Produce a chart (not a problem) that can be updated should the length of the X and Y data change?
This may not even need to be a macro, if it is possible to have a chart whose X and Y axis updates depending on the contents of a column?
If you search through the history of even this forum you will see quite a lot of people are looking for this solution.
The first data point of my chart appears cutoff along the y axis
I formatted the x-axis by clearing the check box "Value (Y) axis crosses at maximum category"
If I add the tick mark back in then my first data point does not begin at the origin.

I have a dynamic column chart that may contain positive or negative (or both) values. The columns contain Data Labels positioned 'Outside End'.
I want to avoid the Data Labels (for the negative values) overlapping the x axis. Is there a way to do this via VBA?
I know how to update the chart axis via vba linked to cell values, but I can't figure out a formula I can use to calculate the minimum which takes into account the distance needed to avoid the overlapping problem.
I have a quite big database as a result of a study in Excel 2010. There is a special block of data for every participant in the study, including 16 data series in 16 lines. I have to make a unique chart for every line.
One block is bulid up in a way, that every row is the input for a chart, with the exception of one "spacer" row, which is empty.

For example in the sample above, there should be 6 line-charts (A, B, C, D, E, F) next to the block.
Can a macro be written, so I can automatically create the chart-set by selecting the block's upper left cell and running the macro? Or is there any easier method?
I recently started keeping a new chart to track several different stocking measures. After running the data this morning, I noticed my horizontal axis had blank position holders for data over the weekend. How would I set the chart so that if there is no data in my data range, it doesn't put a place holder in the axis? Sample attached.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a spreadsheet with a chart to show gas consumption in our house.
I have sufficient data to produce the standard "S" curve for a 12 month period and would like to be able to have one chart with the standard "S" curve on it plus a curve of progress in the year to date of gas used so that an instant comparison between planned and actual usage can be made.
The problem is that the 2 curves require a different X axis. The standard "S" curve has an X axis that is 12 months long whereas the current one is as long as it is from the start of the year being measured. Both curves will have data inputs on different dates in the year.
Is there a way to limit the range of values on the Y-Axis on the lower end? Like I don't wish the Y-axis to begin from 0 but say 500. Is that possible?
I have a set of data values ranging from 650 - 850, but the Excel graph however looks too fine because the Y-axis begins from 0.
I would like to know how can I plot my x axis of a chart with the maximum and minimum value that I have in this variable. Note that my variable is no going from the lower value to the highes one, it is random. So what I did is to use the autoscale of the chart, but it is not working as I would like. Any solution?

I have a combination column and line chart with the line series on the secondary axis. Is there a way that I can tell excel to scale the secondary axis so as the line always appears above the columns? As it is it appears above in most instances but sometimes appears below the columns.

For example, at 4.4 GHz and 1.8m antenna, two values (downtime/year) are possible 15 min or 557min. This is represented in the third figure Since the first chart contains small values and the second chart contains large values for the x-axis, will I able to change this to log scale for ease of analysis?

There is POLICY statement that determine an what ACTION should be applied to a paticular building given a score for "LIFE" & "RISK" which results in varing policies A-D. (The Policy intervention points differs slightly for varing types of building. This excel sheet works just fine, and provides the correct guidance for our engineers by suggesting Policy A-D on input of tbuilding type and LIfe/Risk score. However the Policy is a guide, and they do need to apply a level of judgement with the data close to intervention points.
My Question,
I would like to provide further graphical representation to aid decision making. I have a graph plots the X Axis ( LIFE) 0-100, and y Axis (risk) 0-5 and show the , but what i need to be able to do is dynamically adjust the position where the x&y axis cross, so showing visually the intervention point when different building types are selected.
I already have various dependent validation lists established using the INDIRECT function.
Now I want to figure out how I can automatically change the selected values given the selected list. For example:
Cell D11 is a validation list with options: Boat/Car
Cell D15 is a validation list where if D11 = Boat the options are Catamaran/Sailboat/Tugboat. If D11=Car the options are Convertible/Sedan/Midsize.
The problem is that if D15 is preselected as Sailboat, for example, and you go back and change D11 to equal Car, cell D15 remains an option from the Boat validation list. I would like it to automatically update as the 1st item on the car validation list.
I have attached a copy of the chart and data. My chart starts on the bottom. I had to take out a lot of data but beneath the data shown is much more data..
I want my chart to automatically update when new data is added. Here are the issues. I have several lines of headers and below that my data. Then below my data I have other data that I don't want displayed in the chart (its not shown here because of size limitation of attachmnet).
The new row will be added each time right below the header, right above the
most recent data given. So a row will be added above row 8!

On Sheet2, data validation is applied to cells D21:D70 to limit data to values to a list, which is a named range on another worksheet. There are ranges on two other worksheets with the same data validation rule. The range for the list is ‘Sheet1’!D12:D26 (which is named “Processes”).
On Sheet1, the user enters a list of their processes. Then on Sheet2 (and the other sheets where the data validation is applied), they select one of the processes from the list. This all works fine until they go back to Sheet1 and modify one of the previously entered values.
For example, "Brush Teeth" is entered as one of the processes on Sheet1. It is then selected on Sheet2. Then, the user goes back to Sheet1 and changes the value to "Brush Hair." When you return to Sheet2, the value is still "Brush Teeth." It can be manually be changed by selecting “Brush Hair” from the drop-down list (“Brush Teeth” is no longer available), but it doesn’t automatically update.
Data validation was applied to a single cell (A3) and the list was on the same worksheet (B1:B3).

