Autofill; Copy Down It Doesnít Automatically Update The Cell References Because It Want To Update Them By Column Number Instead Of Row Number
Dec 11, 2008
I have a basic formula =C17+'Asset Depreciation 2008 Onwards'!C24, and I want to copy it down just using the drag function. Problem is that the second reference range of cells are in rows and hence when I copy it down it doesnít automatically update the cell references because it want to update them by column number instead of row number. IE I want it to display =C17+'Asset Depreciation 2008 Onwards'!
D24, instead of C25. Do you know if there is any way of telling Excel that I want it to increase the column number by 1 every time, instead of the row number for this part of the formula?
Lets say I have two sheets titled "dashboard" and "raw data" in a workbook. Cell A1 in "dashboard" should always show the most up to date data from Row 1 in "Raw Data".
I update "raw data" daily, adding a new column to Row 1. For example December 19 would be A1, December 20 would be B1, December 21 would be C1 etc...How can cell A1 in "Dashboard" always reference the newest cell in Row 1 of "raw data"?
I have a spreadsheet with 2000 rows, and I need to add one column with the IF function that looks at the cell in the column to the left for each row, all the way down. How do I do that without typing in the specific different cell references for each row in my IF column?
I'm working on a workbook where I'm linking data from a bunch of spreadsheets to a summary page. I have the first column (A) set up. I dragged the data across several more columns. Now I need to change reference to the tab in each column. Is there a quick way to do this without copying and pasting the tab name into each row (about 30 rows)?
(Each column represents a tab, the rows are the same type of data in every tab.)
Let's say that in column A I have numbers,"Yes" and "No". I want in column B to have only the numbers from column A, in the same order without any empty ranges, and everytime I add in column A a new number, column B to update automatically with that number. Let's have an example:
A B Yes 12 12 13 No 10 13 No 10 Yes
And if I want to add in column A: A B Yes 12 12 13 No 10 13 25 No 15 10 Yes 25 15
So the column be will update automatically. I already tried =IFERROR(INDEX($A$1:$A$10,SMALL(IF(ISNUMBER($A$1:$A$10),ROW($A$1:$A$10)),ROWS(B$1:B1))-ROW($A$1)+1),") but using this many times get's my file very heavy and the excel is working slow.
I have a workbook with a main worksheet where all the data entry and calculations are made and then I have "sub" worksheets which mirror subsets (specific columns) of the information from the main worksheet. When information in the main worksheet changes, or rows/columns are added, I want the sub worksheets to update automatically.
The only way I can figure out to do this is to use absolute references in the sub worksheets. Does anyone know how to change the references to be absolute (using the F4 function) without having to do them one by one? Or can anyone suggest how I can achieve this in another way.
I've got a big file with a large dataset. One of the sheets works as a screening for the data, so everytime I populate an ID number in say cell C3, the rest of the sheet updates as per the formulas I have in place. However, I need to write a code that takes ID numbers one by one from a sheet, populates them into my screening sheet, updates the sheet and saves it.
I have a macro that is set to clear a range of cells. If I make a change to the worksheet (such as adding a column) that moves those cells in the worksheet, the worksheet formulas update, but the macro cell references do not. How can I make my macro update in accordance with changes in the worksheet?
A colleague recorded this macro to insert a row into a column of data which a graph is plotted from to automatically update the graph each time more data is added. I can't figure out how to simplify the VBA and stop it adding a row on row 57 rather than the bottom of the graph.
I am trying to create a simple scoring system for sports that use a "legs" and "sets" format (e.g. tennis, darts etc.)
I would like the "sets" cell to automatically update as the "legs" cell reaches the required amount of legs to win a set. After that I would like the "sets" cell to continue to count upwards when/if another set is won. Is this possible?
Is it possible to update a cell with an additional number eg from 22 to 23 when a template is opened. In accounting packages for example, every time you open an invoice it automatically increases the invoice number to the next higher number. I was thinking I might be able use excel to create an inwards goods receipt for items received for repair.
I have a column C with different text in cells (item's title). Column D - relevant description for each of the items. 100+ rows.
Now, unfortunately, often a spreadsheet with items is updated with many new items. So I get a new spreadsheet with old and new items mixed. I need, somehow, to import descriptions of the old items (Column D of the old spreadsheet) to the new spreadsheet from old spreadsheet. So I want excel to look for old items in column A of the new spreadsheet and, once found, insert a description in the column B from old spreadsheet.
