individually to 5 different user accounts on my network as an add-in, but need a way to share it across a computer network without allowing others to edit the file.
The report is generated multiple times a day by the different users, none of whom are very computer literate (not that I am much better, myself), and the macro over-writes the old file each time. I've read that it's possible to simply create a shortcut to the file that automatically opens the spreadsheet in read-only format, which would be perfect for what I'm trying to do, but I haven't been able to get it to work so far.
My current shortcut pathway is similar to this:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice15EXCEL.EXE" /R "C:UsersBenDocumentsOT Master.xlsx"
On my computer at work (Windows 7) the shortcut simply opens the spreadsheet so that anyone can edit it, instead of as a read-only file. On my computer at home (I'm trying to experiment) (windows 8.1) it won't even let me save the shortcut, saying I need to provide administrator permission & then cutting to a window that says "access denied".
I won't have the pathway for the actual file I'm trying to create a shortcut for until tomorrow when I get back to work, but I've formatted it essentially the same, directing to the excel.exe file, running the switch "/R", and then directing it to the actual file location.
The ultimate goal is to have multiple people be able to view the file without locking out those who need to update it.
If I have an excel workbook open and then, select the side-by-side option to open another workbook, and I want to write a macro that will switch between the two - how can I do this? The problem is, I don't want it to switch by file names (one workbook constantly changes names), I just want it to switch between active workbook and inactive workbook.
Once I have the code to switch between active workbook and inactive workbook, how can I have my macro look at a cell and see if data is present and if so, drop down to the cell below.
Windows("Job Number Request form.xls").Activate
Range("C9").Select
Selection.Copy
Windows("Backup Copy of 2007 Capex Job Log.xls").Activate
Range("E570").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
I was checknig here for shortcuts...

I wanted to find a shortcut to select all sheets in a workbook. There are about 30 worksheets in my workbook, and selecting all is a pain.
in Excel 2003
I have a macro that unprotects a worksheet copies data from that worksheet and pastes it into a newly created and saved workbook. However I have two problems
1) I'm attempting to copy the data from the first workbook by selecting all cells and then when switching to the new workbook, select all cells and the paste special (values) then paste special (formats). This works when recording the macro but when I attempt to run it it bombs out.
Cells.Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, _
SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
2) How do I get the macro to switch back to the workbook it got its data from. The name of the source workbook varies and there may be from 2 to 15 workbooks open. Is there a previous active workbook command? or do I need to create some kkind of temporary value to hold the file name of the source workbook.

How can I switch from one Workbook to another?
I found no "open document" menu where all currently opened excel documents are listed.
The only way I found so far is by clicking on another preview in Win 7 Taskbar.
But I guess there must be a way INSIDE Excel as well.
Where can I find (and click) all open excel workbooks/files?
I have the code below but instead of defining the full name of the workbook which will change as different versions are created, can I get VBA to switch to that workbook using the partial name "Actuals Repository" and a wildcard? OR if possible for excel to just attempt to open the file, realise it is open, dont open another copy and skip the notification that usually pops up asking if you would like to open the file again.
Sub IsItOpen()
Dim Response As Integer
Response = MsgBox(prompt:="Is the Actuals repository already open?", Buttons:=vbYesNo)
If Response = vbYes Then
Windows("Actuals Repository*.xls").Activate
End If

I have created a very long switch statement, which is too long to be placed in one row in VBA. I have attempted to put a space and underscore at the end of one line and continue the statement on the row below by placing a comma at the start of the second line. VBA will accept my efforts, but when I run the statement in the immediate window, the following error appears.
"Invalid procedure call or argument"
I understand that there are certain rules where I can split a switch statement onto two lines, yet I do not know what they may be.
Could some one amend the VBA below to allow a continous loop on moving to the previous sheet within a workbook. Currently when I move to the first sheet if I use the shortcut key I get a debug error.

