Figure Out How The Best Setup Could Be Done To Make This Easier For Pivot Table Analysis
Jan 10, 2010
I am tasked with putting together an Excel Spreadsheet to analyze our accounts. There are over 80 items for the accounts - about 20 Income and about 60 expenses. These are for various years - actually the last 5 years - by months.
So, I am trying to figure out how the best setup could be done to make this easier for pivot table analysis.
So I have 12 "rows" for each account item for each year.
Maybe I should wait for comments and/or questions before going further.
Just need to figure out how to set up the workbook/worksheet.
Data Analysis . I have 7 tables gathered in one spreadsheet but in seperate sheets. Tables have the same columns but different data baceause they come from different locations. Now I would like to create pivot table to combine data from all 7 tables. I read a little and I got to know that relationships is needed between the tables but I can't create it because I don't have unique data in the table. Usually tables consist repeating names, locations, some numerical data.
For example every table consists worker's name. I create pivot table from one of 7th starting from worker's name in row field and put some data in value field. Then I add another workers from another table. I can do it but when I put in row field I have workers from second table under those from first one. And of course data are badly calculated. I would like to have all workers in row field with proper data. It means one column with all workers from all 7 tables an then some their data
I know I can copy all of them into one big table and then create pivot table but this is solution what I wanted avoid. I know it will work but these data can change from time to time and it will be very hard to maintain spreadsheet. When data will change I will have to copy manually .Is there any solution to create such a pivot table from multiple tables sources but with the same column structures?
I have a spreadsheet with 15,000 rows x 15 more columns, i would like to find out the number of delivery for each single order.
The database similar as below :-
Order No. Delivery Date Product 12345678 01.01.2009 TV 12345678 01.01.2009 DVD PLAYER 12344568 02.01.2009 TV 14567892 03.01.2009 RADIO 14567892 04.01.2009 RADIO 14567892 31.12.2008 BLUE RAY 15465879 06.01.2009 MP3
1)what excel function should I use in order to find out the number of delivery since there are so many duplicate records in the database.
I'm trying to convert some data from MLS to make it easier to work with statistically. The raw data regarding Bath count downloads from MLS in 2 columns; 1 column for Full Baths & 1 column for Half Baths (see Raw Data.jpg). I want to concatenate the baths to one column and, if there is a 1/2 bath, tack ".5" to the end of the full bath count.
The problem with my formula is that if it concatenates the ".5" to the full bath count number, it converts the format to text (see Current Formula.jpg). I know I can go through later and convert it back to number format but is there a formula I could use that would keep it in number format?
attached is a spreadsheet 6 people in my area use daily(ive copied and pasted the sheet in question to a new worksheet, as the file was too big). Ive been trying for about 3 days now to make a pivot table to summarise this data.
I have a very large excel data file, which I want to analyse using pivot tables. The problem is that while most of the columns are headed with the variable name (e.g. country) and have the list of variables displayed under that heading for each observation (e.g. Italy), the years are spread across the columns - i.e. the heading for column X is not "Year", but is 2003, with the next column being 2004, etc.
Is there a quick way I can re-arrange the data so that the layout is consistent and so that I can use it for pivot tables? I have way too many observations to do this by hand.
In the attached file (xlsx) under 'Database' Tab poeple have indicated their preferences (multiple choices) for different food items "specialties". The specialties are grouped under broader buckets called "groups". The specialties are bucketed into groups in a way that people end up more than once in each specialties and groups due to their muliple selections. When we create a pivot by specialties (Pivot Specialties tab), each person appears only once for each specialty...it's great. But, when we create a "group" pivot (each group has multiple specialties), now, people appear more than once for each group. Is there a way, each person can show up only once under each group so the group count does not appear to be misleading?
This is how my pivot table would look like to start. Over time I would refresh and more things will be added. I want to make a Pie chart, and everytime I refresh the Pivot I want the Pie to get updated.

BUT I want to do this on a separate tab. So basically I want to do a Vlookup of sorts. Where all the Fruit items are pulled and automatically updated when I refresh the Pivot. Then I would do the same for Veggies.
Our system can create an SLK file showing customer open orders. It is ALWAYS in the exact same format. I created a macro to open this file, manipulate the data (convert text to numbers, convert text date to actual date, and a few other things) and then make a pivot table.
When I try to run it it gets hung up on the pivot table and the debug highlights the BOLD below:
I have an SQL Server that has a query (a view stored on the server) which takes roughly 10-20 seconds to execute. This execution time is the same in Excel 2007 if I import data to worksheet/pivottable. It is also the same in Excel 2003 while importing data into a worksheet. It returns about 350 rows.
However, if I try to make a pivot table in 2003 based on this query, it is much slower. I can set it up fine, but refreshing this pivot table takes at least 10-20x as long to complete, in the order of 5-20 minutes, to sometimes taking so long that I give up and kill it by hitting escape a bunch.
It's important to note that I am forced to used Microsoft Query to set up a pivot table in Excel 2003. There is no other way, I believe.
While it is running, Excel just sits there saying "Waiting for data to be returned from Microsoft Query".
Here is the weirdest part. Once the refresh starts, Microsoft Query loads in the background, you can see it on the taskbar. I believe that is expected behavior, but if I click on MS Query and view its datatable, I can see all the data is sitting there.
So what is the hold up? MS Query has the data. Excel is waiting for it to be returned. What is going on? And remember from above, if I do a simple import data to worksheet, MS Query is not used and everything is fast.
So my question is does anybody have any tips/advice on this issue? I need a way to not use MS Query for a pivottable's data source or I need a way to make MS Query not freeze up. I don't get why MS Query needs to be involved in the first place since I am not doing any parameters or so forth.

