View 8 RepliesI have a macro that unprotects a worksheet copies data from that worksheet and pastes it into a newly created and saved workbook. However I have two problems
1) I'm attempting to copy the data from the first workbook by selecting all cells and then when switching to the new workbook, select all cells and the paste special (values) then paste special (formats). This works when recording the macro but when I attempt to run it it bombs out.
Cells.Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, _
SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
2) How do I get the macro to switch back to the workbook it got its data from. The name of the source workbook varies and there may be from 2 to 15 workbooks open. Is there a previous active workbook command? or do I need to create some kkind of temporary value to hold the file name of the source workbook.
I have two pages in the userform. What I was trying to do is that certain textbox (txtDate) needs to be entered on the page1 before going to page2. The user can still select page2 however I want the vba to bring the page back to page1 if the data is missing.
Here is the code:
Private Sub MultiPage1_Change()
If MultiPage1.Value = 1 And txtDate = "" Then
MultiPage1.Value = 0
txtDate .BackColor = &H40C0
End If
It didn't work completely - the tab selection on top was on page1 however all the controls shown are still the controls under page2. I have to manulally click page1.
I also tried MultiPage1.Page(0).Enabled=True but it didn't work either.
Assume I open with Excel 2007 three different Excel workbooks
excel1.xls
excel2.xls
excel3.xls
How can I switch from one Workbook to another?
I found no "open document" menu where all currently opened excel documents are listed.
The only way I found so far is by clicking on another preview in Win 7 Taskbar.
But I guess there must be a way INSIDE Excel as well.
Where can I find (and click) all open excel workbooks/files?
Any shortcut key that allows you to switch between worksheets within the same workbook?
Found the shortcut - CTRL and Page Up / Page Down
I have the code below but instead of defining the full name of the workbook which will change as different versions are created, can I get VBA to switch to that workbook using the partial name "Actuals Repository" and a wildcard? OR if possible for excel to just attempt to open the file, realise it is open, dont open another copy and skip the notification that usually pops up asking if you would like to open the file again.
Sub IsItOpen()
Dim Response As Integer
Response = MsgBox(prompt:="Is the Actuals repository already open?", Buttons:=vbYesNo)
If Response = vbYes Then
Windows("Actuals Repository*.xls").Activate
End If

I am trying to make one of my macros open a file then switch back to the orignal file and then running the macro.

I have created a very long switch statement, which is too long to be placed in one row in VBA. I have attempted to put a space and underscore at the end of one line and continue the statement on the row below by placing a comma at the start of the second line. VBA will accept my efforts, but when I run the statement in the immediate window, the following error appears.
"Invalid procedure call or argument"
I understand that there are certain rules where I can split a switch statement onto two lines, yet I do not know what they may be.
I've recently created a macro which takes a .csv file and scrubs the data and dresses it up for a report. I've finally got it running without any problems and have added it individually to 5 different user accounts on my network as an add-in, but need a way to share it across a computer network without allowing others to edit the file.
The report is generated multiple times a day by the different users, none of whom are very computer literate (not that I am much better, myself), and the macro over-writes the old file each time. I've read that it's possible to simply create a shortcut to the file that automatically opens the spreadsheet in read-only format, which would be perfect for what I'm trying to do, but I haven't been able to get it to work so far.
My current shortcut pathway is similar to this:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice15EXCEL.EXE" /R "C:UsersBenDocumentsOT Master.xlsx"
On my computer at work (Windows 7) the shortcut simply opens the spreadsheet so that anyone can edit it, instead of as a read-only file. On my computer at home (I'm trying to experiment) (windows 8.1) it won't even let me save the shortcut, saying I need to provide administrator permission & then cutting to a window that says "access denied".
I won't have the pathway for the actual file I'm trying to create a shortcut for until tomorrow when I get back to work, but I've formatted it essentially the same, directing to the excel.exe file, running the switch "/R", and then directing it to the actual file location.
The ultimate goal is to have multiple people be able to view the file without locking out those who need to update it.
I am having some trouble writing a code for a macro that moves data between documents.
The document that I transfer data from is an excel extract from a survey, so everytime I have to run the macro, it is with a new document with a new name.
I can get so far as to move the first cell information into the other specified workbook, but I cannot get the macro to return to the the first document (the one where the name changes with every use).
This code snippet works when executed from a worksheet (it puts Menu Bar back) but returns an error when used in the This Workbook module.
Application.CommandBars("Worksheet Menu Bar").Enabled = True
CommandBars("ToolBar List").Enabled = True
CommandBars("Ply").Enabled = True
I have a userform, when using the form it has focus, once I click on my "Ok" command button I want to return focus to the workbook while I leave the userform open. I already have the userform open and on top of the workbook.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a macro running in a workbook that gathers some data (a date, a string and a few arrays). Towards the end of this macro, I need it to open another workbook and run a macro that sits in this other workbook, using the data from the first workbook. I then need it to return some results (several integers) back to the first macro to be pasted into the first workbook.
I gather that I can't use 'Call' as the second macro is in another workbook.
I've found that I can use Application.Run but I'm unsure how to carry variables back and forth using this.
How to move the variables between macros / workbooks using the Application.Run option, or maybe another way of doing things?
I have a layout something like the following:
A1
A2
A3
[Code]....
Where each (i.e., A1) represents a location. I have tried to use a coordinate system but this will not work for the back-to-back locations. (Assuming each location is 2 feet wide, For example A1 to C1 is 4 feet apart, not 2 feet (as Euclidean or rectilinear would calculate it as).
Would there be a way to incorporate an if statement for those locations that are back-to-back? As a rectilinear distance calculation would work as long as the locations are not part of the same "block".
Ultimately I am looking to have a matrix which contains all the distances between each location:
A1
A2
A3
B1
[Code].....
How to move the data from the back column to the front as below
A
B
C
2
3
1
3
1
2
to
A
B
C
2
3

