Object Invoked Error Causing Excel To Crash
Jul 14, 2014
I am receiving the following error:
-2147417848 automation error the object invoked has disconnected from its clients
Unfortunately, I can't tell where the error is occurring because everytime it happens excel crashes or at least stops responding. I tried waiting it out (about 20 minutes) but no luck. the only thing I can do is force the program to shut down through the task manager.
The program is designed to pull information from finviz.com (a financial site), filter the data. pull the next round of data and run the filters again. there are a total of 8 queries and i think it gets hung up during the 6th or 7th run through.
Stepping through the code does not seem practical since each query might pull as many as 300 rows of data that is evaluated in a for/next loop (thats a lot of F8s).

Have a code to clear contents on one of my worksheets and it continually causes excel to freeze and forces me to exit the program. When the button is selected it takes approx. 30-45 seconds to clear the data and then excel freezes up. The code is as follows:
Sub()
Sheets("Sheet1").Range("B2:D16000").ClearContents
End Sub
The data in the range B2:D16000 comes from another macro that copies and pastes values to this sheet. I am also working on the mac 2011 version.

I have created workbooks for four health regions to collect data, which then needs to be resubmitted via FTP, but with de-identified data. The end users have little to no excel experience, thus had to make it simple as possible. Created a button that runs the macro (below) to deidentify (clear) all cells where there could possibly be personal identifying information. Runs fine on my cpu, but one user (so far) has received the error noted in the title. Both running excel 2003 with SP3 (I have version 11.8169.8172, user has 11.8316.8221), I have XP professional SP2, user has XP professional SP3. Spent hours searching and reading suggestions online, to no avail.

I am trying to sort a bunch of data by a custom list from left to right and after running the macro successfully excel crashes upon saving. I have tried this on different computers, resaved, started from scratch and it always crashes so there must be something with the macro that is causing this.
here is my macro:
Edit: It seems that the last line of code is causing my problem. I have started from scratch and gone though all the code one at a time and saved after each run. everything is fine until the "Application.DeleteCustomList Application.CustomListCount" is run. after that excel crashes when saved.
VB:
Sub Macro3()
'
' Macro3 Macro

whether I can handle errors in a way that tells me which object caused the error?
For example if a userform has two combobox's and one causes an error, can I return to a message box containing the name of the object (combobox1 or combobox2)?
I have tried returning err.source but I am either not using it correctly or it isn't intended to be used this way.

I have just signed up to the forums as I am having a very specific problem. I have looked on google and used the search feature (on several forums!) and found very limited information that is useful to me. I am having trouble with a very simple few lines of code in a macro. The code looks like this:
Function startmarketIDs()
Dim targeturl, writerow, readrow, textmass, xmlHTTP
targeturl = "http://lite.betfair.com/ Events.do?s=00010913z"
Set xmlHTTP = CreateObject("Microsoft.xmlHTTP")
xmlHTTP.Open "GET", targeturl, False
xmlHTTP.send
MsgBox xmlHTTP.StatusText
textmass = xmlHTTP.responsetext
MsgBox textmass
End Function
My problem occurs at the line "textmass = xmlHTTP.responsetext". The responsetext command is obviously causing problems because if I remove it, the code executes without error and the "xmlHTTP.statustext" says "OK". With the responsetext command left in, the code generates the following error: Run-time error '-1072896658 (c00ce56e)': System Error: -1072896658. If I change the targeturl to www.betfair.com, the code executes fine and I get a message box (as desired) with the source code of the website displayed. Without meaning to sound like Im answering my own question (!!), perhaps there is something about the url or the way in which I am using the xmlHTTP object that is causing the issue, I wondered if someone would mind inspecting my code and perhaps pointing me in the right direction?

I am having problems with an Excel workbook I am working on. I have a sheet that has a number of controls added to the top of it. Two of these controls are listboxes. My problem is, if I am in the listbox navigating through it, and I accidently move the Mouse Wheel, Excel crashes and I get the usual, "Send Error Report" form.
I have seen that there are other people having this problem and that there are a number of solutions out there but my problem is a bit different. I have a few forms with listboxes on them, and while mouse wheel scrolling doesn't work, it certainly doesn't crash Excel. It only seems to happen when I have a control permanently added to the sheet. Is there any event handler for mouse wheel scrolls or anyway to disable them through VB?

