Concatenate Function To Join Some Text Strings To A Cell On A Different Sheet
Jan 11, 2010
I have been trying to use the concatenate function to join some text strings to a cell on a different sheet - From an input sheet -Sheet 1 named Input, to a Notification Form (Sheet 2). Although the Function Argument display tells me that it will display the result I want it actually displays just the formula. It's a very simple thing
Address 1 10 Downing Street
Address 2 Westminster
Address 3 London
Postcode SW1A 1AA
I want displayed as: 10 Downing Street, Westminster, London, SW1A 1AA in a single merged cell. All I am getting on the Form is =concatenate(Input!c25," ",Input!c26," "Input!c27," "Input!c28). I feel sure that it is a very easy solution but I can't arrive at it!!
I am trying to join text in two different cells using concatenate function / & operator In the combined cell I want the text from second cell to appear in Bold while the text from first cell should continue to remain in normal font. Is there any way i could achieve this?
I have been using the CONCATENATE function to merge 2 strings together into a single cell. However the problem is, the third concatenated cell depends on the other 2 existing. The idea is I want to take 2 columns of data, and use a formula to merge them, then delete the original 2 data columns so I have a single column with the full data merged.
COL 1 (A3) = First Name COL 2 (B3) = Last Name COL 3 (C3) = Full Name (wanted)
So I do =CONCATENATE(A3,B3) and that puts the fullname in C3, but I want to sort of "flatten" C3 so that I have the fullname by itself and I can delete the original cells (A, and B)
I am using the following formula to join several text strings together:
=CONCATENATE(B4,$A$1,C4,$A$1,D4,$A$1,E4,$A$1,F4)
(in the above $A$2 is just a few spaces in order to seperate the test)
I was wondering if there is a way of joing text strings that will align all info properly? Right now it just joiins them together but visually that is not really very appealing.
This is an example of what I am getting: 11 111 1111 11 111 22 2222 22 2222 222 333 33 3333 333 333
This is how I want it: 11 111 1111 11 111 22 2222 22 2222 222 333 33 3333 333 333
I am trying to concatenate multiple strings of text where each may have composite or compound formatting. Is there any way to maintain the formatting? The Characters.Insert method won't work because the resulting string is greater than 255 characters. See an example below.
String 1: When you simply concatenate String 2: these strings, Excel discards String 3: formatting at the character level.
Required Result: When you simply concatenate these strings, Excel discards formatting at the character level.
I have a multipage control on a userform. On Page 8 of that multipage, I have label1, part of that label is modified by other parts of the program. This is done by the program writing to a sheet of Data and then the program pulls that info into this label. My question is,what is the correct format to populate the label? see below: This is what I have in my Userform_Activate and Userform_Initialize subs:
CurrentVersion = Sheets("Data"). Range("N2").Value Label1.Caption = "This will allow you to change the Caption of the UserForms through out the operational program. Some UserForms cannot be changed. The ending of" + Chr(32) + Chr(34) + "Automatic 2005 V" + Chr(32) + CurrentVersion + Chr(34) + Chr(32) + " will be added to what you enter below as default."
CurrentVersion is pulled off of the datasheet which is a number like 5.9.8.2. however it errors "Run time error 13 - type mismatch" I can only suspect the label1.Caption needs something like: Multipage8.label1.caption =
I am looking for a way of creating the following conditioned concatenation.
I have two tables, let's call them "summary" and "detailed".
The "detailed" table is something like the following:
ID VOL
001 01
001 05
[code]....
The "summary" table below gets info from the "detailed" table. The 'ID'is now unique. I'm looking for a formula on the 'VOL (concatenated)' column cells it should get all rows from the "detailed" table with the same ID and then concatenate the 'VOL' column results, comma separated:
ID (unique) VOL (concatenated)
001 V01, V03, V05
002 V01, V04
003 V06
PS: I have people using this table with office 2003, so compatibility is necessary...
I have a marco that works perfects to Concatenate (join) all of the cells in Column A. However, I want to seperately join all of the cells in each column. So I wanted to the Concatenate of Column B to go in B1, Column C to go in C1, etc (or until there is no data in a column). I think there is a way to change this into a loop, but I don't know how. Below is the macro I have now.
Sub ConcatenateAll() Dim x As String, rng As Range, cel As Range With ActiveSheet Set rng = .Range("A2:A300") For Each cel In rng x = x & cel.Value Next .Range("A1").Value = x End With
I am attempting to join together up to 32 arrays. I haven't even managed to join 2! can it be done in excel 2003 VBA? the arrays are 2 dimensional (x Rows, 3 Columns). I have tried this but just produced empty variants:
I have a time in cell C10 in hh:mm format, in cell D10 I want to add the text "DFL" in front of the time, remove the ":" and add "HRS." at the end of it. For example "DFL0715HRS." I have been able to get the following formula to work:
=CONCATENATE("DFL",(TEXT(C10,"hhmm")),"HRS.")
However sometimes it may not be a time, it could also be "Rest Day" in cell C10, if it says "Rest Day" I need it to add the text "DFL" in front as before and then change "Rest Day" to "RDFLEXI." For example "DFLRDFLEXI." I have been able to get the following formula to work but only if it is "Rest Day", if it is a time such as 07:15 it doesn't work.
It shows "DFL07157R0.": =CONCATENATE("DFL",IF(C10="Rest Day","RDFLEXI.",(TEXT(C10,"hhmm"&"HRS."))))
