Import A Text File From A Specific Folder Into A Sheet Without Split It To Columns
Sep 26, 2007
I have a variable list. Each column will be 250 digits and numbers of rows will be variable. I want a macro to import a text file from a specific folder into a sheet without split it to columns. So we will work only in column A
Then macro will find B1002 wording in A1. if it is exist, it will copy the next 36 digits after B1002 wording if not then it will search A2 row. The next step will be to search and find another wording "B1001" if it finds it will replace copied 36 digits text. If it can not find B1001 wording it will go to upper row and search B1001 wording here and paste the text. This will go on till row shows #END. This means it reached the end of the list. And then macro will save this file as text file to another folder.
So macro will go to beginning to open other file in the folder and this will go on till last file in the folder.
This is the logic of the macro. Here is the sample of what I want.
I have an Excel workbook with 2 worksheets in it. One of the worksheets imports a txt file and then the other worksheet displays data that formulas I have written have collected.
I usually import the txt file by running through the many steps with the "import data" option. This is good but I want it to be faster.
I used the macro recorder and ended up with the following code
I have a .txt file (comma separated) that updates daily, which I need to import into Excel. The .txt file contains data from many years, but I only need the data from 2012. Is there a way to only import rows where the data in column "yearID" equals 2012? Since this is a daily operation, I'd rather not import all the rows and then sort/delete rows every time.
I am trying to split names across columns. The problem is that some names spilt into 3 columns (first, middle, last), and others split across 5 or 6 (extra names, etc.)
Is there a way to specify split, using SPACE as a delimiter, but only split on the first TWO spaces, then leave the rest alone?
I have a macro which imports data from a mainframe dump text file and performs 'Text to Columns' on the imported data so that formula in the spreadsheet can act on the data. The code works perfectly well when I use it, but if a different user logs on and performs exactly the same mainframe dump and import macro the Text to Columns action splits the raw data in a different way and the result is that the split renders the formulae useless.
I've experimented a little and for some reason it appears that the 'Field Info' parameters which are produced when the Text to Columns function is recorded in a macro differ between users even though the raw data is exactly the same.
I have the attached xl. I want to make import from a specific folder other xl files and after that I want the sheet 1 to find if the values in column g and m (together in the same time) can find it in other xl files. If yes then this values in sheet 1 must turn to red. Can this done?
I have a folder with multiple text files. I want to import one of these files to a sheet called data in an existing Excel file. The excel file has references to this data sheet on other sheets which I want to keep. I want to save this excel file with the name the text file has and repeat this for all the text files in the folder.
I found a macro a while back which does the job nicely of importing and saving the Excel file, however all the data in the other sheets gets lost once it is saved. How to keep the data?
Code:
Sub tgr() Const txtFldrPath As String = "FOLDER WITH TEXT FILES" 'Change to folder path containing text files Const xlsFldrPath As String = "FOLDER FOR EXCEL FILES" 'Change to folder path excel files will be saved to Dim CurrentFile As String: CurrentFile = Dir(txtFldrPath & "" & "*.txt") Dim strLine() As String Dim LineIndex As Long
I have requirement to extact data into a spreadsheet. This data is extracted from CSV file which is huge normally over 7MB. I have found a macro on the internet which I have included with this post.
Sub split() Dim ResultStr As String Dim FileName As String Dim FileNum As Integer Dim Counter As Double 'Ask User for File's Name FileName = InputBox("Please enter the Text File's name, e.g. test.txt") 'Check for no entry If FileName = "" Then End 'Get Next Available File Handle Number FileNum = FreeFile() 'Open Text File For Input Open FileName For Input As #FileNum .................
I have also included reult data that I get after running the macro. I have cut down on data due to attachement restrictions. But usually there are multiple spreadsheets named "Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3 and so on". I have numerous requirements. First of all I want to be able to spreate data into columns. For now how I do that is by going to data -> text to columns and then selcting delmited and then selecting comma as my delimiter. Second thing I want to do is is only extract range of data from this output into a new worksheet. I am only interest in the name like for example ALBANY-Serial0/0/0 and data that is in the range of 8:00 AM to 6:00PM. So the new sheet should only have name and for that name data in the range of 8:00AM to 6:00PM for all the sheets "sheet1, sheet2 etc" until all data has been extracted.
