Deleting Lines - Keeping Formulas Fixed

Sep 6, 2007

With a macro i want to delete some lines in sheet1. In sheet2 however i have formulas that point on sheet1 .. like this

=sheet1!A1
=sheet1!A2
=sheet1!A3

Now when i delete line 2, the result would look like this
=sheet1!A1
#NV!
=sheet1!A2

Is there a way to make these formulas pointing at the same cells after line two is deleted? And i do not mean a work around, with different formulas. I just want the Formulas in sheet2 to remain unchanged, regardless of what happens in sheet1...

Copying Values But Keeping Rows That Have Formulas In Them

I have a spreadsheet with a lot of financial information going down a column (about 500 rows down). Most of the cells are just typed in, but certain rows have sum formulas in them. Is it possible to copy values from another workbook, paste the values in, but somehow keep the formulas that are running through?

Copy Formulas While Keeping Cell References

Sep 1, 2009

I need to copy a bunch of cells that contain formulas without altering the cell references. I know I could change each formula to contain absolute cell references, then copy and paste special with formulas, but this is alot of work, and following that I'd need to change the references back again from absolute to relative in both locations. So, is there a way to quickly copy and paste formulas in multiple cells without altering the cell references?

Transferring Data From One Workbook To Another - Bypassing Fixed Formulas

Jan 5, 2012

I am in the process of transferring data from one workbook to another.

I am doing this simply by clicking on the cell where I want the data to be, typing "=", then clicking on the cell in the other workbook I want it to match. While there might be easier ways to do this, it isn't too terrible and my columns are not in the same order in the two workbooks.

The problem I'm running into, is when I click on the cell I want to copy over, the formula defaults to the fixed formula (puts $ around the cell name) and I want to be able to copy down the formula over multiple cells.

I can click on the cells and press F2 once then F4 three times to get the formula over to the desired non-fixed format, however, I have to do this for 12 different workbooks and on roughly 40 columns for each.

Is there a way to expedite the process or turn off this fixed-formula default?

Deleting Empty Lines Using A Macro

Aug 7, 2014

I have another report which needs to be sorted using a macro. However, before I can sort the data, I need to delete rows at the bottom of each report that have "0" values in column A and B. Again, each report I run is of different length so I need to write a code that will take that into consideration. Here is an example of what I need to do:

Sub second_step()
'
' second_step Macro
'

'
Range("C1").Select
Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select
Rows("7876:7876").Select
Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select
Selection.ClearContents
Range("A1").Select
End Sub

Now, the thing is, not every report will start having "0" values in row 7876. How do I write a code to reflect this?

Inserting Lines, Takes Neighboring Formats But Not Formulas

It seems to already have that behavior for formatting and conditional formatting. Is there a way to also have that for formulas when inserting lines?

ronnie sunnyvale (formula using VLOOKUP)

What I'm trying to do here in this attached spreadsheet is at the end of inputting my line, I want to hit the tab (marked in red to make it clear where) button in the cell and have it automatically create another blank line but keep the formulas the same.

Basically I just want to avoid having to right click and insert line and then drag the formulas column by column down which is difficult.

Deleting Worksheet Causes #REF! In Formulas

Sep 4, 2006

I have a macro that imports a text file. I then have summary sheets that reference to the sheets with the imported text file details. This is a task I complete every month.

The next month I delete the sheets with the imported text file details before importing current month's details. But when I do that it screws up my references.

Here's an example of a reference with previous months' imported text file details:

= SUM('X'!$I$1:$I$3000)/2+SUM('Y'!$I$1:$I$3000)/2

When I delete the sheets with the imported text file details and import current month's details, my reference suddenly looks like this:

=SUM(#REF!$I$1:$I$3000)/2+SUM(#REF!$I$1:$I$3000)/2

What can I do to prevent the summary sheet from messing up my original references?

Deleting Cell Values But Not Formulas?

Aug 24, 2013

I work for a bank and we use an excel spreadsheet that has an in depth payment calculator used for creating monthly payment arrangements or calculating settlements on bank loans. I would like to add the following feature and I'm not quite sure exactly how to do it.

For example, imagine cell A1 will contain the full payoff of a loan. I want to be able to put a settlement offer in B1 and have C1 populate the percentage of the payoff that is. At the same time, I want to be able to delete the settlement offer in B1 and put a percentage in C1 and have it calculate that settlement offer in B1. The calculations/formulas to do these problems is simple, but what I need is to not lose the formulas in B1 and C1 if I were to go back and forth entering settlement offers vs settlement percentages.

