The formula below works, but not if I reference a cell for 1100 or 900. Why?
=COUNTIF(Discharge,"
i have this formula:
=COUNTIF(INDIRECT(A2&"_RES"),"Yes")
A2 refers to a cell to complete the indirect query (DCA_RES) which refers to another range in the workbook.
Now I want to have count if A2&"_INIT" is "BB" AND if A2&"RES" is "YES"
So that I get the amount of records of resolved queries (Yes) that match my Initials (BB).
I cant think of a different formula that might work?
I have a sheet that calculates what items are on any given transaction - this works well. I now want another table that counts how many times a certain brand comes up.
For example one item on a transaction might be "TENSOR REG TRUCK BLK 5.0 x2"
I need the table to look at this and count if tensor is in it (sheet name: 'Sheet 1') but I want it to look at the list of brands and and reference that brand rather than type it out individually.
I'm trying to use a countif formula with a named reference but the formula is not calculated correctly. My example would be: countif(A1:A5,<max) with max being the named reference. I also tried various options using quotes around the named reference (ex. "<max") but that doesn't work either
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been testing the countif function and for some reason it isn't working for me.
I have the following text in cells A1:A3
"apple"
"banana"
"peach"
I have the following text in cells C1:C3
"apricot"
"banana"
"grape"
I put the following formula in B1 and copied down into B2 and B3.
=COUNTIF($C$1:$C$3,A1)
It is meant to count how many of each fruit in A1:A3 is also in C1:C3.
The banana is the only one that is in both lists so the formula in B2 should return 1.
But all three formula's return zero.
If I change the range in the countif formula to relative it works. eg., =COUNTIF(C1:C3,A1)
I have a problem using COUNTIF function. I want to count cells say in range A1:A10 that are smaller that a value in a cell let's say B1. Neither of these works:
=COUNTIF(A1:A10; "<B1")
=COUNTIF(A1:A10; <B1)
How to do it? I saw your answer of Dave to a similar problem, but I still do not understand it.......
i'm trying to do a COUNTIF from an open workbook. The range I want for it is in another workbook, which I do not want to have open every time I run the macro.
This is my current
Sub cellLink()
Sheets("Calls In-Out Trend").Range("ag18").Formula = _
"=COUNTIF('C:***[*.xls]sheet name'I:I, QXO)"
End Sub
editthe range is just so I can see if it's giving the right values, the range won't be like that once I get it working. I'll probably be using logic statements to place them in the appropriate cells. The * is just me taking out the directory names, its on the desktop)
It can copy cell values from another unopened workbook, but when I try to put in COUNTIF it doesn't want to compile/run the script.
That's basically the question. Here's some background and my aim:
I'm scanning row I:I for certain keywords which I then count up and put into corresponding columns of a chart.
I have the following formula in my workbook:
=COUNTIF('\caltulfs1DATAProjectsF2014FB-979916 - EQUATE7.0 DOCUMENTATION7.01 DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS & RECORDS[FB-979916 DSI FORM.xlsm]Customer Tracking'!A12:A86,"past due")
When I open the master file I want my links to automatically update and open the referenced files without having to open the source document for each value. Can this be done
I am currently using a color count function to both count by color and count by color and cells containing certain characters, such as # or %. This works great.
However, I need to modify the UDF to count all the cells in a range in columns C:Z that contain alpha, AND IF the Interior.ColorIndex of a cell in column B within the same row of the counting formula equals the Interior.ColorIndex of a cell in column B within the same row of the selected cell in the range.
Basically, Column B is a header row, and I want to count the cells in a range in each column C:Z if they contain a name AND their corresponding header cell's color in column B matches the color of the header cell in the row containing the formula.
I've hit a problem when re-working some of my spreadsheets. Basically I have this bit of
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have encountered some difficulty in modifying a macro I wrote into what I need. I created a macro that searches a column (Column C) for a cell value of, "stop", and then it copies everything above that cell and pastes it onto another sheet. In the sample data set that I was using, "stop" first occurred in cell C541, so the macro copies C1:C540 and pastes it onto another sheet. The problem is that the macro created an absolute reference to C540. What I desire is for the macro to use the 'Find' function to locate the first occurrence of, "stop", offset one cell above that cell, and then reference the active cell (which was positioned by these last two steps) in the range that should be copied. Basically, I'm hoping to have cells C1 through the active cell copied and then pasted onto another sheet.
Code below.
Sub FAIL()

