Apr 14, 2009

I have a series of worksheets that are formatted for data imported from various scripts.

What I want to do is parse through each worksheet and cell, when the cell has numeric data, I want to clear the cell.

I do not want to clear the cells on the following conditions:
Cell has Text
Cell has Formula
Cell has date, month or time

Clear Cells In Range That Are Not Numeric

Mar 28, 2007

I am trying to write a macro in excel to clear all cells within a range that are non numeric. I seem to be going round in circles trying to find out how to do this.

I assume I have to use the IsNotNumeric(Target) argument but I can't find how to specify the target within a range.

Protecting Formulas In Cells From Clear Contents Command

Sep 19, 2007

I have a worksheet from which I regularly clear all contents by selecting all the rows and selecting 'Clear Contents' from the right button menu. However, I now have added a formula in Col Y that I want to protect. I know I could select all columns up thru X, but that would clear the R1 headers, so I want to avoid doing that. I can always work around, but I'm curious, is there a way to clear only values and thus protect the formulas when using the Clear Contents command?

VBA Macro: Clear All Constant Cells In Range That Don't Have Formulas

Jun 22, 2009

is there a way to do this in VBA? I've also read: - Dave Hawley's recommendation of using: Sheet1.UsedRange.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants).ClearContents

from another thread (which is excellent!)

- SHG's recommendation of using a named range, for example:

Range("Inputs").ClearContents

Given my limited knowledge of VBA, how would I now combine the two to write a VBA sub-routine that clears a named range entitled "Entry" on a sheet entitled "Data"? Would the following be the correct syntax: Worksheets("Data").Range("Entry").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants).ClearContents

Keeping Cells Waiting For New Data To Not Be Read As Zero Or Be Ranked

Aug 7, 2013

I am trying to rank a series of data. I have most of this figured out. However, the data that is being ranked is based on a sum of a range of cells. I have lines that are waiting for new information to be put in related to the values to be ranked and the value is reference a sum of blank cells currently since there is no data there and it is showing up as zero and therefore being ranked number 1 in my list. I basically want the ranking to rank the values 1-11 while putting all values that are zero to be put at the bottom of the ranking. Any way to do this without macros. I have been using the VLOOKUP and RANK functions for my ranking purposes.

I have tried using an if statement that made the cells #N/A if they were zero, however they remained at the top of my ranking.

Copying Values But Keeping Rows That Have Formulas In Them

I have a spreadsheet with a lot of financial information going down a column (about 500 rows down). Most of the cells are just typed in, but certain rows have sum formulas in them. Is it possible to copy values from another workbook, paste the values in, but somehow keep the formulas that are running through?

Deleting Lines - Keeping Formulas Fixed

Sep 6, 2007

With a macro i want to delete some lines in sheet1. In sheet2 however i have formulas that point on sheet1 .. like this

=sheet1!A1
=sheet1!A2
=sheet1!A3

Now when i delete line 2, the result would look like this
=sheet1!A1
#NV!
=sheet1!A2

Is there a way to make these formulas pointing at the same cells after line two is deleted? And i do not mean a work around, with different formulas. I just want the Formulas in sheet2 to remain unchanged, regardless of what happens in sheet1...

Copy Formulas While Keeping Cell References

I need to copy a bunch of cells that contain formulas without altering the cell references. I know I could change each formula to contain absolute cell references, then copy and paste special with formulas, but this is alot of work, and following that I'd need to change the references back again from absolute to relative in both locations. So, is there a way to quickly copy and paste formulas in multiple cells without altering the cell references?

Using Sum Product On Cells With Numeric And Text Values

May 29, 2013

I'm trying to find out exactly how I can use sum product on cells that have text and numeric values. Here's my sample data (6 points):

TN FX1576 20, TN FX1577 25, AZ FX1577 30, AZ FX1577 35, FW FX 1577 40, and FW 1577 45.

I wish to do the following: I want to sum all of the right numeric values based on the first two text values(TN, AZ, or FW). I want to sum these numbers to their respective total cells at the top of the page. So far I can sum the numeric values fine using the following formula: =sumproduct((right(range,2)*1) but when I try to differentiate between the respective locations (AZ, TN, or FW) I get an error message.

Attached is an example of what I'm trying to do along with the formula I'm currently using and yellow shading to represent where I want my respective sums to go.

Keeping Cells With Formula And Conditional Formatting Blank Until Data Entered?