I have several txt files in a folder, say FileA.txt, FileB.txt, etc.
They exceed 1 million rows so I would like to split them, create FileA_1.txt, FileA_2.txt, etc. FileB_1.txt, FileB_2.txt, etc. and store them newly created files in a different location to the original files.
I have a large sheet that I am having some problems with. The information comes from our database. In column A I have a client code and other information over to column D. In columns E I have dates. These dates have comments that are associated with them entered in column F. The problem is that sometimes these comments wrap into the next cell below. I have done this in the past. But the problem is that in column G there are dates of when the action took place, the issue is that there might be 1 or 10 of these dates per client. And then in Column H there are comments as well that spill into the next cell below.
What I need is to have everything in the first line, the client code over to column E, Combining of the cells in column F that were broken over multiple cells, then in Column G the first date and its combined actions to the right. The next row might have no client code but might have another date in Column G and comments in column H.
This is really hard to explain what I am looking for exactly. I have attached a small file that has an example of what might be downloaded and then a sheet of what I need it to look like when it is done.
i'd like to be able to import a list of file names from a folder. sounds fairly straight forward to me, but example:
folder a has 10 files in it (let's say PDFs - numbered 1 through 10). I'd like to be able to open the spread sheet, and see the file names in column b. ideally, i'd also like subfolders to be listed, in the next column. but, let's start with just this.
I make calculations for these projects using an excel file. In this excel I also type the projectnumber (cell J2)
Now i would like to make a button. When pressed, it checks the projectnumber cell J2, looksup the corresponding folder and saves the excelfile in PDF format in this folder.
I have found macro to find files in folders, but none which do the above.
I am trying to open a website, then for excel to download the csv file, then for it to save it in a specific folder under a specific name and file format (excel).
I am successful at opening the website with the following code, but how to do the rest.
Sub Searchez() Dim IE As Object Set IE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application") IE.Navigate "http://quote.morningstar.ca/Quicktakes/stock/keyratios.aspx?t=clwr®ion=USA&culture=en-CA&ops=clear" 'load web page google.com IE.Visible = True While IE.Busy DoEvents Wend
'IE.Navigate2 "javascript:SRT_keystuts.exportcsv()" 'this is the name of the download link as from when i hover my pointer over download link. End Sub
i want to import a file called "export" into my work sheet, I recorded this macro
Sheets.Add ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add(Filename:= _ "C:Documents and SettingsmattDesktopexport.csv", Link:=False, _ DisplayAsIcon:=False).Select
which works as long as it is on matt's pc and on my desktop, what i need is to import the file from the same folder the work sheet is stored in, that way it will work on any pc?
I would like to use FileDailogFolderPicker object to prompt the Excel User (me!) to browse to the location of the folder which is required to execute the code below; at the moment I have to change the file path in the VBA code each time I run the macro. The code is run on a Click Event button at present.
Private Sub GetGPCFiles_Click() test End Sub
Sub test() Dim myDir As String, fn As String, ff As Integer, txt As String, a() Dim x, i As Long, n As Long, b(), t As Long myDir = "Y:DCCRSP07RSPWE191007131007GPC" 'Have to input this path manually fn = Dir(myDir & "*.gpc") Do While fn <> "" ff = FreeFile Open myDir & "" & fn For Input As #ff Do While Not EOF(ff) Line Input #ff, txt x = Split(txt, ",") n = n + 1 Redim Preserve a(1 To n) a(n) = x Loop
If I'm using this function to find the specific text "EXPIRED" in the specified cells, how can I add additional cell ranges on the same sheet to this function?
Actually i've downloaded Tracking report of my SPO and this report is on 4-5 csv files (1 file per week). I have to gather data from these 4 files into one Worksheet. I have to do this with command button on my worksheet; with Open file dialogue box (i want to locate the csv files).