I think it is trying to continue doing something with the text function
I am trying to change the value in a cell by referenceing it to another sheet. My cell is: Today it is 33F, have a nice day. Now, 33F should be called from another cell and should be inserted in this new cell. If I change the 33F in the other cell this change should be reflected in my text file.
what I would like to do is how can I combine 29-Mar-09 and 4-Apr-09 into one cell...I would like the output to be placed in cell A8 appear as "29-Mar-09 to 4-Apr-09".
I have two cells. In cell A1 there is a text "(fi) = " and in A2 a number, for example 30. (fi) means a symbol for diameter (letter "f", using Symbol font). Is it possible to joint those two cells in third cell using formula "=A1&A2", maintaining original fonts? What i get is "f = 30", not "(fi) = 30".
I am writing a macroI have three variables named "name", " book", and "count". In previous statements these variables have all been defined as String, String, Integer respectively. I am trying to uses all of these variables in the same formula and am encountering issues. The formula I wish to use it in is:
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=COUNT('[" & book & "]" & name & "!'""B6:B" & count & ")"
Where if book = Book1 ; name = "Sheet1" ; and Count = 100 I would want the following result: "=COUNT('[Book1]Sheet1!B6:B100)"
This is not related to macro - it's an excel question regarding wrapped-around text within a cell (i.e.: text brought onto next line by <Alt>+<Enter>)...
SayI have the following in a cell : Car<Alt>+<Enter> Truck<Alt>+<Enter> Van
and say I want to add a figure (in this example 1A) to the first part of the cell and then another to the second line of wrapped text and so on. How can I split the cell (or lookup the first 'wrapped' line) so that I can then perform changes (using formulas with '&' to combine etc or whatever) so that in the end cell have the following:
Looking for formula with if then statement that involves a nested formula or concatenation. I need a formula that says: If cell A reads exactly ABCD then concatenate cell A with cell C. Very basic to most of you gurus but I'm fairly new with formulas.
How would I go about counting the number of times TA shows within strings of text in a range within a sheet. Example: TA,MH in cell A2, CB,TA in cell C40, ES,TA in cell Q19. Result would be 3. Ideally, I'd like the formula to reference a cell that has TA as the look up data such as in A1 I'd have TA.
how to Chk the text string in particular cell, compare it with a super set column and get the full from of the text string from another corresponsing column and the output will be corresponsing full form of the chked text string?
Then loop from 1 to RowsNumber and concatenate values in cell(2,2) but I need, if this is possible, to define a FUNCTION (nested functions) in cell(2,2).
Need to take column J20:J255 and column K20:K255 and concatenate into activesheet K20:K255. This needs to happen when OptionButton1.Value=True. The information in each cell will be different. The following code works well, but it will not allow me to put a space in between the two strings.
Private Sub OptionButton2_Click() Dim DescriptionCell As Range Set DescriptionCell = ActiveSheet.Range("D20:D54") If OptionButton2.Value = True Then With DescriptionCell .NumberFormat = General .Formula = "=CONCATENATE('Bill of Materials-3'!F20,'Bill of Materials-3'!I20)" End With End If End Sub
In coloumn A have either Yes or No down to line 1000, In coloumn B I have email addresses down to line 1000. What I want to achieve is in cell C1 have all the email addresses concatenated together that have a Yes value in column A next to it.
I am trying to concatinate a cell to show both text and date (in format mmmm dd yyyy) using a vlookup from another worksheet.
Below is the coding I have in the cell: ="High Importance Request - effective " & VLOOKUP(1,'Fuel Surcharge Key Dates'!$A$6:$E$65536,2,FALSE)
The result I get in the cell from the formula is: I still get it to come out to 39327 instead of June 4 2007
The vlookup in the formula above retrieves a date that has a cell custom formatted to mmmm d, yyyy ... as this cell is not a date that is entered by a user but is further retrieved by another vlookup of dates. Even if I place the VLOOKUP in cell A3, reformat that cell to be a date and change the coding in the formula to: ="High Importance Request - effective " & A3. I still get it to come out to 39327 instead of June 4 2007
I'm working with a datafeed and basically I have a column with the prices of each product in the same row. What I need to do is take the value in the price column and insert it in a specific spot of a different cell (but still on the row).
A1 = <b></b> B1 = 29.99
How would I get that price information between those two bold tags, and do this for all the rows I have that contain specific price info to that row?
I have a lot of HTML in the line I want to bring the price over to and I have tried the following formula at the beginning cell of A1 ="<b>"&B1&"</b>" but I get an error.
I have a spreadsheet that has relatively clean data, but at the end of every row is a long notes fields (often filled with several paragraphs of text). I'm trying to search inside each one of those notes to see if it contains certain boilerplate language / legalese / key words.
If I was just looking for one word, it would be easy -- I would write =IFERROR(IF(SEARCH("keyword",E2)>0,"Yes",""),""). That way, if the keyword is present, it returns "Yes", and if it's not present, it returns a blank.
What I want to do, though, if look for a long list of keywords simultaneously, and if ANY of those keywords are present, have it return a "Yes".
So I could do something like =IFERROR(IF(or(SEARCH("keyword1",E2)>0,SEARCH("keyword2",E2)>0,SEARCH("keyword3",E2)>0,SEARCH("keyword4",E2)>0)),"Yes",""),""), but that seems horribly inefficient. Especially since my list of keywords is likely to change over time.
So what I want it to do is search each cell by simultaneous reference to an ever-changing table of keywords (call it [KeywordTable]). And I can't figure out how to do that. The search function is resisting all of my efforts to put multiple search values / a range of words inside of it.
To reiterate: the goal is to look at one cell filled with text, ask "does the text in that cell contain any of the keywords contained in [KeywordTable]", and if the answer is "Yes" return yes, and if the answer is no return no (or blanks).
