I am trying to make some drop down boxes, but it seems a little different than word. In word I create the driopdown box and insert the text that I want on the list. I can't seem to do this in excel. For example, I have a cell that is labled RANK, and below it, I want the drop down box to have the option AB AMN A1C and SrA. How can I create this? Once I found out, I think I can do the other combo boxes my self.
On my worksheet I am trying to insert a dropdown list in column B and the options available in this list are dependent on what is selected from another dropdown list in column A.
I have another spreadsheet in which I have done exactly the same thing. In this first sheet I use the methodology in column B of through Data Validation allowing a List and setting the Data Validation Source as =INDIRECT(L&A2) where L refers to my possible selection of lists for column B (these lists are called L1, L2, L3, L4 etc and have been defined as such). This then generates a list of options in the cell B2 dropdown list dependent on what the text is in A2. This A2 value has also been selected from a list.
Now when I tried to use exactly the same methodology in my new sheet IT DOES NOT work AARRGGHH !!! When I select a value from the list in column A, then go to the dropdown list in column B there are no options to choose from it is as if the dropdown filter in column B has become inactive. The selection downwards arrow is there, but when I click on it.
I need to insert a drop down box into my spreadsheet, and depending on the option selected, the formula used to calculate the value into another cell changes. How do I implement this in Excel 2007?
To put this in context, I need a list of acids in cell C3. Depending on the acid selected, the formula used to calculate acid concentration in another cell (D3) changes. I need a way to implement this.
How to insert a Calendar Dropdown for Mac Excel 2011? Also, do I have to readjust this (for lack-of-a-better-word) 'add-in' everytime the calendar year changes? This will be used for a payroll template.
The worksheet is basically a sales funnel and I want to use a drop down menu selection in ever row of column Z to update the relevant cell, based on the selection, in the same row, column Q to Y, with a date stamp which will then not change as the drop down is progressively changed to suit the relevant stage of the job.
I am looking to insert a drop down box in Excel 2010 which will allow users to select multiple items. At the moment I have data validation drop down lists in other columns, however I need one column to allow for multiple selections.
Basically I have a drop down which allows for a region to be selected, my next drop down (in the next column) I need to allow users to either select "ALL", or multiple countries which fall within the region selected previously. I need a check box so that users can select multiple countries, and deselect if an incorrect country is selected in error.
I am trying to figure out how to create a drop down list on one page of a workbook with the list of items for the drop down list located on a separate worksheet within the same workbook.
I have a workbook with one spreadsheet with a list of items on it (sheet1/ingredients) and the rest of the worksheets would have the drop down list of items from sheet1/ingredients.
I have been trying to use the validation method with no luck - I just can't seem to get the source path right.
If possible I would also like the drop down list of ingredients to be self updating - the ability to continue to add items to the list and show up in the drop down lists.
When the value in the drop down window is selected I would really like / need to have the data populated in the rows to the right of the drop down window.
While asking is there any sort of auto complete so that one can start typing in the box and the ingredients that start with those letters show up to select from? (Such as if type EVA or EVAP --- then all words starting with EVA or EVAP appear instead of the entire list?)
When we select an entry from the dropdown box the cell obviously displays both the number and the text description to the right. What we need it to do is just display the number after selecting an item from the list. The text is descriptive and to make it easier for users. Is there a way of configuring the dropdown box (or another way) so that say if a user selects "1 Sales" from the dropdown it just displays "1" in the cell.
Need to create a drop down menu for a cell that allows selection of 1 of the 5 to 10 alternatives by clicking on an item in the drop down. Have seen this done by attaching a down arrow button to the cell.
What is this feature called, and how do I go about setting this up?
I would like to know if there's a way to create a checkbox list in a cell that influences other cells:
For example, I would have column A as "Materials Accepted", and each cell would have a dropdown list with the options "Wood", "Drywall", and "Metal", in checkbox format. Then to the right of that, I would have each of the Materials as actual columns so that column B is "Wood", column C is "Drywall", and column D is "Metal".
The way I would want it to work from there is that whatever options I select from the dropdown, it would then put a TRUE flag in that column. So if I select "Wood" and "Metal" on the dropdown checkbox list, columns B and D would both read TRUE on that particular row.
Here is a screenshot of a mockup I did in paint - [URL]
Basically on each row, I would select a number of Materials, and the following columns for those Materials would populate TRUE for the ones that I selected on that row. This was just an example, but I would scale this up to around 30 Materials for hundreds of rows/entries.