' FAIL Macro
'

Sheets("Reformatted").Select
Columns("C:C").Select
Selection.Find(What:="stop", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt _

A 'Days Attended' cell (N8) and a 'Days Absent' cell (O8). N8 needs to count the number of "Present" values there are on another worksheet. The other worksheet has dates across the top and names down the side.
When i use
=COUNTIF("Attendance!C9:Z9", "Present"),
and the next date comes along the formula changes to
=COUNTIF("Attendance!D9:AA9", "Present")
ie. the reference moves a column across - the new date's absent or present is not counted. Using =COUNTIF(INDIRECT("Attendance!C9:Z9"), "Present"). is no good because when i add a new name i need the row reference to move down as a row is inserted. ie. both person's formulas count the same row. So, my question: I need the columns to stay the same - C:Z (leyway for future dates) and the rows to change as i insert or delete people from the system.
I have a table that displays data from another worksheet. This is what the cell reference behind the table look like:
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have lets say 12 months of data. I have formulas that reference the latest 6 months. When I insert a new column to input a new month, how can I make the formulas include the new months without manually updating them.
EXAMPLE:
12 months of data exist in cells B3:M3 going from B3(oldest) to M3(newest). Formulas reference latest 6 months of data in cells H3:M3. When a new month hits, I insert a column after column M.I would like the formulas to now reference cells I3:N3 which is now the newest 6 months.
Is it possible to reference a cells value to define a range reference?

I am trying to define the row value in the range reference with a value in a secondary cell?
I have a workbook with 1000+ worksheets, all of which have 3-letter names. On a master sheet, I would like to make a query of how many non-empty cells there are on a subsidiary worksheet. This works:
Code:
=COUNTA(ABC!A:A)
What I'd like to do from time to time is input in column A a varying set of 3-letter worksheet names, say
AAB
ABC
CDE
And have a formula in column B that converts this to
=COUNTA(AAB!A:A)
=COUNTA(ABC!A:A)
=COUNTA(CDE!A:A)
I've learned that simply substituting the cell references A1, A2, A3 for AAB, ABC and CDE doesn't work. What do I need to do to achieve this?
=INDEX(INDIRECT('Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5&"!$A:$DC"),MATCH(B1,INDEX(INDIRECT('Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5&"!$A:$DC"),,1),0),MATCH(A1,INDEX(INDIRECT('Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5&"!$A:$DC"),1,),0))
Where
A1= "M16" and B2= "185%RPIT630"
'Quote Detail IP'!$C$10&'Quote Detail IP'!$C$5=QxTermAge63
Can some on tell me why this is raising a Circular Reference!!
I have a simple database spread sheet and I need to count a column under certain conditions. In one column I have employee names that appear repeatedly, in another I have codes. I want to be able to count how many times the code appears next to the name.
For instance:
If b4:b65000 = Sam Douglas then I want to count how many times different codes appear in the adjacent cell.
Sam Douglas:BI
Sam Douglas:BI
Sam Douglas:SI
Sam Douglas:BI
BI = 3
SI = 1
How do I change a formula cell reference based on another cell's reference? I'm building a schedule that looks to a task's trigger and adds days based on that relationship. All entries in column "A" will be text and all cells in "B" will be the simple formula "=A2" or "=A3". Due date is calculated by adding the value in "C" to the preceding date in column "D". In the spreadsheet below, the trigger for "Budget set" is "Specs written" with 3 days added to the previous due date.
________A________________B_____________C_________D
1 Task___________Trigger_____________Days_____Due Date
2 Design begins__Proj OK______________10____10-Jan
3 Specs written__Design begins (A2)____5____15-Jan (D2+C3)
4 Budget set_____Specs written (A3)____3____18-Jan (D3+C4)
If the trigger for A4, "Budget set", changed from A3 to A2, is there a way that the formula that determines the due date in D4 could read the trigger cell reference in B4 so that the value in the corresponding row in column "C" is added in the date column?
I have 5 columns set up: A,B,C,D,E
D is the sum of A and B
E is the sum of A,B,and C
As I add in a new column to the right of C (call it C2), I need D (which has shifted over one) to sum A,B, and C.
I also need E (which has also shifted over one) to sum A,B,C, and C2.
Essentially I need a function in a cell that will be able to reference two cells to the left even as more cells are added.
I have the following formula in cell L51 of all sheets calculating the volume depending on the monthly index that is chosen from the drop down menu in a particular sheet. =If(MIndex=0, SUM(D33:L50),If(MIndex=1,SUM(D34:L50),If(MIndex=2,SUM(D35:L50), 0))). I am getting the following message and I do not understand what it is about.
Microsoft Office Excel cannot calculate a formula. Cell references in the formula refer to the formula's result, creating a circular reference. Try one of the following
Let's say I've ended up with the number 8 in Cell D4 for example. Is there a formula that can return the letter "G" (The 8th Column) so I can use it in future cell references ? If so, let's say we store that in Cell B5. How do I now refer to a cell in a chosen Row of that same Column by reference to Cell B5 ? For example if I want to refer to Cell G33 can you refer to this Cell in some form like Cell(Contents of Cell B5;33) ??? Don't want to use R1C1 type references if possible.