I have 2 nearly identical workbooks and I need to update historical data from the old workbook into the newer one.
My current Coding Snippets that I want to use look like the following:
Code:
Sub UpdateWorkbook()
Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim r1 As String
Dim r2 As String
Dim r3 As String
Dim r4 As String
Dim r5 As String
Dim r6 As String

Now, this code isn't working I suspect because the Copy and PasteSpecial Functions don't work the way I wish to.
I have 3 worksheets in one workbook. I need to extract 10 random rows of information from about 193 rows in sheet 1, and post it in sheet 2 and I can't seem to find a way to make this happen correctly.

I have created a database of names & addresses from a software program called "CLIP" into excel, which in turn will become a label mail merge in MS word consisting of 900-1000 customers (for a mass mailing).
The problem is, the names were created last, first and I would like to change them to first last. Is there a way to do that without manually typing them all in again?
The names are in one column, so I cannot just switch the columns around.
I try to code some vba here's my example
1 A B C D
2 3 5 1 2
3 1 2 0 1
4 1 3 0 1
5 1 0 0 0

I need to count the frequency/occurance of strings "Manager", "Clerk", "HR" etc. that occur in the exact same column in multiple worksheets of a single workbook. COUNTIF works ok on a single sheet query but the formula is getting bigger if there are number of worksheets.
simplyfing the formula. Also is there anyway to put the formula on the column instead of row wise. I can use a single formula on the column instead on every row in Adminsheet.
To be clear my requirement is to count the occurrence of a search strings listed in Adminsheet column A across all worksheets and display count in Adminsheet column B
I use excel 2003 SP3. I've created invoices that have several (very basic), but different formulas in the last column of the worksheet. I have the same customers every month so I use the same monthly workbook for all invoices. Since each invoice has the same formulas, in the same cells, I used the SHIFT key while selecting the entire range of worksheets (invoices). After they have been selected, I entered the SUM formula in a cell so it would automatically be entered in all of the worksheets (invoices).
When I select the same cell in all the worksheets (invoices) I can see that the formula is there. However, when I enter a value that the formula should be adding, it doesn't. But if I select the cell with the formula in it, the formula shows in the formula bar. When I put my cursor at the end of the formula and hit ENTER, the formula then works. So I have to select each formula, in each cell, on every worksheet, hit ENTER, and then, if I need to change a value, I have to repeat the process. I am definitely missing something, and I'm sure it's quite obvious and simple.
Can you arrange 2 worksheets in the same workbook so they are side by side, like you can the way you can tile two different workbooks?
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to merge data from all worksheets into one new in the same workbook, see example in attach. There are 5 worksheets in the test workbook. Each worksheet has name of “Sheetx”,X=number of worksheet. Number of Row in each worksheet is uncertain, but it is always less than 35 (I will say it is “safe” range to prevent from missing data). Requirement: Vertically merge data from A1:F35 (including the “blank”) to “TEST”.

I have a workbook with several worksheets in it. One worksheet for each manager. I only want the individual manager to see their individual worksheet and not those for the others. Is it possible to hide the worksheet and unhide it using an individual password, a seperate one for each manager ?
or alternativly, is it possible to hide say the columns and give each manager their own password that only allows them to unhide the columns for their worksheet. I really dont want to have to send out several seperate versions, just sending one workbook but passwording the individual worksheets within it would be ideal.
I have tried to pass the worksheets to another workbook by copying the sheets and passing it to the other workbook with Excel's own tool. Whenever I try this I get an error with the API XML request.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook containing several worksheets I want to copy to a workbook of their own and save under a specific name/password through a macro.
However, I have five difficulties:
1) I want to new workbook to contain only 1 worksheet. So, only the worksheet copied from the original workbook, and no other worksheets.
2) I want to be able to manually select the destination file for the copied workbook, however. This should be the same file for all workbooks.
3) I want the data copied from original worksheet to be ‘pasted as value’ only, so no formulas in the new workbook.
4) I want the new workbook to be read-only. Therefore I want the workbook to be /locked and password protected. So, the password should be only for altering cells, not for opening the workbook. See also point below.
5) Regarding the naming and passwording part I have made a matrix table in a worksheet named: “Rekeningen” (this worksheet is in the original workbook). This table contains three columns:
Column A, cells 40:65, contains the names of the worksheets I want to copy
Column B, cells 40:65, contains the names of the new workbooks
Column C, cells 40:65, contains the passwords of the new workbooks
