Is it possible to write vba code that will generate a text file with ALL changes that were made to an excel file. Ex. If Cell A17 = "Monday, June 4, 2012" and a user updates Cell A17 to "N/A", I would like to know what the value was before and after the udpate was made.

I need help for reading data from text files and saving it under different columns in the excel file using vba macro.
For example: I have many text files in the following format ....
I work for an environmental company and we do emission testing. We specifically use the analysis software CEMsoft and ProRATA. After each test/run we get a text file (.txt) that we print out which then has to put into a specific pre-made excel data file.
I am wondering if there is a way to export the data from the .txt file and into the specific fields within the excel sheet. Can I encode the .txt or excel file to do it for me? Trying to eliminate the need to manually put in the data from the printed out sheet.
I have verified that there is data in the worksheet...but while the text file is created and properly closed, nothing is written to it.

I have a file that I want to name based on content in certain cells. I.e. "Q-(text from cell G1)-(text from cell B7)-Date(mm_dd_yy)". I want to be able to specify the location where I save this file each time I try to save it, but I want it to update the file's name if any of the parameters have changed.
I have some code generated that does just about everything right except that it automatically saves a version of the file in the folder where the original is located even though it also brings up the dialog box and allows me to save it in another location.
Basically, I want to fix the code below so that it doesn't save what appears to be a backup file each time. Should I be using some sort of savecopyas?

I have a workbook with many spreadsheet named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. Each sheet is filled completely upto 65536 rows. This data is being picked up from a CSV file. In this file there are sites with each site there is a assciated set of data. What happens is the data that extracts data does not differntiate between sites and when it reaches to the end of worksheet it splits the data into next sheet. So I am trying to create a macro to check each spreadsheet starting with the last sheet in the work book for example last sheet in the workbook is seven it should go to sheet6 and if there is a blank row after row 64000 it should cut all the rows and move them to sheet7. Then it should goto sheet5 and do the same and keep on doing it until it reaches sheet1.

I have a supplier list which i access all the time. To view individual supplier details i use find function using supplier code and then scroll through the sheet to view all the details and it is quite hectic. Is there any way i can modify the sheet so that every time i search for a supplier , only that supplier details can be shown in a different sheet or notification which i can also print if i want.

As I am looping through files in a folder, I would like to determine if the file is a text file.
The problem is that all extensions are variable in a pattern such as .078, .051, etc.
In this instance, the extensions are numeric, but I'm trying to figure out a way to handle that is all encompassing to include *.txt, *.tsv, *.csv, *.prn, etc......

I have a master file which users are able to open via read only or go in via password to edit.
I'm not too bothered on the read only users more on person's entering the file via password, making any changes and then saving those changes.
Is there a way to trace what changes they made and would their name be saved as the new "author" of the file?
Is there a way to log the userid of the person who last made an update in the external file links?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an existing spreadsheet with a column of strings (actually VIN numbers). These numbers correllate to a bunch of text files, that can exist in one of three folders (UsernameDesktop1, 2, or 3) on my desktop. What I need the macro to do is:
1) get the filename from A2 (A1 is a heading row)
2) Find the appropriate text file in one of the three folders
3) Put the folder name into I2
4) Scan the text file for some strings, and copy some data that follows those strings into J2:O2 (I can handle programming this)
5) Close the text file
6) repeat above for the remainder of filenames (about 1800 files)
I have an Excel workbook that will be used by multiple users who share a network drive.
I would like to set it up so that the VBA code is ran from a text file stored on the network drive containing the VBA code. Basically a macro would run from the Excel workbook and get the VBA code from the text file and then run that code. Has anyone done this before or can anyone provide the syntax for this process?
I have a spreadsheet where I want to require certain fields to be completed then I want to have that file auto emailed. I have learned that I do need to have the file saved before sending otherwise the data will not appear in the email, so with this I want to have the file temporarily saved emailed then the temp file deleted.
