Parsing Out Text Which Copies And Pastes Into One Cell
Jul 9, 2013
I have an email sent via pdf and the only way to get this into excel is by copying and pasting and it all shows up in one cell.
Not much to focus on other than reading from left to right, once you see a numeric value, this should be in another cell and once you see "LS or WS or NR or COA, this will begin another cell. I had to add the dots to show where the new cell starts.

I am trying to make a macro, but because of my inexperience, it's not working out. I have got a big list (list 1) of numbers in column E. each number has some information in the cells of columns C, D and L, all in the same row. on the same sheet, I have got another, smaller set of numbers (list 2), also in column E but at the bottom of the sheet. the numbers in list 2 are all present in list 1 (but not all numbers in list 1 are present in list 2). the columns C, D and L on the same row of the numbers in list 2 are empty...............
What i am trying to do is in 1 workbook (labled as Book1 literally), it needs to copy the sheets out of every .xls file there is in a single directory, we'll call C:MyFolderMySubFolder. There can be anywhere between 1 and 366 files in this particular folder and I need all the sheets in each file labled 'CC' copy that entire sheet, paste that sheet to Book1, go back to that file it was copied from, close it (saving changes is ok), then move on to the next file.. and the next file... and so forth
While pasting into book1, I need each WS copied from each file to paste to a new worksheet in book1 rather than combining them into 1 or overwriting, and lable each of those sheets the file name of which the sheet came from...
The names are in sequence. All files in the folder will be labled as a date such as "9-6-12" so the sheet name in book1 would be named 9-6-12. (so there may result in 366 new worksheets to book1)
I have a macro that selects and copies and pastes a range of data from one sheet to another sheet. It works perfectly except it is pasting all the cell formatting and formulas and i only want or need the values.
I currently have the following code that copies a range opens notepad pastes the range opens save dialog and types the file name. The problem I have is with overwriting the existing file.
need to create a macro that inserts 3 rows below each existing row of data and simply copies and pastes that data into each of the empty rows before moving on to the next unique row and doing the same thing again.
This is what I have so far, but I can't seem to get the loop right.
I have a text file that has data at various time steps say 0,1,2,3 etc. In each loop, the output data is recoreded that contains numbers and strings. I want to parse certain info from this text file.
Say I am interested in reading the data for very last time step, so when I open the text file for reading, I want to move down to the Time Step 3 line. Then I want to read the text line by line, any time I encounter the word WIND, I want to skip five spaces and pick up the number that appears there. I want to paste this value to say cell A1 in a sheet called ParsedData. I want to continue reading till the end while picking all such values and filling the ParsedData sheet A2, A3, A4 ... cells till the end.
I need to parse out the different parts of Column M.
In Column R -- "Close Date", I'm successfully using: =LEFT(M2,FIND(" | ",M2)-1)
...to extract the close date of the donation.
In Column S, I want to list the donor name--which is all of the text after " | ", and before the "-".
I don't need anything after the hyphen, and fortunately in this data, no one's name has a hyphen in it.
The Close Date is working fine for the LEFT and FIND functions, but for the life of me, I can't seem to get MID to work for the variable-length text. The text will always start in the same position -- 14, as the date and delimiter are standardized. And the last 5 characters of the text are not variable in length, so they can be cut out completely.
How do I use MID to extract everything starting at position 14, and stopping 5 characters short of the end of the text?
I have attached two files, one the sample txt file imported to excel but the top area is highlighed with some notes and section break. RED deleted don't need amd un highlighted is actual data. The other file is what I would like to see the data look like after parse.
I am reading lines from a textfile. Each line in the textfile has the identical format: textstring1:textstring2. The two strings are always separated by the : character. I have the code to get textstring1, but because I'm a rookie, I can't figure out how to get textstring2. See the code in bold, this is the line I need to get textstring2.