Feb 22, 2013

I have a spreadsheet filled with formulas that depend on a value being entered into A2, A3, A4, etc... So column A starting at A2 is where I will manually input a number and the formulas I have in columns B, C, and D will import information from another sheet based off what is put in column A. In column D the formula I have to import data

is =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,Master!C:M,11,0),"").

This will import another number. Additionally in column D, I have conditional formatting that will return a red, yellow or green light based off the rule I have in place. Everything works fine, the only problem is that column D has a green light all the way down even without a value being placed in column A. I would like to find out a way to keep the cells in column D blank until a value is entered in column A. Also, if I go back and delete the value in column A, I would like the corresponding cell in column D to go back to blank as well.

Match Numeric Data With Query Text Data

Oct 2, 2007

I have some code that goes through some data that is imported from a database via a query.
This has been working for a few years without a problem.

I lookup and employee number on my sheet to the employee number in the database table.

this is my code that checks the employee number.

Set rs = Worksheets("Employee")
If rs. Cells(r, 2) = cells(1,1) Then 'if employee number matches
......

The problem is that now the database application has adapted an alpha option (it used to be numeric only). In order for my code to work I have to change the employee number on my sheet by putting a ' in front of it.

Example if the number was 127 I need to enter '127 in the cells.

I have a few thousand in my data.

Can I add some code to my macro so I can still enter just the number in the cells?

Count Non-blank, Non-numeric, Non-zero, Non-space, Non-error Text Cells (2007)

I know different variations of this question get asked all the time... but I can't find an answer that I'm sure will *always* do what I want.

I have a range of cells (A1:A10), and I want to count all the text entries of positive length. That is to say, I don't want to count:

blanks
numbers
zeros
spaces
errors

I'm sure I need to use the LEN function, but I can't quite figure out how.

this counting expression will be inserted in a SUMPRODUCT formula

Lots Of Text Data, Need To Assign Unique Numeric Values

Aug 28, 2009

Here's my situation.

I will post a rudimentary example:
Account Name/Column A
Truman school, San Diego
Truman school, San Diego
Truman school, San francisco
Truman school, Atlanta
Truman school, Atlanta

In column B, I would like it to assign a unique numeric id based on the TEXT only.

So Truman school, San Diego gets a string of numbers: 1234
Truman school, san fran: 1235
Truman school, Atlanta: 1236

My spreadsheet is about 6,000 records with a great deal of the above situation going on. So school names are identical with different locations assigned. I am trying to import to a database and don't want a lot of duplicate records. That's why I'm trying to assign a numeric value.

Using SUMIFS On A Large Amount Of Data - Numeric Value Stored As Text?

Aug 1, 2012

I was using SUMIFS on a large amount of data, but wasn't getting back the exact sum that I needed.

It turns out that I had cells with values similar to the following

Code:
000123
0123
Basically, text fields with the same numerical values, except for the number of leading zeros. Due to the nature of the table, the number of leading zeros is important. When I did SUMIFS, it counted the sum of the two values together. For example with the following:
Item
Batch
Qty

ABC
123
1

It appears that even if a numeric value is stored as text, SUMIFS treats it like a number.

Clear Data Depending On User Input And Move Cells Forward Without Deleting Data Table

Oct 25, 2012

I have an month input in cells B2 (user can enter values from 1-5)

I then have a data table that has month 1,2,3,4,5 running across range G9:K9. the data is held in range G10:K19.

So if user types in 4 in B2, what should happen is that months 1,2,3 and 4 the data for these months should be cleared and data in month 5 moves forward into month 1.

So basically, anything left of the month entered is B2 should be cleared and replaced with anything right of the month in B2.

Clear Cells With Data Validation But No Value

However, only about 10% of the cells have a value from that data validation list in them (which is what I want). Clear Data In Cells With Validation

Jul 8, 2008

I have several cells on a worksheet which contain data validation and force the user to select from a list, and several other cells with free user input. I want to use a macro to clear all data, and return the cells containing data validation to blank. (I have a blnak row at the top of all my lists, so there is a selection for "blank".)

I have no problem clearing the cells requiring user input, but my recorded macro would not select the cells with validation and return them to blank.

The first cell containing validation that I need to clear is M39. I have my code listed below for clearing the other cells. If I could get a clue on how to return M39 to blank, I could figure out the rest of the cells.