I have a workbook that is doing something I don't understand. In several places I am using arrays to transfer/modify information, then placing the array back onto the worksheet, and this works perfectly. The following code... doesn't.
(I've cut out unnecessary code like variable declarations - all my integer items are declared as Long)
Code:
Dim varA As Variant, varB(10000, 1) As Variant
Set wkDest = Sheets("a")
erB = 0
For lpTerm = 1 To 4
[Code]...
and several other ways. What happens is just null output, a full column of nothing. However, when I expand my worksheet range to two columns, all the data from varB appears - it is shifted down one column and row. So my data starts at .cells(2,2) instead of .cells(1,1). The data is all perfect, I've verified it left and right.... I just can't figure out why it's getting shifted like this.
I have a list of web address in column A. All of the web address belong to the same site and are different products at the store. I want to be able to some how launch the sites and have Excel copy the text string which follows the word "PRICE:" on the site back into Excel into the corresponding cell of column B.
View 3 Replies View RelatedScenario: I have a worksheet full of ~360 tasks. Tasks are broken down into phases, have owners, and have status'. I leverage a pivot table to easily sort my data by owner, or by status. When reviewing the pivot table with others we want to update the raw data. This entails changing worksheets and scrolling to the task in question.
I'm looking for an easier way to update the raw / original data.
Options I've tried to pursue but have come up empty:
Option 1: Excel modification? Is there a setting in Excel 2007 that would allow me to change a value in my pivot table and have it propagate to the original data set (another Excel worksheet)? So far the answer seems to be "no". Is this possible?
Option 2: Hyperlink from Pivot Table to Raw data field.
- I cannot create hyperlinks within PivotTable data cells.
- I have used the "hyperlink()" function OUTSIDE of my pivot table, along w/ a "match()" on a key field in my pivot table to create hyperlinks back to my raw data... But this is prone to breaking.
- Is there a way to enable hyperlinks from within a Pivot Table? I have seen other requests from individuals that had a pivot table with actual hyperlinks (e.g. [URL]...) and they could not 'activate' them.
Option 3: Tool Tip VBA Form w/ Link?
- If I can't create hyperlinks directly in the table, then how about a function so then when i click (mouse over?) a pivot table cell a form appears with a hyperlink back to the source data?
Option 2 and 3 Assume that there's an way to get at the underlying location of the raw data (e.g. "Pivot Table Worksheet!E10" comes from "RawData!C4". I've dug through some VBA documentation at Microsoft.com but came up empty. I know this link must exist behind the scenes - In Excel 2007 when you mouse-over a pivot table cell Excel displays: "Row - Phase - Owner - Status", which is directly out of the raw data table/worksheet. [[This was an incorrect assumption... When i looked at the pivot table tool-tip closer I realize it was just walking through my data :'( row.
What is the VBA Code to revel the source cell? If i can get at that data, (and hyperlinking can be turned on w/in the pivot table...) then I can easily write a script to walk through the pivot table and create links back to the raw data... Not a perfect solution - but it takes away the need to search through the source data for the row I want.
I am attempting to navigate to a webpage using IE. I have been successful at getting to the appropriate webpage.
However, I would like to open a link within the webpage in the browser in another window(Which is an image). Copy the image then paste it back into excel. I have been successful at opening the webpage using a Userform.
Code:
Sub Anthro()
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Set ie = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
With ie
.Visible = True
[Code] .......
The user input number for example:
If the user inputs the number 25423310 into the txtbox then it navigates to a certain webpage.
On this webpage and all other webpages where different #'s are used are very similar. The number (25423310) is always used to identify an image. However it has more characters. For example the image is always on line 30 of the HTML code. On this example the HTML code lists the image as:
The number used in the txtbox to naviagete to the URL Ex: 25423310) is always within line 30 of code in HTML. Is it possible to run a query or parse this line of code and direct ie to open this image in a new window then copy and paste it based on the criteria of the user input? Ex. 25423310?
Code:
Sub PropInfo()
Dim appIE As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
Set appIE = New SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
Dim varTables, varTable