I have a text file which is attached as "rawdata". It contains records of something (let's call it temperature) at different times on different days. My goal is to display a graph of temperature versus time so that I can visually analyze trends. I have hundreds of these files, all of different lengths. it is very important that I automate this process as much as possible.
Detail: (Here I describe what I have done so far; if this is inefficient or unnecessary, feel free to tell me) I open Excel 2010, click File, Open, and select the file that I want to parse. It is a TXT file, so the Text Import Wizard comes up. For step one, I select Fixed Width. I select File Origin: MS-DOS (PC-8). On step 2 of the wizard, I create column break lines to place all dates in the far left column. The next column contains the first column of numbers before the first dash (-). The next column contains only the dash - I will later select "ignore this column" to eliminate them. The next column contains the time stamps. I continue adding column breaks in the wizard until all of the data are parsed into columns in the same manner.
In step 3, I format the first column as "date (DMY)". The columns with the dashes I select "do not import". Everything else is "general". I click "finish", and the resultant workbook is attached, called "import".
Now, as to what I want to do: I want to display the "temperatures" as a graph vs a date/time axis. The reason I find this difficult is because the temperatures and times are not in neat columns, but are in 4 columns that go in a left-to-right and top-to-bottom progression and are broken up every few lines. (I am interested only in numbers that are displayed immediately to the left of a time-stamp. Therefore, the "record #"s should be ignored. We can delete the rows that say "record #" if can be done automatically.)
I have the attached spreadsheet that has 176K of addresses. The cell contains data that is actually Address Line 1 and Address Line 2. I need to separate these. I believe there is an unprintable character that separates most of them -- maybe a CRLF or something like that.
See the attachment for examples ... Cust Address with unprintable characters.xlsx

I'm looking for a formula which can take my original data (column A) and "transform" it into what you see in column B.
I am transferring large amounts of files from various servers to my ftp and back out again. My original data are url filenames which of course, are named differently and not how you see it in my example.
The filenames themselves are preceeded by website names and varoius folder/path names. I edit the links to include various Usernames and Passwords and at the same time, rename the original filenames. Then I transfer the files to my ftp.
Most of the files have a ".part*.rar" extension at the end, so my formula has only included this scenario. Rather than manually editing my formula everytime a different extension is present (about 20-30% of the time), I would like to find a way to automatically look at a table/list of possible extensions (D2:D7) which are to be recognized for the sake of finding the end of the filename itself, so that I can rename (SUBSTITUTE) the original filename to that of my choice (cell D13) and of course, also include the original extension(s) of the source data (keeping this is important, especially in the cases where ".part*.rar's" are present). The list of extensions in cells E2:E7 are to be excluded from the new filename.
My present formula works fine for the editing of the username and passwords for various servers and for finding the beginning of the filename in the original url. It also works fine for finding the end of the filename (for the sake of renaming it), but only in cases where a .part*.rar" is present.
Parsing values in a column. COLUMN A contains comma separated numbers, varying from possibly an empty cell, to a list of values between 1 and 12 separated by commas. I need to examine the column and place the number 1 in the column corresponding to the number. There will be no duplicates in COLUMN A. Is there an 'easy' way to do this. The table is part of a much larger spreadsheet.

I am currently using this Formula to Search a table on sheet 2 (Tabelle2) and copy the date in the relevent cell (Cells) into the correct cell on Sheet 1 (Master Sheet).
[Code] ..........
Used in cells E10:AZ30 and E33:AZ46
This works perfectly and is the formula behind all relevent cells in Sheet 1.
I would like to keep this but to add that it also copies the background color of the cell in Sheet 2 to the cell in sheet 1.
If i can Bring this Formula into VBA and add the color changing part, It must only work on the cells listed above..
I have 5 opened files. I have copied into those files a set of formulas from my master sheet (with the macro). In A3 of ALL the open files, there is a date (ex. Date: 1/4/2014) Based on that date I want to copy the result of what I copied into the files (below is the code that I used to copy into the open files, maybe I could add something to create a named range of the resulting paste) back into the master sheet into a tab called 2014 and into a cell two cells below the cell in row 12 with the MATCHING date.
