I was given a spread sheet with a number of payments on it, I was asked to take the "four" potential payments and only show one total payment. There are 2900 lines in my file and as you can see from the example the scenario repeats it self with the "four" payments all the way to the bottom. I would like to be able to add H2 to H5, total that number in J2 and delete row 3,4 and 5. This then has to be continued all the way down to line 2878 where I could then run a macro I have to delete blank rows cleaning my spreadsheet up. I would take a looping or user controlled macro (ctrl +) so I don't have to do this manually.

I have two columns where there are dates (e.g. 11/05/2009) in a date format; I would like to change the format to `general`; but without losing the original values, i.e. I still want to see 11/05/2009, but just in `general`format. Is it possible to create a macro that will do that? I want these values to stay in the same place, i.e. if it is in cell K10, I still want to have it there - just in other format.

I have a group of cells in E2:E4 that are 144.00 in, 240.00 in, and 72.00 in and are formatted as general.

I get these values when I export data from an AutoCAD program to Excel and I want to sum these values to get the total length.

I want to sum the three values and have the result be the same (i.e., ###.## in). The number of values can go to 30, so I need a simple line of code, =SUM(???)

I have a cell that is constantly being changed from a date to a number. Excel automatically formats the cell as a date when a date is entered but if I re-enter a number it leaves the format as a date.

Is there anyway to automatically change the format back to general if a date is not entered.

I had this bit of code obviously it dosent work.

If Target.Cells.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub If Not Intersect(Target, Range("E8:E46")) Is Nothing Then If IsDate(Target.Value) Then Target.NumberFormat = "d/mm/yy;@" Else Target.NumberFormat = "General" End If End If Cancel = True

My excel recently the General number format so that when the general number fomat is used and I type a number in a blank cell with the general format, the number is always divided by 10.

E.g., I enter "102", the number is automatically improperly converted to 1.02. However, if I enter "=102", the number is properly entered as 102.

How can I reset the General format to the original setting without this divide by 100 problem?

I used the formatting wizard to make all dates the format of dd/mm/yyyy but, now, when I put a date in the column it throws up a number '41313' instead of a date, even if I manually input the date in the same format as above.

Also, I have tried to turn cells back into general number fields, but this doesn't appear to be changing it back to a date format..

There are HUNDREDS of dates I might have lost if I can't get them to start showing as dates again!

I use software that exports date/time stamps in the format of: MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss.s I like to keep the data in this general format so that we can keep it consistent and it can be useful to others using other software. I recently had to do some date/time stamp manipulations where I added 61 days to a dataset because the data was erroneously set to a diferent calendar. (Still don't know how that happened but it isn't relevent to this issue) When I set up a formula to add 61 days, it appears that it automatically converted it to the excel serial date/time format before adding the 61 days. Now I have a column of data that is mostly general format but has this portion in serial format. How can I get the serial format changed back to general so that the entire column is in the same format?

I have a table with 5 columns and approx. 85-90 rows.

Column A has the Branch name in it e.g. Beavers or Bedfont (11 Branches in total) Column B has User Type - Adult, Child, Guest (Adult), Guest (Child), Catalogue Column C has Session Type - Booking, Drop-In Column D has Total Session Time (mins) - which gives a number in minutes of the total session time used Column E is not needed

I currently get a calculator and add up e.g all of the adult Bookings for Beavers and enter them onto a Report Sheet, then all of the Adult Drop-Ins for Beavers etc. I want an Excel Spreadsheet that will give me a total number for each so I can do away with the calculator.

I am thinking of creating a new sheet with a number of cells that have a formula similar to this

Using Excel 2010 - I have a large workbook with multiple worksheets - been using it succesfully every day for a long time. All of a sudden every empty cell, and any cell not specifically formated in every worksheet has a default cell format of Time. Any new workbook created is OK.. defaults to 'General' - But, if I add a new blank worksheet to this particular workbook it defaults to 'Time' format. How did the default cell format for this workbook become set to 'Time' from 'General' and how do i fix it?

I have a procedure that allows me to view and make changes to data in a table. I list the current values for the item in one column and use simple formula to copy that value to another column where if there are changes that need to be made, the formula is simply overwritten. The Macro is then selected using a command button and the formulas are all overwritten using copy/paste values to keep from writing out the formula to the data table. These values are then all written back to the data table, current values are overwritten with whatever is in the update column, new data or old data.

