2007 Macro Recorder Not Recording Chart Property Changes
Sep 4, 2007
I've created VBA code in Access 2007 to create a column chart in Excel, and it is working. I need to change the rotation on my category labels to 270 degrees vertical. When I record a macro on the chart in Excel 2007. I only receive the following
Sub chartingRotation()
'
' chartingRotation Macro
'
'
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate
ActiveChart.Axes(xlCategory).Select
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate
End Sub
How can I get the macro recorder to record changes to chart properties?

I recently installed Excel 2007, and have shared others' joy in searching for things on the ribbon. I tried to record a macro to insert an autoshape. Excel creates the macro, but drawing the autoshape is not recorded. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious ...

I hide all Excel standard tabs and thus need a button on custom tab to record a macro. (I did this successfully with custom menu in Excel 2003.) In 2007 ribbon, I've reused the code for a button's OnAction, now going to callback that runs:
Application.CommandBars.ExecuteMso ("MacroRecord")
In Excel 2003, the stop button appeared automatically for me. But in Excel 2007, with hiding standard tabs, etc., I see no way to stop recording, other than running my button to return the Developer's tab, where the Record Macro button has changed to Stop Macro.
I'd like to either add a second button to my ribbon to stop recording the macro (but I can't find an idMso to use in a callback) or have my Record button change to Stop button, like Excel does. But I can't come up with correct code.

I used macro recorder, and this code was the result. Is there a way to shorten this code up? The more I use macro recorder, the more I'm beginning to realize that the code generated from macro recorder can be very sloppy.

Is it possible to use the Macro recorder in Excel to store user variables that they put in through a UserForm? So say when a textbox on a userform is changed, it records a macro of what is put into the textbox, which it can then call to retrieve the value.

I have recorded a simple macro ( copying a cell, and then pasting the formula into various others), and I get the following error
Compile Error: Argument Not Optional
I have highlighted where the error first happens
Sub Macro3()
'
' Macro3 Macro
' Macro recorded 24/08/2007 by Michael Traynor
'
'
Range("K7:K8").Select
Selection.Copy
Range("K167:AJ168").Select
Range("AJ167").Activate
Range("K167:AJ168,K175:AJ176").Select
Range("AJ175").Activate
Range("K167:AJ168,K175:AJ176,K183:AJ184").Select
Range("AJ183").Activate
Range("K167:AJ168,K175:AJ176,K183:AJ184,K191:AJ192").Select
As I've said I didn't write this, it was recorded from Excel.

I am using office 2011 for MAC, and am trying to create a macro that changes the color of the selected cell(s).
if I start recording the macro
click the fill color button pull down and change the color on the edit section of the ribbon
Stop the macro
No code is recorded as below but the cell did change color to whatever I selected.
Sub Macro13()
'
' Macro13 Macro
'
'
End Sub
[code].....
The colorIndex is automatic no matter what color I choose.
When I run the macro there is no change to the selected cell, but the border is destroyed.

Trying to create a macro to run through the following steps when I select a chart and run the macro:
Paste>As Picture>Copy As Picture>As Shown When Printed>OK
I used the macro record feature and when I enter the shortcut it always returns the same chart. How do I get it to run on whatever chart I have selected instead?
I am constantly using this function to copy charts from Excel into PowerPoint presentations and am frustrated with all the extra steps it takes (versus just Ctrl-C).

