how I can match an item in a row with another row?
I have a row of data A2:J2. A persons name could be in any column in that row.
I have another two rows of data where the peoples name and department name appear Where L2:L7 = peoples names
where M2:M7 = peoples department
I want to match a name in A2:J2 with one in L2:L7 and if matched put the department name in K2. Then obiviously i will copy the formular down column K.

I need some way that can identify when the item in the description column doesnt match the first item of the same number- for example, here the 1-blue and 3-orange would be flagged because they should match the 1-yellow and 3-green.
I need to do this on a much larger scale (approximately 20,000 data points), so I wanted to create a formula or macro that could do this for me.. I thought making a reference page with would work but I keep getting an error.. I haven't done VBA in a while, so I may have syntax errors.

I also have 2 userforms which either add or delete managers names from the dynamic range, this all works well.
What I need to do when using the Delete form is to check that the managers name is not selected in any cell of Col D in the "PartTimeStaff" worksheet - this is to ensure the user has reassigned the records to another manager before deleting selected manager on ListBox1within this form.

I have created a drop down list for items we quote on. each item has a different formula depending on the variables on sheet one Sheet1. I have listed the formulas in the column next to the drop down list for each item, but our now need the main quote to put in the formula in another cell when the item is chosen from the drop down list.

*CommandButton1 = Execute the macro
*Excel Column "B3" = Where the textbox2 data will be compared. this one has default data.
*Excel Row 2 = the identifier where to put the "X" mark when the data is found.
The user will enter data in textbox2, For each TextBox2 Value it will be compared in the Data in Column B3 only If the Textbox1 Value found in Row2 which has the codes. Then when the Value is found. it will mark with "X" in the column where the TextBox1 value found. see my screenshot.

I think the code may be along the lines of the ListBox SelectedIndex property. What would be the Excel VB code equivilant for the ListBox SelectedIndex property, if so?
I am getting close to finishing the drop down menu capability when filling in column L in tab Transactions. However, there is a snag. When I enter part of account say "fin" (the important part here is that the part of the word should not be the beginning of the account name) - then I select an account from the menu - but it does not stay in the cell if the part of the name is the beginning of the account name - all is fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using a vlookup and have a problem. I am assigning a category to an item number based on the first two characters of the item number. For example item number 60123 would equal scrap because of the first two characters of 60. But the item number can begin with either a number or letter. Here is the formula I am using that works for item numbers that begin with numbers:
=VLOOKUP(VALUE(LEFT(E2,2)),Sheet3!A:B,2,FALSE)
It works fine until I reach a item number that begins with a letter, then I get the dreaded #Value error. If I take the value out of the formula then it works for the letter based number items but not for the number based item numbers.
Here I would like to get your valued guidance for the usage of "IF" formula. I am having two sheets one is new XL-1 and other is old XL-2. I want to have a item number from the old file corresponding to the same item descprition in the new file. I am attaching the snap shots of two files which is more explanatory than describing in words here.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having some trouble getting a formula to work. I am building a report that pulls figures from a pivot table in another workbook. I am using a vlookup with match function to get the column index to find the relevant data I want. Where I need to add two columns together I am using sum, with the vlookup & match formulas nested in them e.g.:

Where:
F13 = Employee number
Column C on the pivot 156 workbook is where the employee number is based.
The Match formula is then getting the column index from the column headings of the pivot table ie. "FAID"
This in itself works fine, as long as it finds a match in the column headings. This is where i get the error as in the above function "COMD" is not in the pivot table. However I need to keep it included as it may appear on a future pivot table. Is there a way of getting the sum function to complete even though later in the formula it can't complete the vlookup? So it will ignore it, or assume the value is zero if it can't find it? The formula probably needs to do this for all the vlookups as some headings may drop off in future pivot tables.
I am trying to match data from 2 independent sets, formatted slightly differently so not sure which function would work best for me. From the attached file, I am trying to match the date and time stamp (in cell A1) with that from the other data (in this example in cell E1) and return the data (from cell F1) to cell C1. So basically any date and time stamp before 04/03/09 04:00 will return a value of 44 (this value should appear, therefore in cells C1 - C30)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a WB with multiple sheets. I have a Feed sheet that automatically pulls data from the web. I have a Scores sheet that currently has all head to head matchups each week for an entire season. So I want to check the cells on the Feed! sheet to find a partial match and if partial match exists then copy cell that contents score from feed sheet to the score sheet next to the appropriate teams name. Currently I have to manually enter all scores each week for the rest of my WB to update.
I need to look at Cell A3 (on the Feed sheet) which has "New York Jets" then search for a partial/similar match on the score Sheet (which is NY JETS, in this case). NY JETS could be in column B (rangeB2:B257) OR column D (rangeD2:D257) BUT I need to search by row, not column, then once a match is found check the cell to the immediate right and only if the cell is blank copy data from the (!feed) sheet to that blank cell on the (!scores) sheet
This is what happens if working right =
look at cell A3 on the (!feed) sheet = "New York Jets" then search (!scores) sheet Column B and Column D by row for a partial match, finds "NY JETS" as match in cell D8, if cell E8 is blank then copies cell H3 from (!feed) sheet, and pastes to cell E8 on the (!scores) sheet, if cell is not blank continues search until 1st blank cell to the right of matching cell is found (as there will be mutiple matching cells with blank cells to the right but I am only interested in the 1st blank cell found, once found and data copied the process is done and then starts over with cell A4)
Look at cell A4 (!feed)= "New England Patriots" then search (!scores) sheet Column B and Column D by row, finds "NEW ENGLAND" as match in cell B8, if cell C8 is blank then copies cell H4 (!feed) sheet, and paste to cell C8 (!scores)
Once this is done it moves on to the next cell in the next row on the (!feed) sheet, A5, to find a partial match for the data in that cell. I need to continue the search for each cell A3 to A74, and if no match is found to move on to the next cell A6... (based on the way the data is pulled in from the web there are some blank cells as well as some cells that say Game Final, this data won't be on the scores sheets in column B or D).
We know how INDEX/MATCH works, and it's very nice. I attached a COUNTIF to it to count how many times the index finds itself on another table; if it doesn't find itself, then it goes blank. However, this time I need to count how many times it finds a certain string condition in the other table.