I have one cell out of 48 that has decided to march to the tune of a different drummer. The format changes from General to Text and the formula written from the macro is what shows up in the cell instead of the value of the formula. Never a big disciplinarian, I have to wonder if I have been too lenient on the cell and this defiance is the price I have to pay.

The sheet is protected only allowing entry into the cells available for update.

Here is the bit of code that affects this cell (starting from a format of General:

Sorry for the question. Normally I find answers to my excel questions by going through the help tab or by searching on Google. However, I don't even know what question to ask on this one!?!

Basically I have created a spreadsheet with several columns, but I have one column that lists the shirt size (YS, YM, YL, AS, AM, AL, XL, 2X, 3X) of each person. Is there a formula that I can create that will tabulate the number of sizes (i.e. AS=2, AM=7, etc.)?

In previous years I made a column for each size, and simply placed a "1" in the correct column, and had excel just add the 1's from each column. However, that takes more time and space. I was hoping to streamline it this time around.

I Have 20:00-04:00 as text in a cell, what i need is to take the 04:00 and show only if its after 00:00 and before 07:00 and show it as time value. This is where I'm up to so far but i don't know how to ask it for > 00:00 and < 07:00.

I'm trying to make an excel formula that generalizes product names based on their format. So the general format would be XYZ08/T13. I know a ? is equal to a general letter, but is their a symbo that specifically means letter or number. I'm running into problems using the ? because the formula ends up identifying additional items that are not products as products.

i have a simple table design with the dates running across the row, below each row i write the name of the person on shift. in the 3rd row i mark the time they are late for work (if any).

below that in a seperate table i have a list of my staff next to that i would like there to be a running total of their lateness. I need a formular that will look for their names and then total any lateness that i have inserted. I have include a basic spreedsheet of what i want to achieve, the column in RED is where i wan the totals.

I run a report from a scheduling software that gives me the total hours and minutes for a weekday for my bus routes. For instance, 253 hours and 23 minutes for one day. Now though, I need to calculate how many hours and minutes for the entire month. The report will only come out with 253h23. I need to somehow take that, turn it into time and then multiply it by 20 (January weekdays). But I need real hours and minutes and I'm having trouble getting them.

I am a teacher and I want a column to turn a particular colour if a pupil has met their target grade and another if they have not. Our grades work as letters A* being the best then descending as follows A, B, C, D, E, F, G, U.

I have a column with the pupil's target grade (one of the above letters) and another column with their current grade. How do I get excel to understand the ranking of the letters and format the current grade column according to whether they have met their target or not?

I have groups of data in a spreadsheet, I need to assign a value in column f for each piece of data in column e. The value needs to be a relative value for the rest of the group. For example if one group of data has 10 rows I need values 1 - 10 in column F, 10 being for the largest value in the respective row in column E and 1 being for the smallest value.

Each group does not have the same number of rows.

If need be I can add blank rows so the space between each group is equal, (if you can tell me an easy way to do this I would appreciate it as theres quite alot of data).

I am producing a spreadsheet that will track returned defects. Column B is where I input the department variable. In a new table on the same sheet I need a formula that will count department names and give me a total for the returns for each department.

I need a formula to know the total specially for each of the numbers in column A. Like for e.g when you see 1 in column A I need to to know the total by adding all the numbers just for 1 in column B. So the total for 1 in this sheet would be 10+85+5=100. So automatically the answer should come as 100.

I have a spreadsheet where I need to take the subtotal from D13, D21 and D 25 and make a total on D26. the same for E & F. I know this has to be very easy but I just can't figure it out.

I want to do a basic formula for a poker account to work out my P/L.

I have two sheets. The first sheet will record my P/L and the second sheet records deposits and withdrawals.

When I input a figure into Sheet 1, Cell A1, I want it to then be able to add to this figure the total that is in Sheet 2, Cell A1. Is this possible? This way the figure that I input into Sheet1, Cell A1 will give me the profit/loss after taking into account any deposits/withdrawals.

ie If in Sheet2, Cell A1 I have a deposit of -500. When I type into Sheet1, Cell A1, a figure of 800, it will then change to 300. It will add 800 less 500 = 300.

[URL] .... If you take a look at the picture, what I'm trying to do is add the list of Prices up so that I can differentiate the amount received in $ and in £.

I need to add up all the numbers that don't have a $ in front into the 1 cell, and all the ones with the $ in front into another cell.