I'm reasonably new to Excel, and have a fairly basic question to check out:
I have been using the COUNTIF function to count up numbers of items in various categories in a column.
The formulae I have been using are like this:
=COUNTIF(F$3:F$201, "Red")
or where I've wanted to combine various comments
=SUM(COUNTIF(F$3:F$201,"Yellow")+COUNTIF(F$3:F$201,"Cream"))
I'm not sure what formulae to use to count up
1) the total number of entries in that column, so that I can make sure that I haven't missed some (without having to check manually!)
2) how to count up the values that do not match the other categories that I have specified in the COUNTIFs: this would be a value for finding how many 'other' entries there are in that column, without having to specify those values
I am trying to use COUNTIF with two critera. If this isn't possible is there any other way possible of doing this in a range of cells.
What I am trying to do is show the amount of students in a year group who spend x amount of hours on the internet and have a target grade (for example) of Lvl 4
I have been trying use a formula along the lines of =COUNTIF (Q5yr7, "0- 1Hour", Q12yr7, "4")
important columns are: "D", "G", "L".
this is about a project is a granite to be installed in 104 units, these units are divided in 4 types (column "L") K1, K2, K3, K4
I tried IF, SUMIF, COUNTIF, ETC but I think that I need is some combined function that I'm not able to figure out.
as you can see in the attached file, my units 101, 102, etc is not been installed yet (column H is empty), but the units 209, 210, 211, 214 yes was installed on 5/6 for example.
for example, if i use =COUNTIF(H4:H20,">0"), will return me all the H that is not empty (=3), how many kitchen was installed so far, but, I would like to know how many of these returned units (3), is my different types: K1, K2, K3 and K4....
I am trying to count the status and type of some work so:
Column A would contain the status of the work e.g. open, in progress, closed etc.
Column B would contain the department: ict, development, operations, etc.
I want to do a summary that shows: How many are in ICT are open, closed etc.
I can do a countif to get the total open, in progress etc or total number of ICT jobs but not ICT In progress.
What i want to do is count but only if another cell meets a certain criteria,,
Let me explain better,,what i want to do is count the number of 'Completed' cases by each individual, i.e. count if the cell A1 = Completed and B1 = Kevin and the same for 'Pete'
I'm sure i need some sort of nested =IF AND formula but just can't think how the nesting should look.

I have attached a copy of my spreadsheet .My formula is in column BA and I am trying to figure out which students have 5 A* - C. We are only allowed to add 2 vocational subjects to this formula so basically 3 (or More) GCSEs + 2 BTEC/OCR Nationals. Now my formula works pretty well except if the candidate has 4 GCSEs and 0 or 1 BTEC it is still calculating as though the candidate has achieved 5 A* - C.
I have highlighted GCSE Subj in pink and Vocational Subj in Puple.
I've been asked to extend the counting capabilities of my interface to pick up the profession of each person when they answer whatever is selected in the 'Interface' worksheet (cell B2) put them in my interface.
I've been trying various incarnations of SUMPRODUCT along with what DonkeyOte helped me with before, but currently no joy. Hope that makes sense - have a look at previous post for further details. I've attached an example to look at.