Deleting Rows Without Modifying Formulas

Apr 9, 2009

I have a large amount of data on a sheet which is being looked at by the following formula

{=AVERAGE(IF(LEFT(RAW_DATA!$C$4:$C$10000,LEN(Dashboard!$I$10))=Dashboard!$I$10,IF(RAW_DATA!$A$4:$A$10000=$A2,RAW_DATA!$J $4:$J$10000)))}

However, i don't need to keep the oldest data so I want to write a macro that deletes some of the top rows. Doing this in the normal way causes the formula above to change. I.e deleting one row cause the range to become $J$4:$J$9999 and so on.

Is there any way of deleting a row without affecting the formulas that are looking at it?

Adding And Deleting Rows In Worksheet While Maintaining Formulas?

Mar 26, 2014

I have a Productivity Report that contains very basic formulas that provide totals for 4 columns (B6:E6) and an average for one column (F). I have included two command buttons, one to add a new row and the other to delete a row.

I need to be able to add or delete rows depending on how many employees' productivity I will be tracking on any given week; each row represents a separate employee. I need the following functionality out of my form:

1) formula in column F needs to copy and paste with each new line
2) when a new line is copied and pasted I need the contents to be cleared
3) I need the user to be blocked from deleting the first row (3 on this form) in the table

The code I'm using for my "Add" button is:

[Code].....

The code I'm using for my "Delete" button is:

[Code] .....
The buttons add and delete rows as I'd like them to but content is not clearing, with each row added the contents provide a sub total. I've tried various lines of code (some more complicated and some less) before I recorded my own macro (see above).

Textboxes Not Keeping Value?

May 28, 2013

I have a big clunky spreadsheet that I thought I'd tidy up by adding a userform to keep the info

There's a combination of textboxes, option buttons, listboxes and a multipage. Everything seems to load correctly, and selecting an item in a listbox correctly fills the textboxes, but when I change the value of the textboxes, only 2 out of 4 holds that value and sends it to the correct cell.

The code that is supposed to send all the values is;

VB:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
'check that a row has been selected
If Range("K3") = "" Then

[Code].....

The culprits are TextBox3 and TextBox4.

I've tried changing the names, I've checked that there are no other textboxes pasted on top, I've even tried adding in a MsgBox line to show the value of the textbox; if the form loads and the box grabs a value of "ABC" from the spreadsheet, and I change it to "DEF", when I hit the button to execute the above code the textbox goes straight back to "ABC".

But it's not an issue with TextBox2 ...

Other parts of the code include a UserForm_Activate block and 5 x ListBox_Click's.

Using Cell References In File Paths For Formulas To Create Dynamic Formulas

Dec 3, 2013

I am using a lot of linked reports that have to be rewritten each month. For example smaller formulas look like this:

=('S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$228*2)+'S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$262+'S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$292

What I want to do is extract the file path from the above formula and make it a composite of several cell references.

So what I need is to have a cell where they can change the month and another where we can change the year. So I set up several named cells that look like this:

_MONTH =11 November
_YEAR =2013
_JOBCARD ='S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING
_PATH =_JOBCARD & _YEAR &"" &_MONTH

I tried several versions, I am hoping for something like this:

=('_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$228*2)+'_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$262+'_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$292

Formulas To Hide Partial Concatenate Data And Determining Two Other Formulas

Dec 11, 2013

I'm trying to automate creating certain keyword combinations I need, based off of the values I input into reference cells in columns A - E; the goal is to compile a list of keywords which I will then use to track my rankings in search engines.

I'm looking to only output 500 keywords, so some of the cells in columns A, B, C & E will not contain data (column D will always have a primary Geo-target listed). This results in some of the concatenate formulas I've created outputting partial data (i.e. if there is no data in cell A10, and cell D2 contains the word "Knoxville", then cell I10 will output the data, "Knoxville "). How can I setup conditioning formatting or a formula so that these auto-generated cells appear blank if one of the reference cells has no data within it?The reason why I need the above to work is because I want to setup a formula that automatically counts the # of keyword combinations created by the data entered into any of the reference cells. With the partial combinations being listed, it skews my data. Which leads me to my next question: what is the best formula for counting the # of cells containing a full keyword combination from any of the cells listed in columns G - O (minus the data in the header cells; i.e. G1, H1, etc...)?Lastly, is there a formula I could use that would then aggregate all of the full keyword combinations within the "Complete Keyword List" column (column P)?

Formula With Non Fixed Row Number?

Dec 14, 2013

For instance I have a formula such as =sum(A1:A9). But imagine that the range is not always till row 9 but depends on the total number of rows that are in the table. How can I change that 9 so that it takes a number equal to the total rows in the table?

The final formula I want is not that simple one. It is actually

=INDEX($F$1:$F$1047,MATCH(1,INDEX(($G$1:$G$1047=G2)*($L$1:$L$1047<>"47200")*($L$1:$L$1047<>"47700"),0),0)).

I want to change 1047 by the relevant number of rows. Also, I do know how to do it in VBA, but I have a problem with the length of the formula there (not that one, but other bigger than that)