CSV files are something like that (I need only first 4 columns):
and my Worksheet is like that (With a command Button):
I want to import first 3 columns of csv file on first 3 columns on my worksheet; leave 2 columns blank and then import the 4th column... now for example i have done importing data from 1st csv file and the data is on 50 rows.. i click the command button again, locate the 2nd csv file.. do the same thing (import 1st 3 columns, 2 blank, then 4th) --from 51st Row-- and so on...
importing some selective data from txt file to excel. Only the following rows I need to pull out from text file into the Excel i.e. Project row, installation row, and two rows immediately below the installation row. This is my logical procedure..
1. Macro look for the rows that contains the word "PROJECT"
2. Open an excel file
3. Pull the row from txt file to this new excel file.
4. Macro look for the rows that contains the word "INSTALLATION"
3. Pull that row with INSTALLATION AS WELL AS Two rows immediately below the INSTALLATION row.
I have been using the attached to pull multiple csv files into seperate sheets. This takes all files from a user specified directory and dumps them into a workbook. I only need three specific files. How do I request specific files instead of a wild card.
I have a folder called "Report" at C: and inside this folder there are 12 folder named from 1 to 12 ("1","2",...,"12")
I need a macro to save my workbook as a file in C:Report(one of these folders depending on the month of a certain cell)
i.e. if the date in this cell is 8/12/2012 .. then save my file in C:Report12*.xlsm
This is the code i use
Code: Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() Dim fname As String fname = Format$(Range("S8"), "dd-mm-yyyy") On Error Resume Next ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:Reort" & fname & ".xlsm" End Sub
So what i need now is what to insert after C:Report
I have a macro which saves file to a specific folder. Problem is I can save the file only in my local drive C: but not on a server for some reason. Here is the At home in my home computer this code worked when C: was selected.
ChDir ("c:") Title = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(Name, "Excel files (*.xls), *.xls") ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Name Save the file in specific place
But when I substituted C: path with my server path it doesnt work! Have a look. Its the exact same code except my path is different.
ChDir ("\Lnf001Lnf1vol1SharedOP_ENGWork Order") Title = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(Name, "Excel files (*.xls), *.xls") ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Name
I am trying to write a macro to find a file in a specific folder. The file name changes weekly. (Ex. C:My Folder31207.xls). I need to find the most recently modified version of the file and open it.
I have a workbook with many spreadsheet named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. Each sheet is filled completely upto 65536 rows. This data is being picked up from a CSV file. In this file there are sites with each site there is a assciated set of data. What happens is the data that extracts data does not differntiate between sites and when it reaches to the end of worksheet it splits the data into next sheet. So I am trying to create a macro to check each spreadsheet starting with the last sheet in the work book for example last sheet in the workbook is seven it should go to sheet6 and if there is a blank row after row 64000 it should cut all the rows and move them to sheet7. Then it should goto sheet5 and do the same and keep on doing it until it reaches sheet1.
I can't figure out how to delete the attached files that are irrelevant and I can't figure out how to upload new ones. I also don't know how to word what I need to happen
I want the data from everything, starting from row 5 and going to row 100, and not include column B or E.
How do I grab just that data? I have different formulas in each document. This is for invoicing, so the columns with the $ numbers can't be changed and I haven't been able to figure out how to not overwrite them when importing another spreadsheet.
The code below looks at file names in column A and then goes to a folder and opens and copies the data in range c2 -lastrow from each file and pastes the data into sheet2.
how I could add to the code so that it also inserts the file name in column c?
It would make it easier to track the data in column B.
VB: Sub CopyFromFile() Dim fPath As String Dim lRow As Long
[Code].....
I have attached a sample workbook. The list of file name is in sheet 1. An example of the output is in sheet 2. The data in column A is dummy data generally spans 100's of rows not just 10 as in the example.
The purpose of the code is to be able to put a list of file names in column a in sheet 1 and extract data from those files in a folder. The data extraction works fine. The reson for adding the file names is so that I know what file the data came from.
