Import Few Txt Files From One Directory To One Sheet

Jul 26, 2006

My text files look like this(each has different number of rows):
2006-08-25 13:33:20 82,8 g
2006-08-25 13:34:10 58,5 g

between each column there is Tab

To import them from one directory (directories are named as month e.g. 8) I used:

Sub Consolidate()
Dim mnthNum As Integer
Dim myBook As Workbook
Dim myRows As Long

With Application
.DisplayAlerts = False
.EnableEvents = False
. ScreenUpdating = False
End With

and it works almost perfectly.. the problem is that each time it loads next file it overwrites the previous..

e.g. if i have in my directory 4 files and sum of the rows is 20 it will show only 17. The import is good because I checked it with debugger but each time a new file is copied it starts from last row of previous file.. that's the problem I can't solve...

I have a music folder on my computer with a TON of music in it. Some folders have sub-folders as well.

I need an easy way to point to a specific folder and pull ALL the names of the files within that folder and all of the sub-folders and put them on an Excel worksheet.

So a brief example...

Main Folder: Now That's What I Call Music
Sub-Folders: Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, etc
And within each sub-folder is at least 2 more folders named CD1 and CD2.

I want to pull the name of every song in ALL of these folders into one collective list in Excel.

Excel 2010 :: Import Text Files To Include File Name As Data?

Jul 12, 2012

I need to import thousand of txt files into 1 worksheet keeping the file names as data. Each txt file has 2 columns :

1 0.65914
2 0.65945
3 0.86062
... ...
and each txt file represents recordings made at specific time and date (e.g 0158.DSG_RAWD_HMS_21_ 0_ 0__DMY_29_ 2_12_pulses). I would like to have 2 columns: 1) with the time taken from the name of the txt file (e.g. 21:00:00) and 2) the associated recording. Something like this:

21:00:00 0.65914
21:00:00 0.65945
21:00:00 0.86062

and so on for each txt file and all the recordings piling up in 1 spreadsheet. I have tried to run few codes in VBA, but I have no knowledge of it and none of the code worked. I am using Excel 2010.

Import Multiple Text Files & List Names

Sep 19, 2007

I am a complete novice with VBA and would like to write a macro that will allow me to import multiple text files stored in a folder on my directory into a single excel worksheet. I would also like the name of each text file to be output in a separate column for each row of data in the worksheet i.e. each row is 'named' with the title of the file it comes from.

The text files are comma delimited and have 5 fields e.g.

.000071 ,93018.3,53.3583924, -6.3578328,Differential

List All Files In Directory In An Excel File

Apr 2, 2009

In my search I found several example similar to what I need, but nothing I could adapt to filt my needs, (at least not wim my limited skills).

Here what I need to do:

I have multilple Excel files in a directory. (M:/Archived PO Responses/Domestic). On a daily basis, these files are processed via VBA, and deleted after processing. What I need to do is, prior to processing and deleting these files, create an ongoing log of the filenames in that directory.

Example:

The macro would open an Excel file named "Processed Orders.xls", which is stored on the network drive "M:". It would then append all of the filenames in the directory mentioned above to a sheet named "Processed Orders" in that workbook, below any filenames that already exist.

Change Name Of Files To Import During Multiple Importations

Jul 16, 2014

I have something like 10 folders. In each folder, I have 300 .xls files and 300 .txt files which have the same name : REF01, REF02, REF03...

Each time, I have to import the .txt file in the .xls file which has the same name in the same folder. I have some other operations to do : filter, etc...

I registered a macro to automatically import the .txt file and do the operation. But, the "register macro tool" has a problem : I asked him to import REF01 during the register, and now he is stuck to this file and import it every time I execute the macro. So, he imports REF01.txt in REF02.xls, in REF03.xls, when it should import REF01.txt in REF01.xls, REF02.txt in REF02.xls...

I don't know a thing in VBA. i tried to study the code but didn't manage to improve it. Here it is :

Sub BESTBESTMACROEVER()
'
' BESTBESTMACROEVER Macro
'
' Touche de raccourci du clavier: Ctrl+u
'
Sheets("Feuil2").Select
Sheets("Feuil2").Name = "Anerorpoin"

Import File Contents (XML) From Multiple Zip Files

Mar 17, 2014

My associates have saved about 2,000 .zip files in a single repository. Each zip file contains a .pdf, and a file called "metadata.xml" - the metadata files are small, only 1-2Kb.

What I'd like to do is import the contents of each metadata.xml file into a single workbook so I can build an inventory of the pdf files.

The full path looks like this:
Z:PrincetonGlobal DataFinancial DataFinancial DataWCFNDL_PRODUCTION128650_TH1X0_ProTechLLC_A_Eng_BBOT__20140317132245.195_bbot.zip

Everything up to and including FNDL_PRODUCTION is exactly the same for each file. Everything after, varies, and is not predictable.

I'm thinking there is some way to say "for each file in repository, import metadata.xml content..."

Import Text Files To A Sheet In Existing Excel File

Jul 25, 2014

I have a folder with multiple text files. I want to import one of these files to a sheet called data in an existing Excel file. The excel file has references to this data sheet on other sheets which I want to keep. I want to save this excel file with the name the text file has and repeat this for all the text files in the folder.

I found a macro a while back which does the job nicely of importing and saving the Excel file, however all the data in the other sheets gets lost once it is saved. How to keep the data?

Code:

Sub tgr()
Const txtFldrPath As String = "FOLDER WITH TEXT FILES" 'Change to folder path containing text files
Const xlsFldrPath As String = "FOLDER FOR EXCEL FILES" 'Change to folder path excel files will be saved to
Dim CurrentFile As String: CurrentFile = Dir(txtFldrPath & "" & "*.txt")
Dim strLine() As String
Dim LineIndex As Long

Extract Data From Files Within The Same Directory Or Below And Place In New Workbook

May 3, 2006

Firstly, I have attached a file called test2 which has two sheets within it, one called list and one called 12345. This is for demonstration purposes only as in real life these are both separate files.

What I am trying to do is create a history in the file called list that extracts certain data from the file called 12345 and places it in a more user friendly format. No problems with the formulas etc, just a case of a few ifs and buts.

My real problem lies in the fact that file 12345 is only one of hundreds of files and in order to create the history, I have to repeat the process on all the other files, so that the list grows as I copy the data.
Again for demo purposes, the file "list" sits in the C root ie C:list and the job files sit in C:files*.*.

Is there a way to automate the process so that formulas or VBA residing in the file "list" searches through the C:files*.* and populates the list as it runs through them.

VBA To Open Multiple Files With Different Unknown File Names?

The problem is that sometimes there will only be one file for a month (ie only at month-end) and other times, there may also be additional files for different dates throughout the month. I wont know ahead of time how many files there will be, but they will always be saved in the same file name type that is "FILE DESCRIPTION MM-DD-YYYY". Mass Data Import From 200 Files. Automatically

Apr 24, 2009

I have around 200 files, all named from 001.xls to 200.xls, all containing the same format, the same number of colums, but a different number of lines.

Now I have the great task to actually open all these files and copy each files data into one file and start analyzing it. Well, since I personally have no interest to open, copy and paste 200 hundred times, I am wondering if there is any faster way to let excel automatically copy the data into this master file?
I am thinking about somehing like *='001.xls'Sheet2!B2:E20*

One thing is that each file never has more than 20 entries, thus i would only need excel to import the from line 2 to 20 from a certain file and then do same thing all over again with the next file.
