VBA Loop - Remove Single Character From Cell String Then Calculate New Value In Cell

Mar 1, 2012

I have a string of text in cell A2. In cell B2 of my spreadsheet is a formula that calculates a number based on the text string in cell A2.

I want to write a VBA loop that removes a single character from the cell A2 string, then calculate the new value in cell B2. I want this loop to continue until the value in B2 falls below a set value (in this case 60).

My code so far
Sub trim_text()
Dim mytext As String
Dim myanswer As Integer
mytext = Range("A2")
myanswer = Range("B2")
Do While myanswer > 60
mytext = (Right(mytext, Len(mytext) - 1))
Loop
End Sub

This obviously does not work. In my excel table I have a formula in cell B2 to calculate "myanswer" will this work, or does that code have to be placed into the VBA code?

Text String To Single Character Array?

There is a method to use ROW(1:10) within an array formula to strip a string into individual elements e.g.

HELLO > {"H","E","L","L","O"}

I cannot find it anywhere, thought it was something like =MID(A1,ROW(1:10),1) but not yielding results.

Add Single Character Before & After Each Cell Value In Column

Jan 27, 2009

I am trying to do is put an asterisk at the beginning and the end of the Information in a cell for the entire column. Is there a way to make a macro that, once I highlight a column, it will put an asterisk at the beginning and end of the information in each cell in that column until a blank cell is reached where the macro will then stop? This will save me a lot of work. It will work for me if a particular column has to be defined in the macro, but would be better if it is one I can just highlight.

This would also work fine for me if I just had to highlight the cells that I want to use as well. Sorry if this seems to be a stupid question, but I am a very novice excel user

Fill Cell With Single Character

Nov 27, 2006

I would like to enter an X or O into a square cell so that it completely fills the cell.

I want to eliminate the space between the text character and the cell border.

The character does not necessarily have to be text so long as it can be automatically entered into the cell by a macro and can also be deleted by a sub routine to refresh the worksheet for new data.

I created autoshapes for a cross and a circle but I have no idea how to substitute these for the text characters in the worksheet or delete them afterwards.

VBA To Remove / Delete Based Off Single Criteria Without Loop

I'm okay with Excel, but I'm just getting into utilizing VBA and I've been searching high and low for a simple VBA code that will remove/delete rows based off a single criteria without loop as there are over 40,000 rows. I tried a couple that I found onilne, and adapting them to my criteria range, but no luck. (All the ones that I found that work use loop and it takes about 15 mins to run through the entire spreadsheet)

I would like to maintain my first row as it's my headers. My single criteria is to remove all rows that have "NO" in column D.

Ignore Character String That Matches Another Cell

I have a cell that contains a string of characters that were combined from two different cells. What would the formula be for excel to ignore the characters that are from one of the cells? In other words, if cell A1 contains ABCD123 and cell A2 contains XYZ (the length of the string in A2 varies in length), the combined string is ABCD123XYZ. In cell B1 I would like excel to ignore the contents of cell A2. This seems simple but I'm not coming up with the right syntax.

String Separating Single Cell

Feb 3, 2010

I am trying to write a simple code for some project management/scheduling spreadsheet in my office. We have projects with multiple people working at one time.

I store all names in an array and compare those values to the cells containing the various names. It works when only one person is named, i.e. only [CR], but with multiple people, it doesn't read the data, i.e. [CR, NS, MR], that is separated by commas.

Is there a command to recognize the first two characters and compare them to something, then characters, 5&6, and 9&10, so forth....?

I tried to use the with characters command that help says will take the "3rd character space and make the font bold" but it doesn't recognize my inequality.

String Length Too Long For Single Cell On Imported Data

Sep 13, 2013

I have a google earth KML file that I have converted to text, and through a bunch of manipulation have been able to pull a series of GPS coordinate strings into a single cell string. Unfortunately, the string data is beyond what excel 2007 can handle for a single cell. so my thought is to have excel pull each coordinate string into a separate cell with which i can then run a macro to develop a new KML dynamically. (changing multiple attributes based on a query to a database)

Each string of coords actually maps out a single region (path) on the KML, truth be told it is telecom rate center data, and each rate center will have numerous other variables applied to it depending on my company's voice network capability for a given rate center. Currently my only desire is to depict differently any rate centers that I'm able to deliver VOIP services to by showing them in a different color...but these change very often so it will support to be able to auto generate the map from time to time.

the raw data from the KML looks like this:

Code:

CLINTONVL

RATE_CNTRCLINTONVL
STATEPA]]>

ff000000
1
0
1

[Code] ..........

After doing my data import, i extracted via various manipulations, the rate center name (a common lookup value that stays constant across multiple databases), and the string of coordinates. this is where i run into trouble. i need to pull each coord into a separate cell assuming i won't run out of cells in the x coordinates to gather this data OR find a way to grab the data via another lookup to another document...not desireable.

I want my output to look like:

Code:
RC_NAMECOORDSLATAVoip?
ALIQUIPPA
80.334114,40.520974,0-80.327493,40.520023,0-80.323915,40.51957,0-80.31997800000001,
40.519933,0-80.316958,40.521221,0-80.314431,40.521445,0-80.314262,40.521332,0-80.31398,
40.521194,0-80.31315600000001,40.520832,0-80.313057,40.520794,0-80.312805,40.520641,

[Code] ........

First off, my import was jacked up by missing some comma's...this i can fix easily with the string importation and manipulation HOWEVER...i still run into the issue of string length OFTEN.

Alpha String Formula - Remove Duplicates When Starting In Cell Going Downward

Aug 22, 2013

I have a string of letters in cell column L20 through L3019.

The letters are A, B, C, and R . No other letters.

I wanted to find out if it is possible to remove any duplicates when starting in cell L20 going downward.

For example:

L20 = B
L21 = A
L22 = A
L23 = B
L24 = C
L25 = C
L26 = C
L27 = C
L28 = B
L29 = R
L30 = A
L31 = C
L32 = C
L33 = C
L34 = R
L35 = R
L36 = B
L37 = B

In the range L20 through L37 all the letters have appeared so my goal is to create a formula where the outcome is BACR. Starting with the first letter B in cell L20

Cell range L20 through L37. Looking for the next letter which would be either A,C, or R. Since we already used the letter B. In this case it's the letter A
ABCR

Cell range L20 through L37. Looking for the next letter which is the C or R. In this case it's the letter C
CBRA

Finally range L20 through L37. Looking for the letter R which is in cell L29.
RACB

Control That Allows Single Character Formatting

Oct 5, 2007

When I try to add the Richtextbox control, I get this error: "The control could not be created because it is not properly licensed." Since I'm in a corporate setting, I don't think I can get around this (since I don't have access to the computer's registry and several users will be using it). I have figured out a way to present the user with some rich text controls (Bold, Italics, Underline, Font, Color, etc), which will add special characters around the selected text which then is interpreted by a procedure and formats the text in the output destination (HTML document).

However, that tends to clutter up the textbox and makes it somewhat cumbersome for some users to edit the text. I'd prefer to have them see the formatted text in the textbox, if possible. So, is there a way to get some sort of Rich Text Box without the RichTextBox control? It's long shot, I know.