Attempting to use INDIRECT function to create dependent data validation list (Type). The tricky part is that the drop down options are dependent on the values of two (2) cell values (Brand and Country).
I have used the INDIRECT function before but dependent on ONE cell value only.
I am trying to create 2 drop-down lists (based on named ranges), where the contents of the second selection change based on the first selection. On one sheet, I have a list of equipment that is quite long, but is broken up by categories. I have named ranges for all the category names, and the equipment in each category. On the other sheet (user side) I made the first drop down the list of categories, and would like the 2nd drop down to be the pieces of equipment that correspond with the chosen category. I have tried using data validation and nesting IF formulas, but it only works for the first 4-5 categories, bc my formula is longer than the Source field allows in Data Validation. Any other way I can make this work? Can I use a macro for this? If so, how to write it as this would be my first macro
I need to create a 2-stage dependent drop down list.
Stage 1:
In cell G7 (on a tab called 'Data'), I have created a drop down list based on a range name called 'Region' .
Stage 2:
In cell G8, I need to create a drop down list which is dependent on the value chosen in G7.
Problem is, I will need to create a dynamic range name here which needs to vlookup or match the value from G7 in a dynamic list of data (the data is on different tab called 'RCA Data' and is spread over columns A:E with row A for headings - the data will go down an undetermined number of rows)
Every time the value in G7 matches a value in the 'RCA data' (the potential matches are stored in column
D) I need the corresponding cell value in column C to be added to the dynamic list. This list then needs to be available to choose from a drop down list in G8.
I am trying to create a drop down list for a table of contents that can link off to other pages within the same work book since it is very large and difficult to navigate through. I can create dropdowns were the lists it draws from is hyperlinks and that doesn't do anything special. It is just like drawing a regular list. I want the drop down when I click on something, to link me over to the other sheet.
I need the drop down menu to update when the user adds a new entry. For example, if the user decides to add companies to the financial table, no matter how many new rows they add, our drop down menu at the top will update to include the new the entries. I want this to be the case in every table. How do I do this?
I need cell d4 to display the number in column b next to the applicable insurance company when the insurance company is selected from the drop down menu in cell c4. How do I do this?
I am trying to create a drop down box that pulls its selection from another sheet in the workbook and I'm not sure how to go about doing it. I figure VBA must have some way of doing it but I am not sure how the coding would go. I've attached a very basic example of what I am trying to accomplish.
I am in the process of creating a database, and have used 'Data Validation' to create drop down lists in order to obtain information quickly from the database.
I have encountered an issue where if I have a list the resembles the one shown below, the drop down list will show spaces.
This is particularly an issue for myself and my database because there is over 1,000 items in the list, and there are countless empty cells within the list. I have tried sorting the list, BUT because the database is quite large, sorting it will disrupt other functions of the database.
Ideally, I would like the drop down list to show only entries within the list that are not empty so the drop down list is entirely relevant, and more user friendly.
i have created this spreadsheet for windows and doors. My only problem right now is that when i put a quanity of "3" in the correct column with frame removal. it doesn't multiply it by 3.
Example:
90x90 = 56.25 sq ft (window) : 3 QTY .. with frame removal should equal $ 855 but its only adding the 1 frame removal so its $785
Frame removal, jamb ext and casing should multiple the value from the table worksheet with the QTY of windows.
I expect to deploy over 200 iterations of a workbook (templates if you will) containing a mix of up to one hundred different attributes each with its own list of valid values. My problem is the attributes don't always default to the same column in every template workbook. Therefore, to make things easier for users I would like to create attribute valid value dropdown lists on the fly using the "Valid Values' table as the source data (see the attached). Since the attribute names will be the same from one template workbook to the next, I wanted to come up with a macro that would reference a source table (a separate workbook) containing all valid values for all attributes which users would be required to download to their local machine.
See the attached example workbooks and an example of a "Valid Values" list. Here's what needs to happen: When a user opens template workbook #1 I need drop down lists containing the valid values for the attributes contained in cell B3 (User Code),C3 (Department) and D3 (Category). Likewise, when another user opens template workbook #2, I need drop down lists containing the valid values in cell B2 (Department), C3 (Group), D3 (Category), E3 (Level), F3 (Material) and G3 (User Code). Notice that "Department", "Category" and "User Code" are data elements common between both workbooks but resident in different columns.
