Unmerge But Retain Value In All Cells

I have a question/problem on using Unmerge in VBA. I have a spreadsheet that in Column J has some cells/rows that are merged. I need to unmerge these cells. Not all rows have this merge, so I think there would need to be some sort of IF statement or something...but I'm not sure how to go about it.
I can say that if, for example, cell J19 is merged, it would be with K and L. Then maybe, J24 with K24 and L24 are merged. Then maybe J27 with K27 and L27....and so on. For the most part the sheet would have about 200 rows of data. But only would I find about 20 or so of these merged cells. I also have 19 excel files to do this to, or otherwise, I would just do it quick and dirty, manually-style.
As an added task, once the cells are unmerged I'd like to take the value found in cell O19 (same row as where the merge was found) and copy it into L19.
I have read the posts regarding merged cells and understand they should be avoided, but I am working with spreadsheets created by others. My problem is that I need to sort the data, but some of the cells are merged so it won't work. Is there a macro command to easily find the merged cells and unmerge them?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any quick and easy way to unmerge merged cells and put the merged cell value in all the merged cells. For example, if I have A6:A15 merged together and its value is "FirstMerge" then I would like to unmerge all A6:A15 and then put "FirstMerge" in all the cell A6,A7,A8 etc. etc. upt oA15. I have lot of these merged cells in a sheet and I get this every month and makes any data processing very difficult. A macro or VBA code or any other solution will be fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook with multiple worksheets. On some of those worksheets a have merged cells, so in order to paste new data I need to unmerge them first. Below is the code that I wrote for it. However it doesn’t work and returns “Run-time error '1004': Application-defined or object-defined error”. I looked at this post List Maximum Value From Each Worksheet and tried adding With – End With, but it failed too. As far as I understood the problem is that the Worksheets/Sheets object does not support UnMerge property, but I may be wrong. If I add ws.Activate line (test2) everything works fine.
However I was wondering if there is a way to do it WITHOUT activating the worksheets.
Sub test1()
Dim i As Integer, ws As Worksheet
For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
Select Case ws.Name
Case "5 - Top Network Facilities", _
"5b - Top Arb Facilities"
For i = 0 To 9
ws.Range(Cells(2 + i * 5, 1), _
Cells(6 + i * 5, 1)).UnMerge
Next i
Case Else
End Select
Next ws
End Sub
In the attached document, there are some cells which have been merged. For instance the cells A4 thru A7 were merged as one field. if you examine B4 which is actually made up of B4 thru B7 the data contained therein is 123. Is there a way to unmerge these merged cells and have the value (in this case 123) appear in each line of the unmerged cells? If you right click and click unmerge, it unmerges okay but does not populate each line with the data which was on the original field.

Input Sheet shows the Data I have at present
Output Sheet is the desired result.
I need a macro which should create an "Output" sheet by doing the following on the Input Sheet
1)Insert a Blank Column before Column A
2)Unmerge the Region Heading and insert the respective Region Name in the newly inserted Column. Region Heading will be in Bold Font.
3)Repeat Step 2 for all Regions
4)Delete the Rows which was merged.
Please note that the number of Data Rows will vary for each Region.
I have shown two Regions for explanation purpose only. There will be several Regions in reality.
The result is shown on the Output sheet

I had been trying to calculate cells that contain numbers with leading zeros.
I can't convert the cells to TEXT because Formulas don't work in TEXT Cells.
I cant use Custom Formatting because the rows may contain different number of leading zeros.
Also Is there a way that I can trim the numbers from Col A and put them in C?
Currently I don't like having to change the RIGHT(G2, 3) to RIGHT(G2, 4)
if the number is smaller than the number of char. option.
I have a number in A1, another number in B1, a Date in C1. In D1, I am referencing all 3 of the other cells: =CellA1 & "-" & CellB1 & "----" & CellC1. Trouble is the date is coming through as a number. Is there a way that I can get the date to show as displayed as opposed to the value of the cell?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have managed to retain leading zeros in a cell by formatting the cell and selecting Number and Custom and adding the maximum number of zeros I want to have in front of the number in the cell i.e. 000002.
I want to have another cell in the spread sheet which contains the value 35394000002 using the formula =A24&B24.
When I use this formula I get 353942. How can I retain these zeros?
"Get rid of merged cells!"
You can read it often on this Board.
I will not open any debate on the subject, but just want to provide a solution to get rid of them automatically. Anybody who likes can refer to this thread.
WARNING
This code is changing layout.
1. Could take a while when you have sheets with large used range or a lot of merged cells. You can follow the status and can interrupt it if you want.
2. Save before executing. I'm quite sure it works good, but the result might be something else then you had in mind, especially when you are quite new to this.