I need a formula to return the value at the cross section of two (2) lookup values that match. This formula will be input into column D under, "RATE" on the 1st tab, "TEST FILE".
In the 1st tab, "TEST FILE" there are a series of columns as follows;
A = Service
B = From
C = To
D = Rate
In the 2nd tab, "RATES" there is a series of rates with drivers From (green) & To (blue)
The formula needs to do the following;
1. Lookup the "From" value in column B on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to column B2:B59 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in green
2. Then Lookup the "To" value in column C on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to row C1:BH1 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in blue
3. Then return the value at the cross section of the match "From" (point 1 above) & "To" (point 2 above) in range C2:BH59
For Example;
The rate From SYD To CBR = 0.33. I have highlighted this in yellow on both tabs to show where the formula needs to lookup the data to return the answer.
Additionally, if we were to add service as an additional lookup match how would this work?

gave me an error but when I did an individual match to both John and Sedgw, it works.

What im trying to do is match columns A & B from AUDIT Sheet to Columns A & B in MASTER sheet. If they match then pull columns C, D & E from MASTER into AUDIT.
I have two sheets of data , sheet A and Sheet B.
Sheet B contains a column called "Name" and for each name, and for each name there are corresponding numbers. In sheet A, I have a "list of interest" in column A. What i want to do look through the data in sheetB to find a match from the list of interest and return the corresponding letters, located in column A.
I have filled out the first two rows of results that should be returned as an example.
One idea i had was to put a vlookup formula in each column result 1 to result 6 so i can catch all 6 "Serves" columns from column B, but there may be duplicates in the serve columns and vlookup only reports the first match.
I need a macro that can search a sheet for a match and then copy all 7 cells to the right of the match. I have attached an example of the sheet that will serve as the database to search, and a userform example that will be similar to the userfrom that will display the copied cells when a match is found. I plan to copy and paste the 7 cells to a different sheet so that the userform can display the results with the control source property. I do not need a way to add to this database. I know very little about searching a database so.

I have my own worksheet with the product ID that we use, and I want to finde the exact match to my product ID in that CSV file and delete all other that don't match.
But i need them get deletede by rows thos product ID that dosen't match to my workbook.
I tried with this, so it could set an X in front of my match then i could filter and copy it to my workbook but it dosen't work:
Because the same product ID is sometime in 100 rows and the X come only in front of one of them.

I think that you can do with using the sumproduct function with the binary, but the computer is a little dated and it takes a while to run those calculations.

I need to copy every row into sheet2 where there are no matches in the column A of the two source worksheets, and copy every row that does have a match in column A into sheet 3. I also need to keep the rows in their current order.

I originally used =IF( $A3<>$H3,"No Match","Match")
The issue is that not all of the company names in column A contain "INC","LLC", "CORP", etc. So, I am not capturing all of the matches.
Example:
Column A: American Eagle Outfitters
Column H: American Eagle Outfitters INC
Is it possible to write a formula with the logic that IF A3 and H3 both contain "American Eagle Outfitter" then "Match" or "No Match"?
Is it possible to return a value or a sum of values using segmented lookup criteria. The Sample 1 spreadsheet (attached) explains it better.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI couldn't resolve the formula of Index-Match for getting the values that matches the following criteria
1) Match the "Category" of Table 1 to Table 2
2) Match the "value" of Table 1 to Table 2, if value is not present in Table 2 take the upper closest value.
Once the above conditions are met, Take the Result from Table 2
Table 1 is for Input and Table 2 is for Database.
Please note that Data in Table 2 should not be sorted in any way. I tried to use the -1 option of the Match function for upper closest value but it didn't work out.