Although i can manually look at the sales figures and work out if they are buying less or more products i would like a a more automatic way of finding out if customers sales are going down on the up or staying constant. Does anymore have any ideas on how best to acheive this.
I've been trying to make a "pivot table" of sorts, but I'm having trouble because I need to have a few columns - I wanted to have a "planets" column, then a "Weight" column and a "mass on planet", so that when a weight is entered the "mass on planet" comes up I've worked out how to use the drop down list so only one planet comes up at a time, but I still can't work out why I can't have three columns - it just doesn't let me make an empty column that can be filled out. Step-by-step instructions would be GREATLY appreciated as this is my first attempt at excel.
On another note I have a task to use excel "creatively", any ideas? I need to put in graphs, is it maybe possible to also put in GIF's?
- a list of data - a pivottable based on these data
When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.
This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.
I'm trying to write a macro that will create a pivot table, and am getting an Error code 1004: Cannot Open Pivot Table Source File "Sheetname". My code is below. I've tried to note what each section does, and it all seems to work well except for the Pivot Table creation.
I have a worksheet with two pivot tables, one of which is visible to the user. Ideally, the user should be able to change the "Row Label" field settings of the visible pivot table and then press an "update button" that then adds the same field to the second pivot table.
Ideally, the ordering of the fields should also be made similar between the two tables, though this is of less priority.
I imagine it would be something in the style of:
"If number of Pivot1 active row label fields = X then Pivot 2.AddRowLabelField = Pivot1.RowLabelField(X) end if"
I've got a spreadsheet with several rows and the numbers within those rows are totalled up at the bottom. Is there a way where i can highlight the cell within the spreadsheet and it takes it off the accumulative total at the bottom? or something similar to this effect? I just don't want to have to remove figures from this spreadsheet and highlighting will be a good way of seeing what has been done
I have data that develops 3 to 4 pivot table each day. I would like to know if there is a way to change the date on one of the pivot table and have the other pivot tables date change to match with the first pivot table. At this time I am going to all 3 or 4 pivot table to select the correct date. The date is in the page position of the pivot table. I have attached a small sample of the data and the pivot tables.
I learnt that " " & can combine the text and figure. However, when it comes to a negative numbers, i dont know how to maneouver it. Eg, Cell A1 is USD(50,000.00) and the comment in Cell B1 is Cost is USD(50,000.00). So the function in B1 = "Cost is "& what to put here?
I have a macro that works but was wondering if there is an easier way to shorten up the part of the code that is very repetitive with an array or ? Nothing I have tried works except the code below.
Code: Sub ClearAndReset() Dim WS1 As Worksheet Set WS1 = ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Stocks") WS1.Unprotect Application.EnableEvents = False With WS1
I have over 500 labels in a userform and each labels content is gathered from an workbok like this:
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize() CommandButton3.SetFocus Application. ScreenUpdating = False Workbooks.Open "V:allaBeredningSemesterstänging Medleverantörer och Verkstäder.xls" Sheets("2006").Select ' Sheets(Year(TODAY())).Select LabelA1 = Range("A1")...............
I have shortened the code and I haven't yet written all labes. The ... is supposed to mean "from" and "to". I don't want to write over 500 lines of the label codes. So what is an easier way to write it?
in excel, is there a place called data analysis under tools? im an exchange student in sweden andthe work that teacher gave me is half swedish and half english.. im looking for histogram there.
I have a pivot table in the first sheet which includes the field "Date" as a column label.
In the remaining sheets, except for one, there are pivot tables based on the same underlying dataset which also include the field "Date" as a column label.
I would like to adjust the selection (i.e., exclude some dates) from the column label in the first sheet and see if it is possible to make the same adjustments automatically to the pivot tables in the remaining sheets as well.
note that the field "Date" is used as a Column label, i.e., it is not a Report filter.
My input data for Pivot table has a column named "Month". The month values are like April 07, April 08, Nov07 in random order for period between Jan 07 to Aug 08.
When I create a pivot Table, this column is sorted alphabetically (April 07 is followed by April 08) but I need it to be sorted in the ascending order with respect to month (April 07 is followed by May 07).
I further use this data to plot a Pivot Chart. There is another issue here. I want to use separate colors for each series. I do not know how to achieve above 2 things.
I have a pivot table that I created and now I want to use the same pivot cache to create another pivot table instance on a different worksheet. how can I do that? My first worksheet gets saved as "OO By buyer" and now I want to create a new worksheet and drop the next pivot there.
I'm not grasping the Pivot Table correctly. I've written code to create a sum of values based on a worksheet. Specifically:LocationIDDeptSum of Hours Worked. Location, ID and Dept are rows. This effectively provides the aggregate values that I need based on the row groupings. Here's where this is falling apart. I need to create a new worksheet based on these values. I assumed the three row values - Location, ID and dept - would be in a hierarchy. It's possible they are, I just can't figure out the object model.
When I loop through the PivotItems collection of the PivotFields("Location"), I get what I need. However, I'm unable to determine how to loop through the child values (just for that location). PivotFields("ID") returns all IDs. I can't figure out how to return only the child entries for each pivot item. GetPivotData hasn't been very useful for this. As far as I can tell, GetPivotData, while its return type is listed as Range, throws an error when more than one cell is returned. Worst case, I suppose I can just parse the data in the DataBodyRange of the pivot table - maybe not, I haven't tried that. I'm hoping there's a way to iterate through these collections, but based on what I've seen from Google searches, there may not be. Does my pivot table need to be rearranged? I suppose I could also just dump this data into a data table