I seem to be coming on here every day at the moment! Someone helped me with this code, it works great apart from 1 error, which stops the script. The lines that appear when i select debug are in italic / bold. The error message appearing is:
"Object invoked has disconnect from its client" or something very similar.
'Define variables.
Dim lngRowPasteTo As Long
Dim codelive, codeclosed, codeassigned, vLookFor As String
'Set variables
vLookFor = "Closed"

codeassigned = "gio3"

I am using this code to open a form in Excel:
Code:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Form1.Show
End Sub
It has worked perfectly for about 2 weeks, well now when I go to open the workbook it gives me the debug error of Run Time error 424 Object Required. I last ran this today at about 8 a.m. no errors, but now about 4 hours later, it is bugging out. What is causing this?

I have some VBA code that in one portion of it an Outlook e-mail is created and the active workbook is attached and sent. This code used to work on Excel & Outlook 2003, but now in Excel & Outlook 2007 I'm getting the error:
Run-time error '429':

and is stopping on the line
Set OutApp = GetObject(, "Outlook.Application")
FY If I comment out the Set OutApp... and If OutApp.... lines and uncomment the Set OutApp create object line, I still get the same error.

Dim Signature As String

A large Excel file that I have been working with for months is now giving me trouble.
When I tried to delete 2 rows, it displayed a message: "Excel cannot complete this task with avail resources. Choose less data or close other applications."
I opened a previously saved version of the file and tried deleting rows, and the same message came up.
I shut down the computer, rebooted, same problem.
Any way to determine if a file has been corrupted .... or even worse ... is there a possibility that my Excel program itself is corrupted?

why this is causing an error upon opening the file. This workbook has a userform with a listbox (single list, single selection), and when I have the ControlSource property set it causes an error upon opening the userform (which opens when the file is opened), whereas if I do not have the ControlSource property set to anything, it seems to work fine.
Interestingly, if I set the file up to not open the userform with the file, and instead have the userform open when a worksheet control such as a command button is clicked, it doesn't seem to matter if the ControlSource property is set or not. The workbook in question is attached.

I have problems with my excel crashing all the time when I try to run my code. It seems to happen in a loop where I open a .txt file and pull data from it, then close it, and open the next one...
There are no error code, just a message that Excel has stopped working and it will be closed, and then it is forced to restart. Just a mess!
This is my loop code:
Code:
Option Explicit
Dim Desktop As String
Sub Open60only()
Desktop = CreateObject("WScript.Shell").SpecialFolders("Desktop") & Application.PathSeparator
Dim which_folder As String, which_file As String, which_string As String, tick As String

I have a spreadsheet which has 3 separate external queries running from worksheet 'A'. My user enters a couple of dates in another worksheet 'B' to supply the date parameters for the query and a macro runs to refresh all of the queries and performs a few calculations.This works fine. The trouble is I don't want the user to be able to view all the data on sheet 'A' only the summary on B. My macro ends up on sheet B but whilst the query is refreshing the raw data is displayed to the user on sheet 'A'. When I hide the sheet 'A' i get a run time error '1004' Select method of worksheet class failed.

Code:
Microsoft Office Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I have created several reports containing pivot charts with slicers, pivot tables and data sets. Total file size is around 5MB. Need to do an update in my pivot table Like adding an additional grouping on one of my dimensions. As soon as I start doing so the Microsoft Excel stopped working error message pops up and my file crashes! Removing existing groupings seems for some reason to be impossible as well: nothing happens when I do this. Ahow to solve this without having to rebuild all my reports?

I am having difficulty getting a form to work the way that I would like it to work. I have a form that is used to display questions that my students will be answering. The form also is used to put the answers into a worksheet. I have 2 sheets. Sheet2 has the questions, student answers, and correct answers. Sheet1 is used to indicate correct answers and to keep track of percentage correct. I am fairly new to VB. I have 2 pieces of code that I am going to post. The first one works and the second one doesn't.
This is in the "This Workbook" section and it works.

Public strNoQ As String
Public NumberofQuestions As Integer
Dim StudentName As String
Dim InputBoxAnswer As String
Public Sub Workbook_Open()

If intNoQ = 1 Then

Questions.Controls("QuestionBox").Value = Worksheets("Sheet2").Range("B1").Value
End If
Questions.Controls("CorrectBox" & strNoQ).Visible = True
Questions.Controls("CorrectLabel" & strNoQ).Visible = True
