SORTING - KEEPING TEXT TOGETHER ON SEPARATE LINES
Aug 3, 2007
I have 5 columns. The first 4 columns only contain 1 line each, the last column can contain anywhere from 1-6 lines. How can I do a sort and keep all the text in the last column together? By way, it was imputed on separate lines.

With a macro i want to delete some lines in sheet1. In sheet2 however i have formulas that point on sheet1 .. like this
=sheet1!A1
=sheet1!A2
=sheet1!A3
Now when i delete line 2, the result would look like this
=sheet1!A1
#NV!
=sheet1!A2
Is there a way to make these formulas pointing at the same cells after line two is deleted? And i do not mean a work around, with different formulas. I just want the Formulas in sheet2 to remain unchanged, regardless of what happens in sheet1...

I have groups of information I need to stay together, but I'd like to be able to sort them by last name. Today, Tomorrow and Long Term are conditionally formatted (=ISBLANK is green and =ISTEXT is red). As long as the information stays together in a group, that won't be a problem. I have a hidden column A where every cell next to the form refers back to the cell with the last name in it. But when I tried to sort by that, it still seemed to mangle my form. There are no merged cells here. There will eventually be dates, locations (booked) and absent, etc.. filled in. I just want to be able to sort this entire block, without changing anything in it, by last name. There are about 100 of these blocks of info.

I'm trying to sort by City first, then by Report #, but keeping the highlighted rows together. If I use the custom sort it will through my D2's at the bottom and not keep them with their city, report, and D1. How do I get them to stay together? I have attached my document example.

I have 2 large XLS sheets that need to be split into seperate sheets.
The first is only 5 columns wide but the amount of rows changes day to day.
The second is a maximum of 7 columns wide and again the amount of rows will change.
I'm hoping for a VBA code to be able to do both on seperate books.
The A Column has the name of the company, and this can include (/,&) that will need to be removed, the names can also exceed 31 characters.
I would like to seperate the sheets by the company name and have the name appear as the sheet name.
Also the formatting from the master sheet to be copied to the resulting sheets, with a header row.
I have included the data for the larger of the two workbooks. data.jpg I have to pull the smaller report each day and the larger report each week.

I have a very large inventory spreadsheet (30,000+ lines) where finished goods are listed on one line and the raw materials (parts) that make up that finished good are listed below. After the last raw material for a finished good is listed, the next finished good is on the next line (and so on). First, I need to sort the lines to eliminate certain common raw materials. Next I need to take the lowest raw material inventory level and have that as the default inventory level for the finished good.

I work for a printing company that prints labels. We have 6 printing presses, lets call them A,B,C,D,E & F. Certain labels can only be printed on printing press F.
From our business system I can run a report in excel format giving details of all the labels that we have sold in the present month. I need split that report into 2 separate excel spreadsheets; 1 showing everything that was printed on presses A to E and the other showing everything printed on press F.
I also have another excel spreadsheet which gives a complete list of all the labels that have to be printed on press F.
Every label that we print has a part code and both spreadsheets show this part code so that would be the linking factor between the 2 sheets.

I am working on an excel spreadsheet that has multiple "sheets" to it. On the first sheet I have multiple columns worth of info and on the second sheet I am trying to copy some of the info from the first sheet.
For example:
Sheet 1, Column A2 has the number 1 in it.
On sheet 2 I have entered the command "=SHEET1A2" and it copies the info as I had hoped.
However, here is where my issue comes into place.
When I sort Column A on sheet 1 numerically, my answer on sheet 2 changes to whatever the new number is in box A2 on sheet 1.
Is there a way I can copy the info so that it changes as I sort the column numerically or alphabetically?

I have 3 status sheets (about 300+ ea.) that I was given to sort out.
Information:
1) Column A: Number of items (i.e. 1 )
2)Columbe B: Rec'd Date + initials + no. of copies received, followed by notes (i.e. 021709,akb,01)
Since there is only one column with all the information together, is there a way to sort the attached sheet by initials? I don't know how to create a formula to pull all the date, mjg's; date, jac's; date, akb's; etc... into a separate table.
A: No. of items
B: Date,mjg... = Total no. of items
C: Date, abk... = Total no. of items
D: Date, akb... = Total no. of items

I'm trying to separate text from numbers into two separate cells...
Essentially, I would like the users to copy and paste data into Column A, as seen below. Then, hopefully by formula separate the text characters into Column B and the numbers into Column C.
Input: Output 1: Output 2:
Col A Col B Col C
Wells 123 Wells 123
Wells 1234 Wells 1234
Wells Fargo 123 Wells Fargo 123
Wells Fargo 1234 Wells Fargo 1234
Wells Fargo Inc 123 Wells Fargo Inc 123
Wells Fargo Inc 1234 Wells Fargo Inc 1234
Ideally, I would like to do this with a formula...

I have a string of numbers and characters and I have a Macro that I copy-pasted from somewhere online that REMOVES any character that is not a number.
Is a great Macro that transforms:
"-a209 03 . 1 - 22 46" to 2090312246
I can send the code on request.
However the problem comes when running the macro into that string excel transforms it DIRECTLY into a Numeric. That is we are missing the first two, or first characters when they are zeros.
For example: "007 01 1.32.08" becomes 70113208 in stead of: 0070113208
And this is a problem.
I have tried to define the cell as text before running the macro. Fails. I have tried to re-define the cell afterwards as text but the zeros do not appear. Fails.
Including in the Macro a last minute section that forces the cell to remain as text...(seems easy! but I have do not know how to program in VBA)

I have a series of cells, each having multiple lines of text within separated by hard return breaks. For example, cell A1 has the following text:
John Smith
123 Main St.
New York, NY
I want to extract line 1 into cell B1, line 2 into cell C1, and line 3 into cell D1.
Is this possible without VBA or Macros? I'm using Excel 2008 for Mac OSX so that's not an option.

Perameters are then changed in the input file and it is then repeted over and over again. One of the parts I am stuck on is I need to delete the last 5 lines in the input file called INPfile.txt. Because there are mutlipule sub categories that a product can belong to the report produces mirrored lines with one sub category on each line. What I need to do is combine all of these subcategory entries into one cell separated by a comer (,).

I currently have some code which reads a stock file, adding up the stock for each individual item (which may be in one or more locations in the warehouse) and then placing the total stock count in a cell with the detail (of how much stock is in each location, the location and the expiry date) and a separate line for each location, in a comment.
The comment is constructed one line at a time as the code finds the stock records, see code below:
With shtWorking.Range(strStartColumn & intRow + 2)
oldComment = .Comment.Text
.Comment.Delete
.AddComment oldComment & vbNewLine & strComment
.Comment.Shape.TextFrame.AutoSize = True
End With
All this works very nicely, but I want to colour individual lines depending on the expiry date. This can be done manually in Excel, but I cannot find a way of colouring individual lines of text in a comment using VBA.
So, does anyone know of a way I can colour individual lines of text in a comment, using VBA?

For the following formula:
=”TEXT1”&”TEXT2”
The result is:
TEXT1TEXT2
Is there any kind of modifier that I can use to force the output to multiple lines, i.e.:
TEXT1
TEXT2
If this wasn’t a formula I could just use ALT+ENTER. Wrapping the text will not work because I need fixed break points not dependent on the text box width.
