Insert, Read And Manage Comments Fields

I know how to insert, read and manage comments fields in Excel, however I want to be able to refer to a comment in another spreadsheet. For example

Spreadheet One contains a series of figures, against one of which a comment has been attached.

Spreadsheet Two has links pulling information from cells in various spreadsheets including the cell in Spreadsheet One which has the comment.

One Column For Three Comments Fields

Need one column to combine three columns I have a in a spreadsheet.

Column A - Comments
I have a comment called Duplicate or blanks

Column B - Comments 2
I have a comment called Loss Fund or blanks

Column C - Comments 3
I have a comment of Y or N

I just a want formulae which put the following in one column
Where it is Duplicate in Column A
Where it is Loss Fund in Column B
Where it is Y in Column C

So I have one field for all comments.

I have created a worksheet to be used by a number of people at work and my issue is how to add sufficient instructions for some of the less tech minded users.

I have entered text in the comment box to 'assist', but would like to add either a picture WITH the text or something to the effect of "for further asistance and make the last part a hyperlink.

Insert Cell Comments Based On Value In Another Workbook

I need a macro that will do the following scenarios.

1. I have two workbooks.

a. The first contains a sheet with " Names" listed in column A.

b. The 2nd contains a sheet with "Names" listed similar to first workbook. The only difference is that the 2nd workbook contains 2 other columns, "Age" in B and "Address" in C.

2. Only the 1st workbook is opened.

3. When I click a name in the 1st workbook, it will look for a match with that of the 2nd workbook.

a. If there's a match, it will copy the corresponding "Age" and "Address" and display them as comment to that name in the 1st workbook.

b. Else, it will display a comment that no record was found.

Excel 2010 :: Insert Column And Add Fields

I have an Excel spreadsheet that where the headings start in row 5. Data starts in row 6.

The spreadsheet is updated frequently. The headings are always the same but the number of lines of data changes.

D5 = Units1 (field contains numbers or is blank)
E5 = Units2 (Field contains numbers or is blank)

I would like to insert a column to the right of Column E and add D + E in the inserted cell. I would like F5 to be called NewUnits.

Some cells in Columns D and E are blank. No cell in Column A is blank. (If cell A6 is the activecell and you press CTRL + Down Arrow Key -- you will get to the last cell with data in Col A. That is not the case if the activecell was E6 as there are blanks.)

I am using Excel 2010.

VBA To Read Text Formula And Related Constants And Insert As Formula Into Cell

I have a situation where I have to curve fit data, this can lead to different formulas being used with varying constants.

Is it possible to pickup a TEXT based formula and related constants from other cells, and then place this into another cell as a functioning formula. For Example

Cell A1 contains the formula as a text string whether it be y=a+bx+cx^2, or y=a+b/x, etc
Cells A2:A6 contain the individual constants, a, b, c, etc

I would then want the VBA to read the text based formula and put it into an output cell as a functioning excel formulae.g

In cell B10: =a+b*A10+c*A10^2

I understand picking the constants up and putting the formula should not be too much of an issue, however trying to insert the variable form of the curve fit is the part that I am struggling with, and am unsure if possible.

I'm having trouble trying to come up with a way to insert data fields into a spreadsheet form. I have a travel authorization form that I would like to have automatically fill in the required fields based on typing in a name. i.e. I would type in an employees name, and it would automatically fill-in the correct address, etc for that employee. I have attached a spreadsheet that contains one sheet as the form, and another sheet containing the employee data. I know nothing about VBA, but I have a feeling that is where I need to go.

I'm having problem in managing 4000 checkboxes in a sheet. My sheet containt 2000 rows with 2 coloum of checkboxes. The question is, how to know when checkbox tick in one coloum then it will automatically tick the other one. I know how to do it with small quantity of checkboxes (i.e.: 10 checkboxes). But 4000 checkboxes make me headache.

Manage File With Bunch Of Tabs?

I just inherited an excel spreadsheet that has 10 tabs per every month in the year. Right now it is not that bad as there are only two months in the spreadsheet but I can see this being a headache to tab through later on in the year.

My initial thought is to make a table of contents worksheet that has a bunch of buttons (with macros) to hide/show tabs based on month. (Note: It would not make sense to consolidate the month worksheets into one as each worksheet already has a lot of data in it to begin with.

Manage Addin Behaviour Via Registry

Is it possible to make a setting in the registry, so next time excel opens
the addin is not "marked" in the addins-list. I can't do it manually because, because the close_event in the addin will be executed and that will screw things up.
Currently I'm looking at the regkeys: addin-manager and options, I see a change in the registry if I close XL when I unchecked an addin from the addin-list. It looks promising, but Iám not familiar with it

File May Be Read-Only, Or You May Be Trying To Access A Read-Only Location

I'm trying to open a file on a network drive...but I'm getting the following error message when it opens: "This file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding." Now, the file itself has no rights restrictions and is not read only. It doesn't appear to be locked.