I have been working on a template using validation tool so as to create drop down lists. Now I have to select data from a combination of two fields.
Example: I need info from Dataset A and Dataset B to create a new drop down list from Dataset C.
I tried with If AND formula =IF(AND(B4="Test";B6="de10");"ok";"no") where due to the selected values I got Ok as a return answer. However I need to have a dropdown list of relevant values selected and I am having some issues.
When I name my group (Dataset C) as DE10 so that it can be linked to DE10 value (dataset B) so that I can do a validation then I get an error as DE10 is an excel field name; therefore I thought of the IF AND solution as I was thinking of doing so that I can name Dataset C as XYZ (instead of DE10) on the data sheet however I am having some trouble in getting the drop down list to work.
Basically I need a drop down list from dataset C when certain info is picked from Dataset A and Dataset B.
I've written a ton of VB macros that do various things to a raw data sheet. I want now to create a custom menu (in the the menu ribbon bar at the top of the screen). I'd like this menu to be used to activate the various macros for whoever has my add-in.
I've found several examples on how to create an add-in, and creating custom menus, however they all for when someone opens a workbook with the code, and then they remove the custom menu when the workbook is closed. I would like my custom menu to stay on the users ribbon bar no matter what workbook they have open. The only time the custom menu should not appear is if the user removes the add-in.
I have the following table with weeks to display for the holidays and my column H has a drop down list of the first column in the table below with the Named Range, "SNCODE.Season_Codes".
The other two Named Ranges are, "SNCODE.Season_Codes.Start" and "SNCODE.Season_Codes.End"
I need my column K to display a list of weeks from the first week to the last week. For example, the cell in column K for Valentine's Day should have 1, 2, 3, 4.
We have a proposal generation tool that we use that is based in Excel, and it works very well indeed. However, we're wanting to add a 'Custom Contract Generator' tab to the spreadsheet, and I'm at a loss with how to build it.
What it needs to do is :
- Allow the end user to select which contract clauses are required for the proposal they are working on, ideally via a range of dropdown boxes.
- Use that selection of clauses via dropdown box to create a compiled, formatted text list made up of those clauses.
- Enter that information into a landscape orientation Excel tab in such a manner as allows for tidy, business-suitable printing.
In short, I want the ability to pick what clauses we want to use, and have Excel generate a custom contract Terms and Conditions page based on my selection. And I've no idea where to start.
I have a sheet with data that is associated with a month or season. I need to create a drop down list or check boxes on another sheet that will allow me to select the data associated with the month or season that is chosen.
For instance, on Sheet1, I have Summer-12 as the label in cell A1, and the data associated with it in cell A3:AH15. Winter-12 is in cell A18 and the data associated with it is in B20:31.
This goes on for 3 years of data.
I need a drop down list or check boxes on sheet2 where I can select one or multiple seasons and then the associated data for those seasons appear in order.
I am creating a very simple spreadsheet to manage my gym memberships. It basically has membership number, first name, last name, membership type (drop down box) start date and expiry date. I have put in conditional formatting so that the expiry date goes red when expired but i want to try and automate the inputting of the dates so for example.
If i select '1 week membership) from the drop down box in the membership type box it will firstly change the start date to the current date (i think this is using the NOW() function) and secodnly changes the expriry date to todays date plus 6 days. Ofcourse i want the expiry date to increase depending on the selection so if i select 1 month membership it would be now date plus 28 days.
I am stuck as to how i can do this and from internet tutorials have been told it requires macro as it cant be done any other way?
I need drop-down combo box to change a graph based on the option selected in the drop-down
Challenge: my Combo box resides on the First sheet only, but the items that populate in the drop-down list are dynamic and change depending on how many sheets exist for this document. The options in the list are Overall, Week 1, Week 2, ... Week N. Overall needs to sum up the data (or I can pull just from the summary page if I am lazy) and the Week N corresponds to a specific sheet added.
I currently am able to get my drop down to populate items correctly, and my macros to create the sheets dynamically with templates just fine (not bad for newbie).
So what I need to figure out is how to tie my drop down to make a scatter plot/bar graph based on the selected option and action. I can't find an attachment option here but here is some code:
Sheet 1 Code:
Code: Private Sub Worksheet_Activate() Me.ComboBox1.Clear Me.ComboBox1.AddItem "Overall"
