I want to replace all defined range names in the sheet that start with "Street" to "Road"
For example I have 50 defined names in the sheet as such "Street-01", "Street-02"... all through "Street-50"
I want to change them all in vba to Road-01", "Road-02" etc.
When entering addresses in column G, need VBA Sheet Code to extract:
1 numbers of P. O. Box & Street & put in column K of the same row
2 words P. O. Box & Street Names & put in column L of the same row.
The pound sign is always used for the apartment number, etc, after the street name. For Example:

I import some text from a web page. The data is separated in rows and columns so it easily slip into cells in a nice row and column manner.
Now, I want to parse some names in one column (column A:A). The names do not reside in any other column. I want to change the content for those cells that is "Alpha Beta" into just "Beta", and I only want the replacing to be carried out on a specific sheet (named "Import").
I've recorded a VBA script and it look like this:
Cells.Replace What:="Alpha Beta", Replacement:="Beta", LookAt:=xlPart,
SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False, ReplaceFormat:=False
But, when I try different setting for the range I get the same script, I mean, for when I try the search & replace with settings for both the whole workbook and for the current sheet.
How can I control the search & replace with VBA to only be valid for a defined sheet?
Why can't I alphabetize all of my defined name ranges in the Name box?

and for defined names:

I have created 500+ defined names that refer to worksheets that do not exist (yet). When I add the previously nonexistent worksheets, the defined names that refer to them are not "live" and do not work in functions where that name is used. If you go into the defined names and click on the ones that refer to the now existent worksheet, they start to work, but I was hoping there was a way around this step (e.g. a simple macro that says "update all defined names").
I created all the names so that the person who will eventually be using this will only have to add an appropriately named worksheet and put the data in...then everything will automatically work. I do not think adding names is difficult, but the person who will be using this does, so I want to avoid that person mucking around in my names.
I have inherited an Excel workbook in which the formlas all contain cell names (and there are thousands of names in this book). I need to find a way to change from using cell names in a formula back to a standard absolute cell reference but have no idea how to do this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need a macro that will look for a specific text string in the tab names of the workbook and replace it with a new specified text string (leaving the rest of the existing tab names). In other words, a simple find/replace but applied to all tab names in the workbook rather than cells. Ideally, I'd like it to pop up something and ask for the text to find and the text to replace it with, so I don't have to edit the macro itself each time I want to use it, but editing the macro each time is fine. Either way will be wonderful.

2-10 (evens), test road, ID123.
I need to identify if the address is on the street, is in that block of flats (i.e between 2-10, and even number), and then return the ID.
I've already split the number between two cells, but then its all gone a bit wrong.
in my workbook i have 3 sheets named "time" "final" "push". in the sheet thats named "final" ihave in cells B2 and C2 2 values that correspond to a type interval (lets say 75-378) in the sheet "time" each row represents 1 sec, starting at one.
what i would like to do is locate the interval defined by the 2 values on "final" sheet
and find the min max and value in column S of the "time" sheet.
i.e if B2 and c2 said 78 and 378 it would go on "time" sheet select the range of S78-S378 and find the mean, the max and the average and report them in sheet "final" in cells E2 F2 G2 respectively What would be optimal is that there was a way to perhaps loop so that it can do the same thing with the range defined by the values in B3 and C3.

The problem is that different users are entering data on sheet1 col A in different ways example someone may enter Johnc or John C Or John What I want is for something to run down col A on sheet1 and look for the like name on the master sheet if the name matches then do nothing but if the name is like another name on the master sheet then replace the name if they are almost alike.
i am trying to project future date by adding certain number of days, the problem is that i m trying to catch starting date(C2) based on user defined(B2) date criteria is
a. if B2 is normal working day then C2 is the next day i.e. B2 + 1 for example if user enters 1 jan 14(B2) then C2 should be 2 Jan 14.
b. if B2 is saturday then C2 should be monday i.e. C2 + 2 eg B2 = 4 jan 14 then C2 = 6 jan 14.
now the main problem part
c. if B2 is saturday and monday is holiday then C2 should be date corresponding to Tuesday or if tuesday is also a holiday then C2 should be Wednesday and like wise..
d. same for last day of leave is to be calculated similarly to starting date..

I need a macro to do something like f9 on just "Test" everywhere "Test" exists or convert "Test" to something like "test".value with out affecting the rest of the Vlookup formula. In some areas I am also using index match combos.
Trying to use a Defined Name as the cell reference in VBA. The idea is to change the value of a couple of other cells base on the value of the cell "FreightRow". I am starting with a Message box just to make sure the code was reading the cell reference.

I have a namd sheet for everyday of the year in a workbook, so jan1 jan2 jan3 etc. I have a stats page which brings together certain pertinent data from those pages, so a formula on the stats page might look like this =sum('jan1'!$m$25:$m$900). What I would like to do is to name each day - jan1 jan2 etc as a named range perhaps date1 date2 etc so that the above formula would then look like =sum(date1!$m$25:$m$900).

I have a column J that is named Premium. If I use the function =INT(Premium) in K4 then it returns the integer for the value in J4. If I do the same thing with a UDF then the function argument receives all the values in column J. The author of the function says this is how UDFs work by design. Is there a way to use defined names with UDFs and have it work the way it does with built in functions?

I can create a macro to do this but some days i use different range names that other days so the below will not work exactly.
Ive created the following code which I want to use to create a name in excel but it doesnt work.
when i put =INDIRECT i get an error and with out the = it places a text string in with speech marks on it e.g. defined name reference in excel reads ="INDIRECT('Health and Safety'!$AP$3)"
How do I get rid of those speech marks? the cell reference will change each time the macro runs and so will the sheet reference.

I am currently overhauling a massive workbook, that previously relied on an absurd amount of named ranges in order to run vlookups. I no longer need these named ranges and would like to delete them to unclog the workbook. Currently I only see a way to delete them one by one. Is there a way to mass delete all of them?
I am looking for a way to delete all the range names in a worksheet, not the whole workbook. I have found several procedures that will delete all the names in an activeworkbook. For some reason it takes too long to run. Does anyone know how to handle a single sheet in VBA?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have several SumIf formulas that references a Cell in a Main Reference Tab. This is useful to me as I have over 100 tabs of data points and having a reference cell with that text is easier to change one time vs 100 times.
My question is this: Will Defined Names be "faster" than using a reference cell? With over 100 tabs, there's a lot of formulas and I'm looking for a faster way to get the same output without Excel Memory overload.

If one wants to copy a formula from the "Refers to" box and the formula extends past the right side of the box, how does one use "select all" or mark the whole formula from beginning to end so it can be copied without messing up the formula. At the moment, when I try this, it changes the formula to include the active cell of the worksheet that's open when I use the Ctrl + c etc. I have tried Ctrl + Ins and Ctrl + a and Ctrl + c. None of these are working for me.
I have a situation where I copy a worksheet to further on in the same workbook (essentially, using it as a template to create new sheets). I have certain cells that contain references to named ranges, e.g. on NewSheet1, cell $A$1 contains =StudyNo. Unfortunately, it shows as #NAME?. But, if I go to the formula bar and press enter, it resolves the name properly. I thougt maybe that automatic calculation was on manual but it is not. Why is this happening and what can I do to resolve it.