Now, there are other Excel files in the same directory which I could open fine; however, the Excel documents having the above problem all have a little black icon "appears to be a padlock" (image attached) at the bottom left hand side of the Excel file icon. I tried the following:

- Renaming
- Converting to a different file format (didn't work, it won't let me)
- Opening in notepad...etc doesn't work.

This file is dated back in 2004...do you think it's corrupt? Is there anything i can do to open or recover this?

I have been working on a spreadsheet to manage my players in a virtual sports game. I have worked out that the optimum skill scores for all the positions and want a way to compare a player to the optimum.

For example:

These are the averages for Position 1

How do I find the player who closest matches this optimum. Players have scores in the same 7 skill areas.

How To Manage New Year File Name Change When Linked To External Workbooks?

I have a set up a workbook which is linked to numerous other workbooks to provide a summary of information in one location.

However, when we reach April the names of all the linked worksheets will change from 'name 09 - 10' to 'name 10 - 11'.

What is the best way of handling this transition, will I have to manually change all of the links?

I have attached a much simplified example, unfortunately I cannot post the original due to sensitive data.

Also, how would you allow cells with comments to be copied and pasted without pasting the comments?

I also have an aside question about the forum advanced search. When searching for multiple search words, how would you type the search to include all words, for example, "prevent" & "paste" & "comments".

Manage "empty" Dates From DTPicker Control

I'm having a problem with a form where I have created several DatePicker controls.
Once the user select the control and select a date, it's saved on a cell (all the data is stored as a record, including dates). However, the user could not select a date, and, in this case, I should record nothing on that cell. What I have done is to enable the checkbox property.. so I assumed that the date is valid if this checkbox is checked (however, I don't know how to validate if this checkbox is checked or not). The checkbox property for the date picker is a yes/no value that just show the control as enabled/disabled whether you check or not that checkbox.

Question I have is: How can I do to see if I should be saving a date or not on the cell? I have tried different formulas without success. Sometime works and sometime no. I'm using the following code to validate if the user has selected a date:

If IsNull(DTPicker18.Value) = False Then
Worksheets("DAT").Cells(nPubRow, 37).Value = DTPicker18.Value
Else
' If the user deselected the checkbox I should delete the cell content...

What happens is that sometimes this condition returns True.. but others it returns a 0:0:00 value that is not null.

Manage A List- List Full With Numbers In A Column

1- I have a list full with numbers in a column. And I want to count how many digits are there in every cells. If digit of the number is less than 7, macro will complete it to 7 digits by adding 0 (zero) at the beginning of the number.

Example: A1 = 85468... A1 value is 5 < 7 in this case our number will be 0085468 (total 7 digits)

PS: sometime, when numbers start with 0 (zero), excel delete all 0 value at the beginning of the numbers. Macro should prevent this error.

2- I have another list with 2 columns which arranged in order. I mean:
A1=xx1, B1=xx2, A2=xx3, B2=xx4, A3=xx5, B3=xx6... etc. One is at A column, next number in B column.

My request is I want to make this list 1 column as arranged.
A1=xx1, A2= xx2, A3=xx3, A4=xx4... etc.

3- Macro will add a new line to the end of the above list with this format:
Z00001xxxx

Z00001 is static
xxxx is number of the full cells of A column plus 1. It will be 4 digits. If count is less than 4, it will complete it to 4 digits.
Example: if there are 15 cells in the list, last line will Z00010016 (15 + 1)

I know that you can add a comment to a cell using a statement like

Range("A1").AddComment "Hello"
But is it possible to add more text to that comment using VBA?
I tried things like

Range("A1").AddComment "Hello."
Range("A1").Comment = Range("A1").Comment + " How are you?"
but I guess I can't alter the comment that way.

im using comments to display images for easy look up

when i save a picture i want it to be that size when i hovver over the comment

but when i insert the picture it doesnt open the size that i saved it as

i manually have to resize the image so its legible

why is this and is there a way round this?

For each cell, instead using a comment, I need another way to show a large amount of principaly letter texts, without using hypervincules, and ofcourse comments.

By the way, the same text I enter or modify put in this "way", I need to modify in the MSWord document and viceversa.

I appreciate the linking do not open another app, because the large amount of them I need to work with.

I have a sub that works just fine, but I need to test it for blanks.

I only have 1 line of test in the a4:a23 range - so I'm getting 19 spaces before the text in the comment. If the cells within a4:a23 are blank, how do I ignore them? I'm not sure how to interpret this code, so I'm sure it's probably easy:

cCom.Text Text:=rCell.Text & " " & cCom.Text
