Updating Worksheet Data From New CSV File?
Dec 14, 2011
I keep track of returns for my company and I am pulling a CSV file with all of the information on it.
I want to be able to format the info and create new columns for info I enter in to the sheet, and be able to import the updated CSV file into my already formatted sheet.
The part that I am wondering about is, after I import my first CSV file(sheet1) do I need to create another sheet(sheet2) and format sheet2 and have it pull the info from sheet1, then when I update workbook1 the data will update in sheet2?
Or, is there a way to just import the new data a single formatted sheet that I created from the old data and have it just add the new data without messing up any of my formatting?

I've created a spreadsheet which, on running a macro, imports data from a text file, formats it and then sums various parts of it giving me a subset of the large file as a range of data for a chart (a pie chart) on Sheet 2.
The problem begins when I delete the data in the worksheet in preparation for another import - the Pie chart just loses all the data and I have to manually reselect it in the chart each time.
Once deleted the chart is blank, but as soon as the data is imported, I get reference errors when I click on Sheet 2
I must be doing something wrong. You can delete data and repopulate it and the chart should pick up with the new data. If the cells it is referencing are empty, it is blank. Not so here.
Is it to do with importing the data? Or the formula for my chart data?

OK, two files attached in the zipfile, pricelist-half.xls and pricelist-full.xls
The background is that i exported a file from our warehouse system so we could update prices and re-import it. That is the pricelist-half.xls
After our staff had spent a few days working on it, it came to light that (as the name suggests!) its only about half the products that should have been exported that are on the list.
Hence the second file, pricelist-full.xls which as its name suggests is the full
product list.
What I need to happen, to make this as painless as possible, is somehow for the items/rows that are on the full list, but not on the half list to be inserted to the half list but also have a yellow background for their rows so they stand out clearly.

I created a simple custom function called File_Path() using this macro line:
File_Path = ThisWorkbook.Path
I use the function in Cell A1 and it displays the path, but it doesn't automatically update when I change the path. I have to use F2 to get it to update. I have automatic calculation on.

30 people in different countries use a sophisticated VBA Excel file on their local PCs, let's call it myexcelfile.xls. This file contains no custom data, as all data is stored in myexcelfile_backup.xls.
The biggest challenge with this set up is that whenever there is a newer release or bugfix of myexcelfile.xls, I need to send it out per email to 30 people and hope they replace it with my updated version.
Note that newer versions can replace older versions without any data loss, as all data is stored in the backup file.
Idea: with tools like WGET or BITSADMIN, I was thinking of creating a batch file, that would simply download the latest version from a FTP server, and replace the older version with the newly downloaded one.
Constraints: I shouldn't be using any software that is not native to Windows 7the files can sit in different folders on these 30 computers, therefore the update mechanism would have to identify the path they are in.the update mechanism would have to close the file first before running the update. Question: What is the best way to go about this? A DOS Batch file? Or another excel file that is just the "updater", meaning, it's only purpose is to download the new file from the web and overwrite the old file?

I've been trying to make this work for hours and hours and am finally giving up. Most of this code was found on the internet and I've attempted to make it work for my project but I keep getting errors. I use VBA with Excel quite often but never with Access before. Currently I am getting an "Object doesn't support this property or method" error at rs.Findfirst.
I have an excel worksheet that mimics the access table with five fields, an ID field, lastName, FirstName, DeptID (int), Email. I want to search the Access table for a match on the email field, and if it doesn't find the match, to add a new record using values typed into the excel sheet.
Code:
Sub UpdateDB()
Dim cn As Object
Dim rs As Object
[Code]....

I have one work sheet (worksheet #1) that everyone in the company uses. With this worksheet they submit orders to my department.
When I receive it (worksheet #1) I have a macro built in so that all i have to do is click a button and the sheet get's logged onto a certain workbook (workbook #1) on the appropriated tabbed sheet.
On my log workbook (workbook #1) I have two tabed sheets "2005" and "2007", and all of the worksheet#1's go to the next line on "2007"
On occasion a sales person will open up an old worksheet and the macro will log it onto "2005".
I want to create a macro for (workbook #1) that goes something like this:
If any files attempt to write to sheet "2005"
do not allow or (False)
move line item to sheet "2007" to the next open line.

Here is my scenario:
4 step process or more?
1)I have a text file (with delimiters) that I want to be copied over to an existing workbook (because of the header)
2)So now I have a temporary workbook that includes the header and the data from the text file. I want this temporary data to be transferred or copied to a sheet in another workbook(s), wipe out previous data and store the new one. Save the workbook(s) and close.
3)Close temporary file. Don't save.
4)I want this process to be automated -- run it daily everyday at say, 6:30 in the morning.

