I started in the Data Validation List Source to fill in IF function but 32 inputs are not accepted and too much caracters in the source.

VBA To Choose The Source Cells For A List With Data Validation
Mar 10, 2008when you choose Data Validation for a specific cell, you can choose list. Once you have chosen list for "Allow", you can select the source cells for what will be in the drop-down menu. I want to be able to use VBA (or just use Excel) to modify those source cells.
For example:
There will be 3 lists with drop-down menus using Data Validation.
List 1:
Choose first option in list -> List 2 uses source A
Choose second option in list -> List 2 uses Source B
etc...
List 2:
Choose first option in list -> List 3 uses source C
Choose second option in list -> List 3 uses source D

Example:
Cell "A1" on worksheet 2 displays the 3rd slot of information from list source on worsheet 5. I want cell "A1" on worksheet 2 to update when the list source information in the 3rd slot on worksheet 5 is changed.
Notes:
The list is set up by naming the columns on Worksheet 5 and is set as a validation list on the other worksheets. So on Worksheet 2 column "A" has the validation
VB:
AutoLinked keywords will cause extra spaces before keywords. Extra spacing is NOT transferred when copy/pasting, but IS if the keyword uses "quotes".

Link To External Source Workbook For Data Validation Lookup Values Returns Zeros
Mar 25, 2014Say I have Source Workbook X 1, and Destination Workbooks X 4. The Source workbook contains a number of lookup values. I want the lookup values to be maintained in the single Source workbook, and I want this workbook to remain closed when the end users are using their Destination workbooks. It is critical that certain cells in the Destination workbooks have validated data in order for formulas and summarizations to be correct.
I'm happy if the Destination workbooks contain a lookup worksheet (perhaps hidden). In short, I'd like the contents from the Source workbook, Lookups worksheet, to just be replicated "as is" into the Destination workbooks, Lookups worksheet. I then want to do my data validation from that worksheet, which of course is open (data validation appears to only work with open workbooks).

Questions:
1) Are the techniques in that link about the best approach? i.e. an external link plus array formulas?
2) A blank cell in the source workbook (text column but formatted as General) is resulting in a zero in the external link. How can I make the external link exactly match the text as entered in the source workbook?

Because VBA uses the 1900 date system, and some workbooks use the 1904 date system, I have to first check and see if a workbook uses the 1904 date system, and if so, subtract off 1462 days where appropriate. My macros used to check the date system by using the command:

nh_stringToDate = nh_stringToDate - 1462

But, sometimes the macro resides in one workbook (call it macro.xls) but the currently active workbook is some other workbook (something.xls). What I really care about is the date system of macro.xls and NOT something.xls. So, instead of "ActiveWorkbook" is there some other object I can use to refer to the workbook in which the macro itself resides? I don't want to rely on using the name of the macro workbook (macro.xls) because this could change! So I need a way to simply refer to the workbook in which the macro resides.

Workbook1 contains validated list which is defined by a Range name and also its data is pulled from workbook2. I am unable to change the value of the validated list from drop down when i close workbook2, infact the validation drop down list do not drop at all so that can select values from it. But if i open the workbook2 i am able to change the values of the validation list.
I want the dropdown list to be active when i close the second workbook.

Jun 26, 2007It can be done using named ranges. Name the range of the source list and set the validation to List =name. Sheet location does not matter.
I can get it to work using Indirect - but this puts a limitation on the process that the source must be open. Mike, perhaps you could explain more fully how you are achieving this?

Project Routine List: Printout Of Each Routine Name And Which Module It Resides In
Feb 22, 2007I am in the process of re-building a major project due to bugs. In the process, I plan to re-organize my sub-routine grouping within modules. In the source file, I have 18 standard modules, with 10-30 routines in each one.
What I would like is a printout of each routine name and which module it resides in, so I can check off each one as I copy it and paste it into the new file. I see that I can get a psuedo tree-view of my project in th eObject Browser, but can't figure out how to print that.
Data Validation - Source Currently Evaluates To Error
Apr 28, 2014I am currently creating a form to hold 2 drop down lists that change depending on the selection in the first one. I had never done this before and taught myself and got it to work minus one problem. As soon as I input the formula under the Data Validation the error: "The Source currently evaluates to an error. Do you want to continue?" pops up. Right now the formula works except for the last 6 options in my first drop down. When I select them nothing pops up in the 2nd drop down menu. I have double checked and triple checked that I have no spaces or anything in my LIST on worksheet 2 or any of the names are input correctly.
A7 is the first drop down - PROPOSED
B7 the second. - ITEM #
Lists and data to populate the lists are on worksheet 2 with the "List" at the bottom of worksheet 2...

Aug 12, 2009I need to copy a range of values (actually two ranges). The ranges are of fixed size. Le't say A2:D20 and E2:H20.
Both workbooks have the exact same layout, and they both have the same named worksheet (in this case it's called Entry). However the actual filename of the source workbook is unknown. I know numerous users have changed the filename of the xls file.
I want to instruct them to open the old and new workbook, and open a third workbook containing the copy macro, they run the macro and it copies the data.
How can I reference a known worksheet name but of an unknown workbook name esp when the source and destination share the worksheet name?

Reference A Source Workbook By Having The Title In Destination Workbook?
Jun 6, 2014I want see if it's possible to take the name of the source workbook and put it in a cell in my destination workbook and then use that as the reference in formulas. The source document title includes a date that changes yearly, or in some instances changes entirely, and I want to keep the formulas in the destination workbook intact. I don't want to have to go to every instance where I have used the source workbook and change the title. Instead I would like to copy the source workbook title, paste it into the destination in the same cell and have that propogate the needed changes into the destination workbook formulas.

Sep 9, 2006I'm not sure if its possible to do what I want. I'm trying to do it without VBA as my users might have a high macro security setting.
I have a validation dropdown in A2 where they pick 'yes' or 'no' for FLSA. I would like B2 to be a dropdown (validation, listbox, whatever) that would change based upon A2. If A2 is 'yes' I want to use the data in A5:B7 and if its 'no' use A10:B12. Ultimately I want B2 to equal one of the numbers from A5 - A7 or A10 - A12. However when they click on the drop down they see the combo of column A and columb B as column A has no meaning for the user.

May 15, 2009I have tried putting in the Row Source in the Properties of ListBox1, (A10:A13) but the range is in another worksheet called Codes. So when I run the Form the list box shows the range A10:A13 in the current sheet. I have named the data list SP but when I punch that in it will not accept it in the Row Source.