I have a 2003 vs. 2007 problem that I've spent a week or so trying to resolve, to no avail. I have created a fairly complex "dictator application" in Excel 2003. The application performs a bunch of calculations, and stores this inforamtion in a template workbook. The template itself contains one worksheet (to hold the data), and twelve empty "chart-sheets" which I later use to create plots. Of course, everything works fine and life is good in Excel 2003.
Flash forward two years, and half of my company is running 2007. When a 2007 user fires the plot creation routine, he is greated with a lovely error message (# 2147467259): "Method 'Position' of object 'Legend' failed".
Here's the full procedure I'm running to create the plots and position the legends:
Function bChartSumFileData(ByVal lTotalPlots As Long)
Const sSOURCE As String = "bChartSumFileData" 'Procedure Name (error-handling)
Dim bReturn As Boolean
Dim i As Long, j As Long, lNumSeries As Long
Dim sTemp As String, sPlotSetting As String
Dim chtTemp As Chart
Dim wksData As Worksheet, wksInfo As Worksheet
Dim serTemp As Series
Dim uSettings As CHART_SETTINGS
Dim vaPlotInfo As Variant
Obviously, lots of custom functions here; I'm also using a custom "type" to store chart settings (which I read from a *.txt file in a separate function). However, as far as the Legend goes, it shouldn't make a difference with the above code. When I stop execution after the error and look at the template workbook, the chart is created just fine, and the legend is visible, so I'm not sure why the error is occuring. Even better, the number of charts created prior to erroring-out is not fixed: sometimes the error occurs on the first plot, sometimes on the third, etc.

I just tried installing a basic macro which reads from a shared file on the office server onto my colleagues computers. Works find on mine but doesn't work on theirs "Could not set the list property index". When I comment out the offending line, the form loads just fine but obviously without the listbox populated. The line is:
Code:
.popsLB.List = Application.WorksheetFunction.Transpose(camp_array)
All machines are running Office 2007.

However, when I run the code, I got "Object doesn't support this property or method". I did select the chart. I have excel 2003 with vba 6.5.

This problem occurs in EXCEL 2000/2002/2003. I open a CSV file generated by perform.exe and convert the information using Data/TextToCollumns - Delimited/Colon and Finish. When i execute these steps in Excel i don´t have problem, but when repeat these steps after recording a macro (Tools/Macro/Recording Macro) occurs this problem.
After a click finish option, i receveid this message
"Numero excessivo de continuações de linhas" (Portuguese message)
"Excessive Continuation lines" ( translate to English )
and recording macro stop. I don´t know what happen. I attach a ZIP file with a CSV file to test and analysis.

I frequently use the record option to start off my macros. I realize this usually results in recorded events which are not absolutely necessary (recording a print macro is one that is full of excess line items). I then try and combine what I have recorded with what I have garnered from this wonderful website. If my spreadsheets are small - and I am not writing code to pass any inspections - is there a need to go back and clean up?

I am having trouble with a project for school. The instructions are: (In Worksheet 1) Type Your Name. Now, begin recording a Macro. Copy and Paste your name from Worksheet 1 to Worksheet 2. Fill in the background and edit the font. End.
Here is an example of the coding.
ActiveCell.Range("A1:E1").Select
Selection.Copy
ActiveSheet.Paste
Application.CutCopyMode = False
With Selection.Interior
.Pattern = xlSolid
.PatternColorIndex = xlAutomatic
[Code] .....
Now, according to the instructions I should be able to run the Macro in any worksheet....but anytime I run the Macro in any other worksheet I just get a yellow block without my name there.

Fixing a macro that i recorded in order to generate a pivot table on the same sheet and the same exact location every time. it seems that the macro fails every time i try to run and i'm thinking it has to do with the table reference. Again i want the table in the same sheet and the same location every time i run the macro. this is the recorded code so far.

I am working on this project that involves opening several Excel spreadsheets and copying the data into a new workbook. The problem is that the names of the various worksheets I want to copy change every day - it always reflects the date. I open 7 workbooks, go to the sheet named (for example)01.17.07, copy a static range and then paste it to a new workbook.
Is it possible to record a macro and use a cell reference in the destination workbook (the one I want to copy to) to tell it which worksheet to copy? So, for example, I would type 01.17.07 in cell A1 of the new workbook and the macro would look for the sheet named 01.17.07 when running? Then tomorrow, I could type 01.18.07 and it would know to look for a different sheet?

How can I make XL (2000) display the macro start/stop recording and relative/absolute box that used to appear whenever I started recording a macro?
Such an apparently simple issue, but I can't resolve it!
Somehow I lost this small box, and I know how to force it to display via customize, but it doesn’t seem to work the same (relative does not work as such) and the buttons or box disappear.