I have work sheet where certain cells are updating constantly
the cells are D7, D10, D13, D16, D19, D22....... all the way down to D60
Now the values in these cells are changing every few seconds..... what I'd like to do is track the direction the cells are moving in a seperate sheet.
Lets say the cells displayed the following values for example:
D7=2.5
D10=3.4
D13=5.9
D16=8.2
D19=11.6
D22=13.8
D25=16.1

I currently have a code that copies (when both workbooks are open) the status report tab from one workbook to another. So, my code copies the entire "Status" tab from Report.12102012.xlsx to Master_Report.xlsx.
But, there will continually be new Report.(DATE).xlsx files that are being made and I would like for my code to be able to search for the newest date "Report" spreadsheet, open it (so employee doesn't have to find the newest spreadsheet), and then copy the "Status" tab to my Master_Report.xlsx file.
All of the "Report.(DATE).xlsx" files will be stored in the same folder.

Is it possible to have a macro that will (a) first prompt the user to select an excel file to import (the excel files to import are provided each month and only have one tab); then (b) select which worksheet to import the data (values only) from the selected file into.

I have a text file with no discernable format ( can't import into excel) that is too large to put all the data into an excel worksheet. This file is made to print out on a network printer.
I don't need all the info in the file, I would like to specify a variable, search the text file for the variable, then specify the amount of rows down to look for the data value and input the result into an excel spreadsheet.

I have created a pivot table that is connected to an input sheet with data. The input sheet retrieves data automatically from a external source through an add-in to Excel. When updating data the fields expands, but only for the items which have been changed. I want the table to be updated automatically, but not the fields expand automatically. Is there any pivot options to prevent this problem?
It should be mentioned that the pivot table is not directly connected to the input sheet (which is updated from the external source), but from a "help-sheet" reflecting the input sheet with some additional columns. I use conditional formatting and name range in the pivot.

Actually i've downloaded Tracking report of my SPO and this report is on 4-5 csv files (1 file per week). I have to gather data from these 4 files into one Worksheet. I have to do this with command button on my worksheet; with Open file dialogue box (i want to locate the csv files).
CSV files are something like that (I need only first 4 columns):
ABCDE1Name MSISDN Date Location MapLink 2M. Younus Safi "923***550577" "2011-10-07 20:36:18" "ACB Tower Badragah Chakwal. Badraga" "http://asdf.com" 3M. and my Worksheet is like that (With a command Button):
I want to import first 3 columns of csv file on first 3 columns on my worksheet; leave 2 columns blank and then import the 4th column... now for example i have done importing data from 1st csv file and the data is on 50 rows.. i click the command button again, locate the 2nd csv file.. do the same thing (import 1st 3 columns, 2 blank, then 4th) --from 51st Row-- and so on...

I have a Workbook that already has a macro in it that will generate multiple sheets based on certain criteria.
For each of these newly generated sheets (numbered 1-6 in the attached example), I need to be able save each of them to a PDF file based on a unique name contained in a certain cell (in this case, each named is referenced in cell Q1 of each sheet). As such, I should end up with 6 pdfs based on the attached sample files.
The PDFs would ideally need to be landscaped and should be just 1 page per sheet.
In my attached sample workbook, you'll notice that I have a "PracticePrint" macro that doesn't quite get the job done. One other criteria involves not printing any sheet with the characters "1010" in it (my PracticePrint macro is setup to do that, but it fails to do much else).

I have a workbook. I want to write a macro that takes cells A16:G16 on sheet "Calc" and to update the list on the sheet "POSITIONS". This is done by using the cell A16 (on "Calc") and looking up the "A" column on sheet "POSITIONS" for a match, then replacing the new values from the "Calc" on the "POSITIONS" sheet. If no match is found I would like to add the new data at the bottom of the sheet. The maxium number of entries (rows) on sheet "POSITIONS" will be 300.

I am working with Microsoft Excel 2003. I am trying to import(or something
like it) from worksheet (A) to worksheet (B). Worksheet A is a spreadsheet
that I have saved to keep the same row names, etc. but the information within
the named cells is forever changing. I also save the information from
worksheet A, but have another copy that when I open, it always opens without
any changed data in it. MY question/problem is that I need to import the
data from A to B, and every time that A changes, I need B to automatically
update the data and continuously add to the spreadsheet I have made up for B.
I can NOT have A overwrite any data that I have already put into B.

I need a formula that let me change the value in column B with the value from column D. But to do the change I have to check that the value in column C is equal to the value in column A. If a value from column A is not present in column C (like 1002 in the example), the value in column B wont change. The values in columns A and C are alphanumeric, the values in columns B and D are numeric.
For example:
Column A Column B Column C Column D
1001 2 1001 4
1002 1 1003 5
1003 0 1004 1
1004 2
The columns A and B should end like this (Changed):
1001 4
1002 1
1003 5
1004 1