Can we unmerge a complete address in seperate seperate coloumns? Like Complete address is "1st Floor, 2a Harrison Road, Erdington, West Midlands, B24 9AA" and i want to split it like Address[1] "1st Floor" , Address[2]: "2a Harrison Road", Address[3]: "Erdington"...
Is there is any formula which can split data with the help of seperators (Comma or space) ??
I have a protected sheet to avoid delete of functions. In a specific area, however, i have merged cells of five columns in rows. Because in these lines i have write some text and overcomes the rows, after, what i do is: i unmerge the rows and choose 3 rows from 5 columns together and merge. Thus, the text is in one framework. In fact, every time, i want to merge different regions, but always i want to merged any areas who have marked with the mouse. Then, i delete the text and i need to redo the context of three lines, three separate lines. I hope you understand what i need.MergeAndUnMerge.xlsm
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a worksheet which is a form which feeds into another worksheet which acts as a database. i have a button which clears the form based on code which is essentially "clear contents".
the problem is i have a few cells where i would like to retain the formulas. i tried to do this with custom in validation but this did not work. i also tried to enter the code directly into the worksheet but this didnt work either (my skills are limited..). i am avoiding using protect sheet bc that in turn will affect many of my other buttons. is there something i am overlooking?
I am building a large Userform and I am going back to edit some of the controls (renaming, resizing, etc). The problem is, after editing, the changes don't stick. I can open another module and then open the form again and the changes will be gone. I can save Excel, close the file, and open it again, and the changes will be gone.

How do I go about automatically chopping off the number, the dot and the space before the text, but retaining all formattings?
I'm concatenating data in 5 cells (Author, Year, Title, City, Publisher), one of which is in italics (Title). When using concatenate (or &) the formatting is removed, and I need to be able to retain that formatting.

I need a solution so that each day I can get a value from a single cell but it appears in a new column each day.
eg, A1 contains a numerical value (based on a formula)
Each day there is a new column, say, Monday = B1, Tuesday = C1 etc.
On Monday B1 takes the value of A1 and 'freezes' the value in B1
On Tuesday C1 takes the value of A1 and 'freezes' the value in C1, but the value in B1 remains as it was when it was originally frozen.
I have a quantity column on an inventory sheet which automatically updates the available quantity based on sales from a sales sheet. But I need to know the date the quantity reached zero.
That date would always be "today," on the day the quantity = 0, but how do I make the date NOT update to "todays date" on the next day, and the next, etc. It needs to stay as the date that 0 qty was reached.
i am using the following code to put data into a worksheet which it does perfectly. once the data is put into the sheet it is saved. what i want to do next is to retain the data in the userform and possibly change one or two entries and put data back into the sheet to save again
Option Explicit

c.Offset(2, 0).Value = Me.TextBox2.Value
c.Offset(3, 0).Value = Me.TextBox3.Value
c.Offset(12, 0).Value = Me.ComboBox1.Value
Set d = Range("b16").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0)

I am programming some kind of database in excel and using comboboxes as drop down lists to enter some of the information in the DB. My problem is that when the file is saved, closed and then opened again, all of the comboboxes have lost their selection. I think that using the ControlSource might help but for some reason I can't find the proper syntaxe to make it works. Actually I am getting a Run time error 438: This object doesn't support this property or method.
I have included the relevant portion of my code below. Is the ControlSource property going to solve my problem? If so, what is the syntax I must use? If not, what can I do to make sure that my ComboBoxes are going to keep their selection?
ActiveSheet. OLEObjects.Add(ClassType:="Forms. ComboBox.1", Link:=False, _
DisplayAsIcon:=False, Left:=hori_offset - 220, Top:=vert_offset + 78, _
Width:=180, Height:=24.75).Select
With ActiveSheet.OLEObjects("ComboBox1").Object
.Font.Size = 14
.Font.Bold = True
.Style = fmStyleDropDownList 'Use drop-down list
.BoundColumn = 0 'Combo box values are ListIndex values
End With
With ActiveSheet.Shapes("ComboBox1")
.OLEFormat.Object.ControlSource = "Q1"
.OLEFormat.Object.ListFillRange = "M1:M8"

I need to create a variable that will be TRUE/FALSE based upon whether the user has made changes to a certain range without running a specific macro. Basically, if they change cells in a certain range, the 'Update' macro must be run. I want this variable to be False if the cells have changed without running 'Update' and then when 'Update' runs, it sets the variable back to True.
I've been able to make this work with a Public variable, but if the user closes the workbook, the variable resets to False. Is there a way to create a variable that will be remember even if the workbook closes?
I have a list of values which also has duplicates. I want to remove the duplicates but after comparing it to the dates. Retain the latest date and remove the old dates Eg. there are two duplicates, one has a date of 31st Jan 2013 and the other one has a date of 25 jan 2013. I want to remove the duplicate which has the older date ( 25 Jan 2013) and keep the one which has the latest date.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy data has various dates in column A, which I group into months using the formula "=DATE(YEAR(A2),MONTH(A2),1)" in column B. Then I format column B to show the results in the format mmm-yy. So far so good.
I then use a pivot table to count the number of entries for each month and I have formatted the date column the same way. But every time I refresh the data (which I need to do frequently as data floods in from external sources), the format of the pivot table reverts to dd/mm/yyyy and I have to go and manually reformat it again.
I've checked all the options I can think of, but cannot find any way to keep the format as I have set it. Does anybody know of a way?