I have a worksheet(A) with rows of data associated to a date that gets a new row of data points once a month. On the second worksheet(B) I have two columns, one (Current Month) to show the data in the newest row (transposed), and one (Previous Month) to show the data in the row above it (from the previous month)(also transposed). Is there any way to get the columns in worksheet B to automatically read the newest row of data from worksheet A into column Current Month and automatically update the column Previous Month with the row above it?
is there a way to make it so when i enter a new number in B4 it will automatically update the formula to display the value for (B4-B3)/B3 and then continue on to repeat this process when i enter values into B5, B6, B7 ect?
I am trying to create a job data sheet as per below. Under 'Sales Item' I have a drop down menu to select the item sold. I am trying to set up an autofill formula to fill the 'Stock Cost' cell once we have selected the relevant product from the drop down menu. The data is on another worksheet on another tab at the bottom of the sheet.
Sales Item Sale Price Stock Cost Profit Per Item Installation Commission
I am linking to cells on a spreadsheet and in some cases the formula is showing in the cell and in others the contents of the linked cell. I have forced updating (F9 )and F2 enter with no effect. Is their something i am missing as I want all the links to update automatically. If I copy and paste a working formula into one of these cells it updates albeit with the wrong reference but if i go in and edit F2 etc then it shows as a formula.
I am working on a manpower spreadsheet and need for one spreadsheet to extract data from another and automatically update if it is changed and I am struggling below is an example of what is on spreadsheet 1:
and the information from spreadsheet 1 is copied to spreadsheet 2, however if amendments are made to spreadsheet 1 they are automatically updated on spreadsheet 2:
I have a userform that populates a list of names. As a name is added in column "D" column "C" updates a reference number using the formula =IF(D2="","",C1+1). I can get the formula to copy to the spread sheet but as a new name is added the formula stays the same. If I enter a name in cell D2 everything is fine but when I make the next entry in row 3 the same formula is entered as if it were text and not as a formula. so I wind up with a column of formulas that all say =IF(D2="","",C1+1) reguardless of what row the formula is in.
I have multiple Userforms with labels etc, all controls are similarily named (so I could do this) and I can refer to the Userform dynamically but the Label caption/Controls don't change, any idea's how to get them working.
Sheet 2. A1: Drop down datavalidation list selected from A3, sheet 1.
On sheet 2, a user can select from the list. If a user changes the value in A2, sheet 1, I want the value that is associated and already selected in A1, sheet 2 to automatically update. There is a 1 to many relationship with the concat and the drop down. In that, sheet 2 can have multiple rows with the same value from sheet 1 A3. Is there a way when A3 sheet 1 changes, to search in A:A in sheet two and update the values for those records that match the original value in A3, sheet 1?
I am trying to find some VBA that will allow protected cells to be updated when a user enters or selects data in other cells.
Cell 'A1' starts out blank. Cell 'B1' has a drop down to select specific items. Cell 'C1' is the date of the order and is a locked cell. Cell 'D1' is the date of completion and is a locked cell. The worksheet is protected to prevent direct changes to cells C1 and D1.
If a user enters any information in A1, then C1 displays the current date. If a user selects 'Complete' from the drop-down list in B1, then D1 displays the current date. Both of these actions are independant of one another. This format is the same for every cell in the 4 columns indicated above. I thought I was able to do this in another spreadsheet I created a year or so ago but I have not been able to figure out what I did and I do not have the spreadsheet to look at.
As you would normally use indirect formulas so the cell references don't change. Which that is what I want in the end, but I need to copy them to an indefinite number of cells first and would like to not do it by hand. I have found some solutions to similar questions/problems but cannot figure out how to make them work for me. So, what I am looking to do is this... (I have also attached the spreadsheet for reference)
I have gotten the information in columns A through F on the first sheet to update as rows are added, moved, deleted on the second sheet using Indirect range. Also, I could do this for Column I (Copmleted Proj. Avg. Terminations) but I would have to do it manually (as I began doing in I3, I4 & I5) but that would be time consuming. So I am hoping there is a way I can copy the formula down the cells are updated for the initial copy but then don't update if the referenced cells are moved or deleted.