How come in 2013 there does not seem to be an option to "save as" an earlier version of Excel, specifically 2010?
I opened up something from work (2010) at home (2013) and must have refined it (nothing complicated or fancy that 2010 can't do!)
Now it won't open up at work and tells me to reopen and save as the old version.But 2013 won't let me.
I have an excel work book with 6 tabs. I would like to have Excel move an entire row from one tab to another tab (removing the row and inserting it in the other tab). I.e. Example I have a tab with items that are marked as "Open Actions" so if I were to change the drop down to close. Excel would move that entire row of actions to the tab with the "closed actions" and insert into the next available row. Now if someone were to come back at a later date say no it should be reopened than I would change the drop down to open and excel would move that row back to the open actions tab into next available row. I tried a PIVOT table and no good I played with few macro and not.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Excel 2010 and I applied a Data Filter to a simple table. I then messed around with the drop downs in each column, sorting the data by different criteria. After doing this, is there a simple way to get the table to revert back to its original order/form?

I have created a database of names & addresses from a software program called "CLIP" into excel, which in turn will become a label mail merge in MS word consisting of 900-1000 customers (for a mass mailing).
The problem is, the names were created last, first and I would like to change them to first last. Is there a way to do that without manually typing them all in again?
The names are in one column, so I cannot just switch the columns around.
I try to code some vba here's my example
1 A B C D
2 3 5 1 2
3 1 2 0 1
4 1 3 0 1
5 1 0 0 0
I want to sum in line 2 all values below but i dont know how to switch to next collum in vba
have been using the simple formula below to determine between a friend and myself whos turn it is next.

The setup here is I have multiple codes for a product. Coding structure is as follows (options are contained in parantheses):
N -(T,P) - (5L,6,7,8) - (DFL,DJL,DBL,UEDF) - P - (1,6,9,16,19,1H,1H9) - (g,s,blank) - (a,blank)
Clearly, there are a ton of options. What I'm doing is screening those codes and breaking them down into their component parts.
ex) NT6UEDFP1a: N - T - 6 - UEDF - P - 1 - a
ex) NT6DFLP16: N - T - 6 - DFL - P - 16
I'm trying to do multiple if/then scenarios for each option. However, the way I have it now, I'm getting a FALSE when I switch between these two examples (the dfl works, the uedfp generates false). (there are other codes which is why the first line is there. I'm just having trouble with this particular "nt/np" group)
=IF(OR(LEFT($A$14,2)="np",LEFT($A$14,2)="nt"),
IF(OR(MID($A$14,4,3)="dfl",MID($A$14,4,3)="dbl",MID($A$14,4,3)="djl"),[code].....
I have several phone numbers that I copy and paste from the web:
I.E:
(888) 456-7890
(333) 234-5678
I need to switch all of them to just standard numbers: They should look like this:
8884567890
3332345678
I go to "format" - "cells" - "numbers" but nothing works. I wonder if any formula can do it. It should work for ALL THE LIST, I want something else than change them one by one by hand.
I have made a little program for a customer at work which has 4 different worksheets.
Each worksheet works out a cost based on different prices.
I would like to make a 'Welcome' worksheet, with buttons on it so my customer can click the button which corresponds to the option he would like to cost, and then excel automatically selects that worksheet.
how to create buttons but don't know the code to but behind it. It would be nice to also hide the other 3 worksheets when they have not been selected by the welcome page.
Is there a way to use a switch statement with a default value, for when none of the expressions evaluate to TRUE?
