I want to insert the prefix "S" in front of the nummbers 3245. so i would hopefully end up with

I need to change a few hundred cells (one column) where the first letter may be a capital letter to a lowercase letter.
So:

What is the formula to achieve this?
For the below formula is it possible to replace the B's (column location) with a cell Say Z146 which contains the letter B (or a number if thats easier and someone can tell me the numbers for each column).
When the formula is dragged into the next cell (down) it takes its column reference from Z147 and then my life becomes so much easier.

I am working on a spreadsheet for work, and have managed to do everything I need to so far but I need to colour specific letter strings, certain colours within a range of cells (each letter string will only appear once on each sheet)
The strings I will be looking for vary depending on data entered so I will need to cell reference them
The strings that need colouring are in cells with other strings that must stay black (They cannot be separated from other strings due to the nature of the grid)
I need some strings red, some green, and some blue.
These changes should also apply to the whole workbook not just one sheet.
Is there a way to do this with the VBA code.
I am looking to be able to compare a number with a letter so for example 4c and compare it with another 5c and in that scenario see a difference of 1 but when the two to be compared are 4c and 4a it would see 0.6.
in this excersize
A=0.33333R
B=0.33333R
C=0.33333R
it is basically sub category of the initial number so an A is better than a B and in tern a B is better than a C

so on and such forth the number and letter can be entered into seperate fields the lettering are only A,B,C but numbers can range from 1-9 i am normally quite ept with excel but this is out of my depth
On column "F" I have all the names listed, they are all lowercase, and with different length. How do I write a formula to turn those names into numbers?
For an example. In column F1 I have "James". And using letters = numbers

I need to extract (and then use for SumIfs) only item numbers from the long description. Please see the attached list where item number column shows existing list & next column shows what i want to extract. For example, a student gets a D on one assignment and a B on another. I want a formula that will produce "C".
I'm going to be using a spreadsheet to keep track of where different people are at. So if Person 1 is in Room 3, I will stick a 3 in the box next to their name and then can look at the spreadsheet whenever I need and see what room they are in. When I'm deciding what room to put a person in, though, I need to be able to quickly glance at a list of Room #'s and see what one's are still available. So I have a bank of Room #'s in the spreadsheet....1,2,3, etc.
What I'd like, is some way to set this up so that when I put, for example, "3" in the cell next to "Person 1" the spreadsheet automatically removes "3" from the bank of available Room #'s and when I delete the "3" because the person has left, it adds "3" back to the bank of available Rooms.
I have a mass of data which look something like this:

and I require the ranges of reference numbers to be listed in a column one above the other, which requires inserting new rows. I also need the date & description columns copied down into the newly inserted rows.
So basically for example I would want the top row to now read:

and then apply the same procedure to the other ranges below this.

I use currency data pasted from legacy program that pastes dollar values followed by a C or D to represent debit and credits, ie -- 1,000,000.00C or 1,000,000.00D.
Is there some way to remove the letter and correctly format the value to a negative or positive number on a whole worksheet or column?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi need a formula for a sign in sheet for the academy i work at. we have night and day classes of the same sessions, in the planner they are listed as d1, d2 d3 and n1 n2 n3 and so on for each.
so basically im trying to create a formula to quickly ender the d1, d2, d3 ect into the cells on eachpage for the students to sign in for each day it works out to be about 190 calls and 9 diferent classes to you can see why id like to speed this up. problem is i need the number to change not the D and excel want to use the cell allocation.
as you can see from the document i have not attatched, i have created a formula to add in the dates automatically, i would like to do the same with the session numbers or the D numbers, this is one of the shorter courses and has about 190 days

I have 1200 doctor/patient records to input into an excel spreadsheet for import to an online EHR database. I can set up all the normal formulas and formatting but for the life of me not figure out how to create a custom formula to take the first letter of the patient first name and last name and add 6 figures to create a unique patient identifier.
ie. James + Smith+ random 6 figures = JS245318.
In my spreadsheet the first name is under Column 1, Last name Column 3 and the unique number generated in column 4.
Looking for VBA that can change the font size of "" char(0149) within any string in selected cells.
Also looking to delete the last "" char(0149) within any string of selected cells.

However, this doesn't even work.
When somebody enters an X in a specific cell on one worksheet, it's supposed to change the value to A of a specific cell in a different worksheet. Sounds simple enough...but...