A colleague recorded this macro to insert a row into a column of data which a graph is plotted from to automatically update the graph each time more data is added. I can't figure out how to simplify the VBA and stop it adding a row on row 57 rather than the bottom of the graph.

How do I get my charts to update everytime, the data refreshens...I have my series linked to several worksheets within a workbook.

I want in column B to have only the numbers from column A, in the same order without any empty ranges, and everytime I add in column A a new number, column B to update automatically with that number. Let's have an example:

I am working on a chart which is updated every week. For clearness purposes, I would like to get the chart titles integrating the date of the last update. For instance, if the data are updated on the 13/06/07, I would like the chart title to be automatically: Last updated on 13/06/07 and so on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to update a number of charts using data that covers a rolling 12 months - this will be amended each month by addition of new data but I will be retaining the full history. I thought the easiest and quickest way would be to name the data range and just amend it each month as I added new data. However, when I use the named range in the chart wizard it is replaced by direct cell references. Can anyone suggest how I can retain the name in the chart or suggest an easy alternative method?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to create a page (call it a dashboard) in excel whereby drop down fields (doesn't have to be drop downs, just how I imagine it to work at the moment), are used to refer to information in another worksheet, which updates several charts on the dashboard.
So, for example, I have several additonal tabs in the spreadsheet called 'Company 1', 'Company 2' etc, which in each tab contains information (monthly results) in exactly the same layout and format. However, on the front page, I would like to be able to select 'Company 1' (or 'Company 4') and then sub-select 'March 2014' results within that, referring to the data in the 'Company 1' tab. If possible, it would be handy to have this information displaying in a grid on the dashboard, which updates when you change between months and/or company. This could be the source data for the chart.

I recently switched to Excel 2010 and have a rather peculiar problem.Every week I update a bunch of charts in different workbooks. By update, I pretty much mean just shifting the range over one column or down one row to incorporate newly added data.
So I right click the chart, select "Select Data", update all the Data series ranges and then I click on the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels button "Edit" to update the Axis label range.
I do all that then press OK. The data series have updated, but the axis labels haven't. So then I do the procedure again for the Axis Labels, hit OK again and voila: It worked.
But I ALWAYS have to do this procedure twice. It will NEVER update the axis labels the first time around. Even though the little preview window below the edit button show the labels correctly.
I have a basic formula =C17+'Asset Depreciation 2008 Onwards'!C24, and I want to copy it down just using the drag function. Problem is that the second reference range of cells are in rows and hence when I copy it down it doesn�t automatically update the cell references because it want to update them by column number instead of row number. IE I want it to display =C17+'Asset Depreciation 2008 Onwards'!
D24, instead of C25. Do you know if there is any way of telling Excel that I want it to increase the column number by 1 every time, instead of the row number for this part of the formula?
Two questions:
1) How do make values on x-axis as words? E.g. apples, oranges, etc.
2) Is it possible to have the numbers on x-axis in descending order? If I can figure out 1), I can do this as well, but it would be nice to know if it is possible to have the numbers on x-axis in descending order.
I have a worksheet containing 16 chart objects. The source data for each of these charts is located on various other worksheets (all within the one workbook however). Whenever I change data on my Data Input worksheet, the source data is correctly being recalculated, however, the associated charts aren't changing.
The only two ways I can get the charts to update are: (1) save and re-open the file (saving doesn't fix it but re-opeing the file appears to do a full recalculation which then correctly updates the charts); or (2) click on each of the charts individually, go to Source Data and re-accept the data range that is already in there.
I've used the following VBA on my Data Input worksheet to try to do a full spreadsheet recalculation every time I deactivate it but this doesn't solve the problem either.

My calculation is set to automatic.
I don't know if its relevant or not but this spreadsheet uses a custom worksheet function to derive some of the source data. I've never come across this problem before. Does anyone have any ideas on why its doing this and more importantly how to fix it?
I have a data set that is a spectrum of (y)intensity vs (x)energy I was wanting to add an additional X axis at the top of the graph showing the wavelength conversion for the energy value, is that possible in excel? and if so how?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a pseudo Gantt chart in Excel (a horizontal stacked bar chart). The chart is driven off data I have in a Power Pivot model (Auto Refreshed) and the Gantt chart displays data which spans a fixed 12 hour time frame.
The problem I am having is that in order for me to get the chart to display correctly I must manually (daily) get the excel decimal values for my Minimum DateTime and Maximum DateTime and then enter those numbers into the "AXIS Options" Bounds Minimum and Maximum value fields. I would like to automate that process so that the Axis Bounds are either driven from the data cells OR are always set to a specific 12 hour window 6pm->6am daily.
I have one source spreadsheet, where are columns NAME, DATE. I read these data by ADO to other spreadsheet, where I can change/delete data and then run macro for update data in source spreadsheet. The problem: In source spreadsheet is column "NAME" and column "DATE", with values e.g. "Joseph"; 1.1.1980. I read this data to other spreadsheet, then I delete in it value 1.1.1980. It seems that in source spreadsheet has data in column "Date" format Date and when I try to update data in format String ("") in source spreadsheet by Update macro, it messages error. When I used

I have just been asked to update a file on a quarterly basis which contains a large number of charts based on the performance of various funds against their respective benchmarks. In column A I have dates going back to 2008 and then the fund and benchmark figures in the next columns. Each quarter there will be a need to update the charts to the new rolling 3 year period, i.e. in October when I update the file, the charts will need to show the results from 30.09.09 to 31.09.12
As there are 20 charts this can be quite time consuming? The charts sit on the same tab as the data, under the columns at the bottom.