Question 1) Is there a way that whenever I select Cell B39 that it will copy cells B39:V39 ? From there I can manually paste that selection to where I need to.
If this is possible, it would save the effort of having to select B39:V39 manually and clicking CTRL-C. I am gathering data and the copying and pasting is killing me.
Question 2) Is it possible that when I click on Cell A9 that it can paste any data that I just copied from another worksheet to cells A9:D29? The size of the selection that I would copy is the same size as A9:D29 (4 columns & 29 rows).
I have searched for a solution, but I am not having much luck since I am anaware of the proper terminology for these types of actions.
I have a table that lists names, eligibility and # of people. That is just one worksheet. I have a total of 30 worksheets in that workbook. The column with the names is completely filled out. I entered a number in the eligibility and # of people columns and Excel copied all three cells (name, eligibility and # of people) to the same cells on all of the worksheets. I have no formula in any of the cells, nor do I have anything linked.
I have created a macro that copies information from various cell on one sheet to another. When I run the macro the screen flickers about 5 times. Is there a way to stop.
What I need is a macro that can be assigned to a button. This macro would search Column B for any entry (these names are selected from a drop-down list). Any time it finds an entry, it would copy that entire row of data and paste it into the Shared worksheet in the same workbook. This macro would be run on four other sheets in the workbook and would be run at least weekly. The Shared worksheet will only be blank the first time. After that, the macro would need to paste the information in the first blank row...
I can assign a number of copies to print by adjusting ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut Copies:= , but what I want it to have the number of copies auto adjust to the value of a cell that contains a formula. I was hoping it would something as simple as Copies:=cell but no luck...
The problem: I am getting values when doing a pastespecial for formulas and formats.
Manually copying and doing a pastespecial with the mouse gives me the correct results. Below is code I got from the forum, "here", and am running in a test workbook.
Option Explicit Sub Test2()
' Dim rSource As Excel. Range Dim rDestination As Excel.Range Set rSource = ActiveSheet.Range("A1:C1") Set rDestination = ActiveSheet.Range("A1").End(xlDown).Offset(1, 0)
I have an Excel spreadsheet with a query to an Access table. The query pulls data from 2 columns in a table and pastes it to the spreadsheet. I am trying to update the VBA a little on one sheet and now I get the attached error whenever the code tries to run in Excel. Here is the code with the offending portion separated at the top.
When I drag my VLOOKUP formula down a column in Excel 2010, the return value copies the formula result from the original VLOOKUP formula result. For example, if the first VLOOKUP returns a value of 0.5, I expect to see 0.5 or 1 in the cell below that one. However, I get 0.5 which is not the expected result for the cell below.
When, I click the fx on the cells below, the expected return values appear in the formula result. After I click OK, the expected formula results updates and now appears in the cell.
I'm not sure what is causing this issue. My computer was updated recently from an old machine to a new one. I have never experienced this issue before.
I have a parts list which came from one source in the format below. First column is the name of a product, the following columns show what components and what quantity go into the product:
Small Fruit Basket Apples 2 Oranges 3 Bananas 4 Large Fruit Basket Pears 5 Peaches 6 Mangos 2
The format I need it to be in is below, but I don't know how to go about it or if it's even possible:
Small Fruit Basket Apples 2 Small Fruit Basket Oranges 3 Small Fruit Basket Bananas 4 Large Fruit Basket Pears 5 Large Fruit Basket Peaches 6 Large Fruit Basket Mangos 2
I am trying to parse employee names into seperate string variables in order to display surname, first name and middle name in seperate fields on a form.
The format of the full name is "Surname, First Name, Middle Name (If any)
I have managed to deal with surname and firstname but I am stumped on middle name. Not all employees will have a middle name but for those who do, I need to parse it.
